Thats why I prefer to play Hearthstone myself and I love it. It has lots of simple to understand mechanics and each expansion they add a new one without been overwhelming.
      Base mechanics:
      1. Battlecry: triggers when it enters the field.
      2. Deathrattle: triggers when it dies
      3. Immune: immune to any damage.
      4. Charge: it can attack the turn it's summoned
      Etc
      Class Mechanics:
      1. Overload: X mana will be locked next turn
      2. Combo: triggers if another card was played this turn.
      Etc
      Expansion mechanics:
      1. Rush: it can attack minions the turn it was summoned.
      2. Magnetize: it can be fused to another mech miniom.
      3. Overkill: triggers if any excess damage is done.
      4. Echo: it can be used/summoned as many times as you can this turn.
A lot of mechanics but stilll very simple.

honestly... to me the real problem of yugioh today is not even how many things we have now, like all the new summoning options but... honestly we are in a era so focused on not letting your opponent do anything (just look at firewall dragon combo as an good example) but it doesnt matter if cards like this one got forbid, the game is always around the same idea, locking your opponent, making decks around that cant be stopped easily by the many options like hand traps for example (to be fair i wish those cards didnt exist)...and there´s little space from different and interesting ways of playing, i personally loves the one boss card gamestyle, using your researches to put a powerfull monster on the field that is gonna be difficult to overcome to your opponent and will be responsible for your victory....this simple doesnt exist anymore, just look at Supreme king z-arc for example, does anyone uses him? no...its because he is bad? no, but because the game works around in a way that even if you make a card that cannot be tributed by kaiju, its immune to everything, people are not gonna this card at all if he needs most of your resorces at only him

The concept of syncho summoning is that every living being has a frequency measured wavelength. A monster like sangan for example has frequency of 3, and a tuner like debris dragon has a frequency of 4. Debris dragon is a tuner because it can tune the frequency of sangan and itself to match the wavelengths of black rose dragon which has a frequency wavelength of 7. When the wavelength of 7 is reached, black rose dragon COMES OUTTA NOWHERE!
Konami uses levels to represent their wavelengths, which is why in the anime there is a dark tuner which subtracts levels instead of adding, because those monsters frequency is at a lower wavelength than black rose dragon.
      9:55
XYZ monsters innately more balanced than synchro monsters. XYZ monster is the "gun" and overlay units are the "bullets". XYZ monsters can only use their effects depending on how many "bullets" they carry. If they run out, they are typically useless. That is, until Konami gave them BS effects that are continuous or lets the monster resupply (cyber dragon infinity). Synchro monsters retain their effects even if they leave the field and get reborn...XYZ decks trade power for consistency.

Quick play spells can be used either during your turn or during your opponents turn if you set it. If you do set them, they will behave more like traps and you will have to wait a turn before you can use them.
Additionally, quick play spells can also be activated from your hand during the "battle phase", so most people set them during "main phase 2" so that they can be used during the "battle phase" if needed.

I started playing again last month after putting the game on hiatus for 16 years. I remember the simple times when all I had to worry about was which of my opponent's two face down monsters should I attack without triggering a devastating effect like Man Eater Bug or Cyber Jar.
Now, I come back, buy the latest Zombie Horde Structure deck and enter a local tournament to meet people I could regularly play with and find that the other guy started his first turn and by his Main Phase 2 already had 12 cards in the graveyard, 1 Link monster, two XYZ monsters, a field card that prevents any monsters from being destroyed by battle, two face down cards in the spell/trap zone. And here I am, sitting with my strongest Saitama "Ok" face, saying the following "I set a monster face down and end my turn."

Then returning a few years later for XYZ's and understanding that too. And then returning a few years after that to pendulums, queueing up with my old Crystal Beast /w some Syncro and XYZ synergy, going second.
First turn the other guy sets a pendulum scale, and I sort of get it's the new mechanic, I play as usual, and then on his turn 2, he puts down the second scale, and shit goes to hell. 5 minutes later when he FINALLY ends his turn with 4 cards in hand, 3 set traps and 4 monsters on the field with 2000-3000 ATK and 8-10 lines of effect text each, I'm there thinking "WHAT IN THE FLYING FUCK HAPPENED JUST NOW?!?!"

