Hi, i just got a 25 days old baby cockatiel(approximately). Its not accepting bird formula and is sleepy all the time. I still feed it about 4 ml of handfeed formula three times a day. Should I be concerned. Please let me know.
You should be concerned not for sleepy behaviour as it is normal but the amount of feed. It should be taking 15ml at least and should already be starting to eat some seeds. Hope this helps

i just bought a 1 month and 5 days old cockateil from the market. i noticed all the siblings are not active problably because it was 9pm? but when it wa fine however when i brought it home it started sneezing a lot.. there was substance in his nose could it be the reason? im scared its ill or something. should i return it or is it healthy?
Hello, yes return those chicks.. chicks should be active and playful. They are sneezing because in market they won’t get desired temperature and they would have caught up with cold.
Sir my 1 month budgie baby crop is completely empty but little bit of food is its top right side of neck . And no sign of loose motion . Can you please tell me what is it and is it a thing to worry about.😊
Hey, it’s difficult to say… as long as you’re not over feeding and baby is digesting all food, there is no reason to worry

Yes they can but not advised. Usually should wait up to 15-18 months to start breeding.

Same tips applies to Adult Bird. In addition you need to see feather quality, weight and size. Bird should be active and it should not be sitting at one place with his feathers puffed up. Feathers puffed up means that bird is sick. Hope this helps.

Quality depends on health and specially feathers. Another thing that you should see that if the bird is ringed with Breeders mark. I’ve seen cockatiel with broken feather and those are not damaged, those are bad quality feathers. If buying cockatiel then ask if it is German Crested Cockatiel. Those are best as per my experience. All mine are of that breed.

Hello, he need to be fed with glucose. Make an ORH water and it should be at the temperature 35c and feed baby time to time to gain strength.

Yes, may be just two times a day. See if the hand feed is digested and then you can make it three times.

You can guess after 3 months based on behaviour but I prefer DNA testing.

hi sir,i need a help.i am planning to handfeed a my cockatiel chick.the reason is that the parents are not feeding the chick very well. from your videos i made my mind not to remove the chicks from parents at anycost,but out of 3 chicks ,only 1 survived and it is 20 days old.this the second clutch of the pair and the first clutch has been successful,but i don't know why this cluth is a disaster.one of the parent is 4 years old and i got it when it was 33 days old,luckly as it was the time for partial weaning i was able to handfeed it and make a good bond,but i have never tried handfeeding again till that day after seeing a lot of casualities due to unnessary handfeeding on the internet.can i handfeed this chick with little past experience and dedication that i have,i can wakeup even at night to feed the chick but the only issue is that caan i feed it.
these are some points that i want to share to let you know what i know about handfeed;
1.good quality handfeeding at right consistency at a temperature of 37 to 40 degrees celcius
2.good temperature,preferably incubator(i have a diy chicken incubator )
3.gentle handling
4.while feeding,we must make the feeding such that bird has enough time to breathe between the feedings
5. while feeding give support to the bird's head
6.always check the crop before we feed and while feeding and after feeding.feed from left side of the birdss beak tilting the syringe tip right side of the bird
7.as the bird 17 days old ,consistensy of the feed should be around 30 feed and 70 water to 40 feed and 60 water
8.i need to feed 3 times a day,possible feed intake of the bird will be around 5-8 ml per feed
9.in case of sour crop,indigestion i know that we need to feed some youghurt,massage crop,try neopeptine(some breeder recomendation) in aa worst case crop wash/flush (i dont think a begginer can do this)
10.never overfeed,less is good.
11.a correctly fed good crop always feels like a bean bag but not tight like a baloon and saggy and lose like dehydated grape(this happens in case of dehydarated crop).
note:can you tell me how to estimate bird's crop size to its body so that i can know weather i overfed or underfed or etc etc
Hello, you have done your homework and that shows in your post. As the chick is 17 days old, you start with 5ml feed 3 to 4 times a day for first few days. if he cries for food then feed him up to 10ml 3 times a day and increase it upto 15ml max in one feed. Introduce millet and let him get the taste of it. I never used but you can use neipeptine 1 or two drop in initial feed for few days to help support digestion. Night feed should be always thinner as compared to day. All the best.
