The problem with Cambodia isn't that they don't have a canal to the sea, but it is because they're too dumb, lazy and delusional. They always like to thinks about the peak of that empire and totally ignored how it came to be! The Khmer Empire started smaller than Cambodia today. It expanded through wars and annexing other peoples' lands by force. At its peak, it attacked Vietnam 8 times trying to annex her but failed. In some of those invasions, they forced Champa to join. When Champa refused, Suryavarman II attacked Champa and destroyed its capital. These endless wars had weaken the empire significantly and created the beginning of the end for itself! The back and forth wars with Champa, and the rising up of Thailand and Laos further destroyed it. If you think about it, the Khmer Empire had brought it on itself. It had tried too hard to eat more than it can swallow until it mouth torn open and itself got eaten by its former victims! As a country with over 97% of the population follow Buddhism, Cambodians should have understood karma in this story better than anybody else, but they don't! They just love to play victim! They're too greedy that they think history just stops when their empire expanded to the furthest! They clearly don't understand even the most basic teaching in Buddhism! Now they think China can help them restore the Khmer Empire! LMAO! This is just history repeat itself! In the 1970s, Pol Pot had the exact same dream! He thought with China backing, he could restore the Khmer Empire so he started attacking all of his three neighbors right after he took power in Cambodia in 1975! About China's help, in order to use Pol Pot as a knife against Vietnam, China had totally ignored 200-300 thousands Chinese Cambodian who killed by Pol Pot! If China didn't give a fk about their own flesh and blood and let Pol Pot exterminate them, how can you Cambodians think they will help you build your empire?! LMAO! Is there such a thing in world history. You're getting used by China again but you're just too stupid to know! After only 50 years, you Cambodians have totally forgotten about who helped Pol Pot kill 2 millions Cambodians and who stopped that genocide. If Vietnam didn't stop Pol Pot, many of you wouldn't exist today to hate Vietnam!

He started ordering his troops to kill Vietnamese troops in Cambodia in 1973, even before the war ended in 1975, so Vietnam had had nothing to do with him since then. Sihanouk started to side with Pol Pot after Lon Nol coup because he was also a China's tool. He also sided with Pol Pot after the genocide was exposed and with coaching from China, he created a force to fight side by side with the Khmer Rouge against Vietnam and Hun Sen's troops to prolong the bloodshed of you Cambodians! You should hate him and China a lot more because they were Pol Pot best friends till the end and they're the ones who delay your country recovery for another 10 years! If you keep acting stupid like this, exactly like Pol Pot before for trusting China, more disasters will befall on you, and you can never catch up with your neighbors by sitting around and dreaming about a stupid ancient empire!
Then Vietnam will build a sea bridge to connect Phu Quoc Island and the land to block the ship route to Kep and Sihanoukville, then we’ll also block all Cambodian vessels going near Tho Chu island within 20 miles. Then Cambodian ships must move further into to the Thailand Gulf to enter the canal which takes more time. Finally, Cambodia will never claim profits from this mega project because the Vietnamese government will find a way to steal business contracts and disturb the marine routes

This project (Funan Techo Canal) has been researched by more than 40 experts from developed countries about 26months. The project will build three navigation valves (Canel Locks) ,Construction of 11 bridges.... The results is that it doesn't have any impact on Mekong River Water System / Ecosystem. The government of Cambodia also notified to MRC about this project, Accordance with Article 5 of the 1995 Mekong Agreement, which requires that any projects on the Mekong River tributaries, including the Funan Techo Canal, must be notified to the Joint Committee. Cambodia has met this requirement accordingly, showcasing its dedication to regional collaboration and sustainable growth. Thus, there are legal operational reasons for Cambodia to implement this project. We are Cambodian. We're fully support this project because the canal will boost Cambodia’s economy by reducing tax payments to Vietnam and will further increase shipping on water transportation.

Totally agree that Cambodian could do everything on their land, their river,... This canal is very important for future of cambodian economic. when finished this project cambodia can export and import goods directly to its deep sea port in Shihanuk ville and to the world. It wont be much environmental issues since it has water controlling gate system not allowing fresh water flow to the sea freely. Instead it will help solving flood issue in raining season and drought in dry season. Right now cambodia accessing goods through mekong delta of Vietnam that charge extra fee and take longer in processing time that making cambodia lose competition in selling products to the global market. Vietnam raise concerns and dont want this project to happen because they want to control cambodian exportation and economic rather than environmental concerns. Mekong river is water source of millions of people in Vietnam hence any change of the river will surely be Vietnam major concern. Hence it is understandable that Vietnam request more information from Cambodia on this project.

