@@Coogan. 5 years. I have a track suit. 2 leather coats. A cold suit. 2 textile jackets. 2 pair riding jeans. 6 pair boots/shoes. Back protector. Air bag vest. Gloves helmet. That's about 4 grand at least. Over a few years of course.

Little update, going great! Haven’t had any issues. Put about 500 miles on the bike so far. (I grew up on dirt bikes) still a big jump from my Honda 400 but absolutely worth every penny
I can't express enough how important proper gloves are as well. I was going maybe 10/15 mph when i went head over handlebars. I broke my left wrist when my hands went out to catch me. No gloves, bone go CRONCH. If i had been wearing some impact resistant gloves, i might have been spared the indignity of a cast, which DID make my arm & hand smell like a sweaty ballsack for two weeks before i had surgery
I think even with a glove your hand would have broken
Always look for the sales/sale items.
Also new riders, if your lucky ti have a big bike clothing shop nearby, ask I'd they have some stuff they want to get rid of. I got great revit gloves my size for €15. Instead of 75. Last pair from in the back

I saved a few bucks buying a helmet with built in Bluetooth. Techno 3.0. Wish I had bought separately because now when I buy a new lid, I need to also purchase a separate com unit.
My Shark Skwal helmet has up and down dark visor on the inside. A clip on the outside, so I can switch when necessary. It also has LED lighting on the outside; front and back.
mine too and it is really a "life-saver". Used sunglasses before, very suboptimal, now i can just put it down or up in seconds because im switching from shady forest passages, where tinted glass is very uncomfortable because its darker, to sunlight popping straight into my eyes like all 5-10 minutes when i drive around here.
@@Vittrich I have a pair of sunglasses under the buddy seat, so when I'm on location, I can still protect my eyes. Hahaha
i was surprised when i read that the Styrofoam in helmets has a lifespan. Usually about six years or so. As it ages, it hardens and become pretty much useless to absorbing energy. Then its just the hard shell and your brain fighting the 70 g's impact when you just slammed into the asphalt. Of all the places to cut corners, please do not buy a 'cheap' no name helmet. Buy a name brand modern helmet that protects that porn getter in your skull case. A quality helmet is truly worth a million dollars in keeping you from being a helpless resident in a medical bed for the rest of your life, Spend the money, buy the quality, you are damn sure worth every penny.
You never mention, that a lot of helmets come with a secondary flip down sun visor, behind the clear one.
Its as if you dont know they exist.
I have transition lenses for my glasses (yeah, yeah...), so I can imagine it'd be nice for a visor. Bear in mind though, if they do work like glasses lenses, they may darken at weird times too (mine get pretty dark if I'm outside on a cold, grey day). Just something to consider.

Nowadays every helmet has a freakin drop down tinted glass. Why people don’t buy them is beyond me.
Personally, they get in the way of my glasses. Also I think it's too many lenses in front of my eyes and I start getting some strain. I prefer goggles with easy lense swaps or clear visor with prescription sunglasses.

@Elvin1337 that's a totally different thing compared to an internal visor.
note for the rain. OR live in California and just pay attention to the weather channel. you will only miss a couple weeks of riding per year and pretty much never get rained on.

Hi Yammie Noob, subscribed and a fan of your channel. I'm an old (62) and old school fan of your channel. I agree with everything on this video but one thing. Mostly I've bought new but discontinued discount models of helmets in the $100 to $120 range. But a couple of times I've bought used high end ($600+ new) Shoei and Arai helmets for a fraction of new price and think they are a smart value. They are noticeably better than cheap helmets in most characteristics but just not worth that new price for me.
Where do you find the discontinued helmets?
The foam inside helmets have a lifespan so getting lucky and being safe are two different things
I bought a second hand helmet a few years ago on a flea market. It was looking brand new and I could have swear it was not used more than a couple time and it was a very good brand. Unfortunately after a few months the rubber part's started disintegrating...really falling apart just at the lightest touch. That was my last ever attempt to buy second hand helmet... As far as cheap gears, you must consider the fact that you have a limited budget. So, is it better to spend your money on "supposedly" high quality for a few items...or save on the helmet to be able to afford a cheap leather full body and a chinese airbag jacket.
I sold my cbr500r with a box full of parts, its true. I forgot to give the guy the jug of honda coolant I hadn't opened yet though.
I have a new 3/4 helmet and a used skidded full face helmet. I only wear the used on cold/rainy days. Other than that i feel more comfortable with the other one
Great protection for 3/4's of your head. I go for full protection thank you.
When you are next in a car doing 60mph ask yourself "what would I want to be wearing if I were to get out right now"....

