Same on both choices; I miss NTT Kory characterization and arc (her philosophy on violence was more complex- she doesn’t shy from war but importantly always prefers peace & eventually decides not to kill anymore. She never fights with her friends, and her innocence isn’t naïveté but a belief in loving w/o cynicism). Post-Wolfman at least Post-Crisis, that characterization got flattened to “kind warrior w/ anger issues” & it’s annoying
Also one thing about her appearance i love (that sadly gets nerfed the more modern we get), is how tall she is. I think her and Cyborg were the tallest in the Titans, Dick was definitely shorter than her. I love her tall she is, its so nice to see a tall woman still treated as beautiful and desirable!
In my honest opinion, her NTT/80s design is wayyyy better than any other design she’s gotten. She’s also had more covered up looks in the 80s teen titans run like that one look where she has the tank top and pants on and even that manages to be better than everything on this list besides the original
For real! I think her poofy big 70s/80s hair looks the best, it gives alien vibes cause it's so voluminous and the comet trail it leaves looks cool. There's already so many straight haired characters, bring her back!
Maybe it's because CN TT was my intro to the TT, but I love her CN design! It's warm, expressive, and still built enough that her strength is fully believable.
I want one that leans more into the space alien warrior even more. Some of the designs looked inspired by DBZ and I want them to really lean into it but not too hard and mix it up with more Red Sonja. More armored, almost like how the 80s depicted a female barbarian but more covered up
I LOVED this in depth analysis of WHY the costume works/doesn’t work and you explained the whole idea of the character so concisely. Please make more of these with some more characters!
My personal favourite is the NTT one, I feel like it really captures the core aspects of her personality and overall being. Kory is very expressive with her emotions but also with her sexuality, it's something I love so much about her that I feel no one;s managed to do right in decades. She LIKES showing skin (other than it being practical due to her powers) and in NTT and later stories it felt very normal and not oversexualizing, yeah she's sexy and hot but in a very different way from the New 52, where her sexuality is purely for fanservice rather than being part of her character.
Most of her main designs you mentioned are among the best I think. NTT, 2015 and Rebirth are probably my top 3. Though I'll always have a soft spot for most of the TV series designs. Storm's my 2nd favorite Marvel character behind Spider-Man and StarFire's probably top 10 for DC so I think you for sure got good taste in superheroes!
My biggest complaint with her design is that they never drew her with a navel in the Teen Titans cartoon. It's just one of those small details that have to be done in my mind.
I never knew about the Red Sonja inspiration, but you really do see it in the Perez art! It seems the warrior aspect had gotten lost over the years and the metal elements of the design got lumped in with the alien aspect. The traditional looking bracers became sleek and shiny, more sci-fi. I never realized I liked them until you pointed them out. Anyways, great video. I know you’re literally named StormKori HQ, but it’d be cool to see some more character design analysis.
injustice 2 starfire is the one i think about now as the best because imo its the closest to the og one when it comes to everything. its kinda what i hope another live action starfire will look like one day.
As a kid Starfire had me the first time I saw the original comic book character . She was tall ,strong , a dark skinned red maned proud to be Alien warrior princess and so different than what was going on in the comics at that time. On each version since she becomes more whitewashed and dumbed down for kids eventually resulting in the recent Teen Titans Go parody of the Alien valley girl fish out of water
wow crazy that Starfire was partially inspired on a puertorrican dancer, i´ve always got that vibe from her, to be more specific i´ve always found her look alike Angela Bofill, a puertorrican/cuban singer from the 70s and 80s, especially her beautiful facial features
My personal favorite is the 3rd most iconic look, her reboot look within the Old 52 line. It’s sleek, sexy, and doesn’t have TOO much coverage, but also doesn’t have too little like the New Teen Titans look. It’s right in the middle. I also love her cartoon look as a close second.
aside from new 52 imo any depiction where she has big long fiery curly hair and solid green eyes without pupils is the best look they can go for, it stays true to the original while also giving her unique and iconic features
As someone who does like Kori in New 52, I agree her main outfit needs some tweaks for it to be great. I know Kori's whole thing is showing a lot of skin for her powers but DAMN. I mean, as a fellow Starfire simp I was eating that up but- I personally like a lot of the more casual outfit they gave her in New 52, they all look gorgeous on her (kinda, the bikini outfit was eh) but I think the main suit needed something to pull it all together and make it look better. I think a way to do this would be to connect the collar and the plates attached to her chest, making it more of a revealing crop top then a collar and a bit covering her chest. I don't know, that's just my opinion :) I still love her in Red Hood and the Outlaws though.
