  • This tutorial video demonstrates the process of designing a warehouse steel structure using structural engineering software. The tutorial video walks through the following steps:
    1. Setting up the basic geometry of the warehouse, including dimensions and grid layout
    2. Defining materials and structural elements (columns, trusses, purlins, and sheeting)
    3. Creating and assigning section properties for different structural members
    4. Modeling the roof truss and replicating it along the structure
    5. Adding lateral supports and bracing
    6. Defining load cases, including self-weight, live loads, wind loads, and seismic loads
    7. Assigning wind pressure coefficients to different zones of the structure
    8. Creating load combinations as per Eurocode standards
    9. Running initial analysis and checking deformed shapes under different load cases
    10. Releasing moments at truss joints to better represent actual behavior
    11. Performing steel design checks and iterating section sizes for optimization
The video emphasizes the importance of balancing safety and economy in structural design, aiming for utilization ratios between 0.8 and 0.9 for most members. It provides a practical example of using structural analysis software to design a complete warehouse structure, from initial modeling to final member sizing.
This tutorial is suitable for structural engineering students and professionals looking to understand the workflow of steel structure design using computer-aided engineering tools.

Hi sir, if there is steel frame, the top cord is rafter IPE and the bottom cord is RHS, shall we move the bottom cord - RHS- to lower level ? because in reality the IPE - top cord- is connected say by end plate with the column! and thus shall this be reflected on sap?? or shall we keep them as it is in sap - all are center to center- without shifting the bottom cord to down by move command

hello sir if the releases are made in truss the srruct ure is shown unstable but if you don't make releases, the structure is shown stable. sir. why is it, sir? could u explain this, please sir?

Hello! When we assume pin-connected joints (releases) in trusses, we simplify the analysis by focusing on axial forces in the members, which is the primary load-resisting mechanism in trusses. A properly designed pin-connected truss can be stable and effectively carry the applied loads, as long as it has adequate support conditions and a suitable arrangement of members to maintain overall equilibrium. And the truss in this example is stable, you may see the deformed shape, but that does not mean unstable.