I wouldn’t normally buy used gear but I did buy a helmet and gloves off an older gentleman that bought them to take the MSF course with his son. Helmet was a current model with a good date
Just wrecked today. Had boots riding jacket and helmet on. Never go cheap or without. They saved my life today and I was able to walk away. Dr said without I would’ve been hauled off under a sheet. Just be smart it looks cooler with the gear on anyways

3000% agree with the 2nd hand helmet, it's always enticing but just don't. I see it ALOT with moped sales becauses people seem to think they don't need gear on a bike that can only go 60km/h even though accidents happen in the city too
I know this is tame but i got my first electric scooter just 2 weeks ago, every time i go on a ride it's like 4 PM or something when the sun is still pretty high , then i end up freezing cold because of the wind at 5-6pm, every time it's always tee-shirt, shorts and sandals (in the EU scooter are limited to 45km/h) and yet i still wear that. Also true for the helmet i had to settle for a jet helmet since i already spent a lot on the bike itself

Canadian here. Cold hamds are quickly warmed from the engine warmth at lights.
I bought full gear , one for summer,one for cold weather, all of it is CE certificated and EC 25 certificate for helmet(DOT is nothing),before I even bought my motorcycle, don't be stupid brothers, be a long time rider.
I use the same green combat gloves in the vid
What I started with: new helmet (AGV), new boots (Yammie), new gloves, used armored jacket; still need full armored pants - I use thick jeans for now, and a summer appropriate armored shirt.

It depends on the used helmet and when did they buy it. Hell if anyone is sold a shoei or Agv helmet that is 1 years old with no scratch or smells with 50% or more discount it price then why not
In the UK most helmets have drop down tinted visors behind the normal one

I did get a little common sense last year though. Riding jeans with kevlar and pads, gloves and light jacket with pads.

Assless chaps have done me wonders for years I recommend them to any new riders as they provide ample cooling and comfort unlike anything else I’ve worn.

With my first bike, I bought a £30 helmet due to the fact I had £30 after buying my bike. The following Friday (payday) I chucked it and spent a week's wages on a hjc.

Buying gear is the worst. Basically every piece I get ends up not working out quite right, so I end up buying multiple versions to get something that works.
I ride with jeans, and work boots but wear a helmet. Is it the safest no, but I also see people ride with full rider gear, but keep the helmet off. 😂

i would like to ask ...i'm thinking of buying a motorxycle but i'm afraid that they arte too dangerous ....like of there's a pot hole in the road and i'm riding a car it's ok ...but i feel like if i'm riding a motorcycle i'll fall and die if i'm going high speeds ...i would love to hear everyone's opinion as i have never ridden one ...thx
If you're interested in bikes I'd say go take the motorcycle safety course. They'll teach you alot of useful skills and you'll be able to ride on one and if you like it, get one!

Hey do y’all know the best first motorcycle
Personally my first motorcycle was a CBR300R. It went as fast as I needed and is very economical. I pay $15 a month in insurance and it gets 70+ mpg while allowing me to go over 90mph. A really recommend this bike, but sometimes when I'm on the interstate I wish I would have started on something with just a little more power. A 400cc sportbike.
After that I had a CBR600RR which I sold and currently have a Yamaha R6 and Suzuki GSXR1000. I made the mistake of rushing my progress though and the 1000 I'm not comfortable riding on the street yet.
