Would have loved if they'd splashed out the same way Ticket to Ride's anniversary edition was, and given us a piece of art. This doesn't feel so much like an anniversary, as it does a mere Second Edition..
Hello, thank you for the video. Are there any new game mechanics? Is there a mode for the game in the summer and after passing the winter test? Or at the beginning I just choose summer or winter and play a single game?
I really hate that the original expansion isn't incorporated into one of the boards, because I really hate having that small extra boards on top of the main board, but I like that expansion. I just wish they could offer a board that merged the two into one board...
Thanks for pulling up this video. I have to admit that this anniversary edition would have been a no brainer if they had included the expansion. I will only play stone age with it and not worth trading mine away with the incertitude of the expansion being sold afterwards. Plus, when you had the mini promos and the mammoth expansion it's too much to just give away for just a winter sided board. I do like the art and those little modifications to the base game. Shame they didn't bring out the whole content.
Wow-I’m utterly surprised the expansion isn’t in the new anniversary edition. I have to say that Stone Age is absolutely one of my all time favorite gateway games to worker placements, but I’d be lying if I said I was a bit disappointed-aside from the lack of expansions-I’m generally not a fan of meeples with that black art on it...sometimes I’m ok with colorful stickers, but this reminds me of that ugly art they had on the new edition of coliseum’s Meeples. I absolutely love the alt art winter board, but what’s wrong with just plain cut Meeples? I like cool shapes like in Dinosaur Island, but the 2d black art on the Meeples just doesn’t ever look right to me....maybe that’s just me. Ultimately, this will akways be a cherished game to me-It’s weird I don’t have a copy. Maybe with the new edition out, I’ll see if someone is selling their original base game cheep on BGG....And if I want to play a slightly more involved Stone Age, I’ll play Neta-Tanka, which IMO is like stone age 2.0 (although it hasn’t delivered yet). Thanks for the video!
@@mauriceoksman8594 I have to agree with you. I am not a fan of those stickers and prefer the solo meeples. I also disliked the new colisseum edition artwork and much prefer the older one. I woudl totally sell you my stone age game with the expansion becasue I love the artwork for the winter if I knew they would release a double sided board for the expansion in the future :) so I gues I can't :)
Agreed. They dropped the ball by not including the 5 player expansion. Would have been a no-brainer if they had. Since they didn't though (and I already own and love the original) hard pass. Poorly done.
@@MrNikoms I wouldnt' say poorly because we have to admit that the board and components (except the meeples for me) are beautiful. But the expansion adds so much to that game that I wouldn't play without and it would bother me to play with the winter board with the expansion having different art. I wish Z-man would address if they are ever planning on releasing the updated expansion with the winter art. Then, they would have my interest.
Love Stone Age. Took me a year to find and secure my copy about a year ago. I am happy with it. Happy more people will be able to get it in this Anniversary Edition
Great review. I’ll be keeping the original but will encourage others in our group to get the new version, especially those families with older children and/or more experienced gamers.
Thanks for this comparison video. I had seen the pre-order at my FLGS's website. I really do like Stone Age, but I own the original and expansion, and there doesn't seem enough new here to justify a purchase. Looks like one could easily house-rule the stone and gold bonus points, although I'm not sure it's needed.
I have the original, but I really like the winter side of the board, hmmm, not sure if it's worth to replace it and sell my original. Thanks for showing this.
Great Run down MVM...awesome work. Definitely interested...although might be a bit to simple for me. As far as Dice Mitigation I can't really justify the purchase after owning Troyes with it's expansion...that game is just to good. And it really isn't my groups preferred kind of game\mechanic.
Love Stone Age but never purchased it because it was always too difficult to find. I almost purchased it and then heard about this anniversary edition so I waited to preorder. Now I’m just waiting for release!
thought the exact same thing when I found out that it didnt come with the expansion. Since the expansion is out of print and impossible to find I would have picked this up in a second. Now its a wait and see
Without the expansion I just can't see myself playing it, but I do like the changes making stone and gold more valuable. Maybe I put the expansion on there and use the new board and mini expansions.
imho grab anniversary edition just bcuase u get extra stuff when players feel that is time to spice up the game, also the art actually is nice except the meeple silk screen parts looks a bit terrible for me
