      We have dead and live and wind . When we want to combined it with wind load (we have 12 case generated by the software) which case will use it in general combination equations

    Very insightful video, however is there any tutorial on how to assign wind loads for circular surfaces, I feel like it gets tricky when considering the direction and since we are not defining a direction I wonder how it has to be assigned (in the form of exposure to shell elements)

    Hello sir, its a really good video. as in ASCE 7-16 that the minimum wind load is 0,77kN/m2, can i just input them to the cladding as distributed load, same way as we input shell load for floor plate but in local axes this time. thanks in advance.

    • @AFMathandEngineering
      @AFMathandEngineering  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks!
      I'm not sure about the ASCE but if you're going to use this method yes you should input as a distributed shell load, however in most cases the code requires a linearly increasing wind load which is difficult to apply here. Also most buildings are not going to have the minimum wind load and you'll have to calculate that load. In the case where you have a multi story building I suggest applying wind load using diaphragm which is more accurate code wise.

    sOO which is better? Applying loads using claddings or using diaphragms?

    • @AFMathandEngineering
      @AFMathandEngineering  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      For actual code design diaphragm is far better, you can better input code parameters and have more control over your loads.

  • @LEBMG34
    @LEBMG34 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello, is there a specific way to draw the cladding. i did the same steps you did but when i draw the Cladding nothing shows up (its as if i didn't draw anything). Can you please let me know if there is any setting that i should have on? if not is there another way that i can apply the wind load onto the columns and beams directly in the direction that i want (lets say in the x direction)?

    • @AFMathandEngineering
      @AFMathandEngineering  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You probably have visibility of null shells turned off. Try turning them on it should fix the problem.

    • @AFMathandEngineering
      @AFMathandEngineering  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, for actual design it's recommended you apply your wind load directly to diaphragms, see our video on this topic here: th-cam.com/video/KHb0mABCofE/w-d-xo.html

      @@AFMathandEngineering ok perfect thank you soo much i will try that out.. sorry one more thing I cant seem to know how to angle the wind to the direction that i want and the force that i want. lets say i want to have the wind hit on the elevation in the x direction and 10 KN/LM. how could i do that?

    • @AFMathandEngineering
      @AFMathandEngineering  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LEBMG34 not sure where you're from but the code doesn't specify that wind be applied in diagnoal directions, usually only orthogonal directions (x and y) plus eccentricities that produce torsional moments that also must be designed for. Consult your code to see what is required.

    I added some floors to the building i made, but when i look at the response plots and look at diaphragm drifts those additional floors have 0 drift like the curve just stops once it reached those newly added floors. Do you know why this is happening. I am still a novice at etabs

    • @AFMathandEngineering

      It sounds like you may not have defined those new floors as diaphragms. Otherwise those floors would be experiencing some drift.

    WHAT IS THE DIFFERENT BETWEEN THIS ONE AND WIND DIAPHRAGM

    • @AFMathandEngineering
      @AFMathandEngineering  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suggest you download the lateral loads manual from CSI on ETABS and review it to find exactly how both are calculated based on your code and where you're from. However, the wind loads applied to cladding as done in this video calculates the lateral loads based on the exposure area that you assign as cladding in the program. Wind loads to diaphragms generates and applies equivalent lateral forces and torsional moments directly to diaphragms defined as rigid. Using a different q value, either for structural or non structural elements may also be required. Which you want to use and in which situation is up to you as a designer. Hope that helps.

    • @AFMathandEngineering
      @AFMathandEngineering  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a bit too general of a question..what do you mean no result?

    • @joejoe4172
      @joejoe4172 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      After pressing "run analysis", nothing was changed.
      In your video, your window was changed to "3-D view displacement". But in my case, the window was still "3-D view Wind pressure coefficient".

    • @AFMathandEngineering
      @AFMathandEngineering  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joejoe4172 That's not really something I can comment on unfortunately, it may be that ETABS has some sort of bug that isn't letting it run, or that it doesn't automatically go to the deformed shape and you need to manually check the results. if the little lock is closed, that means that the model has run. If it isn't you'll have to try to troubleshoot that error yourself. Good luck!
