They are in their 20s now, and are both university graduates! They were given a solid foundation when they were given speech therapy. One of my sons even graduated with first class honours!!!!! It's TRUE, but a lot of people simply dont understand that you aren't speaking enough TO the child. Instead we're talking FOR them and taking what we know they are trying say. This isnmy sons problem. Will be 3 in a few weeks. Well, he is talking, but it's all blurred. No consonants.all vowels. I work a lot, the oldest isnt as helpful. Basic teenager, mother imdpes that thing where she gets it, so she just follows, never really correcting. I know he'll get where he needs to be but if the set up around him was kore oriented for his help, he'd already be speaking volumes, like other kids his age I've seen that are CLEARLY speaking. You can see the interactions and the influences they have.

My younger sister did not talk until she turned almost 4. Consulted a lot of doctors until then. They all said she will speak not to worry. Now she is in HR ND and is a non stop chatter box

This video and your comments gives me hope. I’m so stressed over the fact the my son is 2 years old and is hardly speaking clearly. Often times he’s babbling. Whenever he wants your attention he will take your hand and pull you towards whatever he wants. I can also see the frustration on his face because I know he wants to talk so we can understand.
Heyyy same with my son. When he wants milk he will take my hand and lead me to where his milk bottles are. He's copying gestures, copying dances on youtube it's just that he dont talk much but he can say some words like dont, come, red, blue etc and some letters on abc
My son does the exact same thing. No matter how much we try, he just takes our hand or pushes us to the thing he wants. He just turned two and he barely says couple of words. Reading comments here makes me feel not as stressed about the matter, knowing we are not alone.
My son was a pandemic kid, we live in melbourne australia where we had the longest lockdown in the world. Basically lived all his life for most part lockdown, while he developed really well he is struggling with speech he is almost 2 now only says mama dada and one word “car” that’s all, we are now seeking a speech therapist for him, we are not alone many lockdown kids are same.
Yep. Same with my son. First time I took him out at 3 he was asking about the weird lights on the floor. He had never seen florescent lights before. 🥺 He's an extrovert so it was super tough on him. He has speech issues as well.
To everyone who might need to hear it on this thread: if you see signs of autism in your child, it may be because of too much screen time. Please search "virtual autism" as it has become very common during this pandemic. My child has all the symptoms but when taken off all the screens, he has started getting better (especially at eye contact and socialising). Good luck to all of us in this pandemic world.
That's exactly what happened to my son. Cut off nearly any screentime ( only half an hour in the morning and another half in the evening before bedtime stories) and it's made a huge difference. And it's inly been one week. He even started napping again and his night terror have almost entirely subsided. There is still a lot of work to be done, but he is slowly thriving.
Don't pressure urself mother. We all feel the same way. we just need to be patient and stay communicating to our child. My son is 2 years and 8months old. He only speak few words which he only heard from us daily so we always try to teach him new words and gestures to communicate with us. We don't rush him to speak coz he understands us in some ways and he's a smart kid and always curious in everything. He can manage anything by himself like pulling a chair and climb up the table to get a glass of water or putting his toys on his bag after playing etc.
I have my 2 year old in early intervention. She has taught me lots of exercises that I do with my some of random times of the day. He really loves the interaction and engagement. He thinks it’s fun and probably isn’t aware that he’s learning. I see the progress little by little everyday so I’m completely encouraged to take 10 mines out the day a few times a day and sing sings and teach him words and phrases. He may not say the words but I can hear him babbling the melody. It’s so cute. I taught him to clap today which is big bc soon he will see that as a way to show excitement. Slowly he’s checking his milestones off the chart.
Omg youre whole video is for me i swear! My son is 21mo and doesnt say words. He babbles like no others business, but doesnt say any words. He is VERY aggressive and has slapped me right in the face! I can tell he is frustrated that he cant speak. Its alot of dadadadadauuuhhuhuhhh.. or varying pitches of uhhh.. and yayayayayayayayayamamamamamamaaa.but cant make the p or w sound. We had an evaluation last week, so hopefully well be seeing a speech therapist soon. They said there is only one in our town. I work with him at home and watch ms. Rachel on youtube. Pray for us.

my daughter is 2.5 years old she says her ABC"s and can count 1-10 , she just babbles otherwise i was recommended that she get an eval.. so speech therapy and occupational therapy will be starting soon...I really feel that she knows a lot and is fully aware she just cant let it out yet and she will when she's ready Lord willing.

My Son is turning 2 next month .He could read A to Z and 1 to 10 when he was 15 months old .He not talking , Sometimes he just says “No “ and “wait “.Most of the time he say ABC . When I called his name he don’t respond .Sometime he not interested what happened to other people. I think speech issues are the hardest thing for both kids and parents to go through. I never realized how difficult the English language is to speak until I had kids. It has caused so much frustration. It effects literally everything. I always worry if kids will make fun of him or if the teacher won't like him if she can't understand him. I didn't discipline him correctly as a toddler bc he didn't speak and I didn't know if he understood the rules. So this led to behavior issues. I even regret his name bc he can't say it. He can write it though. He yells at us sometimes bc "we can't hear him" so I have to explain it's annunciation, not sound. We spent literally 20 min. trying to decipher "look at that dirt pile" while driving on the highway. 🤣 I try to make a joke out of it, but then worry he's looking at it like teasing. Just a lot of emotions with it. I know it's common and most kids outgrow it. It's just frustrating, especially when I see 1 year olds talking in complete sentences. My kid didn't talk until he was close to 3.
The waving thing has been debunked. Toddlers and babies are instinctually meant to question who is around them other than their mother/father. They will not always want to interact and wave and be all bubbly with new people. It is extremely common to question new people.
well why some don't even wave at their parents and family members they see every day? and there are many happy children that wave at strangers all the time. it has NOT been debunked.
See my child isn’t talking yet he’s 21 months but he understands everything we say. And I mean he actually understands. We dont use our hands to talk to him and he can follow any demand we give him. Like “go throw that in the garbage please” etc

I have a one year old who has spent most of her life quarantined and minimal interaction with other children and I wonder if that is a contributor to her semi delayed speech? She says a few words (mama, dada, baba) but no other words. I’m a first time mom so honestly I’m not sure if that’s a normal amount or not.

I talk to her constantly but the bigger words just aren’t coming along. I will say, she is very verbal and constantly babbling to herself so maybe she is saying words and I just can’t make them out.

