I wish I was good enough to parry bosses... I think its all humanoid bosses. So something like the Last Giant and probably the Giant Lord would be unparriable as well as the Iron King and probably the Smelter Demon. Though I do know you can parry the Lost Sinner.
I should have had this video done like 10 days ago... Destiny beta... what can I say? Well Since you can find in Aldias Keep a Pit, with dead Giants around and some cages with deformt mutant kinda Things AND the Fact that Aldias Keep is a known Place where "experiments" happend, My Theory is that these Deformt creatures things ARE Giants. I could be wrong, but it could be right.
That one about the lakes reflection and resemblance to the Iron Keep really caught my attention. And given the reflection resembles an intact version of the structure has me speculate whether if that may play a part in the 2nd Crown DLC. Just a thought.
@Steven Goes Insane I know I'm 5 years late but you've got a point. I'm not enjoying DS2 as much as DS1 but learning the lore from this video actually makes me appreciate the game slightly more.
Interesting notes: 1. The unique power stance thing for rapiers has nothing to do with the power stance itself, rather the fact that the strong attack of one handed rapiers is a parry. 2. The pharros' lockstone in earthen peak also cures poison if you use it after burning the windmill. Lore implications could then be that Mytha's bath room was suppressing the poison inside her? 3. Soul appease is pretty useful against the gank fight in sunken king DLC. Great video!
Jon Hopper Jatch25 is right, he just explained it in a wierd way.Power stance does not affect right hand attacks. You have to use left hand attack for the power stance attack. There is nothing special about rapier parry, since you just use your right hand weapon as usual. Cheers!
Great job, man. Funny, informative, and strait up entertaining... just entertaining. Forget that "strait up" part. Not sure where that came from. Anyway, keep up the great work!
Bloody awesome as usual. Very well written, can tell a lot of time was put into it, both in the list as well as just the clips/editing in general. Always happy when you have a new video up, keep up the great work dude.
Your videos are my favorite of the genre. I make sure to mention this in the other guys videos also, not to be a dick but rather to allow others to learn of your awesome channel.
I remember when i was so frustrated at the Shrine of Amana that i decided to just ran past the most annoying parts using two stamina regaining shields and one ring to just run past it as fast as i could.
The cinematic is the remnant of the old story line which was all about time travel. The castle is an old village that has dug or found a hole that supported the time travel itself. You can watch Vaati's video on the cut content of ds2
Actually there are 2 healing pond. One as in the video and the other one is in Iron Keep. At the location of the mini boss a.k.a Smelter Demon, before entering that location, you will notice an archer at above a building. Jump over there and the pond will be upstairs. I just want to share with you guys.
i didnt noticed the water reflection on the cinematic its great, but i belive it is like the Lethe river, because the undead will forget everything, and in Greek myth you enter to the underworld by going through Hades´rivers, and "dlc spoilers" the poison that Mytha used and is everywhere, is the blood of the dragon Sinh.
Gotta be a different timeline. The crone the beginning says "long ago", when referring to Drangleic. Plus the whirlpool shares similarities with the portal to Oolacile, so my guess is that Drangleic is set in the past.
Did you know that if you bring a torch into the Freja fight, and at least part of the walk-up, the spiders won't attack you? Seriously, I'm not kidding
I think you should do a part 4 and five and six mainly cuz there's a lot of things I'm missing and it helps cuz I can actually watch it with my friend cuz I watch it once by myself and then once again with my friends I can actually get a read set on my memory for it so I don't forget and he also gets his sister just in case I do he saw it too so can you please keep going with this series
2:13 i dunno chief, that looks more like Drangleic castle in ruins, it makes sense since in the cinematic and the herald said you traveled back in time, a little off but still a nice find.
+TerraMantis about number 8, the iron keep houses the belfry sol, the lost Bastille host the belfry luna and it speaks of a prince in both, the iron keep is home of the iron king, while the bastille was orphieas kingdom show from straids existense, so is it two kingdoms or the same kingdom? does that make the old iron king, king of orphea or is it a situation of romeo an juliet between the princess of orphea and the prince of the iron keeps kingdom? which do you think?
About the opening cinematic that is the iron keep from the far future because the cursed undead comes from there to the events happening in dark souls 2
did u know in the undead crypt, in certain spots, if stand still your camera will slowly rotate left, so slow you can hardly tell! it's mostly inside the hallway to boss room...
By defeating them and fckinhmmmmmmmmmmmm I dunno, to build Drangleic? maybe that's how he created golems. I don't know how he'd steal the faces, but by defeating them?
King Vendrick peered into the essense of souls, he found something there. What he found allowed him to use dark soul arts to rip the giants of their faces, causing the giants to seek out Vendrick, the newly risen evil and take him down. But the evil was too great and consumed not only him, but everything tied to him. This is Vendricks nightmare, a world beyond the one you were cursed in...the curse was calling you to his nightmare. When someones hatred is strong enough, it changes the world around them and can slip through worlds.
I have a good question: I beat velstad and took the ring. After i saw that souls vessel near velstad and I respec 10-15 times :P with bonefire astetic. Now i have 5 souls of a gigant and i want to beat king Vendric but i descoverd that everything is ng+7 difficulty (i am at ng :P). I also have to beat ultra hadcore velstad too.. when i will beat Nashandra and go ng+ will that room be ng+7? ().()