We are building this canal on a Prek, which is a creek, of the Bassac River which is a secondary stream of the mekong. The hand of the hand of the Mekong. Maybe you should question the media and news source of your country instead. Misinforming the people. The 1995 Mekong Charter stated that if a country is building a project from a secondary source of the Mekong, there is no need to have full agreements from all the Mekong countries members nor need to file a document to the Mekong committee. However, Cambodia did file a document to the committee for friendship and to inform while no need to do that at all. Cambodia abides by the international law and is doing everything legally.
We strongly support this project because of no impacts to Vietnam and other Mekong members, legally conforming to MRC Agreement, and especially in Cambodia's territory. This is to boost Cambodia's economy as Vietnam did in its land too.

Why is international care a bout some others countries try to do their best for their own country. Each country has right to do what is best for his or her country……. The OC-EO Canal means the Glasses Canal because in ancient time, there were many beautiful glasses were founded along the Canal. The OC-EO Canal has been existing in Cambodia over 2000 years ago during Phnom Kingdom (Funan) of Cambodia. The Canal was linked from Angkor Borei, the ancient capital of Phnom (Funan) to the OC-EO Port in Southern Vietnam (Kampuchea Krom) which it was the territory of Cambodia from the 1st century to 1945 The French built the Palace and the front street in Prey Nokor City (Saigon now Ho Chi Minh) in 1866 and named Norodom after the King of Cambodia. When the French left, they transferred Southern Vietnam (Kampuchea Krom) to Vietnam illegally. The Khmer living in South Vietnam today still fight for their land and their freedom from Vietnam. Since the OC-EO Canal from Cambodia can’t have its access to Southern Vietnam anymore, Cambodia just changed its direction to the Kompong Som Bay in Cambodia. The OE-EO Canal changed its name to the Funan Techo Canal and its project is not affected to other countries since Cambodia has submitted its project to the MRC 3 years ago.

Cambodia has undertaken extensive research and provided evidence to support this project. In this case, I stand firmly with my government in supporting this project 100%. While Vietnam raises concerns, there is no clear evidence to substantiate them. I have faith in my minister, Soun Chanthol, who has collaborated with over 60 experts and thoroughly studied the related issues in this project. It appears that Vietnam's concern stems from the potential loss of revenue from transportation fees that Cambodia currently pays to use their port. Anyways, I wish this project can go on smoothly and everyone happy.

He thought with China backing, he could restore the Khmer Empire so he started attacking all of his three neighbors right after he took power in Cambodia in 1975!
About China's help, in order to use Pol Pot as a knife against Vietnam, China had totally ignored 200-300 thousands Chinese Cambodian who killed by Pol Pot! If China didn't give a fk about their own flesh and blood and let Pol Pot exterminate them, how can you Cambodians think they will help you build your empire?! LMAO! Is there such a thing in world history. You're getting used by China again but you're just too stupid to know!
After only 50 years, you Cambodians have totally forgotten about who helped Pol Pot kill 2 millions Cambodians and who stopped that genocide. If Vietnam didn't stop Pol Pot, many of you wouldn't exist today to hate Vietnam!
Many of you keep blaming Vietnam for supporting Pol Pot but conveniently ignored the fact that your king Sihanouk, and China supported him a lot more! If you hate Vietnam for that, you should hate your king and China a lot more, but you don't! Vietnam stopped his genocide while your king and China supported it but you only hate Vietnam. Vietnam only supported the Khmer Rouge at the beginning when it wasn't hijacked by Pol Pot's gang yet. After Pol Pot took leadership with the backing of China, he purged all the Khmer Rouge cadres who were trained by or friendly with Vietnam. He started ordering his troops to kill Vietnamese troops in Cambodia in 1973, even before the war ended in 1975, so Vietnam had had nothing to do with him since then. Sihanouk started to side with Pol Pot after Lon Nol coup because he was also a China's tool. He also sided with Pol Pot after the genocide was exposed and with coaching from China, he created a force to fight side by side with the Khmer Rouge against Vietnam and Hun Sen's troops to prolong the bloodshed of you Cambodians! You should hate him and China a lot more because they were Pol Pot best friends till the end and they're the ones who delay your country recovery for another 10 years!
If you keep acting stupid like this, exactly like Pol Pot before for trusting China, more disasters will befall on you, and you can never catch up with your neighbors by sitting around and dreaming about a stupid ancient empire!