Hey! I wanted to know if you've seen any improvement in speech. I have a 17 month old who isn't talking (mama, dada, nana and no is the limit). Is your baby talking now? If so what did you do?
I wouldn’t worry the baby is only one years old that is not a concern my baby is doing the same thing I have 3 children they all talked late but they walk early and did everything else two oldest are honor students with absolutely no speech delays try not to compare your child to others or fit them into a timeframe read the other comments each child is different it’s just like a doctor telling us we all have to be a certain weight yes that’s ideal but we are all unique and different I wouldn’t be concerned until the child is like two 1/2 3 years of age
At the age of 20 months, my little girl went to see a speech therapist, because she spoke her fantasy language and knew only 20 real words. Everything was fine with the speech therapist, but she still speaks her language. Of these 5 characters, she has 2. Now she is 2.5 years old, she tells some short sentences of 2-3 words, she knows colors, numbers in two languages, her name and how old she is, she repeats most of the words. But I notice that children her age talk more than she does. She normally lives in a bilingual environment. I need advice sometimes I think it’s ok and sometimes I worry.
My son in law spoke to his therapist and she said same thing: her one child didn’t speak until 3. I had 2 children who started speaking at 6 months, one at 3. But, he used pointing and hand gestures, and then at 3 spoke in full sentences. So, I wasn’t concerned about my grandson at first. Now, what his father does is not to acknowledge is that Max had many more words 6 months ago, now, almost none. Speech regression is totally different than a late talker. Beware uninformed parents getting information with uninformed information.
Using sign language with young ones helps SO MUCH with communication, especially when they struggle with language. It is always good to get an evaluation from a trained professional. Best of luck to you!
My son is almost 2 and he used to say about 5 words and then quit altogether. We have a speech therapist but he really isn’t saying much yet. His receptive language is awesome though. We are hoping he’s just a little behind. He says “ba” for everything

The way our pediatrician mentioned to us is that yes in many cases the baby or toddler will catch up on their own BUT the thought is the things that seem behind some to do speech, physical therapy or both so that when you get to pre-k the child worse case is even to ahead of the curve instead of counting on catching up naturally and being behind the curve. Then everything can amplify in a negative and bigger way when they go to pre-k.
I think a lot of people who come here are concerned their child could be on the Autism spectrum. So are comparing this with speech delay. That gap between 2, 3 and 4 is massive and you get explosive development bursts which seem to come out of nowhere. Just relax and give your child the time to develop in their own individual way, they will get there. Try not to compare to others. Obviously I’m not suggesting not to give help to those that need it. But Just save yourself the torment of making your own diagnosis from relentless google searches. Kids are stressful! Toddlers do most of the early ASD “red flags” in normal day life or play, so again don’t be too quick to panic as they will likely grow out of them. The ones they don’t it’s simply because we are all on the spectrum in some way or another.
Kindly don't misguide people living in denial is no way going to help a kid with ASD he or she needs early intervention to live stable life.. don't screw up their future just because you don't want to accept their condition... kindly don't mislead others keep your absurd theories to yourself and let the professionals handle the rest.
@@siddharthbehura was that directed at me as I wasn’t sure? Personally I was just speaking as a parent who’s child was labelled by private nursery staff early on. I posted my comment in a moment of genuine relief as those red flags have all disappeared as I write this. Friends of ours had a similar experience. I don’t do denial, I am just not so quick to judge.
my son is 19 months and uses a lot of sign language to communicate wants, ( down, up, hungry, food, tired, ) etc. Some words are there....I know more should be, but he says a new word every week, everyone is at their pace.
My son has all of this ...some people keeps telling me go get him check cuz I know he might have some issue ....he was such a good baby until he was 1 ....than he started to watch TV and smartphone and he started to close himself up . We went to the doctor he did alla the test and everything was ok .No screen time and no smartphone ....He started to improve but in this day he still is not talking ...he says Ah for everything .. points towards everything he wants or wants to show me . And the dog says wof wof .....I am about to start speech therapy and hopefully it will help
Hi, my son is 3 years and 2 months old, he doesn’t speak at all. He understands language, he knows words and wants to talk. If we see a blue car, I’ll ask him “what colour is this car?” And he will make the B with his mouth but won’t say it, and this goes for many words. He maybe says we words at random here and there. Yesterday he said “done” after finishing his dinner , but it’s so random. He definitely understands language as I can tell him what to do without doing any hand motions and he know what I want. He is obviously very smart, can count, learns very fast yet the speech is where he is delayed. I spend a lot of time with him in the car and I try to make him call things but then He gets mad at me. So I back off and give him a break. I don’t believe he is autistic and he doesn’t exhibit any traits of autism. We want to send him to school next year but I am worried he will not have a good time due to that delay. Should we get him into speech therapy or continue trying at home?
My daughter is 20 months old and is “talking” (over 100 words) but she only says part of a word.For example for dog she says da, cat is ca, happy is hap. She does this for all words she is learning and I try to get her to repeat the word the proper way. Her pediatrician wants to wait until 2 for a referral to speech therapy.

My son is 16 months old, and not talking like at all. He’s said like mama or dada a few times. He tries to say our dogs name. He doesn’t like to play with other kids. He almost seems terrified of other kids. He plays by himself a lot. I’ve tried showing him shapes and bought him educational toys to help with talking and doing other things. I’ve talked to his doctor about these signs . He didn’t seem too concerned. He said if he’s 2 years old and still “grunting” to communicate; he’d be a little bit concerned. In the mean time, I really don’t know how to help my son. I had him at 19 and just recently turned 21.

My son turned two in December, and he uses some words but not nearly as much as he should. When i get his attention, he seems to pick the things up but once his attention is gone, it's hard to get him back to wanting to learn. My son had evaluation today. He is almost 24 months. He says about 10 words and few sentences. The thing I was worried about was autism. But he doesn't have problem with finger pointing, he mostly responds to his name, doesn't have repetitive behaviour, has great eye contact. So they eveluated that his motor skills are good, non verbal comunication also good, but understanding of the language is at abput 16 months and language at about 1 years (baby language). They said that he needs speach therepy because he probably want talk on his own mostly because he tends to give up easely if something is to hard to lear and has short atantion spann.
My granddaughter is 27 months. She doesnt even put two words together. Her 2 older sisters were talking good at that age. Their mom was talking at that age as well. But it good just be speech delay. My daughter is afraid she has autism. The doctor just wants her to see a speech therapist.
My 16 month old doesn't say any words, he used to say "mama" a bit not towards me just as a sound but now he doesn't even do that. I'm waiting for an appointment with a speech therapist but with everything going on I have no idea when that will be.
What happened did your baby talk now? My baby is 18 months old and she has the same issue I am worried so much. Earlier she used to say babababa mamamama and 'bye' now for a month she is not saying any thing just nenenene for every thing. I don't understand probably she is watching baby rhymes in English and we used to talk in a different languages. Probably she is not able to understand the language.😔

My son just turned 4 he’s still behind a bit but talks and communicates great. My biggest pet peeve when we were in the early years was people telling just read books to him as though that was it. I just ignored it they meant well
I know a child who literally babbles, they are almost 4. Mom is convinced it’s because they are learning two languages and they are getting confused. We keep telling her that we (and myself directly) work with many children who are learning two languages at once, and they can communicate perfectly fine with words not just sounds. Also seeing that I am not a fluent Spanish speaker yet, mom is convinced I just don’t understand even though another child came up to me, spoke to me in Spanish, While the mom was standing there, and I answered the child in English and there was NO CONFUSION between me and the other child. I feel bad for that child not getting the help the need.

