As a car user, I always respect the truck. I always give them space and never sit along side. If I have overtake, I make sure the other side is clear. Like he said, 40T vs 1T, I will always loose.

Years ago I was looking for a car to purchase and liked this little bronze coloured Gemini and when I went to visit my sister my brother-in-law who drives a truck told me he considered it was the most dangerous colour car to drive on country roads. He wanted to paint a Red Cross on the roof.😂 he was serious as he said you can’t see the car clearly because of the colour.

Yep. Especially when it’s rainy or foggy and no headlights on . The spray coming off the tyres makes it almost impossible to see some cars . Most of all the dark or silver ones

these videos are very good education - should have more of these.
i always avoid the 5m zone around the truck which people should avoid or just don't hang around - either speed up so the truck driver could see u or slowdown a bit and being visible in their mirrors. New trucks should have the indicator camera technology like the new KIA cars.

  • @dryroo
    @dryroo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Again well done mate. I too am wondering why these blind spots continue to exist. I would have thought it would become manditory to get more mirrors, but then only one set of eyes has more to look at. A previous viewer came up with some good stuff but no idea how usefull it would be. But if it saves lives or some of those exciting incidents. it has to be good. Maybe they should teach all drivers of everything, 'if you cant see the shiny side of my mirrors, I cant see you'

that one at Hexham / Taro is a common issue , trucks coming off the flyover and they don't see the small cars, it happened again two weeks ago to a small pink hatch back, spun her 180 degree and left her in the middle of the road. Lets hope they fix this when they do the bypass. I live here and when I come pass this fly over, I make sure I am in the Left lane.

A few questions of curiosity as I'm not from Australia and asking those in the know, but there are incredibly cheap mirrors that have an additional curved mirror on them to allow drivers to see the blind spot really easily, which totally avoids these situations of not seeing things alongside your vehicle, aren't these mirrors a requirement for trucks in Australia?
Aren't truck brakes rated for the loads they are carrying? They always seem to lock up and slide a longggg way before stopping. Volvo demonstrated their amazing braking systems many years ago which can stop even massively long truck trains incredibly quickly, why aren't these standard on all large vehicles these days?
Do the police ever do spot checks of vehicles in Australia and remove them from the road if they fail, especially in little to no tyre tread situations where they are always spinning out when going around corners? I'd assume there's a minimum depth of usable tyre tread in your laws.
In your car or truck driving tests is there a part where you have to show that you can maintain a vehicle to a roadworthy standard? This seems to be lacking in most countries driver testing, and I really don''t see why.
    Cheers.

Those "fish eye" mirrors only do so much besides, there are laws here in Australia that limit you on "projection" from a vehicle, then there's the idiot factor, that person that wants to sit in your blind spot. All Australian trucks have design rules that they must abide, those volvo demonstrations are just that, in a controlled environment and not withna full load. The police will only pull a truck over for a breach of road rules and not very often just for the fun of it, we have a department, that keep changing their name, that doe random checks on trucks but when you concider how many trucks are on the road, it's impossible to check every truck everyday. The time it takes to check one truck 20 more have gone by.

Almost no one knows how to drive in traffic and especially how to keep their distance from things that can hurt them.
A lot of the problem is the perception of safety given by supposedly safe vehicles and speed limits.
The perception of safety not only breeds complacency it actually attracts and reinforces bad driving habits .
The saying Bloody a Volvo Driver was not an insult to Volvo’s it was the fact that their perceived safety attracted atrocious drivers. So when I can I use the safest vehicle ever invented, A motorcycle. You have to do something really special to hurt more than just yourself on a motorcycle.

That’s a bit hard when traffic travels at around the same speed and you have four lanes of traffic to contend with, how the how can you not sit in the blind spots of any vehicle! At the end of the day the onus is on the driver and it’s his responsibility to move over safely.
I’ll tell you if I want to change lanes it’s a matter of planning then putting it into action, not to just indicate and move over. Seriously though some of these are drivers being complacent and are expecting everyone else to know what they are doing because of being in a truck.