If you were part of the community during this, you would've had time to understand the new rule before another new rule was added. If you're a new or returning player, you see loads of new rules and exceptions to the rules that just make everything hard to understand.

Sorry for the long comment, but I had to share these experiences. So, I have tried to teach Yu-gi-oh! with two people. One is my 9 year-old nephew and the other is my 23 year-old friend.
Starting off with my nephew, he had no clue about Yu-gi-oh! and was curious. So, I bought him a Link Strike starter deck and told him I'd be glad to teach him. Knowing that, he had no idea how to play, I tried to explain how to summon and how the zones worked. I've explained to him how the Field and Turns/Phases worked. I get that he doesn't understand it, since he is a 9 year-old, and some cards have problem-solving text on it, I gave up trying to explain a paragraph on cards. There is a lot of stuff to read, memorize and understand on most, if not all, and I haven't even gone through the Extra Deck Monsters and Chains. Teaching Yu-gi-oh! to my 9 year-old nephew was rough.
And finally my 23 year-old friend, so he came to me and asked if I could teach him how to play. I was glad that he asked because I wanted to play with some friends on YGOpro. He told me he wanted to play a cool deck with a cool boss monster, so I suggested him Ultimate Conductor Tyranno, and he liked that I suggested him that card for him as a boss monster. I help make his deck on YGOpro and as soon as the deck was made. He just wanted to get right into it. I told him that he has to read the card and understand the effects, but he wanted to start duel. So I thought sure, it'll be fine, some zones will be indicated on the screen, I'm sure he understands. But sure enough, he had Ultimate Conductor Tyranno and another effect monster and the funniest/worst part was. He Link Summoned it for an Underclock Taker! He could have used Tyranno's effect and win the game. I laughed so hard that he did that and I won the game afterwards. So even YGOpro can't help solve the problem. I told him to watch one of your videos to understand all the summons; other videos understanding Turns and Phases and some Deck Profiles to understand the cards better. And then the next day comes and says that he understands how to summon and maybe some effects. So then we dueled again that next day, I'm playing Lair of Darkness and it was my turn two move, I start using Lilith effect with Lair of Darkness to tribute his Tyranno and he was baffled at what even happened, due to having long paragraph effects and so many monsters/spells/traps with them. Just comes to show, even a 23 year-old man could barely understand how the game works today.
TL;DR - Tried to teach Yu-gi-oh! to two people that don't know the game; my nephew (9 years-old) and my friend (23 years-old), both had a hard time understanding it.

Synchro summons were able to produce power for the city. Tuner monsters acted as that initial energy input, the summoning was the nuclear reaction, energy is output, and the synchro monster itself is the resulting byproduct.

Well now they have a job and time to kill so I am teaching them. The background of the anime really helped for Synchro and Xyz as well as phases and how summoning works.
As bad as the anime used to get the rules it still helps give some level of background for the game.

As someone who has played Yu-Gi-Oh throughout the years, a lot has changed in the scope of casual play. It used to be much easier to come across a wide array of decks. Now, everyone seems to be running what I'd expect at YCS since it's super easy to download and import decks that were used in tournaments. The strategies that people use are roughly the same, which, can be annoying and also easy to counter at times if you know what to expect. But trying to expect beginners to pick up this game casually when there aren't people who play as casually becomes a frustrating part. It becomes frustrating to people so they pick up meta techniques, which in then makes it difficult to people that want to play away from meta that don't want to pick up newer cards.
I wish Konami cared more about balancing the current archetypes that are out and allow for decks to have more viability. People only play annoying strategies because the support to countering this is pretty low and hard to do if you don't have a lot of prior knowledge about the game. If Konami had almost all archetypes become viable, these annoying strategies would die down since there would be easier ways to countering what is played, so people would have to play their decks in a more broad way and not rely on strategies that could get shutdown if the right counters existed

Link monsters are actually much simpler than Pendulums, imo. They're not too dissimilar to Synchros in terms of how they are summoned, and personally I think that needing to manage your extra monster zones and even sometimes needing to carefully consider which zone you summon to adds a bit of extra depth. Plus, their introduction also nerfed Pendulum monsters, which I agree were a bit too complicated. All in all I think Links were well designed and a good inclusion.
I'd recommend considering giving Links a try. I was skeptical at first but I ended up liking them quite a bit.