My son is literally almost 3 and will not communicate! He says words like, uh-oh, oh no, sit down, up, apple, thank you, goodnight, fish, cat, candies, cookies. He knows his colors and can count to 20, but doesn't seem capable of having conversation! I read to him and all those things but nothing. He throws a fit and grunts when he sees me and his mom talking to one another or other people. But when we try and talk to him he just stares or looks around. He understands most directions like, "Close the door" "Come here" and "Turn the light on/off." I don't wanna blame the pandemic, but me and his mom were all he's had any socialization with during his first 2 years of life. He's learned so much, but communication is where we struggle. The fact that I'm on youtube for this speaks for its self😭😭😭 Its heartbreaking as a father honestly.

My son is 3 1/2 and exhibits 4/5 signs. I’m concerned and have been seeking speech therapy but everyone has costs we just can’t afford right now. He was our first child and we as first time parents could benefit from some direction
You can have him evaluated and they will do the speech therapy for free (if he qualifies) as early intervention. Then he will receive speech therapy. If he's in school like preschool or daycare you can ask to have him evaluated. Otherwise your pediatrician can send you to a speech therapist to be evaluated. Either case they drag their feet so you do have to sorta push the issue.
My son has all of these and he is 5. I thought it was autism but the psychologist said it wasn't. We have been to a speech therapist and she say she can't help him cause she thinks is something else than just speech delay. So I don't get any help from anyone and I'm so stressed about him starting school. I live in Sweden and we don't have private speech therapists or home schooling program :(
My child is 21 months old now. She is not communicating with us. She doesn't try to tell or ask for anything. When she see something like food, water, snacks she shows her interest making some excited actions. Thats all. Has not started even call mom or dad. I'm waiting to get my son evaluated. He's 15 months and hasn't said his first word. He didn't even babble "mamama" and "bababa" until after his first birthday, and still no other consonants. Not to mention no pointing or waving or clapping.
I used her stance -- you can't just say however "go get 'that" for me' unrealistic. If you hold your hands down and say go get me your cup, or ball. My son is able to do this, parents try it that way but use a word.
Would it still be considered a speech delay if my child is really good at understanding but doesn’t talk much? Everyone believes my child is “advanced” or whatever at understanding but he doesn’t say as many things. He is 19 months and I can tell him “go get me a diaper” and he will go into another room, find the diapers, find the wipes and bring them back to me and just every day things like that like throwing things away, cleaning up toys, I say “bath time” he goes upstairs to the bath, I say “time to brush our teeth” and he will run to the bathroom, grab his stool and put it in front of the sink and grab his tooth brush. “Time to read a book” he goes into another room and grabs the book. Idk there is just so many things he understands without gesturing (and more with gesturing obviously) but he probably says like 10 words.
My grandson just turned 4 and he can talk but often decides that he doesn't want to. He also still talks a little gibberish and usually keeps his talk at a low tone. He does play with other children and wants to be around other kids. Much of his talk is in a cartoon like tone where he is imitating voices from cartoons and his father who often talks to him with cartoon like voices. He is very independent and if he wants something to drink rather then ask he just goes to the fridge and get it himself. Or he has opened up the pantry door and stated "Google, find snacks". He is a very big boy for 4 ( wears a size 8) so when people see him they expect a lot more. He never does things on command, only when he wants to. How can we get him to talk and communicate better. We are in Florida. Ant suggestions?

I have a daughter who just turned 3 in nov she can talk, but does not necessarily talk to us or make conversation with us she will say she needs to go to the potty or simple things like drink or other things she may want. She will also repeat things that you say if she feels like it, but you are not really able to ask her what she is doing or things along those lines she just won’t answer and almost acts like she doesn’t hear you (we have had her hearing checked and it is fine). she is also not very sociable some days she is more Interactive than others. She usually will not say hi or bye to people and does not make a lot of eye contact although some days she is better with this than other days, but a lot of times she will not even acknowledge other adults. She is very smart like she knows her ABCs and can also recognize them she can also count to ten and sometimes higher, very good at puzzles and other things, but it seems like she is having issues in some ways with social skills and in ways communication. I stay at home with her and she is not around children a lot of the time. She recently in the last couple months started saying mommy and daddy and although she knows her name and will repeat it she will not tell me it if I ask her. She also seems to have problems with directions a lot of time. Some family members think she may have some kind of a learning disability or even autism. I am very hesitant on accepting this, but wonder what you may think or what kind of therapy may be needed.

I feel like we wont know the impact of lockdowns on these children for a long time. My son was born dec 26 right before we went into lockdown and he has suffered. Not only because we couldn’t leave the house, but also because I was swamped helping my kindergartner with virtual school. At my sons 18 month appointment I am going to ask for 0/3 I feel like a failure 😞
Agreed 100%… at my daughter’s nursery they did mention they have seen similarities across the kids due to the limited interaction they had at the early stages during lockdown … no baby classes, not family interaction etc. You’re not alone! Stay strong we are in it with you!
I tried to talk to my son’s doctor about him not speaking hardly at all he can say dada and bye. He is 19 months old. The doctor literally told me that I was letting him point and grunt rather than trying to get him to communicate without even doing an assessment.
My daughter just squeaks like a parakeet unless she's saying "neigh neigh" for horse, mama, dada, "mmm" when she likes something she's eating, and "ooo ooo aaa" for monkey. She's 16 months old. Not sure if this is a delay I should be concerned about or not.

My son is speech delay, I’ve been trying to read to him yet he doesn’t make words. And I’m worried I’ve tried “EI” and they don’t help at all they just did an assessment and they didn’t even follow through with home visits they mentioned a speech therapist but never came trough with some either. My son use to say dada, bye bye and mummy but now he doesn’t really talk. Once in a while he says mummy but when asked to repeat it he just smiles. Do i need to see a speech therapist?
My son is 26 months. He hasn't had time with other children because of the pandemic the past year. We live in Costa Rica with no neighbors and he's having to learn 2 languages. He know lots of words but he just says one word at a time. He will respond to detailed requests like "get that and give it to mommy." Should he be saying sentences? Are we making a mistake by keeping him away from people during this pandemic? I can't get him to keep a mask on and all the parks are closed here. What can I do to help his development?

So I made a mistake by watching this video and thinking "how come my kid is 18 months and not fluent in English already?". Mamas if you are watching it please don't, talk to your pediatrician instead. I was so worried that my kid says only about 10 words at 18 months then I go to my pediatrician with my crazy thoughts and he shows me the chart where it says 2-3 words at 18 months in addition to mama, dada! Don't watch TH-cam videos about your child development Iike I did but talk to a real doctor instead!

Katie Rideout my son he put lot of things together but not in right way like : me nursery papa. Or « a me slide « for example if he want to go to a slide. I’m waiting for speech therapy as well because he love to sing or talk 24/7 but nothing proper yet
@@nataliatalamali1355 my son won't use "I" or "me" he will just present you with something "open" or sometimes "open please" or "night night mommy!" And run to his bed when he's tired. 2 months later, 8months total this far waiting for speech therapy and still no call yet.
Thank you for this video. My daughter just turned two. She can sing multiple songs and even quote movies perfectly, however when it comes down to communicating she isn’t good verbally. My husband and I are both mommy and she will say simple things like up please, hi, bye, bobo (our dog), Oo yummy, and some other things but isn’t good telling us what she wants. She will grab me by the hand take me to the toy or area she wants to play with and point at the object she wants me to play with her with but doesn’t verbally say what she wants. I called my pediatrician today and they are going to send a request to jhach to get evaluated. They won’t see he till may (I put her on the cancellation list too. Hopefully by then she will say a lot more. Crossing my fingers she is a late talker. She is developing in other areas more than speech, like math, building, art, has advanced motor skills, and excels in crafts cooking and more. I’m not concerned her having autism she is just delayed in verbally communicating.

