As a south african, these make up about 90% of my stack. They're nice, but honestly every government backed bullion coin has it's own charm. The coolest thing about these IMO is the history
I love Krugerrands because of the name recognition. I prefer Maples and Krugerrands rather than the OVER PRICED Eagles. Few people know Eagles go through a double mark up before you buy one. It is insane. I may not love the old Queen, but she isn't marking them up like Uncle Sam! I haven't had any problem with milk spots on my Krugerrands.
I want one of each government coin from 2020! I said I wasn’t going to be a collector, but having variety makes stacking more fun. Planning on getting a 5 Oz and 2 Oz Aztec rounds next as my first non-1 Ounce coins/rounds.
Love a bit of variety too. Boring to just by the same thing every time. My aim is to buy a variety of coins to see which one I prefer then to buy mainly one type.

These days these coins are actually minted in the USA and mostly (around 80%) sold in the USA. The balance are sent to South Africa for distribution by the Rand Refinery. I doubt there’s any issue with the quality of the coin? Spotting/tarnish is probably only a handling/storage issue. Gold Krugers are minted in South Africa by the Rand Refinery.
What! So they’re not even made in the RSA any more? I’m not really surprised, the country is increasingly corrupt - soon they’ll probably move the gold coinage too! On second thoughts: yes, the matted finish of the 2021 silver Krug is very similar to that of the American Silver Eagle. So, production in the US makes sense.
I love the krugerrand. My first ever coin I saw or held was a gold Krugerrand. I would be buying gold if it wasn't as expensive as it is. I do like stacking silver so that's what I'm doing. Just bought 10 of them.

You missed a couple of interesting feature & probably the most important features of the Krugerrand Coins that were once regarded the best in the World. Firstly there are two security features, 1. Under the Springbok hind legs on the ground area which the animal is moving, its a very fine mark, the name of the President, can be seen with a magnifying glass. 2. Another security feature is in the centre under the Antelope on the ground, its very difficult to make out exactly what it says but I'm keen to find out myself. 3. President Paul Kruger believed the Earth was Flat and he was not alone. So obviously a big eye opener there & some interesting info. This information is no secret & easy to find.. Just an observation. Americans are very patriotic which is great..but it's usually only Americans that will tell you American Eagles are the best coins in the World. Well according to who ? It depends on the finest of the the Silver, after that its personal preference. I'd deffinately put them in the top 10 but not necessarily the best.
You'll never get a silver Kruggerand BU graded so there is no harm in removing milk spots with a pencil eraser. It doesn't mark up the coin and it erases milk spots.
My lcs pays spot on the Krugs but pays .50 over spot for Maples and Phil’s. Personally I like all three with of course Maples being a second runner up to the AE.
The only year worth collecting is the first year “2017” which were a semi proof and a limited production. They came out in 2017 to recognize the first year of the gold coin in 1967. Put some away ...they will be very valuable in the future. Minted 1m only.
Nope. Contacted the S.A. mint. They only minted around 625,000 of the 2017's. The price at issue killed the demand. They are in relatively great demand now and will be worth much as the years go on
That’s good information to know. I know they originally planned on 500k and then switched to 1m but if they only did 625k that’s even better. I know the price gouging when they were released irritated a lot of people but you can’t find them under 40.00 now and most of the online stores like APMEX etc are sold out. As the first year commemorative coin they will be a great collectible. They will mint millions a year of the subsequent years - as just bullion.
most wont be bothered by this because it was so long ago and they may not have even been born but krugerrands still leave a bad taste in my mouth. i remember it well. they had really started to lose favor back in 1984 right before they were banned in 1985. that’s when the gold maple took over as #1. then the very next year the U.S. saw an opportunity to help fill that void and came out with the eagle. people lost a little money on the krugerrands as they started to fall out of favor. spot and a little back compared to maple and then eagles which you could get a little more for. so when new ones were allowed back, i wouldn’t touch because of that and the bad rep they got. but i am old and that’s all history now. it was long ago and things change. i don’t own any but that’s just because i remember all that. to each their own. i’m just old 😅
I really like the Krugerrand's. Picked up a couple of the 1 ounce Gold coins from my LCS dated back in the late 1970's. Have some 2019 and 2020 1 ounce silver. Don't know if they're milked spotted or not. Haven't looked at them recently. Currently the cheapest coin on Monument Metals website. May buy more. Undecided for the moment. Nice video. Thanks.
