As I understand it the last rule isn't even called Master Rule 4 in the TCG.

Probably the reason why Konami is having the rule update start on April 1st is because April 1st is the beginning of their fiscal year for many of the Japanese companies, including Konami so they probably wanted to align with their next fiscal year.

As someone who left the game due to Pendulums, excessive text, disinterest in archetypes that didn't finish my existing 23-32(?)+ decks, and rarely having open schedule overlaps with friends to actually play, as well as being very off-put by the Link Monsters being a prerequisite to run my Synchro decks as built, I very much like the light of this change.
Yu-gi-oh Duel Links has recently gotten me back into the game, and I still have my whole collection still, though I will probably not buy packs at all I would probably look into singles of cards that are for my old decks. That is if the availability thing ever stopped being an issue.
Only to realize someone finds a way to exploit synchros every time and just wants to spam double Quasars/Blazars 😶
I run Synchrons myself. I recently had to try to balance it with main deck power houses which wasn't easy.

Also Konami: Okay, we sold enough, let's act like nothing happened and go back to what it was, so that we can bring more players in and sell other cards with the past summonig methods.
Well, not everything is back to how it was. Pendulum summons are still restricted to extra monster zones and linked zones, as well as pendulum zones are still merged with magic and trap zones. But I'm fine with it, being able to basically special summon 5 monsters in one turn with no cost was pretty over powered so they needed to limit the amount of monsters you can pendulum summon. Fusion, Synchro, and Xyz monsters were fine and should be left as is.

Nutshell:
Fusion, Synchro, Xyz freed from Link Restrictions. If any of these 3 are summoned, you can choose to put in either Main Monster Zone or Extra Monster Zone.
Links and Pendulum: Must abide by all rules set up from Master Rule 4 for them.
Only effects face up pendulum monsters in extra deck, doesn't effect pendulum monsters in hand
Wasn't ritual monsters affected by the extra zone? Or does it designate a extra deck monster though pendulum monsters are just flood gate.
@@haruhisuzumiya6650 Ritual monsters come from the main deck. Only monsters from the Extra Deck go into the Extra Monster Zone. Pendulum monsters summoned face up from the Extra deck can only go to the Extra Monster Zone of zones Link Monsters point to.
Once Master Rule 5 happened, Fusion, Synchro, and Xyz are no longer restricted and can be summoned to either the Extra Monster zone or Main Monster zone without need of a Link Monster.

The names of the Zones aren't really representative of which Deck you can summon Monsters from, it's that the Main Monster Zones are your main Zones and the Extra Monster Zones are just that, *extra* Zones. I mean, even before this revision, it was still possible to get Extra Deck Monsters onto your Main Monster Zones, you just needed to either use Link Monsters or summon them from an area that wasn't the Extra Deck (like the Graveyard).

I think you mean Pendulum Monsters that were face up from the Extra Deck still got the shaft.
Cuz you could normally Pendulum Summon 5 monsters from hand, but only 1 from Extra Deck.
Yeah, but part of the whole pendulum gimmick was the pendulum monsters that had been destroyed/left the field wouldn’t be gone for long.
So its only shifting the pendulum monsters in you extra deck. The ones in can go to normal monster zone
Well, either use link monsters or find ways to recycle the ones on e.d like via Pot of Riches (which is a bad card... But hey, it's a +1.)
Pendelums summoned from.your hand were still a normal monster. They aren't extra deck cards until they go to your extra deck.

I remember the cool magic card “monster zone” which closes two monster zones. Those were the days, being able to make your rival unable to summon any monsters at all
You must mean the normal spell: Ground collapse. It lets you select two monster zones to seal. The selected zones cannot be used. I run it in my time lord deck, and its still reaaaaly useful especially when stacked, even with links and stuff being a thing

As someone thoroughly screwed by Master Rule 4 with my Blue-Eyes and Dark Magician decks (call me old-fashioned if you must), I'm happy about this change.
I never play tournaments. So whenever I play in casual matches, I always use the Arc-V era rules

