Damn this video really hit home for me. Years ago, when I was 15, I showed up to Sacramento for my first K&N Pro race, it was discovered that my sponsor, Mercury insurance, hadn't paid a single dime to me, my dad or my team to fund the race and I ended up getting completely subpar terrible equipment, failed to qualify for the race as a result and Mercury Insurance completely disapeared and never returned me or my teams calls and my poor dad had to pay the team out of pocket for the money they used to just get the car and team to the track, which was around $250k and my family isn't super wealthy so it ended up completely ruining my entire racing career and stopped me dead in my tracks. I became the youngest ever USAC Ford Focus driver with a 2nd place championship finish and multiple wins in my first year, youngest ever USAC 360 Sprint driver with rookie of the year and youngest ever NASCAR Late Model driver with another rookie of the year. Then after the K&N race at Sacramento, my dad and I were left with no main sponsor for NASCAR and had to spend a huge chunk of the yearly sprint car funds just to pay for the one K&N Pro race and could barely keep running USAC 360 Sprint the rest of the year and had to retire as soon as the season finished. It still breaks my heart to this day, over 7 years later and I wish so badly I could go back to racing.

Depends. Under normal circumstances, Charlotte is very strict due to limited space in the Media Center and the fact that it's the center of the NASCAR universe. The other SMI tracks, maybe not so much, but I'm not sure.
Little correction: Unanimous SCOTUS rulings are not rare at all. In fact, they're quite common. It's just that those unanimous rulings are usually about uninteresting and uncontroversial cases that get no media attention at all. The SCOTUS cases that get a whole lot of attention are the ones that are highly contentious and thus split even legal experts, hence we have this perception that the Court is usually divided.
I want to say the most recent unanimous SC ruling that actually drew a lot of attention (and I could be wrong in this, but yes, 9-0 rulings are generally neither interesting nor notable) was Loving v Virginia in 1967, where the Court ruled 9-0 that Virginia's (and similarly all other states') laws against interracial marriage could not stand due to the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution (at the time, every state that had legal slavery before the Civil War, besides Maryland, had such laws on their books, in addition to Oklahoma).

Stacy was BOOM gone because the money was gone, which BTW was not his money. He had bilked the Dutch government out of upwards of $12 million. He contracted to market a thin seam coal mining machine, but spent the money on race car sponsorships and team ownerships. He left poor Morgan Sheppard rideless, but did not have the decency to tell him, having someone else take Morgan's calls, stringing him along so by the time Morgan realized the truth, there were no rides to be had. I know because I was the one who took most of the calls, and finally could tell him he was stranded as Stacy had by now pulled a disappearing act so well done that I have never heard what happened to him. With as many people as he owed millions to looking for him, I figure he probably is in one of the concrete grandstands at Bristol, since one he owed was Bruton Smith. Stacy had gotten this grandiose idea of becoming the NASCAR of Dirt Track racing, and had leased the 3/8 mile Kingsport Speedway in Kingsport, TN. It had a small problem for being the Flagship Track for Raceland Motor Sports (RMS) his name for the organization, the track was paved. So lots of money was spent by the general contractor turning the facility into a dirt track with all sorts of new buildings. Several subcontractors were involved, and almost all never got paid. Stacy had a shyster's smooth delivery that had them all waiting until the racing started to be paid. He was the best con man I have ever seen or heard of. He also had lease options at tracks in Florence, SC, Cale Yarbrough's brother to manage it, Wytheville, Va , and one in North Carolina that I forget the name of. As far as I know there was one or two races at Florence and one in Wytheville. Kingsport had several, and was pulling in some money, but after a race, a black Cadillac with mean looking black suited men paid us a visit. They left carrying a couple canvas bags. Stacy disappeared a couple days later.
If a part 3 ever comes out, I think Big Daddy’s BBQ Sauce would be a good one to explore. They sponsored the track in South Boston, and were supposed to sponsor Larry Hedrick’s team in ‘98 (?) and Junie Donlavey’s team in ‘99 but both deals fell through.

A really interesting series, and the media angle at the end was a surprising twist. Unfortunately, it's dog-eat-dog in the media center, and social media hasn't helped. Hopefully that will improve with time. Since Mark Martin's your guy, kind of surprised Bobby Ginn hasn't made an appearance in this series yet.
Absolutely fantastic video! always enjoy stuff like this and you present all the information in a entertaining way. Much appreciated on the time you take to make these gems!!
Yeah the biggest thing I learned from this video after years of deep intellectual thought and philosophical exploration, studying how the universe works, and a lot of faith to get me through it, is that yes, Mark Martin was actually young at some point...kind of.
Wow, I didn't expect a part 2 of this! I really enjoyed the first one, so this one should be great as well! Edit: Only watched half the video and it's already better! Great job S1ap! Holy Crap I got in the video
Coming from a late model racing family we pulled the plug on NooseCar, the hyped up garage door pulls and watching drivers that could not breathe was a turn off.
I haven’t watched or even followed NASCAR since they broke up the races into stages. After watch a few of your videos (by few I mean almost all) it made me remember all the memories I have of sitting down with my dad and watching Dale Jr win and him yelling about Jeff Gordon. Please keep doing what and your doing.

