Yep when choosing between the two, you should ALWAYS get both.
My preference (in terms of generic) is strictly 10 oz bars. Easier to stack. For smaller stuff, I like sovereign

If you’re looking to stack weight (meaning to trade fiat for a nice chunk of metal), I’d opt for an ounce of gold over a 100oz silver bar. The prices are comparable at that point and you’ll actually be saving on premiums with gold and have an easier-to-handle and more liquid form of money.
But silver increases in price so much more than gold?
I'm a newbie stacker (less than 2 years) and it's been so much fun, learning about this bullion world, learning about different Mints, etc. What I've discovered is that buying silver is addictive, lol! Do a video about that. 😉

I'm also a fan of 1 oz. rounds. My main reason is that I also like to see the different varieties of designs. Yes, I'm stacking silver, but I'm also collecting different pieces of "art"
10 Oz bars I think are my favorite thing to stack. Rounds and coins are still a must though. But those 10 ouncers are just pleasing to handle.

We're at a point where certain govt bullion is equal to or less than generic rounds, so I just go with the official one.
I would say the only exception is if its a round made by a reputable company like SD bullion. That or it has a cool design lol

I mostly stack 10 oz bars until I can trade in for gold. They are just easier to liquidate come time to sell. But I love some Brittania coins and eagles

I’ve always leaned towards maples and philharmonics. I have a tube of eagles- first tube I ever bought.. some kooks. I just started getting Buffalo rounds and am looking into 10 oz bars. I really like the maples… the design, the .9999 fine, they’re just very nice to look at.

I have been stacking primarily 1 oz rounds because they are less expensive then the bars. I have bought 1 kilo bar and few 5 oz and 1 oz bars. I like the idea of having both rounds and bars and will look for good sales on 1oz bars and pick up a few more 5 and 10 oz bars.
10 oz Canadian government bars and Britanias government bars are Superior to buffalo rounds if you have same price deal on them, but buffalo would beat any other generic bars. As of sizes the 10 oz bars are better than 1 oz because if you need some cash the range between $200 and $300 at a time is more common situation to happen for the average person than just the barter size of 1 oz silver rounds or bars. Usually 10 oz bars price is lower than 10x (1 oz) rounds at buying point. The kilo bars (32.15 oz) are also great at buying and when selling it's around $800 (more close to an average weekly paycheck) and that's a nice psychological way to look at it. 1 oz rounds are true the best size to barter as they look like a coin and they represent somehow the $20 bill (the most commonly used currency bill in day to day transactions). So in conclusion the kilo is a paycheck, the 10 oz bar is the best stacker (saving item), the 1 oz silver buffalo round is the silver representation of the $20 bill. It's only my opinions on those real money units!
Until I have enough of rounds stashed, I won't consider bars, however a few smaller bars in a mix until my threshold is reached, I will stick to rounds. Thx for the video guys. 👍🇺🇸

Hi there guys, love your work 👌 To be honest i just sold almost $3,000 worth of 1oz and 2oz coins to be able to purchase my first couple of silver bars. People kept asking why i am selling my coins for bars but personally for myself and the love of silver i just had to be holding the bars as i love to feel a big chunk of silver in my hands and I'm very glad i did. The bullion bars i picked up were from the ABC BULLION COMPANY AUSTRALIA & the bars are actually 500g ( half kilo bars ) which i think is a perfect size bar to hold and treasure 👌
My preference is 5- and 10-ounce bars, but there are some nice-looking rounds I'm interested in.
I would also check prices and do not assume a round is always going to be your least expensive option. SD Bullion and others run specials all the time.
At the time of this comment (Friday June 9 at 9:55pm EDT) SD Bullion is running a special on 1 oz Austrian Silver Philharmonic Coin - Random Year for $3.99 over spot. When I checked, Spot was $24.48 making the Philharmonic Coin cost $28.47 (Check / Wire) for any quantity and the 1 oz Silver Rounds - Design SD's Choice are $28.67 (Check / Wire) Quantity 1-19.
IMHO I would opt for a Sovereign 1 oz coin if it cost less than a generic round.

when storage space is minimal 100 oz bars take up the least space along with lower premium.
I only started stacking few months back so was getting 1oz silver rounds i like the brittiana as they have excellent security features i recently got a 10oz bar space wise is a lot easier to store opposed to 10 one oz coins, i have the stacking bug so will keep going every month silver/gold 😊
I'm fairly new to stacking and at first I decided strictly rounds. Almost 2 months later I have a mixture rounds, bullion, and bars. Most of what I have are bullion mainly due to liking the design better.
Same, I'm also trying to keep the cool stuff no more than 25% of my stack in weight, not price. Still trying to offset the price of the Chad Revolver. I think the heaviest bar I will ever get will be 10oz.

