Finally got time to sit down and watch this, great stuff Cliff I was thinking about through hiking this in the fall but idk if I’ll have the time. The section I did a year ago was extremely rough outside of Greenwood furnace so I’m sure it doesn’t get much easier, anyways I’m looking forward to seeing more of the trail buddy stay safe out there and I’ll cya soon
Definitely need to check this place out. We were close to the 1000 steps recently, that's a goal for us. Fannettburg Inn in Fulton County was great. Cheers
I am awestruck at you determination to keep hiking. Love, Love, Love that baby salamander. Do you like hiking the ridges because of all the rocks? So this hike was rough.
Great hike and awesome section of trail! Even with the rocks. Love the diversity of it. Trail needs a bit of maintenance but most trails look like that in early spring, new spring growth makes them all a tad overgrown. You need some quick dry/moisture wicking hiking pants, that wet denim has got to be heavy. And a trekking pole wouldn't hurt in some sections. Oh wow! That tree at 38:12!
Gov. Gifford Pinchot, America's first professional forester was governor in the '30's, he had a goal for every citizen of PA to be within 25 miles of a state park forest land. When he left office, he was about 95% complete. I think PA is something like the 9th most rural state in the US.
Arkansas and PA are both hiker's dream states, though both are a bit rocky. Colorado as well but it has more bears and the elevation can be a bit problematic.
I am really enjoying your channel and hikes. In fact yesterday I went to Memorial Lake after viewing your video. What a lovely place and so quiet and peaceful. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
What a great hike! Too bad the fog hid some of those vistas and made the rocks difficult. Isn't it so nice to see your vehicle waiting for you?! You should sleep well in camp after that hike. Thanks!!
I would never choose a road walk over a trail. There's nothing that I dislike more than hiking on a road. I was impressed by that ridgewalk! Great terrain!
ever think to do the AT or PCT? i so wanna do one of those in the next few years but just seems so very challenging and very time consuming. love your videos...
My home trail! I just completed Cowan’s Gap to the unofficial halfway point in Mapleton a few weeks ago. I did this the section in this video in the pouring rain. 17-ish miles to camp. I maintain a small 3 mile section north of Rte 655. Just an FYI if you haven’t completed section 7 of the SST yet, there is major logging and quarry work currently taking place. The trail is a total mess. Looking forward to future vids!
I really like the SST, we’ve really enjoyed every section of it that we’ve been on. There’s some incredible scenery along the way, I’ll definitely be watching this series! Cowans Gap is a nice state park, but gets crowded in the summer. Beautiful area though. Thanks for sharing!
If you ever want to do the whole Mason-Dixon trail let me know. I even have a way across the river. Done it twice now end to end. I was a MDTS volunteer 15 years back. Did it then, and I'll admit I stealth camped with my 4 season hammock
Those rocky sections remind me of parts of the AT in PA. Also, as I recall the northern end of the SST is at a junction with the MidState Trail I think.
Hey.. can you please give your viewers a short list of what you always carry in your backpack…for us newbies! I am recently retired and want to explore Pennsylvania trails…but not sure how to start.
Hey Cliff, they (DCNR) are doing some work back at the old Six Penny/Dyers Quarry in FCSP. Rumors I’m hearing is they may open a section up for hiking but have not confirmed it with DCNR. That be cool if they open that section up.

Cool thanks for sharing but be careful rocks slippery when wet

I am just amazed that Pennsylvania has so many trails!!! I am for sure jealous.

May No Large or medium Animals ideal for them ?👋
What a fantastic trail, those rocks were a worry tho. The views were really lovely. Thanks for taking me along. Please take care
As a disabled guy, thank you for taking me to a place I could never see. I’m not sure if I could have done that trail before disability!

Memorial Lake is special; I've spent many, many hours there over the years.
What a great hike! Too bad the fog hid some of those vistas and made the rocks difficult. Isn't it so nice to see your vehicle waiting for you?! You should sleep well in camp after that hike. Thanks!!
Great job, Cliff! You are a trooper! I bet that first overlook has a great view!
Seemed like a challenging trail, great video as always ty Steve On To The Next YES 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Omg that rocky part of your hike was very scary. Those orange salamanders were very neat to see. Be safe

I was impressed by that ridgewalk! Great terrain!
I thru-hiked the SST southbound at the end of March. Good times.

Very cool trail-a bit too rugged and too much poison ivy for me-thanks for the awesome hike!

Wow, Cliff, my hat off to you for that one. Wet or dry I couldn't do those rocks. It was scary just watching you do it.
I like when you find stuff along the way❤.👍
What a beautiful state park !
So beautiful !
Beautiful Nature There bit isolated But. Well Done
Thanks Highlighter 👋
Great hike.
You do the work, I enjoy the walk! Thanks!

Always watch your step when crossing over or near rocks so you twist your ankle if u fall.
I wish there was a Purple Lizard map for the eastern part of PA.
The eastern part is on this map as well.
@@thewanderingwoodsman7227 Thanks for that; I did not know that. Now I can order one!
It's an easy trail. Yes 84.9 miles. Nothing you can't do after the horseshoe trail!

The native Americans said the ancient ones put the standing stone there ,then they took it with them after treaty with white men

Last year I hiked from Cowans Gap to Rt522 on the Standing Stone Trail, not bad, was hard to follow at some points.