My daughter does the same with taking our hands to what she wants and points at it and says please… I will then point at the item and say what it is for future reference or help her repeat it but she doesn’t at the moment.
Also i noticed that she learns anything fast n keeps repeating them whole day or for some days n then she looses interests in those words n doesn’t want to utter them again after few days. She has learnt 1-10 numbers n some alphabet but all in English language n all rhymes she has learnt in english. Surprisingly hindi is our mother tongue n we speak all the tym at our home in hindi n she doesn’t pick a word of this language
Sadly, my five year old son still struggles to speak. Also, he doesn't really concentrate/understand certain commands. So I go slow now, struggling to study as well. Really hoping this phase will pass. So much pressure on the parents
Yes I did. Told me to talk to him a LOT. Some days are great, but the other days I turn anxious and keep questioning him why is he talking to himself about the cartoons? Adventures are his fav or infact any child I suppose.
We did go through a year of speech therapy and he has definitely improved. Just need him to concentrate into things so probably he would frame better sentences. 😃 He is bilingual also and just started school. Apparently, the first time he attended, the school is online. 😅😊

My son is 2 years and 2 months. He does not talk at all, say words that is. He understands when we ask him, for a kiss, when we say thank you, and he hands us items, when we say shoes, he knows that means we're leaving or going outside. He babbles and he grunts, a lot. We're struggling because he does not know how to tell us what's wrong, so he will cry and gets frustrated. We don't know what to do. I want t help him, and even if I do repetition he doesn't seem to repeat what I say.

That’s literally my son.. he doesn’t have any interest in what I have to say or if he sees new people.. he actually doesn’t like new kids he would literally cry and when our visitors will leave he would be so happy.. he doesn’t wave or say hi and definitely doesn’t make the sounds it. He is 15 months now and I don’t know it makes me really upset. Oh and on top of that he doesn’t eat on his own and everything should be smashed like purée. He doesn’t know how to swallow anything.
23 months and id say hes closer to 50 words than 200. Trying to get a speech therapist to come see him. Realistically, can he catch up? I feel horrible.

My son definitely gets frustrated trying to communicate with me, and I think he only understands my gestures, but not what I’m saying. He says words and will string 2-4 together to form “sentences” on his own and can repeat my words and short phrases, but has trouble expressing what he wants and mostly babbles. He just turned 2 five days ago. His pediatrician recommended speech therapy yesterday at his 2 year visit.

Yes, though she couldn’t get a good read on his vocabulary because almost the entire appointment was a temper tantrum because he was tired, but it was a temper tantrum with almost no words. I’ll watch some more of your videos, and I think I may also get the course. Anything to help him progress.
I’ve noticed that alot of parents are unwilling to recognize their children have speech delays. I’m a children health care worker and often I see children who are 2 years old and still baby talk and when are spoke to, they have no idea how to communicate. Or they are unable to form simple sentences such as “ I’m hungry”.or “ where are you”. Simple things like that. However, when I speak to parents about it, I’m often faced with “ She talks a lot, she knows a lot.”. I understand parents may not feel happy when told that their child needs help. However, because of their ego, the children end up not getting the kind of help they need.
My 2.7 months old speaks.. I think his issue is when we ask him his feelings he doesn't express it. I ask him daily how are you? How was your day.. he doesn't answer but he repeats.. I asked for a speech therapist New Jersey stated he doesn't qualify.

My daughter will be 3 in July of 2021. She Babbles a lot. I usually know what she wants 95 percent of the time but she does get mad and frustrated when I don’t know what she wants. She actually started out with words then stopped using them. She would say puppy and a few other ones but has stopped like she is not interested anymore. Her ears are great and we have been seeing an SLP but I feel like it’s really not helping. It’s only been like a month and a half but still.

A friend’s 2 1/2 yr old only says ‘ehhhhhh’ while pointing. It is very annoying to me when I am with her. I have not heard her say anything. She also gets very upset if she is around other kids she does not know…to the point of having to leave the event.

My sister is 5 and she can only sing and say her name. She cries and points when she wants something, she hardly answers her name, she's always oblivious of her surroundings. I don't know if it's just speech delay or it's that and autism. I have being asking my dad to get her checked out and he keeps saying nothing is wrong with her, that she's just slow and would pick up.

As an adult on the autism spectrum my difficulty among other things is communicating with others socially often invisible in a crowded room, ashamed to have this problem. When people ask me certain questions it takes me time to respond. Often they get upset at me for not answering right away, I have to think about the question and process it and still struggle with stuttering to make a clear answer, Anyway, do you work with adults too or is it only kids, or how do you know if a speech therapist is a right fit as an adult? My son is 20 months old and doesn’t use many words. He says “mama”, “dada”, “yeah!”. I know they should use 50 words by 2yo. He plays with other kids, jabbers to us and other kids, and waves with excitement, but doesn’t speak clear words. I know boys are typically behind on speech than girls, but I know there should be more clear words used by now. I will definitely speak with someone to come evaluate him.

My little boy will be fifteen months tomorrow and says only two words. I’m reading him his baby books and talking to him trying to teach him new words. He is also not standing or walking on his own quite yet. He is cruising and has great fine motor skills and is where he should be in a lot of things. Just a bit later then the average. His physical therapist says we can set up an evaluation with speech therapy early, though they usually do that at closer to eighteen months, I guess.
My son is 17 months and doesn't speak a word. He does not respond when his name is called. He does not focus when we talk to him. Can't understand anything. Really worry about him !!

Our three year old granddaughter does not have any level of conversational speech and her parents are too busy glued to their cellphones to recognize that their is an issue. They need to put down the phone and pay attention to her development. It’s frustrating... 🤷🏻♀️
This is so relatable. Soon as you said babbling my son says 3 main words, which are Dora (childminder is Laura and can't say it yet), dada and ugh (grunt). He's 18 months, and I'm in the UK and tried my health visitor for almost a year with no luck, my childminder is also helping with the referral and soon as he hit 18 months they were able to escalate it on my behalf x

My girl turned 14 months yesterday and she doesn’t say any words at all. I’m stressed now. She is social, interacts, if I tell her to get her dummy she will grab it, but otherwise no words yet.

Hello Mam, My daughter is 3.2 years old, she might have a problem of speech delay, she has started repeating since 1 months back only. She repeats few things which she likes, but doesn't make sentences, or communicate with us. Her screen time was more the last year, it was a huge mistake we made and due to covid, she was not going out anywhere, but eventually we have reduced the screen time. We talk to her the whole day, but she doesn't communicate us back. We have admitted her in a playschool, which she will be going from the next month. Mam please suggest, what should we do, should we wait for some time, after she goes to playschool, or we should consult a doctor.