No, no, no.... The Anniversary collection was meant to have everything inside, expansion included, a much larger map and lots of new features. As it is, it is a steal. Meeples are REALLY ugly. Slightly poorer components too, putting them side by side ( even the dice are lighter ) . The full box weighs a lot less that the original one ( at least the Italian edition ) . Not fair. I bought both the original one, than the expansion and now the anniversary edition expecting an improvement ( they even said that the expansion mini extra map ( the one with the bones ) would be incorporated into the main map, and it didn't happen ) and I feel insulted. Certainly not worthy of " anniversary edition " title. I'll keep the old one and happily sell the new.
One of our favorites. I like the threat of the wild animals but past that the other additions for winter edition are lackluster from a high level. #MVM12Days
Man this anniversary edition looks very nice! I like the different variants that it adds which so many other anniversary editions to games do not do. #MvM12Days
There are not really any strengths vs weaknesses minus the exclusion of 'Style is the Goal' which was mentioned in the video. If you have the original base game, then the anniversary edition has that included in it - so the new edition is really about what extra stuff you are getting. You get the original base game in addition to the new tiles, Meeples, and winter variant sides of the board that were detailed in the video. Obviously if you are new to Stone Age, buy this version!
This is pretty much the video but to list it as strengths vs weaknesses: Anniversary strengths: - Has nice little gameplay extra's (Double sided buildings, Iglos and Animal cards), the double sided buildings being the more important extra (making stone more valuable) for returning players. - Better aesthetics (the food tokens are cut out in shape, meeples are stylized) Anniversary weaknesses: - The only and only weakness, it does not include the expansion, which in turn means that if you do want (or have) it and play with it, the style doesn't really hold up if you add the anniversary winter extra's (you could still use the buildings and such.. but thematically it would break a bit). If they included the expansion as a 'winter edition', it would've been the perfect anniversary edition. Owning the original and expansion I don't think the extra's are worth it to buy the game again, maybe I'll sell the basegame and purchase the anniversary version. But if you're new to it I would get the anniversary version for sure, it simply has more options and is slightly improved aesthetically.
Benjamin Nicholson rofl! Only a true Stone Age fan would know that and I checked the exact same thing when I opened this. The answer is no! It’s smells much better than the original!
This looks so sweet, I am going to get it, 😍😍 hope to see a similar redo/up of the expansion 😆😆 Does the silkscreen on the meeple affect or is it jyst art? #MVM12DAYS
those new changes seem interesting...like stimulating players to focus more on stone and bonuses with gold...so that players are not just immediately aiming for the wood. However, not having the expansion is just the main reason why I wouldn't buy this. Base stone age gets too cutthroat for my taste (especially in 2p games) with constantly just blocking players to either get a hut they know opponent will buy or just aiming for the forest.
Matt Burton they are a nice addition. I felt the same way originally but they add a much needed twist to an old formula that slightly tweak the way you play. We enjoyed them.
Also, the food tokens are not much of an improvement, they were perfectly fine (different size, round shape)... and the way they tried to make stone & gold more valuable looks tacked on to me. The only thing that I'd like to have is the winter aesthetic and maybe the animals. I'm definitely sticking with my base copy for now. It's probably a nice way to jump into Stone Age if you've never tried it, but even then, that price tag is not really justified.
Stick with the original. This new version is awful and not worth the price. I unfortunately bought it preorder and was quite disappointed when it arrived, nothing really stands out. It just looks like a lazy design knockoff. The meeples are hideous and the map has NOTHING new to offer. If they were investing in new art at least do something innovative and change it up a bit. Biggest regret of the year so far.

lol that's funny because I've been trying to sell one for years.
Hi, is it possible to buy this winter game? Or is it no longer available anywhere?
Thank you for showing me the meeples close up and explaining the expansions. Third video I've had to watch to get that info.

Thank you so much for this! Been waiting to know the differences so that I could decide on getting it or not
#MvM12Days so going forward would you play the winter or standard version of the game?
Adam Demers I’ll play the winter variant every time moving forward.

Stone Age is great! I love the look of the winter side. Thanks for the video!
I've been on the fence about getting Stone Age, but this anniversary edition may convince me. #MVM12DAYS
