    Having grown up with mostly Whirlpools when I finally got my Maytag in 1995 that I had in my basement at the same time that I had my Whirlpool Supreme something that irked me about the Maytag but never caused a problem was that the agitator attached by a screw on the side of the agitator instead of inside of the agitator in the center where it was away from the washing action. It took me aback at first but it never caused any damage to any fabrics. I just thought that it was odd. I loved having both machines and all these years later I still have two sets of machines in my house. It gives me a sense of confidence that if a unit breaks I can still do laundry while waiting for the broken machine to be fixed.

      I absolutely get that. I love having a back up. That's why I just bought another Miele dryer after I had the set and sold it. I don't want to rely only on the speed queen dryer. What's nice about the Miele as you could plug it into any outlet and it doesn't have to be in your laundry room it could be in the hallway. It could be anywhere you want it to be because it runs on regular electricity and doesn't need venting.

      What really pisses me off is Whirlpool who now owns Maytag has decided to discontinue manufacturing replacement parts for the old machines that were manufactured by Maytag when it was it's own independent company. Try looking for a transmission or motor. The parts websites now say "discontinued no longer available". They want us to go out and buy that HE junk that does not get your clothes clean.

      @@ericknoblauch9195 absolutely I looked for a spare motor. I couldn't find one it's terrible. It must kill them that the Maytag machines still run.

    Oh the lovely sound of an orbital spin-drain! This is one of my earliest memories as a kid, sitting in the kitchen and then hearing the machine switch to spin drain. I would always run to the back hall and watch the water drain into the utility sink while listening to that wonderful sound. I really love that machine. Ours isn't quite as top of the line as yours is. Ours is the LAT8705AAE, so it has real knobs and no speed select other than the cycle selector, because the 8705 series had the two speed motor.

    Such smooth performance. By way of comparison the Whirlpool direct drives sounded like jackhammers. I liked having both and selected each machine for different loads of fabrics and different cycles but the Maytag always represented luxury in my mind. However in the end the Whirlpool outlasted the Maytag in that house by more than a decade. In fact both of us have now moved out of that house and when my former moved out nine years ago the Whirlpool was still there and twenty three years old.

      Wow, that's really surprising. When I do my searching on Facebook marketplace or craigslist or let go the only vintage machines that are still surviving that I've seen are the Maytags, there are still plenty of direct drives there, but the Maytag's are even older.

    I think that the white agitator that came with the machine suits this machine and the shape of the tub in the machine better due to the width of the fins on the agitator. I think that it gives it slightly better circulation overall without being too vigorous.

    My first was Kenmore (direct drive) then Whirlpool (direct drive) Maytag, then Speed Queen. My experience with the Maytags is that they're awesome machines. The spray rinses on the earlier Maytags wasn't my cup of tea because they're too long (I don't like long spray rinses) but their wash cycles are great.

    • @petermaz701
      @petermaz701  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@erg844 OK I don't understand why you don't like long spray rinses the longer the better, people would kill for a spray rinse that they're not getting any spray rinses in the new machines. Both Maytag and GE were the only ones that had the one minute spray rinses, the whirlpools were not even close nor Speed Queen.

    • @erg844
      @erg844 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@petermaz701 I'm not a fan of long spray rinses because they don't make sense to me. Since I grew up during the "Direct Drive" period I became a fan of the shorter spray rinses because to me they're more direct and straightforward. So, I'd take the shorter spray rinses from Speed Queen, Whirlpool and Kenmore any day.

    • @petermaz701
      @petermaz701  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@erg844 OK if that's your logic, but to me the more water, the better rinsing and spraying the clothes after the rinse period makes absolutely no sense. It should be after the wash period generously.
      Why the direct drives started spraying after the rinse cycle so that you could spray rinse out the soil fabric softener makes no sense. Another Quirke that the direct drives have that I never cared for.

      @erg844 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@petermaz701 Let's just agree to disagree. The bigger picture here beyond spray rinses (whether before the rinse cycle or after the rinse cycle) is that your clothes are getting cleaned. That's what's more important. I only stated my opinion on why I'm not a fan of the long spray rinses that's all.

    Newer machines have built-in lint filters. Reverse action on water pump. Lint is expelled when pump starts emprying.

      @@kimberleytui179 keep in mind. This is a better way of not plugging up the drain line in your house. For example, in my house, these machines drain into a stump pump, rather having the lint go into the pump and the possibility of clogs I could just take the lint and put it in the garbage pail.

  • @dynatrak
    @dynatrak 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    That blue agitator with extra fins seems quite effective to me, and I think it looks great in the LA9804. Looks like the brake is getting a bit tired, like the one on my A106. I wonder if that would make any difference if the tub didn't index?

      @@dynatrak Thank you and thank God, the flu is behind me. There was no indexing in the rinse portion because there was more water in the tub, and the towels were free to move around.

    Nice video. Please excuse me if someone has already asked this, but I wonder what would happen if you put an orbital washer agitator in a helical washer, and vice versa.
    Are they even compatible?

    • @petermaz701
      @petermaz701  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DeansWasherVideos no it's a great question. The Helical Powerfin Agitator is a bit larger than the agitators in the orbitals. I believe that the orbital transmission would be straining more using the larger Agitator base. The opposite is true if you put an orbital Agitator in the helical transmission it would not be as effective, but being that some of them have top fins that might help even out.

    • @DeansWasherVideos
      @DeansWasherVideos 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@petermaz701 great, yes, I realize that, I was just curious about how it would look on both sides on a very light load, I assume the taller fin would be very powerful on the faster agitation and the slimmer fins would actually be quite acceptable on smaller loads for helical. Thanks so much for answering. D.