Honestly the story of the Teen Titans and especially Koriand’r is so good in my eyes that it deserves it’s own Spiderverse or Arcane like animated TV show or set of movies. I hope that DC can create something like that in the future. That and Dick and Kori give me alittle bit of Gwen and Miles vibes especially after the recent movie. Point is if they were to make something along the lines of Spiderverse and Arcane for the Titans or Starfire, they better make it as deep as those two stories are. Especially if you use Arcane as an example.
The Teen Titain CN design is probably my favorite. I do, admittedly, like the New 52 design-wise. But her perosnality however wasn't really it. Starfire in my opinion whould be more cheery, curious, and playful. The Rebirth is also up there too. The dark pruple just really works.
As a fan of Kory from DAY ONE (she was my dream girl as a 10 yr old boy reading NTT), I agree that Rebirth Version is the best. I would love it 100% if they had've echoed the original shape of the boobage covering from the NTT costume, with the white/grey design on her purple giving it a deeper 'v' rather than the small 'v'. I HATE the live action version of Starfire. Top to bottom, written on the page translated to picture, full stop. They messed up with the hair color, her iconic orange skin, the fire instead of bolts,... I didn't watch every season, so I don't know if she flies, but I'm sure they didn't do the hair contrail right either. The actress they chose was fine. They just didn't have the right character on the page or in the execution of her look. But as a fan of the original NTT, I have MANY problems with the live action characters. All of them.
I love when ppl go in deep with why they like or dislike designs. Much appreciated! And when I get to the Live Action Starfire video, you will be vindicated muhahaha
I started with StarFire in her 1980s look. I was like 6 reading all these old school comics and Starfire was one of my favorites in DC. Look before I was interested in Wonder Woman. Always liked Starfire. Thanks to my Mom's friend giving me all his old DC comics when I was a kid. And read them all. SO back in the 80s I was always into reading comics at a very young age.
Her Justice League Odyssey design is easily my favorite. It's the perfect mix between her NTT and more modern designs and the gold accents work amazingly. It also really gives the regal warrior vibes that I feel the modern versions often lack
Not that I’m not into dc comic superheroes, moreso on a casual consumption and I’ve seen some of the teen titans animated series, but I was drawn into this video just because of your sheer enthusiasm for starfire! I will subscribe :)
Look I don’t read comics, but goddamn I didn’t know they got down like they did with that new 52 outfit lmao. That’s crazy for what I assumed were all just aimed at kids for the most part
Personally I love all of Starfires designs, even get new 52 design!❤ To me, I'd make her 52 design be completely made of fire like a super nova, so only the bits of her clothing would show up with her eyes and silhouette being visable; but that's just a design choice I'd make.❤
I like the classic star fire design it's beautiful ❤️. I think the titans design was trying to combine the classic and cartoon designs together. I actually like that one it isn't that bad especially the cover art
Not sure if it’s her because she’s on earth or all tamaranians but she needs her skin exposed, the more skin that’s exposed the more energy she can absorb or along those lines
My favorite for adult Kory (or at least early 20s Kory) is her 2015 one bc I think it had the best balance btwn Kory’s sexual liberation while not overly sexualizing her the best (when most of Kory previous outfits drifted a bit too much into over-sexualization). However the Rebirth one (esp for a late 20s Starfire) has definitely grown on me and it is my favorite of her one pieces (2018 JLO, 2021 TTA, and 2023 current I don’t love lmao) Though 2003 CN Starfire might be my overall favorite just for nostalgia lmao. Great job with the video!
TBH I didn't like The New 52 as much everybody was giving so much backlashing so Thank The Stars they change it so The Artists can do whatever they want just as long they don't make it unappealing.
My favorite one piece design of Starfire’s outfits is the Justice League Odyssey outfit. It isn’t just straight purple. The golden shoulder guards, collar, gauntlets and at the outline of the main outfit and the emeralds embedded give a neat contrast to the purple, which in color theory represents mystique royalty and eroticism.
I don't mind as long as her lines are predominantly straight and parallel, with sharp angles and low ribcage, low waist line and hips, with big torso, wider breast, long limbs with tense, yet lean muscular appearance, large facial proportions, while still possessing an innocent look. In real life, she would more like Ana Hickmann, less like Gal Gadot.
I read the current Titans series and complained on artist Nicola Scott's Instagram that Starfire isn't allowed to be sexy anymore. Her costume has a diamond shaped boob window in the design but you can tell DC said color it purple to close it up and she's drawn much less endowed from every angle. Nicola Scott liked the post so I think she secretly agrees with me. She's no stranger to drawing cheese and beef cake.