Well Idk if anyone's noticed but before the Smelter Demon boss if you look through any ghost (other players in their own worlds not summonings) you can actually see through the lava and look at the rest of the castle under it.
Any explanations about why Garl Vinland & Velstadt have a smilar armor, weapon, task... I been curious, I guess there's not much to explain but who know ! :0
In regards to the opening cinematic, I always thought of Drangleic as the place an Undead's consciousness goes once full-Hollowing occurs. It's full of what we've seen before, the four Lord Souls, the undead, even the legendary Ornstein, but it's all shaded and distorted, like an old half-forgotten memory or dream. The opening cinematic shows a person on the verge of Hollowing coming upon a vast lake, a thing with a lot of symbolism in the Souls series (more so in BB, but there are references in Souls too), in which a giant whirlpool opens up. As the person falls into the whirlpool, we see a few camera angles that make the whirlpool look a lot like a Darksign. I think this part of the scene represents the person finally succumbing to the Hollowing process, 'falling into the Darksign', as it were, into the vast infinity below the surface. I mean, once the person falls into the lake, they wake up in Things Betwixt, literally 'the place in between', another world, not too dissimilar to jumping into the lake only to enter Rom's bespoke domain in Bloodborne.
At #8 I think it should also be taken into consideration that you are human when you fall in, but fully hollowed afterwards. This could further set in the theory that you are in the future in the opening cut scene. You had found the cure for being undead, and are now always human. But, when you go back into the past and don't have the cure anymore, the hollowing that your body felt suddenly rushes back to you. What does everyone else think on that?
Mythas water pool also cures poison; out can find one in the iron keep that I know of as well.(her boss room water does not restore your HP at any point
Hey , Mantis, have you noticed that the path of the dragon covenant depends on the dragon in question. What I mean is , in ds1 we gave scales to an actual ancient dragon and became like it, most notably the hair, resembling that of the specific dragon we gave scales to . And the dragon in the opening cinematic were bald! But in dark souls too we just get an ARTIFICIAL suit of armor for following the dragon covenant. Note the eye in the middle of the headpiece , and the eye in the middle of ancient dragon from the trailer forehead. This means... Half-life 3 confirmed! But seriously , yet another clue...
Shadow Mask, part of the Shadow Set, which can be farmed from the Suspicious Shadows who spawn to assist the Flexile Sentry boss fight on NG+ or higher.
What if the lake in the opening cutscene is like a mirror and the whirlpool breaks the 'mirror'. That would make the lake work like the mirrors found later in the game and the one used by the mirror knight. Just an idea.
It seems like in the cutscene the player is going back in time by jumping into the portal. Because if you look at the scene with the different reflection, you can see that what's actually there is the same castle as the reflection, it's just in ruins. Also what's going on with the Emerald Herald and the lady in the cinematic, also suggests that you're going back in time. Btw, looking at the style of architecture, the concept art/cinematic castle reminds me more of Sen's Fortress than Iron Keep. Although I can't see the top part of the concept art castle while only the top part of Iron Keep is visible in game. Oh and if you look at the DS2 Announcement Trailer, the scene with the cool versions of the manikins in a volcanic area, the gate of that fortress-looking thing also looks a bit like the concept art fort with the U shape above the entrance. But maybe it's not that useful to look into concept art and pre-release stuff for lore since so much has changed since the Announcement Trailer.
I don't know how much you know of architecture, but the Iron Keep does not resemble to the reflection of the castle. The bridge of the "Lost Castle" doesn't have a pediment unlike the Iron Keep does. And the front view of the Lost Castle is symmetric.
Aureo The vague similarity is all it takes for someone with a lack for attention to detail to think the two are "alike". It's a different castle that probably has nothing to do with the rest of the game as you obviously go into a new world. Who the fuck watches someone spiral down and assume they came back out in the same world? You were chosen to become the ruler or destroy the land...
Does anyone notice that in the concept art of the reflection scene, it somewhat looks more like the Painted World in the first game, but only my opinion.
I doubt that it is iron keep. There is a way leading to a door, but thats basically it. I think the further keep itself doesn't really look like the other. 02:12
I learned something new about DS2 today...I started another new game. I get to belfry luna for the first time during this play through. I DO NOT talk to bell keeper midget at the front. I run through the level fast as possible to open to cage to the gargoyles cuz I dont want to get invaded. I Don't get invade at all. I wait for 20+ minutes out front the fog for a summon sign. and I NEVER get invaded...this is uncalled for in a belfry level. Turns out IF YOU DON'T TALK TO THE LITTLE DUDE AT THE START YOU WILL NOT GET INVADED. crazy eh?
Wait, you can parry Velstadt!? Why did I waste all that time rolling.....
You can parry most bosses, you just can'y riposte them.
Yeah, I never even tried parrying anyone after Pursuer. I think I just assumed he was the only one, like Gwyn was in the first. :/
I wish I was good enough to parry bosses...
I think its all humanoid bosses. So something like the Last Giant and probably the Giant Lord would be unparriable as well as the Iron King and probably the Smelter Demon. Though I do know you can parry the Lost Sinner.
John Marston
Well Cowboy, you can parry Smelter. It's extremely difficult, though.
John Marston The Lost Sinner can also Parry you.

