    I would just like to say as someone involved in the medical field in a clerical role, and with a background in radiology.
    Perhaps it is something for the AFLPA and the AFL itself to sit down and discuss, regarding medical imaging being available at venues.
    This is something the NFL has had in place since 2015, and was implemented via their collective agreement, where the NFL agreed to invest more in player healthcare. This includes at a mininum, x-ray scanners, and up to MRI scanners in select venues.
    We are laughably behind best practice.

    I like how we can now see the thought process behind player selection

    Sounds like opposition players had greater duty of care than Melbourne club doctors and bench personnel

    Grade 5 laceration is the most severe short of losing it entirely. He needed to be protected from himself. I understand that it was a calculated risk, but boy do I hope we take learnings from this.

      There is no excuse for him not being sent to hospital straight away. You are right he needed to be protected from himself, which is the club doctor’s job. Only 2 scenarios I can see for how this happened. Either the doctor ran the tests and assessed but is borderline incompetent and missed all the warning signs. Or the doctor did not run any tests more than just asking Petracca how he felt and if he wanted to play on. Either one should result in a new doctor.

      How about just erring on the side of safety next time? Severe pain is suggestive of severe injury, getting him back on the field should be 99th on their list of priorities.

  • @amunt3r

    Who cares about a balanced team? They don't actually play any games. It should be best midfielders, best forwards, best defenders, best rucks. Full stop.

    • @JGFormentin
      @JGFormentin 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      That's what he means by balanced team 😂 he's saying don't just fill HF and HB with midfielders like they used to.

      Well, it could also be based upon who are the best players... well all know the best players are the ones in the middle. A middle player will generally beat a forward or back if they changed positions.

    • @amunt3r
      @amunt3r 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @JGFormentin - no, he specifically said he wanted a balance of all roles... I disagree. If you pick six fullbacks and six full-forwards, that's fine with me, as long as they are the best players for 2024. 😅

    Man the AA selection is crazy with the biase's they have. Jeremy Cameron is a perfect example, he has played 2 good games 1 being against north. Tom Stewert has also not been very good this year yet is in their midseason conversation. Fritsch has been bad, Mihocek has played barely any footy and its been mid, Pendles hasn't played much and has been okay, Rozee hasnt played much and was good but not standout, ect.... You get the idea. All of these players somehow made it in over Treloar, the most consistent player of the year. Toby Greene has been mid, Tom Green has gone missing the last 6 weeks. Or was all this just who they were marking for or againts and all ended up in the 76 they talked about? How tf was Treloar not in there or is he just a lock atm. They'll probably still find a way to get Tom Stewart in their over Andrews like last year lol If they want this to actually be taken seriously, they need to have non media people do it.

    This absolute nonsense about all club doctors having the best interests of the players is laughable every time i hear it. There are certain clubs - Port is one - whose players are secondary to the mission of winning the game. Theres just been way too much evidence that confirms this opinion. The AFL are also to blame. They have failed time and again to implement procedures that protect players unless theyve got legal action looming, and then they correct.
    Why do other contact sports have medical imaging atbthe venue and the billion dollar sport of AFL doesn't?

      Yeah, Drs are sacrosanct, it's a class* thing, you can't say anything against the Drs without a backlash. The Drs are club first, team second, player's at best third if you are a star player. Though, Melbourne was prepared to risk Christian Petracca because Melbourne's season was on the line. So, club first, Christian Petracca second the other day because of Melbourne's poor ladder position. Of course, a load of people will disagree with me, but it's just so obvious over the years that players in the main are expendable.
      *Medical Drs have been held by society as elite members of society for centuries, and often beyond criticism. One of the reasons we fail to hold Drs to account the way we should, even though they make quite a few mistakes, is the system would fall down if we could prosecute them for everything we should. It would also produce a watershed in the court system we could not deal with. So many Drs should not even be practicing medicine, but the system allows them to flourish, because if we allow them to be prosecuted and struck off who would we have left, well definitely not enough Drs to go around, which we don't have now.

    None of the WB players should aspire to be All Australian as Bevo dropsplayers from the team if they play well. The latest victim is Riley Garcia: over 20 possessions a game, 5 goal assists, lots of tackles and high efficacy in defense and BAM! He is replaced with an incompetent rookie. Caleb Poulter and Oskar Baker were also victims. When Bevo placed turn-over specialist Harvey Gallagher on Nick Daicos, the coach identified himself as unqualified.

    Maynard calling himself a good bloke doesn't make him a good bloke. He snipes players extremely often, plays with an "edge" that usually ends up with a player left behind in pain.

      This is blatantly incorrect. Name the number of times he has been sent to the tribunal for rough conduct and been found guilty? If you dislike the bloke that's fair enough but if you don't know him on a personal level you have no known way to quantify his character as good or bad besides what you see for 1 hour a week on a TV screen.

    Maynard should be in jail for assault for what he did to Brayshaw. Instead he got protection from the AFL so he could play in a ‘fairytale’ premiership.