They are in their 20s now, and are both university graduates! They were given a solid foundation when they were given speech therapy. One of my sons even graduated with first class honours!!!!!

It's TRUE, but a lot of people simply dont understand that you aren't speaking enough TO the child. Instead we're talking FOR them and taking what we know they are trying say.

I work a lot, the oldest isnt as helpful. Basic teenager, mother imdpes that thing where she gets it, so she just follows, never really correcting.
I know he'll get where he needs to be but if the set up around him was kore oriented for his help, he'd already be speaking volumes, like other kids his age I've seen that are CLEARLY speaking.

Heyyy same with my son. When he wants milk he will take my hand and lead me to where his milk bottles are. He's copying gestures, copying dances on youtube it's just that he dont talk much but he can say some words like dont, come, red, blue etc and some letters on abc

My son does the exact same thing. No matter how much we try, he just takes our hand or pushes us to the thing he wants. He just turned two and he barely says couple of words. Reading comments here makes me feel not as stressed about the matter, knowing we are not alone.
My son was a pandemic kid, we live in melbourne australia where we had the longest lockdown in the world. Basically lived all his life for most part lockdown, while he developed really well he is struggling with speech he is almost 2 now only says mama dada and one word “car” that’s all, we are now seeking a speech therapist for him, we are not alone many lockdown kids are same.
Yep. Same with my son. First time I took him out at 3 he was asking about the weird lights on the floor. He had never seen florescent lights before. 🥺 He's an extrovert so it was super tough on him. He has speech issues as well.

To everyone who might need to hear it on this thread: if you see signs of autism in your child, it may be because of too much screen time. Please search "virtual autism" as it has become very common during this pandemic. My child has all the symptoms but when taken off all the screens, he has started getting better (especially at eye contact and socialising). Good luck to all of us in this pandemic world.

You gave me a new hope
That's exactly what happened to my son. Cut off nearly any screentime ( only half an hour in the morning and another half in the evening before bedtime stories) and it's made a huge difference. And it's inly been one week. He even started napping again and his night terror have almost entirely subsided. There is still a lot of work to be done, but he is slowly thriving.
Don't pressure urself mother. We all feel the same way. we just need to be patient and stay communicating to our child. My son is 2 years and 8months old. He only speak few words which he only heard from us daily so we always try to teach him new words and gestures to communicate with us. We don't rush him to speak coz he understands us in some ways and he's a smart kid and always curious in everything. He can manage anything by himself like pulling a chair and climb up the table to get a glass of water or putting his toys on his bag after playing etc.
There are definitely a lot of pressures on mothers, you are doing great teaching his and being patient with him.
I have my 2 year old in early intervention. She has taught me lots of exercises that I do with my some of random times of the day. He really loves the interaction and engagement. He thinks it’s fun and probably isn’t aware that he’s learning. I see the progress little by little everyday so I’m completely encouraged to take 10 mines out the day a few times a day and sing sings and teach him words and phrases. He may not say the words but I can hear him babbling the melody. It’s so cute. I taught him to clap today which is big bc soon he will see that as a way to show excitement. Slowly he’s checking his milestones off the chart.

Omg youre whole video is for me i swear! My son is 21mo and doesnt say words. He babbles like no others business, but doesnt say any words. He is VERY aggressive and has slapped me right in the face! I can tell he is frustrated that he cant speak. Its alot of dadadadadauuuhhuhuhhh.. or varying pitches of uhhh.. and yayayayayayayayayamamamamamamaaa.but cant make the p or w sound. We had an evaluation last week, so hopefully well be seeing a speech therapist soon. They said there is only one in our town. I work with him at home and watch ms. Rachel on youtube. Pray for us.

my daughter is 2.5 years old she says her ABC"s and can count 1-10 , she just babbles otherwise i was recommended that she get an eval.. so speech therapy and occupational therapy will be starting soon...I really feel that she knows a lot and is fully aware she just cant let it out yet and she will when she's ready Lord willing.

I never knew "ah" for things wasn't so normal! That as well as the other signs is what my 2.5 year old does!
I think speech issues are the hardest thing for both kids and parents to go through. I never realized how difficult the English language is to speak until I had kids. It has caused so much frustration. It effects literally everything.
I always worry if kids will make fun of him or if the teacher won't like him if she can't understand him. I didn't discipline him correctly as a toddler bc he didn't speak and I didn't know if he understood the rules. So this led to behavior issues. I even regret his name bc he can't say it. He can write it though. He yells at us sometimes bc "we can't hear him" so I have to explain it's annunciation, not sound. We spent literally 20 min. trying to decipher "look at that dirt pile" while driving on the highway. 🤣 I try to make a joke out of it, but then worry he's looking at it like teasing. Just a lot of emotions with it. I know it's common and most kids outgrow it. It's just frustrating, especially when I see 1 year olds talking in complete sentences. My kid didn't talk until he was close to 3.
The waving thing has been debunked. Toddlers and babies are instinctually meant to question who is around them other than their mother/father. They will not always want to interact and wave and be all bubbly with new people. It is extremely common to question new people.
well why some don't even wave at their parents and family members they see every day? and there are many happy children that wave at strangers all the time. it has NOT been debunked.
See my child isn’t talking yet he’s 21 months but he understands everything we say. And I mean he actually understands. We dont use our hands to talk to him and he can follow any demand we give him. Like “go throw that in the garbage please” etc

I have a one year old who has spent most of her life quarantined and minimal interaction with other children and I wonder if that is a contributor to her semi delayed speech? She says a few words (mama, dada, baba) but no other words. I’m a first time mom so honestly I’m not sure if that’s a normal amount or not.
Hi CMC, this is a rough time to be raising a little one with quarantine and far more social isolation. That could certainly be part of the problem. Do you read to her every day? Talk to her throughout the day?

I talk to her constantly but the bigger words just aren’t coming along. I will say, she is very verbal and constantly babbling to herself so maybe she is saying words and I just can’t make them out.

Hey! I wanted to know if you've seen any improvement in speech. I have a 17 month old who isn't talking (mama, dada, nana and no is the limit). Is your baby talking now? If so what did you do?
I wouldn’t worry the baby is only one years old that is not a concern my baby is doing the same thing I have 3 children they all talked late but they walk early and did everything else two oldest are honor students with absolutely no speech delays try not to compare your child to others or fit them into a timeframe read the other comments each child is different it’s just like a doctor telling us we all have to be a certain weight yes that’s ideal but we are all unique and different I wouldn’t be concerned until the child is like two 1/2 3 years of age
At the age of 20 months, my little girl went to see a speech therapist, because she spoke her fantasy language and knew only 20 real words. Everything was fine with the speech therapist, but she still speaks her language. Of these 5 characters, she has 2. Now she is 2.5 years old, she tells some short sentences of 2-3 words, she knows colors, numbers in two languages, her name and how old she is, she repeats most of the words. But I notice that children her age talk more than she does. She normally lives in a bilingual environment. I need advice sometimes I think it’s ok and sometimes I worry.