The fact is that there will always be game states where it's impossible for you to win. It's a staple of every card game. Sometimes your opponent just drew the nuts and all your answers are at the bottom of the deck. The problem with yugioh is that power creep has led to those answer-or-lose board states coming out of absolutely nowhere. It's become a game where every deck has to be consistent, fast and controlling or it's irrelevant.
Also, speaking of irrelevant... Man Eater Bug? Penguin Soldier? Next thing you know, you're gonna be telling me to believe in the heart of the cards.

The cards are just too compilcated. There was a time were yugioh had that perfect balance between beeing complex and having a lot of ways that you could use your card effects while still having fun..but now its just a joke. I actually think its impossible for a new or returning player to really have fun with YuGiOh. Reading the whole Harry Potter Book series is quicker and easier to do, than reading while somewhat remembering the never ending card effects of a new meta or even offmeta deck. I remember back in the days when XYZ-Cards were around for quite some time, that we used to joke about how some turns just take forever to complete..boy oh boy..now these jokes actually became real. I played a duel on Ygopro couple of weeks ago and this one guy just made a turn that lasted forever where he used more than half of his deck. Then he oneshotted me. yey.
The card game seems to be unplayable for people who have a somewhat normal conception of what fun actually means right now.

Uh... You can summon only1 extradeck monster if you dont have links, so you forced to use link if you wanna use more extra monster, in fact it's just simply shit every deck that spamming monster from extradeck because you need to link your field with the extra monster zone so... To do that... You need to use link monsters and... Well it's quite difficult to summon a bunch of xyz, synchron or fusion monsters. And remember the pendulum zone is now merged with spell/trap card zone so.. If you use pendulum, you now only have 2 slots for continuous spell or trap cards to set and 1 slot to activate normal/quick play spell, and it just made a tons of pendulum deck became shit... After links , u have to think carefully which xyz or synchro u wanna summon , which is way better than flooding the place with big monsters with bigger texts
So when i play against someone all i have to read is the 1 or maybe 2 extra deck monsters they summon and figure a way out to stop them , not stop a fucking army

Now literally every card is part of an Archetype, & their effects are specifically beneficial to said archetype. Long gone are the days where you could make a deck from 10 random booster packs & still have a chance of winning a duel or 2.
There's absolutely no way a Vanilla/Effect Deck can win anymore, and adding fusions would require you to add an Archetype anyway.

Yugioh @ its core has become "win by 1st turn". This means all cards work to fulfill this agenda. That's why this game is so difficult for new ppl. You do not have monsters in yugioh, u have 'monster sets' so when u buy a pack and get a card like a light sworn monster. It sucks on it's own and it has a confusing effect so in order to really understand that one card u need like 8 more cards to make it clear. And when ur playing and ur opponent pulls a 10 chain monster combo with 3 books of text for all the effects they are pulling, u just sit there like wtf? Is my opponent making this all up or are all these effects real? It's not only a mess it has become an addiction for young ppl with power complexes. Yes! I used these intentional set that the pack already made with these connections to kill u bad in one turn, I'm awesome. That's not a strategy. Its pandering to a consumer base to sell packs. Instead of quality. Ppl will buy the packs because they need the new set that kills everything.