Same but MR3. No Pendulums or Links. Everything up to XYZs. So much better imo.
I think is incredibly fair. Unlike Fusion, Synchro, and XYZ, Pendulum monsters don’t have a cost to resummon them from the extra deck As long as you have the needed pendulums. And since Penedulum don’t really need extra deck space, they can spam Link monsters as well since Pendulums are easy to get on the field. The only disadvantage is that Pendulums used for Link summons go to the graveyard, but that is remedied by using cards that put cards from your graveyard back into your hand, deck, or field. This is probably the best result for everyone without invalidating any other playstyle.
@Xvolve Forgot about that. Still, all the more reason why having just Pendulums being limited by Links is a good thing.
4:55 this change made me come back to the game and actually get excited to try link monsters. Being forced to use them ruined the game that had been established from the beginning, I’m so happy they took the paywall away from link monsters and made them more equal to other cards

as for cards that are both pendulum and another extra deck type, it would probably depend on how you summon it, so if you synchro summon it its summoned as it it were a synchro monster but if it were to be destroyed and sent to the extra deck to resummon it using the pendulum zones it would be counted as a pendulum monster.
Me and the boys literally use this rule and unofficial called it "Fools Rule" while waiting for April fool.

I just got back into yugioh and hated that Konami made these new cards and saw a lot of people who felt the same way in the TH-cam comments section but after watching some videos I actually kinda like these new cards and rules!! It adds a little more substance to the game 😁
Well it served a purpose. I was fine with it. I just dont like how yugioh players love to make decks that essentially make the game less about fun and back and forth and more about the most efficient way to end the game and win.

Links and master rule 4 are the reason I left the game, this revision is the reason I’m coming back and I’ve been gone for 4 years.
I didn't really have any problem with the introduction of Link monsters themselves. My issue was how they put a cap on decks that use other extra monster types. Now that this cap on Synchro's, Xyz's, and Fusion's has been romoved, I don't really have a problem with Link Monster's being their own extra deck style.
I'm currently trying to get back into casual yugioh after quitting when pendulums summon came. I tried coming back before but stop when I heard about Link monsters and its rulings and hated it so I avoided yugioh for 3 more years. And I finally think it's worth getting back into in casual dueling.

Great point on the under utilization of pendulum monsters. I believe Konami ideally wants all of the cards to be used and, allow players to use cards of their choice. This would allow creativity and fresh ideas to flourish. Still I believe Konami must allow the players to figure it out instead of creating new rules to check eveything.
_Except_ when players using the cards of their choice means not buying new cards.

i left yu gi oh 2019 as far as i can remember, and when i was back that thing about one extra deck monster zone like it never happened , so we r allowed to summon many extra deck monsters like in the beginning (except pendulum monsters sp summoned from the extra deck), so when was that one extra deck zone thing got cancelled ?

Oh?! With the lockdown and having a real hatred of the 2019 Link monster game mechanic, I'd pretty much given up playing Yu-Gi-Oh because it killed some of my favourite decks. I hadn't kept up with the news. This is brilliant! Looks like my Nordics and Six Samurai decks are playable again :)

I left yugioh when links came out because my deck was already optimized for my dueling style and I did not want to have to try and rework my deck. That would have been a lot of time deconstructing a deck that I started working on since 2010. It took me 6 years to get that deck they way I wanted it. I'm happy master rule 5 or 4.5 will make my deck playable again but I'm also curious as to how links will now be played since they are confined to one space.

XYZ is their beginning of destruction in Yu-Gi-Oh
As if Link weren’t broken already. Original idea to slow down the game and make it a requirement to summons other extra deck boss monster got thrown out of the window when Link started to became Synchro Ver.2 and they pretty much runs by themself. They extra deck spam summon by themselves plus additional effects when conditions are meet with their point arrows.
The way to fix the game is simple and Konami does not want to do it just limit special summoning and re brand Extra deck summoning here how to fix it you get one Normal summon Two special Summons from hand and graveyard so if you special summon from you're hand then use a monster reborn you can no longer special summon on you're turn but if one of those cards were a tuner you can Extra Deck summon a synchro or just xyz then you can't extra deck summon anymore. Ritual summon can still be it's own thing so if you special summon twice for a ritual summon you can ritual summon.

@TGSAnime April 1st is a big marketing day in Japan. Lots of games, movies, and media in general comes out on that day. For us it's weird, but it's a completely normal and busy day for Japan.
In my opinion this is how Link Monsters should have been to begin with. But Konami is a company known for making stupid decisions.

