The Soundtrack (2-album) went to No. 1. Her "Mahogany" and "The Wiz" are also classics. As is her TV movie work including "Out of Darkness" (Golden Globe nomination) and "Double Platinum" (with Brandy).
Oh. And the film was nominated for FIVE Academy Awards including Best Original Screenplay; Best Art Direction; Set Decoration; Best Costume Design; Best Scoring. No wins. And worth noting: Diana Ross is the 2nd Black Leading Actress nomination to Dorothy Dandridge for "Carmen" (Hattie McDaniels "Gone with the Wind" win was Supporting). In the same year, as Diana Ross, Cicely Tyson was nominated for "Sounder". Diana was FAVORED by most polling unless Hollywood sympathy took the power away from Motown and handed it to Judy Garland's daughter Liza Minnelli who did an also critically-acclaimed turn in "Cabaret". She beat Diana for the win.
