I loved the Nemo when I first sat in it. So much so that I bought 3! The more I used it, the more uncomfortable I felt and the less I liked it. Not comfortable for eating in, the sides crowd your arms and elbows. I ended up returning them and have continued my search. .
I just bought 2 Opliy 13.5 inch camping stools rated at 320 lbs for bike pack camping. At 1.5 lbs I know there are lighter options but not many that can support my larger body weight of 265 lbs and the $22 price tag can't be beat.
Hi mate, I am very similar I have a few camp chairs myself and comfort means EVERYTHING. I can see myself in that Stargazer Luxury and it'll be worth every cent / penny / dime / nickel. Currently, I have backed the Talon 360 on a Kickstarter campaign. Another I am considering is the 'Kelos' High-Back armchair 2.0 with matching Footrest. Anyway great comparison 👍
Great looking chairs but because of a bad leg, weight and age I couldn't get out of any of them. I'd love a review of chairs for use by people with limited mobility. I often carry the Portal Tall Slacker Chair Folding Tripod Stool on a walk but it's not very comfortable.
Vango (UK) make a helinox type with a higher back. Micro tall. Sure I’ve seen the same but different brand name. The slight weight and bulk over the helinox was worth it on my motorbike camping trip.
ozark trail has one thats almost exactly like the helinox but for like 10 bucks and honestly i like it more then the cliq cuz the cliq felt to flimsy and not stable even on flat ground and ended up returning it
I paid $2 for my camping chair in 1982. Still going strong. But now I am old & fat I need a chair that the butt does not sink down & stays much firmer & a bit higher off the ground because it is getting hard to get out of it.

The helinox is a cool chair but I can't ignore that there are chairs of the exact same design, size and weight included, on the market for $35 dollars. Based on reviews the quality is about the same a few small differences but worth the 40-50 bucks probably not.
Nice review. One comment from long use - the Helinox style chair (we got ours at REI) depends on shock cord to hold the parts in place. After a few years, the cord wears out (meaning, it loses it's elasticity) and you have a really nice chair that won't stay assembled. Nope, can't replace the shock cord. We found a work-around with 3mm cord, but it it's annoying. We'd definitely check out the expensive chairs to see if there might be the same issue. Good luck on your 1000 subscribers, we'll do our bit!
I can't speak for the Helinox copy cat chairs, but you definitely can tighten or replace the internal shock cords of the Helinox chairs, the exact same way you'd replace the shock cords of a lightweight tent's DAC poles. You can remove the smooth rounded "nub" at one of the ends and take up some slack of the cord or replace it altogether. Good luck!
@@kimberlymayo9951 Right you are - they are really good about it. We had the chairs for several years and it was discontinued, so no joy. But we're ok with it - got good use from them and we're actually still using them with that 'workaround' we mentioned.
Thank you so much for this clear review of a variety of chairs! I have an old Pride Family fold-out that I've been using for years to play guitar on my patio in the summer. Unlike most patio chairs, it has no arms. You can't play guitar very well on a chair with arms! And I haven't been able to find another chair like that for a friend who wants to jam with me. So I saw an ad for the Cliq chair, but is it any good? Your video was very helpful! Nemo won't work for me because it has arms, but Cliq is looking perfect. And I'm thinking about that stool because (before the pandemic) I sometimes got stuck in crowded public transit with no place to sit and I have a disability that makes it difficult to stand that long! Would be helpful to have that thing in my purse in case of transit emergency or other too-long standing situations. Thanks!

