The greatest thing that will save your life: COMMON SENSE. CRITICAL THINKING. LOGIC. HAVING A CONSCIOUS. Ask yourself, "CAN/MAYBE WILL I die if I do this?" if the answer is yes, then do not do that thing. Simple.

My concern about the chute: if it is used on a burning building, how does it not go up in flames itself?

Corpuls CPR still needs more work, it's a great idea, just that there are a lot of safety concerns about something like that pushing down too hard and killing the person that needs CPR
Agree. What if it malfunctioned? Not sure I would be thrilled to see a loved one treated with that device.
Regarding a tornado shelter possibly in a garage. About two years ago I saw a video on those and the only reason people were able to get out of the shelter was because a neighbor presumed they were in the shelter but they couldn’t get out because of the debris from the house collapsing on top of it.

The problem is at what cost? It’s not just a matter of hydraulics, it’s a matter of how you power the hydraulic pump. Now you have to consider battery maintenance and it needs to be checked often. I sell hydraulic equipment, I can assure you it gets to be some pretty big bucks. Not just for the equipment, but for the installation which needs access from outside and inside and that’s the next problem.
Oh I can see the snowball effect from adding them. Back up power for after the event. Maintanence of the cells over time. It would be an expensive operation to keep up. May be cheaper to have an indestructible PA system to call for help if you’re trapped inside.
I live in Oklahoma where we have record tornadoes and honestly damage is rare but when it happens it is bad. Some places haven’t been hit in over 100years

If that escape chute is anything like an aircraft's escape ramp/raft, I'm concerned you'll get scorched from the friction as you slide down it.
Notice that all the people using the chute are wearing gloves !
Thanks for the advice. I think, if I am ever in a building (or a plane) that's on fire, I will weigh up the risk issues- getting a friction burn from the chute or dying in the fire.
Listen to the crew, don’t it your hands on the slide and you won’t get friction burne

About the face mask/hood; what the heck does “Minimum 15 minutes protection” mean ?
my understanding is, based on the tests, worst case scenario, you have 15 minutes of head & respiratory protection before the system declines or fails.

Testing buildings in Earthquakes has been going on for at least 50 years. The building codes in Earthquake prone areas are a bit different.
Japan seems to have come pretty close to nailing it. 2011 lost lives mostly because of tsunami not the 9.1 earthquake.
There's a bridge in New Zealand built to be earthquake proof. Amazing engineering.

Why have a tornado shelter in the garage where the house can fall on the garage trapping the residents inside the shelter. I have seen old photos (1940s, 1950s, Kansas?) where the family ran to a shelter dug in the garden.