My son in law spoke to his therapist and she said same thing: her one child didn’t speak until 3.
I had 2 children who started speaking at 6 months, one at 3. But, he used pointing and hand gestures, and then at 3 spoke in full sentences. So, I wasn’t concerned about my grandson at first. Now, what his father does is not to acknowledge is that Max had many more words 6 months ago, now, almost none.
Speech regression is totally different than a late talker. Beware uninformed parents getting information with uninformed information.
Using sign language with young ones helps SO MUCH with communication, especially when they struggle with language. It is always good to get an evaluation from a trained professional. Best of luck to you!
200-300 words is WAY more than most 2 year olds are saying. The standard is closer to 50 words. Please stop spreading misinformation.
My son says around 80 words and like 15 are 2-3 words combined his pediatrician sent him to get evaluated.
Now that I have a multitude of children I can say less than 200-300 words is underperformance
1 yrs old ~ 50 words
3 yrs old ~ 250 words
My son is almost 2 and he used to say about 5 words and then quit altogether. We have a speech therapist but he really isn’t saying much yet. His receptive language is awesome though. We are hoping he’s just a little behind. He says “ba” for everything

The way our pediatrician mentioned to us is that yes in many cases the baby or toddler will catch up on their own BUT the thought is the things that seem behind some to do speech, physical therapy or both so that when you get to pre-k the child worse case is even to ahead of the curve instead of counting on catching up naturally and being behind the curve. Then everything can amplify in a negative and bigger way when they go to pre-k.

I think a lot of people who come here are concerned their child could be on the Autism spectrum. So are comparing this with speech delay. That gap between 2, 3 and 4 is massive and you get explosive development bursts which seem to come out of nowhere. Just relax and give your child the time to develop in their own individual way, they will get there. Try not to compare to others. Obviously I’m not suggesting not to give help to those that need it. But Just save yourself the torment of making your own diagnosis from relentless google searches. Kids are stressful! Toddlers do most of the early ASD “red flags” in normal day life or play, so again don’t be too quick to panic as they will likely grow out of them. The ones they don’t it’s simply because we are all on the spectrum in some way or another.
Kindly don't misguide people living in denial is no way going to help a kid with ASD he or she needs early intervention to live stable life.. don't screw up their future just because you don't want to accept their condition... kindly don't mislead others keep your absurd theories to yourself and let the professionals handle the rest.

I posted my comment in a moment of genuine relief as those red flags have all disappeared as I write this. Friends of ours had a similar experience. I don’t do denial, I am just not so quick to judge.

my son is 19 months and uses a lot of sign language to communicate wants, ( down, up, hungry, food, tired, ) etc. Some words are there....I know more should be, but he says a new word every week, everyone is at their pace.
Same! My daughter is 19 months too and mostly signs to communicate. I feel like she’ll speak when shes ready.
My son has all of this ...some people keeps telling me go get him check cuz I know he might have some issue ....he was such a good baby until he was 1 ....than he started to watch TV and smartphone and he started to close himself up . We went to the doctor he did alla the test and everything was ok .No screen time and no smartphone ....He started to improve but in this day he still is not talking ...he says Ah for everything .. points towards everything he wants or wants to show me . And the dog says wof wof .....I am about to start speech therapy and hopefully it will help

Hi, my son is 3 years and 2 months old, he doesn’t speak at all. He understands language, he knows words and wants to talk. If we see a blue car, I’ll ask him “what colour is this car?”
And he will make the B with his mouth but won’t say it, and this goes for many words. He maybe says we words at random here and there. Yesterday he said “done” after finishing his dinner , but it’s so random. He definitely understands language as I can tell him what to do without doing any hand motions and he know what I want.
He is obviously very smart, can count, learns very fast yet the speech is where he is delayed. I spend a lot of time with him in the car and I try to make him call things but then He gets mad at me. So I back off and give him a break. I don’t believe he is autistic and he doesn’t exhibit any traits of autism.
We want to send him to school next year but I am worried he will not have a good time due to that delay.
Should we get him into speech therapy or continue trying at home?

My daughter is 20 months old and is “talking” (over 100 words) but she only says part of a word.For example for dog she says da, cat is ca, happy is hap. She does this for all words she is learning and I try to get her to repeat the word the proper way. Her pediatrician wants to wait until 2 for a referral to speech therapy.

My son is 16 months old, and not talking like at all. He’s said like mama or dada a few times. He tries to say our dogs name. He doesn’t like to play with other kids. He almost seems terrified of other kids. He plays by himself a lot. I’ve tried showing him shapes and bought him educational toys to help with talking and doing other things. I’ve talked to his doctor about these signs . He didn’t seem too concerned. He said if he’s 2 years old and still “grunting” to communicate; he’d be a little bit concerned. My son turned two in December, and he uses some words but not nearly as much as he should. When i get his attention, he seems to pick the things up but once his attention is gone, it's hard to get him back to wanting to learn. My son had evaluation today. He is almost 24 months. He says about 10 words and few sentences. The thing I was worried about was autism. But he doesn't have problem with finger pointing, he mostly responds to his name, doesn't have repetitive behaviour, has great eye contact. So they eveluated that his motor skills are good, non verbal comunication also good, but understanding of the language is at abput 16 months and language at about 1 years (baby language). They said that he needs speach therepy because he probably want talk on his own mostly because he tends to give up easely if something is to hard to lear and has short atantion spann.
My granddaughter is 27 months. She doesnt even put two words together. Her 2 older sisters were talking good at that age. Their mom was talking at that age as well. But it good just be speech delay. My daughter is afraid she has autism. The doctor just wants her to see a speech therapist.
My 16 month old doesn't say any words, he used to say "mama" a bit not towards me just as a sound but now he doesn't even do that. I'm waiting for an appointment with a speech therapist but with everything going on I have no idea when that will be.
What happened did your baby talk now? My baby is 18 months old and she has the same issue I am worried so much. Earlier she used to say babababa mamamama and 'bye' now for a month she is not saying any thing just nenenene for every thing. I know a child who literally babbles, they are almost 4. Mom is convinced it’s because they are learning two languages and they are getting confused. We keep telling her that we (and myself directly) work with many children who are learning two languages at once, and they can communicate perfectly fine with words not just sounds. Also seeing that I am not a fluent Spanish speaker yet, mom is convinced I just don’t understand even though another child came up to me, spoke to me in Spanish, While the mom was standing there, and I answered the child in English and there was NO CONFUSION between me and the other child. I feel bad for that child not getting the help the need.

My son is literally almost 3 and will not communicate! He says words like, uh-oh, oh no, sit down, up, apple, thank you, goodnight, fish, cat, candies, cookies. He knows his colors and can count to 20, but doesn't seem capable of having conversation! I read to him and all those things but nothing. He throws a fit and grunts when he sees me and his mom talking to one another or other people. But when we try and talk to him he just stares or looks around. He understands most directions like, "Close the door" "Come here" and "Turn the light on/off." I don't wanna blame the pandemic, but me and his mom were all he's had any socialization with during his first 2 years of life. He's learned so much, but communication is where we struggle. The fact that I'm on youtube for this speaks for its self😭😭😭 Its heartbreaking as a father honestly.