Bit of story here, but I really feel this video! I played yu gi oh as young kiddo when summed skull and dark magician were the bee's knees and stopped playing shortly after the sacred beasts came out. (Raviel was my OG) The closing point was when my mum accidentally threw out my fiend (raviel) deck and I had long stopped buying new cards and only ever played for fun with my cousin anyway. 6 months ago my cousin and I were chilling and bathing in our nostalgia growing up and yu gi oh came up, and what did he have in his cupboard but a shoe box FULL of cards from the beginning to the end of our era of yu gi oh! It was a huge trip and we immediately tried to dive back in both having stopped at around the same time with ZERO knowledge of the games development, changes, new anime etc. His best deck was elemental heros but he had some other old school deck types like; earth decks, 'dragon' decks, six samurai (original cards), the games were slow, his elemental heros always won with the special summon conditions, I couldn't tribute out monsters fast enough and he could easily swamp his board while I had to play a card a turn. We fought over rulings every game but we had such a great time that I swore I'd start collecting again once I finished college in June. Here I am...
WTF HAPPENED WHILE I WAS GONE. And tbh, I mean that in a good way!... Mainly anyway... My first purchase was a link strike starter deck. I've got a trickstar deck and Bujin deck now and am active on Duel Links (where I first discovered the bujin cards). BUT. I have spent the past 5 months or so literally relearning the game. I have spent hours researching timings, spell speeds, chain rulings, summoning rules, listening to youtubers breakdown deck profiles, effect rulings and every time I go to play with my cousin he thinks I'm making the game up as I go, it's actually hillarious how much we have to adjust the way we play everytime I try to pitch my new butchered rendition of a tournament rule to him. But the big thing is, we still love it. More so in fact! It's so exciting to find out this huge untapped world of depth behind this game we played so naively and innocently as children. Every time we meet with a problem solving card or complicated chain it's really fun to debate what ruling on it makes the most sense, and the most fun to play.
This way of playing a casual card game probably isn't for everybody and I've yet to head to locals but I'm sure some stranger whipping my ass in the duel while telling me I'm playing the game wrong is going to rub me the wrong way, but the depth and detail make it worth investing in.
Admittedly, I totally agree with you on the pendulums though, every extra deck edition seems bad ass and straight forward EXCEPT for pendulum. Wtf is that? It's like this whole new card type that doesn't quite sit in right in the meta. It feels okay if I think of it as an Archaetype but it just doesn't play well as a whole new card type. It's like they got an idea from the crystal beast cards and while trying to create card support they got carried away and just went way too far. LINKS on the other hand, are genius. The extra deck limitations makes duels far more strategic, rewarding and interesting. Having to consider board placement make the game require more hindsight to play well. Like chess, it uses physical, visual and mental strategy now. The difference is that the pieces look like badass monsters and demons. Which I think is just genius from the game designers.
A big difference in game play from the old days to now, and the innitial reason I started writing this is really to say the game has become so much faster despite all the card text reading... It seems like a few years ago the game got way too fast paced with the extra deck, but with the link concept it feels like it just works now, it's the most fun I've ever thought the game has been.
If you want to teach someone to play, start them off with a starter deck, plain and simple, there's a reason every starter deck this year is riddled with common prints of cards from 2002. They're straightforward one liner cards! There's normal monsters! You can't really utilise the link cards since there's no xyz or fusion cards which is a shame but you can still get a child/novice adult to engage in the game. I've relearnt how to play modern yu gi oh I think (probably, to some extent), in 5 months on my own, but if there wasn't a youtube community guiding me, I would have given up/never got it by now and had I access to more experienced players to duel in person, I'd have got this far way earlier on. Learn to play by playing, problem solve as you go! That's the game! Konami revamp the game mechanic every new anime season seemingly, I'd say that's why it's so complicated now (over 15yrs later), but there's so many itterations of these mechanics that as long as you know what about the game play makes the game fun for you, and you have someone to guide you through the fundamental rules, the details are negotiable between you and the opponent as you try to both win, fill in the rule book fairly and most of all, have fun doing it!
Big shoutout to all the youtubers like TGS and SimplyUnlucky, that bring these debates to the table, discuss individual cards and rulings in a way that beginners like me can join the discussion and leave with an ever better, more fun way to approach and play the phenomenal card game that is, Yu Gi Oh.
TL;DR yeah soz this one was for me, don't even bother trying to read this xD

As somebody who stopped playing in 2016 or so, around the time when pendulum's were first making their appearance, i gotta say that this is somewhat melencholy.
Anymore watching a duel feels like seeing a deck play on autopilot while the players simply sit there and wait for it to get done. 10-20 cards activating in a turn, 15-20 cards in the graveyard and nearly a full field of caeds by turn one, and already having a damned army full of monsters that in era's before could have been boss monsters that you would build an entire deck arpund maybe one or two of. Otk's and ftk's are stale now instead of impressive as thats usually the strategy almost every meta deck tries to go for.
Any card that takes more than a turn to do something massive is slow, having cards in the graveyard is a good thing now when it used to be one of the worst things next to banished cards, tribute summons are almost worthless and special summons are no longer deserving of that name as they have replaced normal summons in how frequently they happen.
The entire game has changed from a nice casual-yet-complex card game where it took actual wit to win even with pretty good cards into "my entire deck summoned itself out on turn one and has stopped you from doing the same therefore i win by turn 3." If your deck isnt meta it is immediately trashed by whatever it comes across and its gotten so complex that rebuilding an old deck to work with new mechanics feels like you have to gut 90% of it to even have a chance at building something fun yet successful.
But you know the worst part? The fact that i know that i, as a player, have no way of changing this. I cant simply roll up to a tournament and change the meta with a deck i pulled from my ass because the meta has become so tight and efficient that if your opponent goes first theres eveery chance you'll lose before your turn is even over.
There isnt any way to go back to how the game once was without hoping that konami will change something to fix it or abandoning 50-80% of the community to find some niche group that only plays a slower format.
Its nice to see that the game i loved playing with my friends at the start of highschool is still kicking around and getting love from its creators but to see how much it has changed (imo, for the worse) kind of breaks my heart. But hey, at least i'll always have those memories of half-hour long duels with my friends.