@@bobsilver3983 every time I think about 90% some 1oz coin/round/bar grabs my attention. Shiny things get my attention. Found a 1964 quarter once. It's in a capsule as a keepsake. 1st one ever. Thought about roll hunting to get 40/90 %ers.

By neglecting to bring 5-oz into the comparison, I think you missed the ideal bar size to compromise between 1-oz bars (losing out to 1-oz rounds) and 10-oz bars (nice to hold but not ideal for barter).
I can understand your comment, however, Silver Dragons, quite a while ago did a comparison of 1 ounce, 5 ounce, and 10 ounce. Clearly showing that most people want the one and 10 ounce. So that is probably why he did not include the 5 ounce in that video.

5oz also harder to come by and usually don't represent a savings over 1oz like 10oz often do so you pay around the same per ounce but tie up more ounces in one bar vs 1oz pieces
@@azrielsmith3167 Guess I got good deals on the 44 5-oz bars my wife and I bought because the per bar cost was substantially lower than 5x what the cheapest 1-oz rounds were going for.
@@slapdat.byteme I think it depends on the area and the seller whether they would sell 5oz bars cheaper. I never see them cheaper than generic 1oz or if they are then marginally. I think 1oz have been rising in price recently though just because of demand, maybe from so many TH-camrs hyping them these days.

I buy both, usually whatever with lowest premium… adding coins occasionally and kilo is usually the heaviest, rounds and 10 oz bars most frequently

In California if I purchase less than $1500 in gold or silver or a mix, I have to pay sales tax.
To maximize my purchasing power I save and buy only when I have $1500 or more. Because of premium being so high I buy mostly gold and use silver to fill my cart until I hit $1500. So far it’s taken just a few silver rounds.
So if you are rich and can buy a lot of it there is no tax but if you're poor and can only afford one round you get taxed? Where's Robin Hood when you need him? Oh yeah, its California. He's out robbing the hood.
My pile consists of mostly rounds however I do have some bars only because I could get then cheaper than rounds at the time but Rounds is my go to !!!

I have listened to both of you in the past. You're both wrong. For same price of rounds I get brits kangaroos or philharmonics . I Like some well known bars for weight and price. I have 2 Perth mint silver dragon 1 oz bars. Why? Cause I wanted them. Blackflags coin. Why? Cause I wanted it. Stack is in above mentioned coins.

I'm a round guy. It's my hobby. One of every variation possible that isnt too much over spot. I do have 1 ounce bars and I buy a 10 ounce bar every month.
I'm a bar guy all the way. 10 oz bars are my favorite.
bars have an advantage of being more space efficient. Otherwise, yes, six on one hand, half a dozen on the other.
I agree, rounds are better for small purchases, but 10oz bars are good too, especially if you're making about a $300 purchase... When you start getting closer to a 4-digit amount, you're probably better off buying gold. I like Kilos, but you really have to be careful with those and look for deals. Here is my list of assessment:
1 to 10 ounce rounds/bars - Recommended
Kilo Bars - Sometimes Recommended
100oz Bars - Not Recommened
1000oz Bars - INSANE!!!

I personally stacked more bars than rounds or any gov't coins, I heard they are more pure and I figured for the money I rather get more silver content
I have both and both can be faked. However, I have far more bars than rounds. Specifically, I like bars with security features of hollow-graphic images and serial numbers. I have a Metals-Backed IRA and all my metals in the depository have Serials numbers.
Yesterday, I noticed on the Trust website that a 250gr Gold Bar was missing form the list. I have the email from my online, bullion dealer listing the serial numbers for all the bars and I could tell the Trust the bars: mint name, weight, gold, & serial number. It got corrected very quickly.
I have bars and rounds but Ive been gravitating towards 5 and 10 oz bars. Though seeing a Philharmonic,Maple, or Buffalo Nickel I wont pass up on if a 5oz bars or 10oz bars arent available at some of the coin stores I go to.
I feel the rule is rounds/coins are 1 oz and if > 2oz then certainly bars. Big coins are awkward and waste lots of space. Only exception might be a 5 or 10 oz display coin.

10oz and beyond, bars seem to be the norm. These tend to be sold back to dealers.

Silly question here, maybe 😂, why doesn’t the US mint do a buffalo silver 1oz, it does both the eagle and buffalo in gold, why not both in Silver??
The reason the mint does both gold eagle and buffalos is due to the eagle being 22 karat and the buffalo being pure 24 karat gold. Silver is only available as 999 silver so what would the other coin for?
Poured/cast vs Minted/pressed? I like the cast bars. Feels like treasure.