Interesting! it's always cool connecting with creators (when they're not being assholes lol) As for the current design, I dig the ponytail but the outfit itself leaves a lot to be desired. Even so, that Tales of the Titans cover that she did was 👌👌👌👌👌
I still like better her original design by Peréz, because he didn't design just HER appearance, that's consistent Tamaranian design, EXCEPT for Black Star, that rejected the people that rejected her.
@@Gemini053 Sorry for the mistake neither of them followed the precise naming here, not even they Tamaranian names, with vowels in the place of the apostrophes.
Well from what was told in volume 3 of teen titans and then titans as well Cory menshioned that on her planet she and her people try to not wear clothes at all(because they get their powers from sun and exposing to sun by absorbing light through bare skin makes them more powerful and alive so basically they'll die if they won't get enough sun on their skins) and this explains why she wears revealing outfits all the time, sometimes on earth she sunbathes without any clothes to keep being alive other times she wears as many clothes as she can.
I feel the 2016 Teen Titans Rebirth design is by far the best looking one; the Cartoon Network version is the second best. Also the newer versions where you can see pupils are an improvement which includes both of those.
I think the starfire from the recent nightwing run has become one of my favorite, def very blk coded and I love it And ntm on new 52 version is it functional (no) does the outfit make any sense (no) is it cunt!(well yes!)
I'll always like classic comic version of Kory but shes kinda problematic. It got annoying for awhile that her whole life revolved around Robin/Nightwing and they didnt develop her decently until the 90s came around.
I like every design of Starfire. She's probably the hottest comic character ever, and she's also an interesting character, not just eye candy. Rebirth would be my least favorite but I'm not really knocking it. It's just a little bland. Lot's of modern comic character designs have become bland and it's not just Starfire. Speaking to modern designs in general, it's like they are trying to inject some sort of realism into a character design but I love the escapism of comics. I'm not looking for how someone would realistically go into battle. Especially characters whose skin is better than armor anyway. This approach tends to fail anyway because they only ever go halfway. I prefer the over-the-top look on superheroes. Let loose with a design and have fun with it and not worry about how it might look in the live action movie one day.
I stopped liking the cartoon network one when I found out about the comics not because the comic was "sexy" but because her noticable black features from the comics were erased. I'd hate to be petty, but I know what I saw.
Well while I do agree with you about the new 52 but given that she draws her powers from sun light which increases in strength based on how much sunlight she absorbs. Which is why when the Teen Titans went to Starfire's planet her brother who was fighting in the war was butt ass naked. So for the whole explanation of how her powers work I can understand the New 52 version but my favorite is the one and only original outfit from the 80's. As for the rebirth well given that her powers are stronger the more sun light her skin can absorb she would never wear that much as since her people are okay with public nudity.

She LIKES showing skin (other than it being practical due to her powers) and in NTT and later stories it felt very normal and not oversexualizing, yeah she's sexy and hot but in a very different way from the New 52, where her sexuality is purely for fanservice rather than being part of her character.
...Ive always loved the OG Starfire.. found a great variant recently and had to have it 😊
Most of her main designs you mentioned are among the best I think.
Thanks, you man of culture
My biggest complaint with her design is that they never drew her with a navel in the Teen Titans cartoon. It's just one of those small details that have to be done in my mind.
Navel was just too sexy for CN Kori lol
@@StormKoriHQ Although Supergirl was allowed to have one in the DCAU
In my opinion the classic look is the best.
Born 2006, the animated version is still my favourite and I think it's the best because it's really god damn simple.
How and when was she white washed?
White washed?
wow crazy that Starfire was partially inspired on a puertorrican dancer, i´ve always got that vibe from her, to be more specific i´ve always found her look alike Angela Bofill, a puertorrican/cuban singer from the 70s and 80s, especially her beautiful facial features
Some people claim that Starfire was inspired by Iris Chacon
Her "Titans United" look wins for me, and honestly I'm fine with her having link hair sometimes over red/orange.
I love new 52 design. To be quite honest I love all her designs, more covered up, or giving full on fan service she always looks good!
I just discovered your channel and idk how but my fav character from dc is starfire and from marvel is storm and i just discovered your channel
Welcome! 🥳
The Teen Titain CN design is probably my favorite. I do, admittedly, like the New 52 design-wise. But her perosnality however wasn't really it. Starfire in my opinion whould be more cheery, curious, and playful. The Rebirth is also up there too. The dark pruple just really works.