Xyz monsters ain't so bad, and once you figure out Pendulum summoning they can be cool too (I guess). Point is, don't deliberatly avoid following the progression of the game, it just makes it harder if you if you wanna get back into it in the future. Besides, the reason the original stuff from Duel Monsters and GX feels easier in retrospect is because you probably didn't follow the rules 100%. Like you probably didn't factor in activation timing, spell speed, priority, etc.

These mechanics aren't as hard as your mind is tricking you into thinking.
Synchro's are super simple. Take a Tuner, take a Non-Tuner(s) and do basic math.
I want a Level 8. So just add the Tuner's level and the non-Tuner(s) level(s) until you have 8.
Xyz are even more simplistic. The Xyz tells you how many and what type you need
But it all boils down too 'take x Monsters with the same level, place them on top of each other, place the Xyz on top of them and wah-lah. Then you just take the cards underneath and send them to the Graveyard when using an effect that asks for that.

I'm part of the scrub side of the community if you will; I play Duel Links and that's it. I enjoy Yugioh but as someone who only had real, physical cards back when I was a child and GX was the brand new thing, I have to say that you're right, the sheer amount of mechanics is pretty overwhelming when looking at Yugioh as a whole right now. I didn't even know pendulum monsters went to the extra deck of all places when you destroyed them!
I voted on how I don't get timing at all. The best example I can give is how, when using a Naturia deck with no boss monsters, I had Eggplant on the field face down. Its effect does sth when it is sent from the field to the graveyard, I just can't recall what exactly, and when I tributed it for a Stag Beetle, I just got a message saying "you missed your timing" and I had no idea what that meant. I looked it up and still have no idea what it means; I can only assume it means Eggplant only triggers if its sent to my graveyard from my field on my opponent's turn, but the card doesn't say that so it just bugs me a little.

    • @HaloTekkenFan55
      @HaloTekkenFan55 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Naturia eggplant misses timing because its effect starts with when, litterally thats pretty much all to it, effects that start with when can lose timing. The reason is that for when effects to activate their trigger needs to be the last action to happen. so in your case when you tributed eggplant, the first that happened was eggplant got tributed and sent to grave, then stag was played and successfully summoned. Problem solving card text is pretty much the unwritten rules of yugioh that often get left out from the rulebooks.

Did it for a few years, quit among the end of GX era. So synchro, xyz, pendulum, and link were like foreign concepts to me. My friends and I got together again a few years back and to reminisce we started to play again, we learned Synchro and Xyz, I gave up after that, it became confusing when the speed spells and other effects that (you’re right, had about 3 paragraphs to just say destroy monster or draw a card. To many pieces moving and too many conditions for the cards to be actually good. So I gave up, they still play and one of my buddies has a great channel and Duel links TH-cam channel and Ig, so I guess one of us got it and some just gave up on it.
And I understand why ban cards but damn, why release them in the first place. Some are already banned prior to their release which makes them obsolete and a waste of money because they just stay in your card binder or box.