The problem was it also utterly fucked all previous Fusion, Synchro, and Xyz decks unless they could also force in Link Monsters.
Luckily this mostly fixes that problem.
Link Monsters should have just been made as extenders, rather than powerful monsters to begin with. Ie. Introduce other extra deck summoning methods in the anime along side them during season 1.
I used to play YuGiOh until GX. Fast forward to a little over a year ago, I started playing Konami's Legacy of the Duelist just to ease back into the game. Ok... I already know Synchro but there is XYZ summoning. That was simple. Ok. Wow. Pendulum? That took me a bit to get used to. Fast forward to recently finding your channel and now there is link monsters? This game really evolved! This video brought me up to speed on the upcoming rule change. Thanks!

In the old days I had a combo. Goblinberg+Lv 4 = castell. Use castell’s detach two effect. Summon burner visor with detached materials. Equip to castell. I built an entire deck around that. It will finally get to see light.
Pendulums completely ruined the game for me and many others anyway, if there was a format that just banned link and pendulum i think yugioh would return lots of its lapsed players, this is a great video by the way, you have a cool personality and you explained the situation well to an old lapsed veteran like me and i might actually come back to the game i loved.
I totally agree. Everything was different before pendulums. It's almost like playing an entirely different TCG.
Hi, returning player here. I'm curious about before Master Rule 4 came out. When pendulums were new, was this a valid strategy to play?:
1. Use a deck full of 4 star pendulum monsters.
2. Summon them 1 by 1, or through pendulum summon. Eventually you have have a bunch.
4. If/when they die and go to extra deck, pendulum summon next turn to get all of them back.
5. Spam xyz summon monsters. Spam the xyz effects. The pendulums used as ammo go to extra deck.
6. Next turn, get all those used pendulums back on the field using pendulum summon.
Repeat steps 4, 5, and 6 over and over until
-duel finishes, or
-you run out of xyz monsters in your extra deck, or
-opponent destroys your spell pendulums which stops you from pendulum summoning and thus breaking the cycle.

No. Pendulum monsters only go back to your extra deck when destroyed by battle or effect. When used for an XYZ effect, they are sent to the graveyard. I think the strategy you laid out was the reason they decided to make them go to the graveyard in that circumstance.

@@TheJabics Let me emphasize that I meant SS two times per turn, not necessarily just 2 monsters. A 2 special summon limit a turn isnt going to change the game too much for the vast majority of decks operating within reason.
I haven’t played Yu-Gi-Oh! since tengu plant synchro was around. Imagine my surprise and confusion when I found out about link summoning. Then finding out how to link summon in the first video you posted , then having to go back to normal/ link summoning. 🤣

I played yugioh until synchro monsters. When i came back there was pendulum monsters and the game was so fast and the monsters were fucking strong. I liked Link summon, because i thought the game would become slower again. Now i checking on it again and they screw everything up again. Wish they had stopped after synchro...
Honestly i preferred the og link rules just limiting how many link monsters can be connected at a time the max number of link monsters should be 4 by the extra deck zone 1 and max 3 under the main link monster if it has 3 arrows pointing to your side of the field which would be extremely rare and regularly there would be only 2 arrows or 1. When it came to their effects obviously release regular monsters that do those effects not link monsters. Idk how the effects of a link monster transferred. If it was like the electric current example where the effect of the extra deck zone link monster carried it to the next link monster and the next carries both its effect and the jr link monster’s effect into the zones it controls too. Regardless i think it should be obvious they dont pass. The effects of a link monster only go to the 1 zone they control and does not transfer at all. Also for link monsters with more powerful effects they need to have either a much higher link number to make them harder to summon or there effect also go to the opponents side of the field. Depending on how strong said effect is determines the arrows. I think balance was not something they stressed in yugioh link which is why it got so bad. If link monsters were meant to slow the game down they should have been treated as such. A means to an end result.

They should update Legacy of Duelist Link evolution in steem with rule because isn't fair that only that game is the last updated isn't available in more easily platform as Steen or Google play/app store
I believe they announced the game would be updated April first too so maybe
It's already implemented in the game since it launched.