I noticed in TT2003 her character sheet has a belly button but for some reason it's missing in the cartoon
Censors probably made them get rid of it
I did see the OG version of her outfit once or twice at a con or two Nice job
I liked her "Pirate Captain" look when she was on the Outsiders. "Despite" being fully covered, it leaned in to the warrior aspect very well.
Technically, her designs and hair in the NTT would be more 70s trend than 80s. She debuted in 1980, yes. But her design was done in 1978 and 79
I started with StarFire in her 1980s look.
Thank you! Much appreciated :)
Interesting video. I’m looking forward to the video about Anna Diop as Starfire
That's gonna be a big one! Literally and figuratively 😂
80s Starfire has the best design
At StormKori HQ, we dive deep !!
Into Starfire's Golden Sonja bosom !!
Look I don’t read comics, but goddamn I didn’t know they got down like they did with that new 52 outfit lmao. That’s crazy for what I assumed were all just aimed at kids for the most part
Personally I love all of Starfires designs, even get new 52 design!❤ To me, I'd make her 52 design be completely made of fire like a super nova, so only the bits of her clothing would show up with her eyes and silhouette being visable; but that's just a design choice I'd make.❤
Ultra Instinct Kori
I like the classic star fire design it's beautiful ❤️. I think the titans design was trying to combine the classic and cartoon designs together. I actually like that one it isn't that bad especially the cover art
Very nice video my dude! Well-paced, structured, narrated, and I agree with a lot of what you said here. Great job!😊❤👍🏽
Thank you! I'm working on a couple more as we speak
Not sure if it’s her because she’s on earth or all tamaranians but she needs her skin exposed, the more skin that’s exposed the more energy she can absorb or along those lines
Being living solar batteries is fun
As a Gen X teen comic book reader, classic '80s Starfire for the win, but I do also love the look of the animated Teen Titans
Shoutout to Gen X, I'm lowkey jealous y'all got to have her first lol
@@StormKoriHQ I hate to brag, but we also get the cool label with the X in it, like the X-Men 😉
We at Kori enjoyers. She’s no Orc, but we adopt her into the tribe
Lol much appreciated from the Lord of all Orcs
My favorite for adult Kory (or at least early 20s Kory) is her 2015 one bc I think it had the best balance btwn Kory’s sexual liberation while not overly sexualizing her the best (when most of Kory previous outfits drifted a bit too much into over-sexualization).
However the Rebirth one (esp for a late 20s Starfire) has definitely grown on me and it is my favorite of her one pieces (2018 JLO, 2021 TTA, and 2023 current I don’t love lmao)
Though 2003 CN Starfire might be my overall favorite just for nostalgia lmao. Great job with the video!
I like to think Teen Titans 2003 Starfire grows to look more like her classic self.
give her her curly hair.
TBH I didn't like The New 52 as much everybody was giving so much backlashing so Thank The Stars they change it so The Artists can do whatever they want just as long they don't make it unappealing.
For me the cartoon version of teen titans is what made them more popular.
I need to read me some Starfire. Heck, I think I've been WRITING a "Starfire" this whole time...
The old teen titians show have the same issues the new teen titans show had😂
Starfire is my best girl. 💜 I wish series would make a return. It's been 20 years since the show first aired.
Two words: Cindy Crawford
Your opinions are factually correct. /hj
Also your character designs are sick! /g
The reason that the CN Starfire is the most cosplayed is because it's the most...cooperative with physics
also i think the new 52 starfires outfit is ehh BUT her powers and hair like everything from the waist up is good in my opinion
W honesty about the art
Hey that was the Sailor Moon transformation at the end
I read the current Titans series and complained on artist Nicola Scott's Instagram that Starfire isn't allowed to be sexy anymore. Her costume has a diamond shaped boob window in the design but you can tell DC said color it purple to close it up and she's drawn much less endowed from every angle. Nicola Scott liked the post so I think she secretly agrees with me. She's no stranger to drawing cheese and beef cake.
Interesting! it's always cool connecting with creators (when they're not being assholes lol)
As for the current design, I dig the ponytail but the outfit itself leaves a lot to be desired. Even so, that Tales of the Titans cover that she did was 👌👌👌👌👌
I still like better her original design by Peréz, because he didn't design just HER appearance, that's consistent Tamaranian design, EXCEPT for Black Star, that rejected the people that rejected her.
***Blackfire
@@Gemini053 Sorry for the mistake neither of them followed the precise naming here, not even they Tamaranian names, with vowels in the place of the apostrophes.