Hey, S1ap, I just stumbled upon your Nascar videos recently. Despite never having watched a full race, your videos are quite fun to watch and I even subscribed. I just wanted to ask if you would ever do another video like this on Prince Malik (a literal Nigerian prince) scamming a Nascar racer in 2005 with his own sponsorship or have him included in another video like this. Keep up the good work, love the content!
"...and I'm sorry you had to watch this." ....na slapshoes, this was great! The masses must know what goes on behind these close doors. Thanks for putting up this kind of content! Give another view on how world is run by not just in nascar...thanks!
I don’t watch nascar and have never been a fan. A good friend of mind is a phenomenal modified dirt track racer and always tried getting me Into it when I was younger and it never stuck. I’ll go to the local dirt track races maybe once every couple years but that is the extent of it. I have no knowledge on nascar but man I can’t stop watching your videos. Even though I’m not a fan of watching the sport I’m a huge history buff and your videos are extremely in depth and well made. Even though I’m not a fan of the sport I’m a huge fan of these videos. Keep it up S1apSh0es!
I have no idea why I was recommended your videos, but I love them. I've never watched NASCAR and likely never will watch a full race, but damn I love hearing about the history of motorsports! Your videos have just been getting better and better over the last few months since I saw your forgotten racetracks video.
You have a real gift for putting together narratives that deliver the perfect mix of scandal, drama, and history. Honestly, you could research and produce content about the Dewey Decimal System and I'd watch it.
I love that you used Ohsweken Speedway as the dirt track clip, I knew I recognized those Mini stocks. It’s a local dirt track near me in Ontario Canada
I love that you took an unexpected turn into not just team owners, sponsors, and drivers but the MEDIA, plus fans??!?! I seriously appreciate that sudden depth. The seeming echo chamber and very vanilla, pedestrian opinions; mostly of television commentators; has rubbed me the wrong way for a while, though it could just be personal bias and taste butting heads against some aspects of the media. In these cases it has more to do with the Internet/social media side, and useless in-fighting with each other about who's who and who's got guts, not controversial opinions about the sport necessarily, other than indirectly with Brian France.
JD Stacy first arrived in 1977 when he bought out Harry Hyde’s Dodge and with Neil Bonnett won twice in 1977. Stacy started shafted Hyde in 1978 then filed multiple lawsuits to force Hyde to surrender his shops to Stacy. Stacy fled when a bomb was found in his car.
I can’t think of a time I don’t smile from ear to ear while watching a Slap video. Congratulations on another amazing video slap, thank you for all you do for the amazing content :))
As always great historical content. Knowing that about Jr's brother whatever he's fighting now with his name thing serves him right, he could've handled that so much better and probably kept the sponsor and teams happy and possibly gotten a ride with at least a small cup team, but the world will never know.
Destined to be a s1ap classic...man so much shady business in NASCAR and the thing is, this could use another chapter in this series. All the media meltdown drama at Las Vegas is still very fresh and highlights the gatekeeping established print and television NASCAR media do to “alternative/new/internet” media.
Finally, someone detailed the Las Vegas media meltdown. I had no idea what was going on, other than everyone being mad at TH-camrs getting media credentials, everyone being mad at Jim Utter, & Barstool getting involved. That whole ordeal was pure insanity. I do feel bad for Lombard tho, that must really suck to learn that your employer is a fraud and get blamed for it
Unfortunately these days you have to be careful on who you associate with. It's a damn shame that it happened to me but thankfully I'm out of it and doing better focusing on my own growth. They're gone and away from me now while I'm still going. Live and learn for sure.
I worked with Bar Stool for a lil event we did together. Basically, we hosted the event and barstool had a couple of folks show up to film, add personality, whatnot. Their fans are some of the most absolutely toxic people on the internet. I've never seen such a terrible comment section on a youtube video. The fans were making sexual remarks about every woman who appeared on screen. Every aspect of someone's physical appearance they could insult they did. At one point the live chat just became them chanting a bunch of sexist stuff. Their admin staff were all fine with it. About halfway through the event I quit working and decided to just have a good time while ignoring the production of it. I'll never work with barstool again. I've heard similar things from my other friends/contacts in the sports industry. Basically, don't let barstool be at any of your events because their fanbase is extremely toxic. Any event that barstool is a part of will push away every demographic that isn't "10-20 yr old white kid who may or may not be a nazi". No joke, you'll lose more fans than you'll gain from them because their fans are blips in your radar, at the sacrifice of every other fan you could be acquiring.
@@-BigMike- Honestly, i have no idea how anyone can stand Moody. About pissed my pants when you jabbed at utter with the towtruck photoshop lmfao
2:02 Hold up. Was that yeller car a dadgum Beetle?!
Saving it for part 3 maybe?
He'll have his day . . .
Epic foreshadowing.
I’m loving the emplemon-style editing and the Internet Historian jokes in this vid lmao
Dude.
We need to admit it.
That fake new about Mark Martin replacing Ryan... *everyone wanted it to be real news* .
I know, I'm glad I didn't hear about it or read anything regarding that, so I wouldn't have my hopes built up for nothing,
If anyone’s ever seen Black Flags Matters interviews on his channel, they’d know that he’s very proffesional with his interviews
The whole Buddha thing is just pure gold tbh.