I have the luxury star gazer but can not use it. I have terrible fibromyalgia which means lifting myself up out of the chair is impossible. Can you do a video on light weight compact chairs for people with disabilities?
Yeah, it can definitely be a challenge to get in and out of. I don’t have many chairs that match that description right now, but that’s a good idea for the future
Would you consider selling the 17" stool to a disabled camper? Honestly, I'd carry it with me as I often have to sit whenever I'm out as I have a bad hip. If you'd consider it, let me know. :)
Some of these chairs might be okay but they all seem way over priced when you can get a fairly comfortable, albeit a little heavy, folding camp chair at Walmart for under $10
Hey I’ve been looking for a camp chair that doesn’t seem to exist. What I want is a chair that pack really small but sits upright. Picture sitting at a table. For me it’s all about fitting it into my sprinter van but I’m not 25 so I need something that sit up straight and is easy on the back. If you ever find something like that let me know.
If you aren't logging significant miles with a pack, the replacememt for that old chair is the NEW $25 version of that chair. They only weigh 8#, people, they're comfortable and unlike most of these others, you don't have to sit a ceryain way to stay on them.
Fair enough and a lot of people like the Nemo but I got one and absolutely hated it. Hated. For starters it was impossible to get the thing stretched to put the pins in the slots. It looks easy when you do it but I couldn’t. I don’t have great hand strength and I have some arthritis. I took it to REI and the sales girl there was sitting and trying and straining and struggling. I left her to do that and went up to look at shoes, went back and she’d finally gotten it together but it took her a long time. I originally thought if anyone there could put it together, I just leave it on the pigs, toss in the car, take it home and let it sit and stretch, but it was such a hassle and I didn’t like the comfort of it so I just returned it. But I found it so uncomfortable anyway. For me it really wasn’t worth it and my 6‘2“ husband didn’t care for it, either. We,wanted something for stargazing, something that wouldn’t be as bulky as a folding lounge chair to have for the occasional meteor shower. But for us this Nemo is not it. Too bad because it was on sale for around $100 for that weekend! Usually they’re just ridiculously expensive. But the other thing is it wasn’t comfortable for us. Especially for me with a broad female butt. I’m not fat, but I’m not lean back there, either. And that stiff mesh fabric where the ridges gather just felt like steel bars. I kept getting up and looking at the one in the store to see if they had some sort of support rods back there. But I would’ve put up with it for the occasional meteor shower - and that’s about it. The rest of the time I could sit in something a bit more traditional to enjoy the sky. (We van camp, we don’t backpack, so we can bring a mix of compact chairs - If we plan to go to a major meteor shower I might just invest in a couple of padded loungers to bring along. We can carry them outside on the rear ladder). So that’s a different perspective from a 5‘3“ female with a broad-ish butt. But the Cliq looks like a serious contender for a couple of chairs just for carrying easily and tossing out/folding up quickly. Thanks.
The legs on many of those chairs sink into the soil which is a complete pain. Yes, there are accessories to remedy, but they cost about half as much as the chair and increase the weight by 8 to 20 oz.
You can make pvc tee (use four of them) for each leg and attach with shock cord link 2 by each end of the cord like you keep mittens together. Each tee becomes a foot. Keeps it from sinking in.
Given the guarantees, I would expect the more substantial brands like Nemo and Helinox to perform well. Some of these, though, I would expect you wouldn’t plan to use in 0 degree weather anyway. Sitting outside in the cold in a mesh chair sounds pretty rough to me, haha