  • @MajinMaster97
    @MajinMaster97 5 ปีที่แล้ว +102

The problem with the long card texts is that YGO doesn't actually have any mechanics, it's an exceptionally shallow game.
All of the card interactions are only present on the cards themselves. Instead of pulling from a massive library of mechanics that are simple in isolation but interesting and ultimately complex in conjunction with each other like a game such as Magic does, Yugioh realizes that it has no base to stand on and instead needs to supplement the game by simply ignoring it with the effects of new monsters.
Pendulums were the best examples, but it goes as far back as synchro monsters. Konami realized that there was nothing to go off of for the game and started to print monsters that abused special summoning, that could be used in the extra deck without polymerization, now they've basically completely removed the backrow and 'setting' "mechanics" from the game in favor of a fucking obnoxious king-of-the-hill Link style and it's just terrible.
The mass exodus from the game with Pendulum monsters killed the game at my local shop, nobody around me hosts events for it and I quit around then too. It's going to happen with their next ridiculous gimmick, even if I sort of liked Links in theory, they didn't save the game.

    • @TheKpa11
      @TheKpa11 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yeah it seems like Yugioh has to deviate from the card game it was originally based on and go into other spin off media to sort of make better use of its designs and ideas. It always had the potential for it simply cause ANYTHING could be a Yugioh card. Cause it's like you said there's no base.
Like anime wise the card game is a "Gimmick" it's used to illustrate battling opposed to traditional fighting. So it can be argued that "Dueling" could retain some form without it necessarily involving the card game aspect. Most would probably love an RPG style game featuring these monsters and those have happened in some shapes and forms.

If the game gets a reboot it needs maybe a mechanic where instead of wording out immunities, display a symbol. There's no option to pretend you're an anime character and win through honesty and friendship, because not even Yami Yugi himself, with the ability to draw any card he wants at the perfect time, would ever win a match against SPYRAL with his shitty deck. I hate that all the YugiBoomers tend to forget that by the first few tournaments there were already super degenerate and NOT FUN strategies, like Yata-lock, and magical scientist FTK. Konami has always made shady and bad cards, and it's no the fault of the players for using them. The game is complicated, but it's also an old game that's going on 15 years. And games always have "back and forth", and to me and those who play modern formats, it's very interesting to watch championship duels between good competitive decks. The only modern thing that I dislike are Link restrictions (which are already going away partially with MR5)

    • @coolkidsclub9943
      @coolkidsclub9943 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@Dark Shadow Storm The coin toss and opening draw does not always decide the winner, hence why Konami has printed so many hand traps and floodgates. It's not the player's faults for choosing decks, and it is entirely Konami's fault if they make broken cards. Old school Yu-Gi-Oh was arguably less exciting because the variation in decks was far smaller. For the past few years, with a few moments of newly released decks as an exception, the meta has been more diverse than ever before. And that's a good thing.

But I absolutely agree I have no idea how kids these days can jump into Yu-Gi-Oh now with all the different crazy archetypes and ways of playing this link summoning and now the speed dueling. I'm mostly a collector but I've been with Yu-Gi-Oh since the beginning so 18 or 19 years I've always known the rules. I think the link summoning thing that's definitely ruined many strategies and archetypes and I really just don't like the mechanics of it. Took me a very long time to warm up to pendulum by the time I did links were coming out. What happened to the good old days when the Egyptian god cards were all the rage with their three sacrifices being the most interesting twist to the game? I know some the feeling though I didn't hang on as long as you. My first decks were Kiaba and Pegasus and my brothers was Joey's and Yugi's. Kept playing the game during yugioh GX. We had 4 pieces of Exodia, Chaos Emperor Dragon, 2 Black Luster Soldier Envoys, and while we never had great decks we had fun. Then we got the championship game for DS and had a blast. He built a powerful high attack and defense deck and I built a brutal remove from play macro deck. We stopped watching when 5ds came out because we thought the concept of yugioh battles on a bike was dumb and power creep was already becoming a thing by the end of GX. Genewarped wolf, Chainsaw insect, and destiny hero defender anyone? Finally got around to getting new cards because a stardust dragon tin looked cool and then I discovered synchro and was like what the hell?...and that was kind of the end of yugioh for the both of us. We love original yugioh and just don't really want the new tactics. Sure synchro didn't change all that much but things just went off the rails after that to me. If synchro exists, why fusion? Rather than complement the original cards, they seemed to replace the old mechanics which I feel is exactly what has happened. Recently I picked the DS game up again and watched some youtube videos for card ideas and watched them saying how practically none of our strategies or traps work in modern yugioh because of xyz and links. No one uses traps for the most part, and my incredible burn plays with microcosmos and reasoning/monster gate/card destruction/morphing jar among others combined with things like soul absorption and necroface are now an absolute joke compared to what people can do now.
It's just sad to see that the game has changed so much that our entire generation of yugioh seems to have been fazed out completely. People even say a lot of cards can come off the ban list now because no one would use them anyway. I still proudly place 2 face downs and place one monster and end my turn, and that's how I plan to keep it. The nostalgia has yet to get old.