My son is 3 1/2 and exhibits 4/5 signs. I’m concerned and have been seeking speech therapy but everyone has costs we just can’t afford right now. He was our first child and we as first time parents could benefit from some direction
You can have him evaluated and they will do the speech therapy for free (if he qualifies) as early intervention. Then he will receive speech therapy. If he's in school like preschool or daycare you can ask to have him evaluated. Otherwise your pediatrician can send you to a speech therapist to be evaluated. Either case they drag their feet so you do have to sorta push the issue.
My son has all of these and he is 5.
I thought it was autism but the psychologist said it wasn't.
We have been to a speech therapist and she say she can't help him cause she thinks is something else than just speech delay.
So I don't get any help from anyone and I'm so stressed about him starting school.
I live in Sweden and we don't have private speech therapists or home schooling program :(

My child is 21 months old now. She is not communicating with us. She doesn't try to tell or ask for anything. When she see something like food, water, snacks she shows her interest making some excited actions. Thats all.

I'm waiting to get my son evaluated. He's 15 months and hasn't said his first word. He didn't even babble "mamama" and "bababa" until after his first birthday, and still no other consonants. Not to mention no pointing or waving or clapping.
I used her stance -- you can't just say however "go get 'that" for me' unrealistic. If you hold your hands down and say go get me your cup, or ball. My son is able to do this, parents try it that way but use a word.

Would it still be considered a speech delay if my child is really good at understanding but doesn’t talk much? Everyone believes my child is “advanced” or whatever at understanding but he doesn’t say as many things. He is 19 months and I can tell him “go get me a diaper” and he will go into another room, find the diapers, find the wipes and bring them back to me and just every day things like that like throwing things away, cleaning up toys, I say “bath time” he goes upstairs to the bath, I say “time to brush our teeth” and he will run to the bathroom, grab his stool and put it in front of the sink and grab his tooth brush. “Time to read a book” he goes into another room and grabs the book. Idk there is just so many things he understands without gesturing (and more with gesturing obviously) but he probably says like 10 words.
Hi! These are all good skills but I'd say if you are worried, definitely get an evaluation.
My grandson just turned 4 and he can talk but often decides that he doesn't want to. He also still talks a little gibberish and usually keeps his talk at a low tone. He does play with other children and wants to be around other kids. Much of his talk is in a cartoon like tone where he is imitating voices from cartoons and his father who often talks to him with cartoon like voices. He is very independent and if he wants something to drink rather then ask he just goes to the fridge and get it himself. Or he has opened up the pantry door and stated "Google, find snacks". He is a very big boy for 4 ( wears a size 8) so when people see him they expect a lot more. He never does things on command, only when he wants to. How can we get him to talk and communicate better. We are in Florida. Ant suggestions?

I have a daughter who just turned 3 in nov she can talk, but does not necessarily talk to us or make conversation with us she will say she needs to go to the potty or simple things like drink or other things she may want. She will also repeat things that you say if she feels like it, but you are not really able to ask her what she is doing or things along those lines she just won’t answer and almost acts like she doesn’t hear you (we have had her hearing checked and it is fine). she is also not very sociable some days she is more Interactive than others. She usually will not say hi or bye to people and does not make a lot of eye contact although some days she is better with this than other days, but a lot of times she will not even acknowledge other adults. She is very smart like she knows her ABCs and can also recognize them she can also count to ten and sometimes higher, very good at puzzles and other things, but it seems like she is having issues in some ways with social skills and in ways communication. I stay at home with her and she is not around children a lot of the time. She recently in the last couple months started saying mommy and daddy and although she knows her name and will repeat it she will not tell me it if I ask her. She also seems to have problems with directions a lot of time. Some family members think she may have some kind of a learning disability or even autism. I am very hesitant on accepting this, but wonder what you may think or what kind of therapy may be needed.

I feel like we wont know the impact of lockdowns on these children for a long time. My son was born dec 26 right before we went into lockdown and he has suffered. Not only because we couldn’t leave the house, but also because I was swamped helping my kindergartner with virtual school. At my sons 18 month appointment I am going to ask for 0/3 I feel like a failure 😞

I tried to talk to my son’s doctor about him not speaking hardly at all he can say dada and bye. He is 19 months old. The doctor literally told me that I was letting him point and grunt rather than trying to get him to communicate without even doing an assessment.

My daughter just squeaks like a parakeet unless she's saying "neigh neigh" for horse, mama, dada, "mmm" when she likes something she's eating, and "ooo ooo aaa" for monkey. She's 16 months old. Not sure if this is a delay I should be concerned about or not.

My son is speech delay, I’ve been trying to read to him yet he doesn’t make words. And I’m worried I’ve tried “EI” and they don’t help at all they just did an assessment and they didn’t even follow through with home visits they mentioned a speech therapist but never came trough with some either. I’m about to ask his doctor probably because no one has guided me in that direction and I’ve have had this so called services that in turn have not helped and I feel frustrated and I don’t want to do that, I’m looking for a real specialist that gives answers. My son use to say dada, bye bye and mummy but now he doesn’t really talk. Once in a while he says mummy but when asked to repeat it he just smiles. Do i need to see a speech therapist?
My son is 26 months. He hasn't had time with other children because of the pandemic the past year. We live in Costa Rica with no neighbors and he's having to learn 2 languages. He know lots of words but he just says one word at a time. He will respond to detailed requests like "get that and give it to mommy." Should he be saying sentences? So I made a mistake by watching this video and thinking "how come my kid is 18 months and not fluent in English already?". Mamas if you are watching it please don't, talk to your pediatrician instead. I was so worried that my kid says only about 10 words at 18 months then I go to my pediatrician with my crazy thoughts and he shows me the chart where it says 2-3 words at 18 months in addition to mama, dada!

Thank you for this video. My daughter just turned two. She can sing multiple songs and even quote movies perfectly, however when it comes down to communicating she isn’t good verbally. My husband and I are both mommy and she will say simple things like up please, hi, bye, bobo (our dog), Oo yummy, and some other things but isn’t good telling us what she wants. She will grab me by the hand take me to the toy or area she wants to play with and point at the object she wants me to play with her with but doesn’t verbally say what she wants. I called my pediatrician today and they are going to send a request to jhach to get evaluated. They won’t see he till may (I put her on the cancellation list too. Hopefully by then she will say a lot more. Crossing my fingers she is a late talker. She is developing in other areas more than speech, like math, building, art, has advanced motor skills, and excels in crafts cooking and more. I’m not concerned her having autism she is just delayed in verbally communicating.

My daughter does the same with taking our hands to what she wants and points at it and says please… I will then point at the item and say what it is for future reference or help her repeat it but she doesn’t at the moment.