DESTINY SUCKED SO.....
So king vendrick stole the faces from giants to create golems
hm interesting theory
More like From fucked up as usual and forgot to remove one of the old giant corpses during development
The manikins head too if that is the case
Victor Von Doom I thought Mytha did it
Well Since you can find in Aldias Keep a Pit, with dead Giants around and some cages with deformt mutant kinda Things AND the Fact that Aldias Keep is a known Place where "experiments" happend, My Theory is that these Deformt creatures things ARE Giants.
I could be wrong, but it could be right.
thats what vendrick stole! the giants' faces!!
i was thinking along the lines of the giants noses
He's got a nose!
That one about the lakes reflection and resemblance to the Iron Keep really caught my attention. And given the reflection resembles an intact version of the structure has me speculate whether if that may play a part in the 2nd Crown DLC. Just a thought.

Is it just me, or do the Orma and Reeve shields sound like a reference to Oro and Peeve?
And the pigs in Majula is ENB xD
Jack Tacker I have no idea, I watched him since his Prepare to die play through but I have no idea where it came from.
Oroboro and Peeve were talking about that when Peeve was trying out the combo.

Kyrodu Nakamura I don't know what stream it was, but he was using the Orma and Reeve shields in PvP.

This is why i love the Souls games, so many small cool details.
good job man, i really like the concept of the iron keep image on water & the light that prevents the enemies from getting closer....this game is deep
I was really intrigued about the introduction, how the reflection in the lake showed the castle. Good Video. :)
these were pretty cool, also I always thought the Giants faces were how trees have holes in them.
well deserved like. that last one spooked me a little
4:15 I never knew that i especially didn't think he would eat the Bodies during the Fight. Great Video!

King Vendrick stole the giants faces, that's probably why the giants decided to attack Drangleic!

I noticed that one of the syan knights in drangleic castle have the black knight greatsword while the others have the syans halberd it's strange.
