    best MAC tutorial channel. everywhere on the web you see a lot of negative reviews about how limited macbooks are in terms of productivity tools while this guy singlehandedly (or team-handedly if that makes sense) makes everything look and feel easy for people like me how have never owned a Macbook and would like to switch to Macs. Thanks man.

    i've been a Windows & Microsoft fan for 19 years (basically since I was 5 y/o), & i transitioned to my first Apple Macbook around August of 2020, along with my first iPhone in Nov of 2020. being a huge computer geek, i felt amateur when i went into Apple's ecosystem, but this made me so much more comfortable. i can't believe now i'm starting to become a power Apple user. thank you! the more I use Apple, the more I don't regret the switch, especially becoming a power user at it. Bootcamp ftw too for gaming

    Thanks for the tips! I've just set up Mail after not using it for many years. I still don't fully understand (nor do I like - so far) the signature feature. It seems clunky and limited in design functionality compared to Outlook. For example, I've brought in my company logo, but I can't seem to resize the logo to fit my signature block. Would love to see you do a session on setting up signatures, because I'm sure I'm doing something wrong...and all the old nightmares about why I left Mail are creeping back into my head, and I want to like Mail...I really do!

    Thanks Gary for your videos. Its very easy and crisp with appropriate content.
    It would be great to have a video which can help to show how to maintain the space occupied by these mail apps. All I know so far is that once we setup these mailboxes on Mac, it downloads the mails for each mailbox locally and starts occupying space. This local space later becomes trouble to clear.
    Thanks in advance.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just a list of contacts? Any text that is a comma or space-separated list of email addresses should do. But note that if the list is long you probably shouldn't be using a regular email service, but a email newsletter or marketing service.

    Just found you, Gary, and this and the 10 tips were both super useful -- and I've used Mail for about 11 years now! I can't find an answer to my specific question anywhere. Would love to see a little video about sidebar FOLDERS and all the do's and don't's. :-) I have 2 different email accounts for work and I manage a lot of different tasks/issues...so I have tons of folders to keep myself organized. At this point, each email account has the same set of folders because there is a lot of cross-over between the 2 emails. But the duplication is making me crazy (and the either the search function sucks or I just haven't figured out how to use it well). I really don't care which email the message started from/to. Is there any reason I cannot / should not just have one set of folders in the primary (as in receives the most emails) account -- let's call it A@gmail.com -- and move emails from B@gmail.com into those folders for organizational purposes?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean the Rules? Not sure what could be wrong, sorry, but don't use them. Using single-client filters or rules only makes sense if you only ever get email in one place (no second computer, tablet, phone). Instead use your email service's server based rules so the rule/filter is applied on the account, not locally.

    Thanks, Gary. I've been using Macs since 1990 (Classic) and yet I learn something new from every video of yours that I play. Thank you for these great and informative videos. One issue with my Mail has been bothering me for the last few years and I can't find a solution. 90% (yes, some do work as I expect them to, but most don't) of attachments that come to me never download into Mail. All I get is an icon saying Downloading ... and the file never downloads. It sorta hangs there as "Downloading". If I go to my mail provider (e.g. Gmail) the attachments are there and I have to download them separately and they work fine. I've tried searching for solutions to this, without success. Any idea what's going on with Mail in these cases?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, there is just the one way. Note that how it appears to the recipient depends on which email client they have (app, device, etc) and their settings. You never have full control over how basic email and attachments look at the other end. Just add the attachment to the bottom of your message if you like and then it is up to the other person.

    Nice video with good tips. Thank you. I have an issue that has bugged me for many versions of MAC OS; I am currently running Mojave. In the Mail app, Preferences>Accounts>Mailbox Behaviors, I have settings so the trash gets emptied when I exit the app. The problem is, this doesn't happen all the time. There have been many occasions where I exit Mail and restart it and see the Trash still has emails. If I stop Mail again and restart it, again the messages are gone. Why doesn't this happen consistently? Thanks

      Not sure why it isn't working all the time for you. Maybe something fixed since your older version of macOS? Either way, I don't see it being a big issue.

    Gary…in my Mac Mail in Bi Sur I don’t get the badges next to the individual mail boxes. I’ve tried everything to get them to show up. Is there a setting I’m missing?