I scooped up four of those 2017 premium uncirculated Krugerrands a couple months or two ago. They came in capsules with a little COA. According to the COA, a million were minted. They look like proofs kinda. The other eight I have are 2018 BU versions. Those are still in flips right now. I haven't noticed any milk spots on any of 'em. Nice coins tho'.
@@SilverDragons47 I would think they are still available, but who knows for sure. I'd like to get my hands on a couple gold ones tho'. I just got a couple 1/4 ounce gold maple leafs last week.
Hello, I agree these coins are 'milk city'. I own some full tubes and each coin is awash with these marks hence they are in my investment stack and no way in my collection (I am a hybrid bullion buyer).
Just to correct you... The Silver Krugerrands came out in 2017 with a low mintage of 15k. They are the first Silver Krugerrands and have the 50th Anniversary privy marks on them. Them being the first in the series their value is double that of other year coins. Some 2017 Krugerrand coins go as high as $1k across the globe but are cheaper in South Africa. And other silver coins, maple etc can be cheaper than Krugerrands. I got myself some and the proofs and nice. But looking at some Maples next. All the best.
@@BrianPacini I disliked it because it has nothing to do with the price of eggs let alone the price of silver. If you're trying to get views this isn't the method. Google: marketing 101.
the Krug is the majority of my 2021 stack just a coin within a reasonable price almost $7 cheaper than the ASE, Maples a buck or two more so do grab a maple if I get 3 or more Krugs.
Recently started a tube of Ks. I really like these, and they seem to always be a little less than my other options. After these, it's on to the tube of Brits. I want eventually to have a tube of all my fave world coins... of course emphasis on the ASE. ;-)
She is everywhere I noticed she is on palladium coins as well. I’ll suck it up take one for the team! That’s cool to have that many maple leaves awesome!
Personal opinions: I like collecting Mexican coins, but I do recognize that at as to the silver (and to some extent the gold) libertads a premium exists. Mexican pride in purchasing these? Lower mintages? Not sure, but at least in silver the markups it makes a substantial difference based on what I have seen. Given the heritage of Mexico as being the primary silver supplier to the world for centuries, I have decided not to buy the silver libertads but instead buy the older circulating silver coins with real numismatic value. Mexican gold coins do offer an interesting option when it comes to fractional gold where they they appear to be competitive in price (and even cheaper than most American gold fractionals). Based on my purchases over the last few months I find the Silver Krugerrands to be a more reasonable value than the other nation issued buillion coins. I don't believe there remains discounting of either gold or silver krugerrands due to South Africa's past history of apartheid. I know some suggest we can expect South Africa to eventually issue some form of Mandelarands in the future. Just some thoughts.
I love Krugerrands cause I imagine Robert Kiyosaki flying behind enemy lines to buy a gold Krugerrand from a Vietnamese woman with red teeth yelling spot
Paul Kruger was not the President of South Africa, he was President of the Transvaal a Boer Republic which the British invaded and occupied during the Boer War in 1899 to 1903 and stole all their gold.
I don't like them at all, even though the premium is lower than other coins/rounds. I rather stack silver maple leaves or Britannias. The feature I do like though is that it doesn't have the mugface profile of the freaking queen Elizabeth II!
i was gonna ask about this,,i was hoping maybe they fixed this issue by now as i would like to order some myself,,but not when the milk spotting is twice as bad as Canadian maples..shame really like the design..
So what you're saying is I should go out and buy a bullion coin for $3 or $4 over spot and then go down to my store right afterwards and sell it for sCRAP
As a south african, these make up about 90% of my stack. They're nice, but honestly every government backed bullion coin has it's own charm. The coolest thing about these IMO is the history

They look like proofs kinda. The other eight I have are 2018 BU versions. Those are still in flips right now. I haven't noticed any milk spots on any of 'em. Nice coins tho'.
Smart. The only year worth owning. The rest of the years are just bullion and less desirable than many other minted coins.
I have sold at least 1000 of the Krugerrands in the past 2 years, and have never, I repeat, never had any milk spotted
the 2017s are cool I wish I had gotten one... oh well 😏🔥🐉
@@SilverDragons47 I would think they are still available, but who knows for sure. I'd like to get my hands on a couple gold ones tho'. I just got a couple 1/4 ounce gold maple leafs last week.
