True, I wish the show committed to the end instead of Netflix dragging it out. Let be somber, let it be unfair, and show all the good and bad parts of humanity when confronted with the end.
This ending of the world perfectly fits the metaphor for death and all of us having limited time we spend on distractions. The best ending is finding meaning and fulfilment in your personal community before you go.

For the first time yesterday I allowed myself to be vulnerable. When a big strong cashier offered to carry my groceries to my car for me as I held my fussy toddler I nearly hesitated. I instead chose to trust. It was just a kind simple act. I had been struggling mentally the past few days. There’s still so much good in the world. ❤
Carol was always just that little person wasn't she? That type of person to say "How your day going?", she doesn't do much, but in a way she leaves more of an impact than you expect. As for those two managers, I like how even to the end they kept up their persona of running a business, almost like they didn't even notice the world around them. in a way I think they just accepted their place already, and instead just wanted to give other people a chance to do what they prefer, instead of going out and doing everything like it's always said. Just like Carol, the most significant things sometimes, are the little things.
When I first watched this episode and it gets to the scene of the woman seemingly looking at her reflection and crying causing the whole system breakdown and the distraction to collapse. I thought it was because someone had killed themselves and it was just a stark reminder of what was to come. You can only distract yourself for so long before facing the inevitable. when it got to the ending and it's because she saw another woman cry because of the togetherness. The community, the happiness, the bonding that they were establishing in the face of annihilation it hurt. Because here I am with my explanation like oh someone probably just killed themselves. The distraction is starting to crack. But I was only half right? The distraction was starting to crack but not because of negativity but positivity and it was like getting sucker punched by the writers.
They say to help someone that you love that’s been imprisoned you should use their name to remind them that they are still human that they have meaning to someone.
1:01 Right before this scene she talks about how workers stopped seeing each other as their position and saw each other as people with names and cared about. She's so shocked when Carol calls her by her first name because she didn't think anyone really cared about her enough that her crying would've made anyone else sad.
You all do relise that Kepler (the planet heading towards them) isnt the size of a fucking city, its multiple times larger than the earth itself. The end scene showing the planet isnt showing it INSIDE the earth right above the city, its showing you that its so massive that even though its still 2-3 months away its that big already.
the melancholic yet togetherness of everyone in the office just hits really hard, to the point where i stopped dividing the characters as major or minor roles and saw _all_ of them as individual people. it felt like i went through exactly what kathleen did
Maybe one of the hardest to watch ending scenes of all time, that last scene of kepler rounded by clouds and then, the credits screen, like everithing ended in exactly that moment
I was sort of split on this ending. On one hand, I love when creatives flip concepts on their head. The motivation behind this show's entire premise is the impending apocalypse, but everything about the narrative is about what it means to be human. Carol has fulfilled her goal of finding meaning, creating community, and how she wants to live. There's not really much more story to tell here. Keppler really doesn't matter anymore. If they did a second season, I don't know what else they could do without milking it. But, I also wanted to see how it ends. The entire runtime of 10 episodes teases you with how close the impact is, and I was hoping to see some 'Don't Look Up'-esque emotional payoff. There were still 3 months left and I wanted to see more of this world they created. But I guess that's the point, life isn't fair and endings can be abrupt. I'm still happy I checked it out. I binged all 10 episodes in a row.
I hope this show ends with the song "World caves in" by Matt Maltese. Not the Girl version the original sounds way better emotionally. Though if the world ends up not ending that's cool too.

Wait I don't understand, she had an emotional breakdown and triggered the group breakdown. Then, she intentionally erased that fact and acted as if she had to conduct an experiment to find out the cause?
She needed to really think about why anyone would cry over seeing her get emotional. Before the happy hours she would've figured no one cared, everyone just wanted a distraction, and the world would pass her by. Then she realized people do care, like Carol calling her by her name and people inviting her during Applebee's time. So she realized that she was valued, and when she realized that she figured out she 'caused' the incident to begin with. Not that she erased it on purpose, but that she didn't realize she was a factor to begin with
How come we got Kathleen's story but that guy who actually instigated The Distraction (the one who was originally in the office and stayed, and got flustered over the unresolved 38 cents) and the Managers didn't get any story, I didn't really understand that choice. I also don't really get the very last bit, it's Kathleen remembering random Carol moments and then the world ends. It feels anticlimactic not just because it's months before impact, but it feels like a weird editing choice to me.
Even if they decided to just take as many as possible to space the impact of the two planets would obliterate everything miles upon miles upon miles away and even if they were far away enough to survive that somehow they would still be yanked in from the implosion then their corpses would be erased from the explosion of excess matter.
im pretty sure it would be *really* hard to make a spaceship that could carry even a fraction of humanity to another planet in the timespan of seven months.
I like how there's no actual good ending where the planet gets saved, it's really just living out till the end of the world
