The only time I had issues with my knitting needles, wasn't actually with my knitting needles. I had a crochet hook in my bag and the men working security weren't sure what it was! You can travel with snips or any scissors less than 6cm.

I always take my wood interchangeable needles and mini foldable 3cm scissors when I fly and never have a problem with security

I do travel within Canada with Chiaogoo needles and no problem