I got a couple but don’t plan to stack a ton of them.🔥🔥
very cool! gotta have a few 😏🔥🐉
Hello, I agree these coins are 'milk city'. I own some full tubes and each coin is awash with these marks hence they are in my investment stack and no way in my collection (I am a hybrid bullion buyer).
yeah I stack and collect as well 👍🏽🔥🐉
I'm just into bars so far but this was very informative. What do you think of the 1oz and 10oz american flag silver bar?
those are great! if I was buying bars I would only ever get the cheapest possible 🤷🏽♂️🔥🐉
All the best.
no the 2017 krugs had a maximum mintage of 1 million. they ended up doing about 600k 🔥🐉
@@SilverDragons47 Oh maybe I'm thinking of the proofs only had 15k mintage.
I want eventually to have a tube of all my fave world coins... of course emphasis on the ASE. ;-)
great looking coin
Seeing how South Africa produces a lot of platinum, why don't they make platinum Krugerrands?
I know what you mean, I can’t stand the queen either.
lol for sure 🔥🐉
She is everywhere I noticed she is on palladium coins as well. I’ll suck it up take one for the team! That’s cool to have that many maple leaves awesome!
Great info. Thanks
you are welcome thanks for watching! 🔥🐉
I also bought a silver Kruger Rand ( 2020) and it also have a little milk spotting.
Very nice I do like, but in the UK right now they are TWICE the price of spot!
Favorite Coin
yeah its cool for sure! 🔥🐉
Does South America Have Mint And Proof Sets Too ?
I don’t think so 🤷🏽♂️ they have the 2 ounce though I know in BU 🔥🐉
They are nice coins indeed. Haven't seen any deals on Silver ones. Some on Gold.
the deals are out there. sign up for all of the email lists! 🔥🐉
GWT THE AWESOME STUFF
oh yeah 😁🔥🐉
Silver Krugerrands sell back well over spot, close to the Maple Leaf
The 2022 coins are selling now
British gold sovereigns have been around for hundreds of years. Without a queen (or king) it lacks a certain authenticity.
Good Video! 🐥👍
Got these from the random coin Ed bullion and got 4 stacks of these brand new 2020 wow!
Are silver Krugerrands technically coins and not just bullion? So you can trade these into a shop without doing paperwork?
cool coin one day i will have one lol thank you for this vid
yeah it is cool for sure and you are welcome! 🔥🐉
Finally got one today,HELL yeAH😀
These worth picking up $6+ over spot?
The one government bullion I don't have. I try to stay local so selection is slim but the prices are cheaper
yep cheaper is better! 🔥🐉
I don't like them at all, even though the premium is lower than other coins/rounds. I rather stack silver maple leaves or Britannias. The feature I do like though is that it doesn't have the mugface profile of the freaking queen Elizabeth II!
On order.
I like them
I quite like them, but I wish their mint would improve quality as far as milk spots. I don’t need to buy any more that look trashy.
yeah the milky ones are less desirable 🔥🐉
I wouldn't doubt if these eventually increased in value. I don't see the South African government staying in power forever.
I like maples and Britannias
I have one . It is a nice coin .
Iv got a couple of the 2020 rands and they came to me new with milk spots.
Almost a orange hue spot.
Cool coin though
bummer... maybe try cleaning them 🤷🏽♂️🔥🐉
i was gonna ask about this,,i was hoping maybe they fixed this issue by now as i would like to order some myself,,but not when the milk spotting is twice as bad as Canadian maples..shame really like the design..
ShOwStOpp3rr
Out of the 10 me and the lady bought 6 of them had milk spots upon arrival.
I’m not buying more!
Picked up a roll of 2020 and I have 5 singles. I may grab more 2020 or wait on tje 2021's
very cool stack on my friend! 🔥🐉
wow
it’s a cool coin for sure! 🔥🐉
So what you're saying is I should go out and buy a bullion coin for $3 or $4 over spot and then go down to my store right afterwards and sell it for sCRAP
yes do that 1 million times and you will be very wealthy. it’s free money 🙄🔥🐉
I am requesting an update from all TH-camrs in the stacking community that made a New Years Stacking resolution video to please do an update, thx!
good idea! 🔥🐉