Ex- pro and shitty ex yugituber here, i loved yugioh, i had tens of thousands of cards, i was playing competitively on and off straight from the start of the game. For me pendulums ruined the game to the point where it was unplayable, but it was a pretty shitty slope heading up to that so i think i would have to agree with every one of your points, but i would say the huge power creep is the problem, creating cards that made everything before it useless, the tier 0 decks. Pendulums allowed the ability to summon 5 monsters every single turn and if they died they went straight back to the extra deck so you could do it again next turn, which made almost all traps useless. It had such a ripple effect to where the game had become like solitaire, it became, get your unkillable monsters out first turn, then win. But as i said it was a slippery slope, just before pendulums you had one of the most broken cards in the game "Spellbook of judgement" which allowed you to go +15 in your hand and put a big monster on the field if you wanted to which in a game where having more cards then your opponent is amazing made it really broken. You also had shadolls and nekroz as archtype which didn't let your opponent play the game, Elemental dragons which are fine on their own at 1, but with the babies, or at 3, became unbelievably broken. You had super strong XYZ monsters like "silent honers ark" and "exciton knight", which became pot of greed like staples for every single deck that had level 4 monsters. Even slightly before all this shit that went down, you had the wind up loop which ruined you and inzektors that destroyed your entire field to swarm the field. Even before this you had plant synchro decks, goat control and even glad beasts when they came out were all tier 0 decks. So shitty card design and shitty mechanics has always been around, but when it ruins everything before it, then thats a problem and its some thing that just keeps happening in modern yugioh. nobody complained when bujins, or gravekeepers, or black wings, or masked/e-heros, or madolche, or fire-fists, or lighsworns, or six-sams or even something arguably broken like evilswarns came out, these are all fun and unique ways to play the game with awesome mechanics. But when you can't even play the game, when you can't even use your mechanics, then that's the true problem with yugioh. Let me put it to you this way, if your a yugioh player and you were playing a guy who ran an exodia deck and every single turn they drew exodia in their opening hand, would that be fun?

Can't konami have tournaments that are specific types only like fusion only, synchro, xyz, and pendulum so players (new comers mostly) only have to learn link summoning and a certain type of specail summoning

    • @dubyeet3597

@1 0 since the new master rule we can whatever we like again , so my new opinion is have tournaments with one type of special summoning mechanic then a grand tournament where the winners face each other and the number 1 special summon mechanic could get like a boss card

playing some of the video games really helps you learn the rules and stuff. I remember back then I played yugioh 2006 on gba and I learned a ton from it.
I also think it's funny how duel links is basically repeating yugioh's meta history like at the start for example, it was mostly just beat down decks lol

I'm open to learning pendulum and link summoning, I just never feel like unpacking all of that lol. That, and I don't like the idea of people special summoning all these monsters with a paragraph of different text on each at the same time lol. It's exhausting to read every card and remember all of the effects during a duel compared to cards from Yugi era to Yusei

You should try goat format, you can look it up online, but basically it's a format where you only use cards from 2005 and before. It's a lot more fun in my opinion and has a small following that is growing.

I feel like links were only created to fix the mess that was pendulum. The pendulum mechanics turned the game into a dumpster fire imo

captain t bag You see, Konami tried to fix the Pendulum problem with Links, but now Links are the new dumpster fire. Trust me when I say they shut down A LOT of decks. And even then, Pendulums still happen to be prevalent in the game.

agreed, as a man who uses a PEPE deck and a fusion deck with a friend who uses link-cyberse, they both can be super overpowered

    Basic Spell Speeds:
    1: Spell Cards
2: Quick-Play Spell cards and Trap Cards
    3: Counter-Traps
I will also state that power-creep is what is keeping older players out because you have to buy a new deck every time one comes out due to how new decks are more powerful than older decks on a general basis.