This project (Funan Techo Canal) has been researched by more than 40 experts from developed countries about 26months. The project will build three navigation valves (Canel Locks) ,Construction of 11 bridges.... The results is that it doesn't have any impact on Mekong River Water System / Ecosystem. The government of Cambodia also notified to MRC about this project, Accordance with Article 5 of the 1995 Mekong Agreement, which requires that any projects on the Mekong River tributaries, including the Funan Techo Canal, must be notified to the Joint Committee. Cambodia has met this requirement accordingly, showcasing its dedication to regional collaboration and sustainable growth. Thus, there are legal operational reasons for Cambodia to implement this project.
We are Cambodian. We're fully support this project because the canal will boost Cambodia’s economy by reducing tax payments to Vietnam and will further increase shipping on water transportation.
Note: The Funan Techo Canal project will connect to Bassac River not Mekong River.

This canal is very important for future of cambodian economic. when finished this project cambodia can export and import goods directly to its deep sea port in Shihanuk ville and to the world. It wont be much environmental issues since it has water controlling gate system not allowing fresh water flow to the sea freely. Instead it will help solving flood issue in raining season and drought in dry season. Right now cambodia accessing goods through mekong delta of Vietnam that charge extra fee and take longer in processing time that making cambodia lose competition in selling products to the global market. Vietnam raise concerns and dont want this project to happen because they want to control cambodian exportation and economic rather than environmental concerns. They them self dig alot of canals in their land but now they try to interfere cambodia affair due to their own interest.

Mekong river is water source of millions of people in Vietnam hence any change of the river will surely be Vietnam major concern. Hence it is understandable that Vietnam request more information from Cambodia on this project.

We are building this canal on a Prek, which is a creek, of the Bassac River which is a secondary stream of the mekong. The hand of the hand of the Mekong. Maybe you should question the media and news source of your country instead. Misinforming the people. The 1995 Mekong Charter stated that if a country is building a project from a secondary source of the Mekong, there is no need to have full agreements from all the Mekong countries members nor need to file a document to the Mekong committee. However, Cambodia did file a document to the committee for friendship and to inform while no need to do that at all. Cambodia abides by the international law and is doing everything legally.
We strongly support this project because of no impacts to Vietnam and other Mekong members, legally conforming to MRC Agreement, and especially in Cambodia's territory. This is to boost Cambodia's economy as Vietnam did in its land too.
In China, we are digging similar canal project in Guangxi, Pinglu Canal, after finish it, Guangxi boats will not pass by Guangdong and Hong Kong, in same country we easily get it ironed out under big strategy of development. It's impossible for guangdong and Hong Kong to consider their own interests alone. Brothers also need to develop.

Why is international care a bout some others countries try to do their best for their own country. Each country has right to do what is best for his or her country……. Canal is good but where is tons of factory or agricultural products for exports if we can't generate revenue to pay back China fund in short period also lack of electricity supply and price increase. this canal will be in debt. Government have to make challenges for officers they're sleeping with corruption if things gone wrong China will control sea resources. We need more energy sources building up especially electricity power plant.
The OC-EO Canal means the Glasses Canal because in ancient time, there were many beautiful glasses were founded along the Canal. The Khmer took those beautiful glasses and made jewelry from those beautiful glasses that people can buy them online at Etsy today (Funan glass necklaces). The OC-EO Canal has been existing in Cambodia over 2000 years ago during Phnom Kingdom (Funan) of Cambodia. The Canal was linked from Angkor Borei, the ancient capital of Phnom (Funan) to the OC-EO Port in Southern Vietnam (Kampuchea Krom) which it was the territory of Cambodia from the 1st century to 1945 The French built the Palace and the front street in Prey Nokor City (Saigon now Ho Chi Minh) in 1866 and named Norodom after the King of Cambodia. When the French left, they transferred Southern Vietnam (Kampuchea Krom) to Vietnam illegally. The Khmer living in South Vietnam today still fight for their land and their freedom from Vietnam. Since the OC-EO Canal from Cambodia can’t have its access to Southern Vietnam anymore, Cambodia just changed its direction to the Kompong Som Bay in Cambodia. The OE-EO Canal changed its name to the Funan Techo Canal and its project is not affected to other countries since Cambodia has submitted its project to the MRC 3 years ago.

I understand that everyone should be concerned about environmental problems, but merely stating 'environmental problem' isn't strong evidence. Cambodia has undertaken extensive research and provided evidence to support this project.
In this case, I stand firmly with my government in supporting this project 100%. While Vietnam raises concerns, there is no clear evidence to substantiate them. I have faith in my minister, Soun Chanthol, who has collaborated with over 60 experts and thoroughly studied the related issues in this project.
It appears that Vietnam's concern stems from the potential loss of revenue from transportation fees that Cambodia currently pays to use their port.
Anyways, I wish this project can go on smoothly and everyone happy.

Just to corroborate my claim, you can search for images of drought in the mekong delta of Vietnam and envisage how dire things will be if the water flow towards Vietnam is impeded.