      Do you mean unread counts? Could be your email service isn't sending those.

    Hi Gary, Can you change the pane colour in Mail?

    • @macmost

      Pane color? Do you mean the background behind things in Mail? There's no way to set the color, but you can switch to Dark Mode.

    Thank you! How do you add a text box next to a picture?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You really can't. At least not easily. My recommendation is to avoid images in signatures anyway. Including an attachment in every single email you sent will raise your bandwidth use, raise the bandwidth use of everyone you send email to, slow them down (especially while on mobile) and can be a general annoyance to the recipient. Just keep it simple.

      @@macmost Thanks. This ? isn't about a signature, which I don't have. Let's say I want to email you a song file, along with a small pic of the original album cover and some text about the song. I just drag the .jpg of the album cover right into the compose email window, easy enough, and I position it to align left. This leaves a lot of free space to the right of the image, which is where I'd like to insert both my text and the song file, but I can't find a way to put anything to the right of the image (except another small .jpg). If I put my cursor to the right of the image and start typing, I see a blinking vertical line running along the right edge of the pic, but any text I try to add drops down to the very bottom of that line. So what I'm asking is how to insert text so it's "next to" the image. Is that possible? Hope that's more clear.

      @@issadad Not with the Mail app, no. There aren't advanced layout tools like that. You can definitely do it with HTML documents in email, but I don't think any major consumer email app lets you compose emails like that.

      @@macmost Ok, thanks. Supposedly you can create a floating text box in Word, then insert that box into an email in any position. But I couldn't get that to work for me. How wd you feel about another bigger question re: your tip on moving DRAFTS down to On My Mac. I need help figuring out how to do that, as Google is sending me email alerts that I've used 90% of my Google storage, and all I have with Google is one Gmail account. (I also have an iCloud address but Mac stores that nit Google). The problem is: In my MacMail window, all my self-made folders archiving old emails (which I should convert to Smart Mailboxes) show on the Left column UNDER "On My Mac." But when I go into Mail Prefs - Accounts - Mailbox Behaviors - then click Drafts Mailbox (just like you do in your video), down drops a very long column, where I see all those same folders, all indented under GOOGLE. Scrolling all the way down, I see On My Mac (not indented), with only one item under it, another file called Drafts, which could be a duplicate or a recovered folder. So there's this discrepancy between what shows in Mail Prefs and what shows on the Left in the Mail window. As a result, being an idiot I don't know which to trust and where these folders actually live, or if Google is backing them up, which might be causing my storage issue. As you advise, I'd like to have every folder that I created myself -- all mail except the main folders (INBOX, SENT, JUNK, TRASH) -- live On My Mac only, but I couldn't quite see on your video HOW you did that. Sorry about this, please feel free to ignore it. And thanks regardless.

      @@issadad I doubt drafts is your problem. But set it to On My Mac/Drafts if you want to avoid having drafts saved to Gmail's server. Saving everything else locally probably isn't a good idea unless you only have one device (no phone, no second computer or tablet) and have a good backup system in place. Instead, why not go to the Gmail website and take a look to see why your storage is full. Maybe search by size there and see if you have a few huge messages, etc.

    Hi Gary great video, can we schedule mail in apple mail app

    • @macmost
      @macmost  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. If you have professional reasons you need to schedule email, then probably best to look for a pro email service that has that as a feature. Otherwise, just set a reminder to send that email at that time.

    Hello Gary. Do you use the column view or you don’t prefer it? Do you use side bar or favourites at the top? I was wondering are there any keyboard shortcuts for: triaging the emails (moving up and down in a thread and from a thread to another),moving emails to folder. Would love to be able to add snippets or follow ups to my emails (macOS Monterey). Wondering if we can change default keyboard shortcuts to something else, would it work?

    • @macmost

      I don't use column view. I use the regular sidebar, though favorites at the top is a good option too. I use the keyboard shortcut for Archive for everything and never move anything to folders. See th-cam.com/video/WxJ1J9RhfQU/w-d-xo.html

      You can set up any rules you like, but I suggest doing it at the server level (iCloud, Gmail, etc) not using the client for that. Chances are you use more than one client, right (Mac, iPhone, iPad for instance?)