Both round and bars are great but, I think everyone should have constitutional silver in their stack.
Lcs in Fresno Ca prices generic bars and rounds the same. Rounds tend to have more designs I like though. Really just an artist difference.😊

I like the rounds because it’s hard to take anything out of them undetected.... also the fact it closely resembles coinage, makes it more popular and the variety keeps it from being the same old silver different day.
The premium on Silver Bars comes from serial number tracking. Most rounds do not have serial numbers. But when u buy a bar ur getting a specific bar with a specific serial number as a security feature.

Only rounds I stack are Germania & Engelhard Prospectors, &/or if rare vintage.
For most people making small or medium sized orders from an online retailer, the couple cents difference between bars or rounds won't be enough to overcome their own preference. Like if I prefer bars, I'm not going to buy rounds because of a few cents. And I think the 100oz bars have their place in your stack after you have a sizable amount of small denomination stuff. At 100oz a pop the premium difference adds up fast.
So when selling back to a coin shop or online dealer, will you get more for a 1 oz Round or Bar? Which will bring you more over spot?

I, generally don’t buy bars or rounds. I’ll buy constitutional silver. It is easily recognizable, easy to use, can use it for silver melt can use it as stated value on the coin can use for practically everything. It will never lose its stated value that is stamped on the coin and this is a very important part of the coin because even if everything looses value the coin will still have its stamped value on it. I mean everything else can go on to loose value and you may loose value on everything else but the coins will still have a value on them.
My belief is that bars are better for stacking only at or above 10oz. Rounds are better to stack in the 1oz range. It's that old consumer fact that buying in bulk saves u money in the long run, but it costs u a lot in the short term. Bars are for stacking weight (bulk), and rounds are for stacking for future bartering. In the end, it comes down to what are you buying? SILVER........get it anyway u can (legally) while u can.
bars are $2 less here in Canada ($40.0 for 1oz bar) compared to (41.9 for 1oz silver maple leaf).
In Arizona selling bars you have to show ID rounds and coins you don't.
And I just ordered bars : ) I thought they'd be easier to stack due to shape. Seemed like negligible difference in price when only buying ounces. I like the bars with the flag on them anyway. Good video.
Another thing to think about, some states charge sales tax for bullion sales under $X. In some instances, the tax could make a round cost nearly the same as a coin like the ASE.

Silver rounds, Sovereign coins, 5-ounce bars, and Constitutional 90% silver. Easy sizes for barter.

I don’t have any rounds, only sovereign coins and 10 oz bars. Both are recognized worldwide silver.
If we're going to talk about the psyche of it, for me there is nothing like poured or cast 10 oz or Kilo sized bars. To me these feel like true pirate treasure. For this reason I own no pressed bars whatsoever as those dont feel like treasure in its true natural form..

The problem with big silver is its hard to resale, most dealers will buy smaller silver over the big boys, 1 oz and smaller is best for resale .Actually most dealers wont touch anythong over 5 to 10oz
I stack as a backup and because i dont trust banks in general.
I case we need something to trade the 1 oz rounds will be easier to handle just because people are used to round coins. All other sizes will be better as bars.
I like the mix. 1oz rounds, 10 oz bars and 1 kg for good measure

I love fractional siver , it will be the most usefull in and barter or resale situation if you want to stake a ton just stick with 1oz rounds that have some type of security feature that keeps the counterfiters at bay
3:33 see I don't have a preference necessarily to me silver is silver but I also want it to be recognizable. The last thing I would want is someone to question the legitimacy of my silver. Maybe I'm thinking too hard on it but I love rounds but I can see that getting hairy possibly. And the premiums on constitutional is just not appealing at all right now. The only thing that looks good to me ATM is gold philharmonics.
find reputable mint .. sunshine is good ,, they do the blanks for govt eagles .. their 1 oz rounds and tablets are great and have security features on back too ,, plus no gov sov premiun on them and easy to resell because mint so well known and security feature ,, plus normally get bit more than rounds for them

I will only buy in bulk 1964 Kennedy half dollars and this is why. The silver alloy content of 1964 and 1965-D Kennedy half dollar coins is about 0.36 ounces. Silver is £18.24 an ounce in UK. Therefore, the 1964 Kennedy half, with its 90% silver content equating to 0.36 ounces, is worth $7.84. When I buy a kennedy half dollar I don't care what condition it is & it costs me £6.00 for it. I'm still making a profit on it. When I get enough I melt it into just over 1 kilo bars. And I start again
I like 10 0z bars anything less than 10 Oz I get 1oz rounds usually buffaloes unless they have a really good deal on another 1oz round. I have several kilo bars but now if I'm spending more than 500 dollars I buy gold.

I like the rounds a little better unless you want the larger bars 5+ oz. The mint brand is much more important to me.
I prefer 1oz rounds because they are more like currency and can have really nice design. I can also dispose of in smaller quantities.
You guys had mentioned that it may be harder to resell the big, heavy bars, but if you’re someone who’s able to melt the silver down and recast it into smaller molds, would that be worth it?