Someone who's able to thirst without being creepy while rightfully criticizing voyeuristic design choices???? Maybe God does exist
You're qualified because you're entitled to your opinion mostly
I love your Chanel, U bring fresh air to the comic book community
Well from what was told in volume 3 of teen titans and then titans as well Cory menshioned that on her planet she and her people try to not wear clothes at all(because they get their powers from sun and exposing to sun by absorbing light through bare skin makes them more powerful and alive so basically they'll die if they won't get enough sun on their skins) and this explains why she wears revealing outfits all the time, sometimes on earth she sunbathes without any clothes to keep being alive other times she wears as many clothes as she can.
You're telling me she doesn't have pupils, all this time? My life is a lie lol
I feel the 2016 Teen Titans Rebirth design is by far the best looking one; the Cartoon Network version is the second best. Also the newer versions where you can see pupils are an improvement which includes both of those.
Honestly, any version where Starfire doesn't have big hair loses points with me. If there's no volume then it ain't right.
Big hair supremacy all day
She is still a snack
On nom nom
2003 Starfire is the best ❤
I say as long as she has the purple costume and the orange/red hair, that’s all she needs.
Starfire is beautiful
I liked her red fire blast over the green fire.
Give Starfire her curls and contrail back DC
New 52 doesn’t even feel like starfire😭
I think the starfire from the recent nightwing run has become one of my favorite, def very blk coded and I love it
And ntm on new 52 version is it functional (no) does the outfit make any sense (no) is it cunt!(well yes!)
WELL she was my firstfictional crush as a kid so
The characters you show at the 1 minute mark that you created, where's a link to where you published them before?
I'll always like classic comic version of Kory but shes kinda problematic. It got annoying for awhile that her whole life revolved around Robin/Nightwing and they didnt develop her decently until the 90s came around.
can you rate ravens iconic outfits
only one works: george perez's version aka THE ORIGINAL bka THE REAL, cause he created her. BOOP
I agree. Characters like Starfire can be both interesting and eye candy. They don't have to be just one or the other.
I stopped liking the cartoon network one when I found out about the comics
not because the comic was "sexy" but because her noticable black features from the comics were erased.
I'd hate to be petty, but I know what I saw.
She such a dark skin brown bhaddie starfire is a godess💯❤️🤎💜💚.
2003 Starfire is the best, both in design and character.
Still an OG Starfire fan. But my girl is still Supergirl.
I feel a little frustrated looking at the new 52 design and I don't know why?
Well while I do agree with you about the new 52 but given that she draws her powers from sun light which increases in strength based on how much sunlight she absorbs.
Which is why when the Teen Titans went to Starfire's planet her brother who was fighting in the war was butt ass naked.
So for the whole explanation of how her powers work I can understand the New 52 version but my favorite is the one and only original outfit from the 80's.
As for the rebirth well given that her powers are stronger the more sun light her skin can absorb she would never wear that much as since her people are okay with public nudity.
So does Superman, he should go bucknaked and call himself Flasherman
@@youtubestudiosucks978 superman's sun absorbtion doesn't require skin exposure Starfire's people do.
That's the difference.
And they already had Flasher man that was Starfire's brother,😂
@@fido2644 no, you're just being sexist because you feel uncomfortable seeing a half naked adonis flash everything in your face.
Dont be sexist, same rules apply cumdump facehole
you realize that’s just the excuse they use to depict her in such revealing outfits right? you’d think with the kind of technology the dc universe has they’d be able to make a fully covered protective suit that can still allow her to absorb just as much if not more sunlight than her actual skin, maybe even a layer that stores it too so even at night time she’s able to fuel herself. I don’t understand why writers feel the need to come up with excuses for female characters to show skin like why not just make it her choice to dress like that
@@ellibami5677 actually she has to pace her self at night she can't go all out like she does during the day, but she doesn't lose her super strength as that's relies on her muscle structure, only her star bolts rely on sun absorbtion.
But you are right it's an excuse, anyway my favorite Starfire is and always will be the original look.
And in the comics it's usually her choice as her people don't grasp the concept of modesty.
Which is why one comic she got into allot of trouble for public nudity, and Dick Grayson had to bail her out.
I’m the only one who like New 52 starfire
Not even lmao, you're actually in good like minded company.
New 52 is the hottest version.
I liked this character because I’m attracted to her, and I know she’s fictional, yet starfire is hot though, and attractive too🙂🔥🤤🫠.
As an artist I can understand why artist sexualise thier females the answer is that we don't do it for the fans ,it's because we design what we find good looking