Absolutely fantastic video! always enjoy stuff like this and you present all the information in a entertaining way. Much appreciated on the time you take to make these gems!!
Mark Martin was born with crow’s feet apparently
Shit. Ask God who Mark Martin is and his response is “I don’t know. He was here when I got here”
@@OrangeSmoky *snerk*
Yeah the biggest thing I learned from this video after years of deep intellectual thought and philosophical exploration, studying how the universe works, and a lot of faith to get me through it, is that yes, Mark Martin was actually young at some point...kind of.
Not going to lie. Hearing NASCAR Media and "Professional" in the same sentence is hilarious.
I'm just gonna assume who ever made that "Includes Paid Promotion" possible, actually paid you, and not have your check bounce
And now Joseph Lombard is a disgrace.
Dude that one part about assuming employers are all thieving bastards had me rollin
They lost me yesterday and i have been watching NASCAR since the wide world of sports era and I am done with the rule changes every week and the pandering i seen yesterday was the final straw
What pandering? Aren’t you just being petulant?
Hey, S1ap, I just stumbled upon your Nascar videos recently. Despite never having watched a full race, your videos are quite fun to watch and I even subscribed. I just wanted to ask if you would ever do another video like this on Prince Malik (a literal Nigerian prince) scamming a Nascar racer in 2005 with his own sponsorship or have him included in another video like this. Keep up the good work, love the content!
Joey's reaction was priceless
It makes me happy to see joseph Lombard duped...
12:06 love the internet historian reference my guy
“Oh Shit! That’s MY CAR!!!”
That was hilarious
"...and I'm sorry you had to watch this." ....na slapshoes, this was great! The masses must know what goes on behind these close doors. Thanks for putting up this kind of content! Give another view on how world is run by not just in nascar...thanks!
Great video man. I don't really go for watching racing, but I absolutely love this series about bad actors in the sport.
Dude, you just keep cranking these things out tighter n tighter & at a consistently higher quality... ¡Way to make quarantine bearable sir!🤘
I have no idea why I was recommended your videos, but I love them. I've never watched NASCAR and likely never will watch a full race, but damn I love hearing about the history of motorsports! Your videos have just been getting better and better over the last few months since I saw your forgotten racetracks video.
Learning so much about this motorsport through your videos. Thank you for all the effort you put into them.
15:43 one of the best Sponsor promos I ever seen in a video, i was dying from laughter
I love Joey’s reaction when the reporter asked that question 😂
Digging the VAPORWAVE AESTHETICS りマ為 at the end.
Damn. Hyde wasnt messing around.
I loved that clip of Ohsweken Speedway at the start... that's my home track.. great facility!
"Let's get into horrible sponsors, this video is sponsored by Raid shadow legends"
You got me, subbed.
11:21 Maybe people should’ve looked into Joe Lombard more
Destined to be a s1ap classic...man so much shady business in NASCAR and the thing is, this could use another chapter in this series. All the media meltdown drama at Las Vegas is still very fresh and highlights the gatekeeping established print and television NASCAR media do to “alternative/new/internet” media.
LOL the Lombard story is so much worse now.
That commercial was great! Well done.
I would of paid money to see Tony Stewart answer the question they asked logano
I bet you would love to of some money. I want to of money too. Ofing money is great, then you spend it on seeing and ofing other things.
You talking about Stacy putting his name everywhere and not paying anyone and I thought "Hmm...reminds me of..." and then you showed it LOL.
4:42 I knew what you were going to say, then decided that a nascar channel would never say that, then you said it.
Nice touch with the Rollins band intro
No Natures Bakery? I was hoping you’d talk about that mess with SHR and Danica
It was in the first episode
Last combination I would ever expect is a mini NASCAR documentary and a Luther Vandross club mix as background music
I'm not gonna park in Jim utters parking spot IM GONNA RAM INTO HIS PARKING SPORT WITH A MONSTER TRUCK
Thanks S1apsh0es for filling me in on present and past huksters of NASCAR. The content is awesome and entertaining. Keep up the great work.
So, there's a new Drunk Brian France account on twitter. I love it already.
Man how do you not have more videos on your channel this is so well researched
so you’re telling me Jim Utter had 2021 Daytona 500 champ Michael McDowell’s car towed????
Raid got me. I immediately hit fwd 10 sec and missed the joke.
Nice work Slap
If we’re going over shady media members can we include Jim Utter and Dave Moody?
Utter was mentioned and Moody? Well... If there's a part 3, I wouldn't be surprised if Moody was included.
I can't stand Moody.
@@-BigMike- Honestly, i have no idea how anyone can stand Moody. I think what *really* tips the scale against Moody are 1) how he reacted to the fan reaction at Martinsville 2015 and 2) how he handled talking to our fellow NASCAR community member DannyBTalks when he (DannyB) called into his (Moody) Sirius XM show.
@@Alan_M00ch WHERE CAN I FIND THAT? I didn't hear about it.
