As a four of five year old I knocked over a small obelisk headstone. I remember being scolded. Never gave it a thought until I grew up and thought about what I did. I feel bad now. Knowing what stones look like now and what I can remember, I'm thinking it was probably dated from the 1890. I wish I could take it back now.
Interesting way to preserve those stones. Thanks for fixing the flags. Possible that cluster of stones are a family plot?
Those are people's ancestors, as well as veterans, who fought for our freedom, how dare they do that!
My son planted all those PVC veteran flag holders back in 2013 as part of his Eagle Scout project for Berks Association for Graveyard Preservation. It was fun to see that they are still serving their purpose...before their placement freeze thaw patterns pushed the flags out onto the ground. Now it seems heavy winds are breaking them off at the top of the pipe. Thanks for showing reverence where it is deserved.
So much history in cemeteries. Such a shame they were disrespected
I grew up walking past there to go to school. An old woman lived in the house at the beginning of the lane. We thought she was a witch! She would yell at us in a some other language ha
Some tombstones along with a very old mausoleum from the 1800s in my hometown (in Berks Co, same as West Reading) was vandalized in 1990. My mom and I discovered it on a walk. The doors were ripped off and parts from the grave were on the ground. I was maybe 14 at the time and was horrified. We reported it to the police and the mausoleum was later sealed off permanently with cement. I could never understand why someone would do that.
What a terrible shame. People are mentally devoid. It was still very beautiful. Thanks for taking me along. Please take care
Every single one of those graves has someone buried that has a story to tell. Reminds us that all have a very short time on this earth.
Props to you for fixing the flags! R.I.P. to the cemetery residents. 😢
Sounds like the caretakers need to invest in some trailcams
I’m enjoying all your videos, Bigfoot, history, nature, hiking, everything I love. It’s a shame what they did to the cemetery, it’s such a lack of respect for the dead and for history. Keep on hiking! I love it👍👍❤️❤️
it is a shame that people have to destroy stuff, i know the old cemetery , ( from the late 1700's ) where i grew up at has probably 20 or so heads stones just piled up along the fence
The vandals responsible are now senior citizens or dead. The same group of folks who say things like " kids these days! we didn't do things like that back when I was young"
I work in cemetery when I first started my lawn care business. That’s happened to us and we catch the people who did it’s. They got 5 years of probation.
Septimus🤔 Don't know if I ever heard that name before 👍
Ya think they were born in September?
Septimus means seventh in Latin.
@iluvmusicals21 seventh son maybe?
Asude from the history, it's plain ol respecting the dead. Those ppl were some ones brother, sister, mom, dad, grandma or grandpa. Seriously who raised you!
That's a cool cemetery.
Cool
That dead tree was awesome weird. The guy died in 1807 yet was in the war of 1812. Id like to see that. Those Ringer guys wonder if they were brothers, father and sons, cousins? That would be interesting to find out. I love these cemeterys and try to figure what happened to people. Loven this and can't wait for more. Be safe❤❤❤❤❤
@19:27 the Reading Hospital. Wonder what the "residents" of the cemetery would have thought of the hustle and bustle of West Reading nowadays.
The building that the helicopter was at is The Reading Hospital
Oh....." how high does the sycamore grow? If you cut it down you will never know." Just had to break into song there. 😊
Love the stone fence and gate. I’ll never, never understand why someone would vandalize a cemetery, especially a historical one. If they catch the culprits they should have do a public apology and spend at least a year on work duty taking care of the cemetery. Thanks.
Wow, what kind of sick people do such things in cemeteries? Unfortunately, when gravestones are laid flat like that, they weather faster than when left standing, and become harder to read.
It is a shame that some such disrespect for the people buried there and the disregard for history.
Technically speaking I’m pretty sure that cemetery is in the City of Reading and not West Reading. I’m pretty sure West Reading stops at the playground. The hospital is West Reading and the museum is City of Reading.
iT Ya it makes ya wander what is the point of having a tombstone