REI used to make a stool that's just like the BTR stool. There's had a back rest. I like how small it stowed down, but it was not comfy for long periods of time. My wife has the Stargazer Recliner, and it is comfy. The cupholder is a little awkward, especially if have a container that's open like a cup. It is possible to spill onto your leg. Also, be careful with those legs. Then tend to snap in pretty abruptly and I've gotten pinched a few times trying to set those up. One thing with almost all of the chairs here, they are pretty low to the ground. While resting my feet on the ground, my knees are higher than my hips in all of these chairs. You really have to tuck in your feet underneath and lean forward to get yourself to get out of these chairs. The Stargazer chairs add a degree of difficulty to them when you realize that they swing. My wife came across a Stargazer knock-off from Costco that is taller and is easier to get out of, but it is actually pretty heavy and takes up more room than a traditional bag chair. At the end of the day I still like my old fashioned bag chair the best, I just wish it was as light and stowed down smaller. I look forward to seeing what the future brings. I has been nice to see some new designs lately to shake things up.
I have the taller model and i agree that the taller one is the way to go. The shorter one is not worth the weight savings, taller one provides better comfort, easier to get in and out of, totally worth it on a backpacking trip.
I know people are divided about packing a chair on trail but for me there is no way I'm going to add over a pound to my pack when I have a sit pad and a log.
I bought the Nemo Stargazer and it was the most uncomfortable chair I have ever sat in! I couldn't recline or sit up in it. Hard to set up with those poles in the back. I returned it the next day.
Requirements of a camp chair include: 1. Seating height at normal seating height. Something that you find yourself having to collapse down into, and rolling out of is not smart. Take Helinox to the junk pile. 2. Has to have a back rest. Add all of those stools to the junkpile. 3. Comfort. You sit down to relax. Any chair that has a bar across the bottom of your thighs will restrict circulation. That’s right - the junkpile. A light weight chair that has served me well for about 15 years now is a Roll-A-Chair. It is nice. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying.
Helinox is for a specialty buyer. Helinox is for a fit backpacker not a car camper. So only send it to the junk pile if your idea of camp is 10 steps from the truck. Even though the REI ultralight chair is a better option in my opinion at 1 pond.
Honestly, I wouldn’t take any of them. There are great alternative and cheaper options to take. For actual backpacking, if you want a chair it would be with a backrest. Stool are useless in my opinion, because you can sit on rocks, logs, your backpack, dirt mound, possibly hammock and more. Stool style sitting is too easy to create. Sitting higher of the ground with backrest is harder.
The problem I encountered with the helinox are as followed: With softer ground (hardly any rocks here in the woods) it sinks into the ground. Increasing chance of bending/breaking the legs. (Which has happened) The backrest is quite tilted allowing you to lounge, but you can’t sit-up straight and especially for taller people the size isn’t right. Broader people won’t sit comfortable either in this bucket style seat. For the price of a Helinox there are sturdier and more comfortable options.
There's a chair that crushes all of these in every category...any zero gravity chair...up to 420lbs capacity...no other outdoor chair should even be thought about or even produced at this point....these old camp chairs are literally obsolete.
Those are great, BUT they’re typically heavy and huge. Kind of a pain to stow in a car or lug to a campsite. I think they’re in a different category than the options I covered here.

Some are rather expensive, and most sit to low for older people who have a hard time getting in and out of them.
Yeah, they’re mostly higher end models that are meant for adventuring more than anything.
Where are all the cup holders? haha
Requirements of a camp chair include:
It is nice.

Helinox is for a specialty buyer. Helinox is for a fit backpacker not a car camper. So only send it to the junk pile if your idea of camp is 10 steps from the truck. Even though the REI ultralight chair is a better option in my opinion at 1 pond.
You drink Yoohoo, opinion invalidated.
But seriously great video, no one else has done a good comparison even a year later.
Haha, thanks man

Love back - from the USA :-)
How can this be the best of 2022 if this is from 2020?
Because there haven’t really been any new releases that challenge this list. Just updated the title :-)
Dan Becker would know which is the best camp chair.
Helinox chair zero is for backpacking. 1 # or 17 oz with sack.
The problem I encountered with the helinox are as followed:
With softer ground (hardly any rocks here in the woods) it sinks into the ground. Increasing chance of bending/breaking the legs. (Which has happened)
The backrest is quite tilted allowing you to lounge, but you can’t sit-up straight and especially for taller people the size isn’t right. Broader people won’t sit comfortable either in this bucket style seat.
For the price of a Helinox there are sturdier and more comfortable options.

We are Camping chair manufacturer,
Love your videos and you are handsome ...
Haha, thanks?
There's a chair that crushes all of these in every category...any zero gravity chair...up to 420lbs capacity...no other outdoor chair should even be thought about or even produced at this point....these old camp chairs are literally obsolete.
Those are great, BUT they’re typically heavy and huge. Kind of a pain to stow in a car or lug to a campsite. I think they’re in a different category than the options I covered here.
