I don’t know why this kata is not in the Goju Ryu curriculum?! Beautiful, dynamic, powerful, fierce. I think I will try and learn it. Thank you for posting this, Sensei.
shito ryu adapted almost all katas from okinawa, aprox. 65 katas. The origin of this Kata is not really from Liuei Liu (Ryuei Ryu) the Japanese language cant pronounce the L the say instead R, the chinese on the contrary have difficult rolling the r they say L isntead. Its like Shaolin Liu, in Japanese its Shaorin Ryu . Anyway, he origin and the creator of this kata are unknown, but it was preserved in Okinawa and be credited to Makaima Norisato. He traveled a lot to China. and the "School" who made it well known was Ruei Ruy! but the origin is not from there.
Hi I'm just learning anan kata with private lesson s. I'm really enjoying this and I've found your tutorial which is identical to how we do it. Thank you for the education. Do you guys class this into shitioryu. osu
Hi Helen. This kata wasn't originally part of Shito-Ryu. It was adopted into Shito-Ryu over the years due to Teruo Hayashi, Soke studying this kata during his travels to Okinawa with Shogo Kuniba, Soke. This has caused a lot of confusion and debate among people who are interested in (and know) the history of this kata, Shito-Ryu in general, etc. Hayashi, Soke is often given all the credit for this, and other, kata being included in Shito-Ryu, although as I understand it, Kuniba, Soke was with him during these trips and they both studied and trained with the same teachers (Nagamine, Sensei, Nakaima, Sensei, etc.). Thank you for your comments!
