When a Maytag was a Maytag. The last of the double helical transmission machines. When I finally bought a Maytag it had the orbital transmission and it was a nice machine but there really wasn’t any comparison. This is the legend.
@@LlyleHunter thanks Bruce. I have the orbital also. There is nothing like the original. I had this one and I had to get it again. I have it in the harvest gold the older one 1980 but I wanted the one I had with my mother. I know it's crazy but it's just something I wanted to acquire. I think I'm regressing lol.
I know the feeling. So many things that I buy just because my parents or grandparents had something from the brand in their house. My clock radio on my nightstand that wakes me up to the local big band era station is an RCA brand radio (recently made) because my grandparents always had RCA in their home for everything. It’s the only thing that I have from RCA but it’s nice to have it to wake up to in the morning.

I have the LA612 model, one step down from this one. It's a 1987, I bought the matching washer & dryer 10 years ago for $100. I did have to replace the damper pads, otherwise no repairs. @@smitastic7030 absolutely and these machines just keep going and going and strong. I can't believe how strong this machine is compared to what's out there.
Excellent performance Pete ! Love how the Maytag's make the water rock when they get going. For as simple as the power fin is it performs very well. There's no pretentiousness with a Maytag.
This past year has been an eye-opening education on older agitator washers. I never knew what a Maytag helical vs an orbital was. Now, after listening to yours, I'm grooving to the beautiful music it produces.🤗.
Nothing like the sound of the Pitman transmission working its magic. BTW, the machine is slightly underfilling. The water level should be slightly above the top row of drain holes in the basket. A very easy, simple fix.
@@muziklvr7776 yes I noticed that also that it could’ve used a bit more water. Now it didn’t do it all the time it did it sometime so that leads me to believe that there might be a little clog in the air line perhaps? Awesome, you've found yourself an LA712. I like those because it's close to being a fully programmed Maytag. Beautiful washer and it did a great job washing the laundry!
I wish I could purchase one of these beautiful vintage washers e specially the old GE filter flows that I grew up with. I am jealous that you have these machines.
@@normangussman8133 that's OK when the time is right you'll find one you just have to keep looking. some of these machines become available when the owner leaves the house and a new couple buys the house and they find it there. Is this hooked up in your kitchen? How did you do that? What lines did you use? I’m going to be needing to hook my machine up somehow in my kitchen so I would really appreciate the feedback!
@@Goldenwoodz hi you have to buy the faucet adapter if you go to the hardware store or Home Depot or you could order it on Amazon and it has the snap faucet adapter one end of it goes to the end of the hose, the other snaps under the faucet piece that you put at your sink. It's not expensive but that's what I use. I also used a Y adapter. To combine the hot and cold water, but you don't need to do that.
