    Just completed my first day of buying as a novice stacker. Bought 60 oz to celebrate my 60th birthday in a few days. Spilt between Canadian ML - Brit - and ASE (premium too high but had to get some just the same).
    I’m gonna focus on MLs and bars moving forward. Overall goal 2000 oz by my 65th.

    Solid advice here.
    Question: What percentage of one's assets would you recommend holding in physical silver? There is an opportunity cost to stacking too much metal, so I am wondering what your advice would be for new stackers. What % of your total assets do you hold in physical metals?
    I think the answer would be helpful for many of us newbies.

    I'm a novice and need some advice. I bought 295 proof ASE's about 5 years ago. The company I bought them from wants to buy them back for a profit to me of $9 each and they suggest that I put that money into the equivalent dollar value of American Silver Buffalo rounds, which would give me 63% more silver than I have right now. Would you do it? Would you sell proof Silver Eagles and buy Buffalo rounds or would you buy something else?

    I only get one or two of these government issued bullion coins just to continue the date set. I don't have complete sets of almost anything because I'm not willing to pay a lot for earlier versions (example: kookaburras). I do have a full date set of ASEs, though. I have been predominately buying generic rounds and bars for the past couple years. I have also started to dabble in some fractional gold - not going too crazy, since the premiums are wicked.

    Just to correct you on the security features of the Krugerrand... the word KRUGERRAND is "printed" in the mountains below the Springbok"s right leg. That is not the only one.. There is another one printed below that, or on the right side of the coin on earlier versions - something like SAR021. Have a look with a magnifying glass.

  • @ramsoncole4605
    @ramsoncole4605 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thing is, unless you sell these to a collector that wants them for some reason, when the time comes to sell, all you will get is the weight of the silver. It makes no sense to pay a premium for a coin, when you can buy bullion much much cheaper.

    • @jamesbarr5486
      @jamesbarr5486 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You do get some of your premium back on certain coins like eagles and kookaburras and much of the Perth mint stuff. Some can be quite collectible

    • @ramsoncole4605
      @ramsoncole4605 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jamesbarr5486 guarantee that if you walked into a jewelry store with 100 ASE, you'll walk out with whatever 100 oz of silver sells for. Now if you are into collecting or whatever, and you are going to sell to some other collector, that's a different story, but if you are collecting silver to someday sell it as a hedge against inflation or whatever, bullion is best by far.

Everything you say about the maples is true, however, silver eagles will always be valued higher and they seem to appreciate at a higher rate. I just bought a tube of 2022 kookaburras for 5 dollars over spot on bullion exchange. That’s comparable to Brits and maples. You just got to shop around. And after a year the Value of them goes up pretty good so you got to get them the first year they come out. They come in individual capsules not in tubes where they can scratch and bang together. So that’s also a savings on buying capsules. They are beautiful and don’t milk spot.. Definitely check them out

      @@aspiringalchemist8398 Thanks! I just watched a video of someone doing just that. Looks like a good solution.

    I personally would put the Britannias at No1 & the Maples at No2. This is because of the very bad portrait of HM the Queen on the Maples & the higher security on the Britannias. Happy stacking everyone.

    I would put the Krugerrand at #4 and not #5 based on the reeded edge.. I consider that more of a security feature over the Philharmonic smooth edge.

    Krugs have the microprint security feature underneath the hind leg. Says "Krugerrand" on the mountain range

    The krugerrands after 2017 actually have security features. If you look closely you will see "krugerrand" in microtext in the mountains behind the back leg. From what I understand there is also another bit of microtext that changes position each year.

    I've seen a few coins on eBay with milk spots where they are selling it for a bit more then average and advertising the milk spotting as a plus as if it's toning.. I want to buy a few gold Barbados tridents they are very nice

    ASE's are the top of the charts regardless of premium because they are recognized by everyone and their liquidity is superior, are premiums high, yes. With other Bullion Coins they are almost comparable to rounds (price wise on resell) to begin with and unfortunately for the Maple Leafs and the Brittania's they both have the Queen on them...and for that reason i can't bring myself to purchase them at all, i however would get them if they ever make a great looking reverse and get rid of the Queen or anything to do with the royal personalities.