Also i noticed that she learns anything fast n keeps repeating them whole day or for some days n then she looses interests in those words n doesn’t want to utter them again after few days. She has learnt 1-10 numbers n some alphabet but all in English language n all rhymes she has learnt in english. Surprisingly hindi is our mother tongue n we speak all the tym at our home in hindi n she doesn’t pick a word of this language

Yes I did. Told me to talk to him a LOT. Some days are great, but the other days I turn anxious and keep questioning him why is he talking to himself about the cartoons? Adventures are his fav or infact any child I suppose.
We did go through a year of speech therapy and he has definitely improved. Just need him to concentrate into things so probably he would frame better sentences. 😃 He is bilingual also and just started school. Apparently, the first time he attended, the school is online. 😅😊

My son is 2 years and 2 months. He does not talk at all, say words that is. He understands when we ask him, for a kiss, when we say thank you, and he hands us items, when we say shoes, he knows that means we're leaving or going outside. He babbles and he grunts, a lot. We're struggling because he does not know how to tell us what's wrong, so he will cry and gets frustrated. We don't know what to do. I want t help him, and even if I do repetition he doesn't seem to repeat what I say.

My son doesn’t listen to me

That’s literally my son.. he doesn’t have any interest in what I have to say or if he sees new people.. he actually doesn’t like new kids he would literally cry and when our visitors will leave he would be so happy.. he doesn’t wave or say hi and definitely doesn’t make the sounds it. He is 15 months now and I don’t know it makes me really upset. Oh and on top of that he doesn’t eat on his own and everything should be smashed like purée. He doesn’t know how to swallow anything.
23 months and id say hes closer to 50 words than 200. Trying to get a speech therapist to come see him. Realistically, can he catch up? I feel horrible.

My son definitely gets frustrated trying to communicate with me, and I think he only understands my gestures, but not what I’m saying. He says words and will string 2-4 together to form “sentences” on his own and can repeat my words and short phrases, but has trouble expressing what he wants and mostly babbles. He just turned 2 five days ago. His pediatrician recommended speech therapy yesterday at his 2 year visit.
It turns out he does understand me, he just doesn’t listen lol

Yes, though she couldn’t get a good read on his vocabulary because almost the entire appointment was a temper tantrum because he was tired, but it was a temper tantrum with almost no words. I’ll watch some more of your videos, and I think I may also get the course. Anything to help him progress.
I’ve noticed that alot of parents are unwilling to recognize their children have speech delays. I’m a children health care worker and often I see children who are 2 years old and still baby talk and when are spoke to, they have no idea how to communicate. Or they are unable to form simple sentences such as “ I’m hungry”.or “ where are you”. Simple things like that. However, when I speak to parents about it, I’m often faced with “ She talks a lot, she knows a lot.”. I understand parents may not feel happy when told that their child needs help. However, because of their ego, the children end up not getting the kind of help they need.
My 2.7 months old speaks.. I think his issue is when we ask him his feelings he doesn't express it. I ask him daily how are you? How was your day.. he doesn't answer but he repeats.. I asked for a speech therapist New Jersey stated he doesn't qualify.

My daughter will be 3 in July of 2021. She Babbles a lot. I usually know what she wants 95 percent of the time but she does get mad and frustrated when I don’t know what she wants. She actually started out with words then stopped using them. She would say puppy and a few other ones but has stopped like she is not interested anymore. Her ears are great and we have been seeing an SLP but I feel like it’s really not helping. It’s only been like a month and a half but still.

A friend’s 2 1/2 yr old only says ‘ehhhhhh’ while pointing. It is very annoying to me when I am with her. I have not heard her say anything. She also gets very upset if she is around other kids she does not know…to the point of having to leave the event.
200-300 words at 2 years old seems like a lot? My nephew is 26 months and he says maybe 6-7 words.
It can seem like a lot, if you are worried definitely talk with your child's pediatrician.

My son is two years and 4 months old, he understands most of things obeys commands, turns back when i call his name, but he speaks with him self all the time in his own language and doesnt reply to us when we ask him somethimg. What to do.
Greetings! 4 months is still pretty young, typical vocabulary expectations should be around 2-6 words by 12 months (not including mama and dada). My sister is 5 and she can only sing and say her name. She cries and points when she wants something, she hardly answers her name, she's always oblivious of her surroundings. I don't know if it's just speech delay or it's that and autism. I have being asking my dad to get her checked out and he keeps saying nothing is wrong with her, that she's just slow and would pick up.

Hi Kayla, Thank you for these informational videos. As an adult on the autism spectrum my difficulty among other things is communicating with others socially often invisible in a crowded room, ashamed to have this problem. When people ask me certain questions it takes me time to respond. Often they get upset at me for not answering right away, I have to think about the question and process it and still struggle with stuttering to make a clear answer, Anyway, do you work with adults too or is it only kids, or how do you know if a speech therapist is a right fit as an adult? Thanks. And i am hoping to get help soon through the Regional Center here in Central Cali. Ryan.
My son is 20 months old and doesn’t use many words. He says “mama”, “dada”, “yeah!”. I know they should use 50 words by 2yo. He plays with other kids, jabbers to us and other kids, and waves with excitement, but doesn’t speak clear words. I know boys are typically behind on speech than girls, but I know there should be more clear words used by now. I will definitely speak with someone to come evaluate him.

My little boy will be fifteen months tomorrow and says only two words. I’m reading him his baby books and talking to him trying to teach him new words. He is also not standing or walking on his own quite yet. He is cruising and has great fine motor skills and is where he should be in a lot of things. Just a bit later then the average. His physical therapist says we can set up an evaluation with speech therapy early, though they usually do that at closer to eighteen months, I guess.
Definitely try to get it scheduled!
How do u think is there a difference in speech development for twins?
So the kid all around the world is also using " Ah! Aaaa! As the main first word for everything 😆😆😆

My son is 17 months and doesn't speak a word. He does not respond when his name is called. He does not focus when we talk to him. Can't understand anything. Really worry about him !!

Our three year old granddaughter does not have any level of conversational speech and her parents are too busy glued to their cellphones to recognize that their is an issue.
They need to put down the phone and pay attention to her development.

This is so relatable. Soon as you said babbling my son says 3 main words, which are Dora (childminder is Laura and can't say it yet), dada and ugh (grunt). He's 18 months, and I'm in the UK and tried my health visitor for almost a year with no luck, my childminder is also helping with the referral and soon as he hit 18 months they were able to escalate it on my behalf x

Thank u so much for this informative video, i can understand now that my child is having problem talking n i need help. My child is 22 months n bable a lot lot like whole day, she says some words to be precise 11 words only in our language which is hindi but cannot communicate her needs. Surprisingly She has learnt english language rhymes (complete sentences till the end) n keeps repeating them whole day like twinkle twinkle, jony jony,etc but she don’t talk n is highly frustrated n furious all day every day, hitting me n family in face is a general ordeal of hers. And she doesn’t like to make eye contact or interact wth anyone except objects

My girl turned 14 months yesterday and she doesn’t say any words at all. I’m stressed now. She is social, interacts, if I tell her to get her dummy she will grab it, but otherwise no words yet.

My daughter is 3.2 years old, she might have a problem of speech delay, she has started repeating since 1 months back only. She repeats few things which she likes, but doesn't make sentences, or communicate with us. Her screen time was more the last year, it was a huge mistake we made and due to covid, she was not going out anywhere, but eventually we have reduced the screen time. We talk to her the whole day, but she doesn't communicate us back. We have admitted her in a playschool, which she will be going from the next month. Mam please suggest, what should we do, should we wait for some time, after she goes to playschool, or we should consult a doctor.
