Vietnam has done the same thing in the past, building a canal for a purpose, shit. Vietnam won't care much about losing some tariffs from Cambodian ship traffic down the Mekong. The two big concerns are losing leverage and influence over Cambodia, and the unknown impacts on Mekong water flow.
The reason for containers to go via Vietnam is that VN has a deep sea port where motherships can be loaded and then go straight to US and EUR. Will Kep port be able to receive motherships?

THe problem is only a family is benefited from everything in Cambodia. Hundred of thousands of people will be evicted without having to receive any compensation .
Problem with the canal is that - like most of Chinese Belt & Road projects, it doesn't work. What's the use of a canal that is not deep enough to take sea-going container ships? How are you going to unload them in Phnom Penh? Why would you load / unload container ship twice rather than putting the goods on rail like everyone else? It isn't even poor research, I don't think OP even lives in Cambodia, otherwise while animating 1:26 he would have stopped and thought why he hasn't ever seen a container ship on Tonle Sap himself.
Modern , China nearly took everything over from 70-80 % economies of South East Asia ! Even America they want to buy the whole island of Vancouver Canada same Alaska there is sign of China presence even Cuba there’s a lot Chinese business dealing .
We dont care about china's records of unfinished projects. We dont care that there is debt trap. We, the Cambodians have no problem leasing the port to china. So what if china is calling the shot? We'd rather be friends with the CCP. China is great, long live cambodia 🤣🤣🤣
I've been hearing the same stories over and over again. How many countries are suffering historically from China? How about the West like America, how many people are getting screwed, died or displaced like in Israel right now.
If anyone worry or if they are happy against or for, don't worry, four things will have to happen when it comes to Cambodia. 1/ China will have to be fooled to build this canal for vietnam in today Cambodia. The chinese "investment" in today cambodia is worst than china did in the '70. 2/The cost for Cambodia is enormous in term of land concession to vietnam in return for canal to please hun sen's ego. vietnam is very deceptive in this deal, they asked for 4 provinces in exchange for hun sen's canal, built by chinese money. Which is happening now, vietnam annexed four(4) provinces of the northeastern part of Cambodia. Talk about hun sen's WIN WIN strategy. 3/ It is not the environmental aspect that Cambodian are worried about, but the affect directly on their land, home and livelihood that they have been there for many generations. Their lives are turned upside down. The question is where are they going to live? 4/ After the canal is built(if china is foolish enough not seeing what was in the past), vietnam would just move their people in to live on the southeastern side of the canal and move from there just like the have done around Mekong. This project will prove to be costly to Cambodia land and her people and a huge gain in vietnamese land concession and annexation now and in the future. vietnam wants it all. not just bit and pieces that they have encroached and annexed.
Dear Mr and Mrs Feet, I am here in PP, I need to make a passport border run, could you or any of your members please give me the fastest cheapest possible way to make that happen! After that I'll be able to get my very own ABA bank account! Cheers and best wishes to you and yours..
I don’t think Vietnam has much to say. The Mekong delta use to belong to Khmer and they had use Khmer folks as (slaves) laborers to work on the canal. Though the current project will have environmental consequences which we will find out later. and also the up keep of the digging after the days of canal is finish.
It's a Belt and Road project, financed by China and just like the new airport, it will fail and cost the country mega bucks, like in Pakistan and Sri Lanka to just mention a few. btw I live in Kampot

NEVER been there,, Heard of something negative of it,,, what I plan-------I wait since this canal won't be completed by 2030,, I have tons of time prepare my trip,, Number one thing in my plan----must take a boat trip to experience this entire canal,,,,,
If you weren't stupid, you should be well aware of the economic value of a road to the world. Economic and trade exchanges along this road will benefit more people. If you believe building roads and bridges is a debt trap, I suggest you take an intelligence test.
So you think this channel is stupid???? ...... I am 100%agree😊
THe problem is only a family is benefited from everything in Cambodia. Hundred of thousands of people will be evicted without having to receive any compensation .
You need evidence to support your claim.
I know some people who got paid a hefty by the government just for the government to take parts of their lands to build the techno airport

the mekong delta is Khmer Krom..that land Khmer land why the one steal the land is mad?
I always think its "techno" canal.
🇰🇭👍
man not the lemonade
Obviously you don't understand the One Party system
I've been to Cambodia by the way
At the end, it will be owned by Chinese for 100 years. Good deal.
Chinese belt & road doesn't work? Omfg. The insane stoopidity of your farts.
Can you make yourself disąppear please?!
I do live in Phnom Penh, but you're right... I haven't seen a container ship on the Tonle Sap. You got me there.
@@itchyfeetonthecheap Reading back, I was too harsh with that, sorry man 🙂This topic is heavily pushed by political bots and it colored my reply.
What is the answer?
Why are there no container barges on the Tonle ?

Its CHINA built, not Cambodia built it
Better use this money to come back kampuchea krom than this canal
Chinese will use this to control parts of Cambodia just like they took over that port in Sihanoukvill area 😉

Where is the evidence of land concession to Vietnam?
Dear Mr and Mrs Feet,
I am here in PP, I need to make a passport border run, could you or any of your members please give me the fastest cheapest possible way to make that happen! After that I'll be able to get my very own ABA bank account!
Cheers and best wishes to you and yours..
You should've studied about Cambodia's climate first

Hey tu-tu-ru-tu-ru shortcut LOL
Cambodia: head long rushing to ecological destruction
I don’t think Vietnam has much to say. The Mekong delta use to belong to Khmer and they had use Khmer folks as (slaves) laborers to work on the canal.
Though the current project will have environmental consequences which we will find out later. and also the up keep of the digging after the days of canal is finish.
