I cannot express how happy I feel finally finding someone who expresses the same feeling as me. I used this keyboard ever since I was 5 years old. That was 2006. Still use it to this day. It has used so much that all the keys are worn down and feel glossy, some of the icons are gone already.

Typing this comment in 2018 with this dell sk-8115! I laughed because this really is the best thing dell has made. My dad picked it up in 2004 along with a brand new dell desktop (with intel pentium and 1 gb ram of course) and used it for a few years. But then it sat in a box for nearly a decade before I went to college and I took it with me because I needed a keyboard. I've found myself not wanting to get rid of it and can't find a good reason to. I've used it myself for years and it still won't die. I was about to buy a new corsair keyboard for $100+ but I just can't say goodbye to this thing yet.
Now that I've realized how special it is, I am going to clean it and take extremely good care of this thing and try to squeeze all the life it can get. The spacebar is a little squeaky and I might need to re-lube some of the keys. But literally, there are no areas where the plastic rubbed off or faded, all the keys work and feel great, and aside from dust and random debris, there are no blemishes. Even the stickers on the bottom of it are still on and the serial number sticker has yet to be removed. And it's been with us for most of my lifetime.

It's the best keyboard for me hands down. This thing was (and still is) THE golden standard in terms of bundled keyboards, you'd see them literally everywhere, at school, at the office, at the receptionist desk of your dentist, etc... it was a cheap and simple design that felt damn good to type on compared to today's awful chiclet style keyboards. Disclaimer: I also own a wired full-size Apple keyboard from around 2013, I think it's decent, tactile feedback was pretty firm, but nowhere near comparable to this one. Apple used to make pretty good keyboards before introducing the ridiculous butterfly switch keyboards.
Not to mention the oversized space bar is something you can't just live without after using it for a while because it's just so comfortable to rest your thumb on. I've been trying mechanical keyboards for a while, even nearly bought the Logitech G610, but just couldn't get used to the tiny space bar.
This thing is a true classic, I've had them since the days of the floppy disk and I'm still using it on my latest-gen gaming PC. I've owned several that have since died of old age; I bought a brand new one just recently to replace my ailing one.

This version was manufactured in January 2007 by Darfon Electronics, as determined by the UL File Number of E206453 on the rear label. Additionally, the model of DFN-L100(B) is given below a MIC certification logo. The controller chip is sourced from Holtek.

I have the same 10 year old Dell keyboard and It is my favorite membrane keyboard. The curved keys are very comfortable to type on, and somehow very satisfying to type on. Plus it has drainage holes if you spill a water on it! I know these keyboards are still very common in schools and offices, but I guess there is a reason for that, because I haven't seen any signs of my keyboard dying yet. Its a shame that Dell discontinued these keyboards because the new Dell keyboards suck...

I'm still using mine and loving it. It is not mechanical nor backlit, but it just works and its pretty moddable. Changed the leds for blue ones, painted the shell black, removed the dell logo, covered the hand rest first in leather and later in carbon fibre vinyl. Love it.

I own 3 mechanical keyboards. I have yet to find one better than the Dell. I've been a system admin for years. At my last shop everyone was shocked when out of all the split, recessed keyboards they have I grabbed the Dell. I buy every one I find from thrift stores. I have an un-opened one in a box. Mark my words, in 20 years it will be worth a fortune.

I've had this keyboard since XP and all the way through Windows 10. I'm finally retiring it and getting a new Dell keyboard with some extra media keys on it. They make the best keyboards in my opinion and I can't justify spending close to 100 dollars on a "gaming" keyboard just to be able to have RGB lighting. The Dell ones always represent the best value and they always look the most stealthy.

I was using an RT 7D20 for about 10 years. Rather than spend an hour or two cleaning it, I first bought a cheap "gaming" keyboard, but it was hopeless so I ordered an expensive mechanical one, with clicky "Blue" keys. It was nice to use, but still much slower and less accurate than the old Dell. Then yesterday that fancy board just died, so it was off to my storage room to dig up the Dell. Now, after an hour of cleaning, it's working perfectly, much faster and more accurate. The partially cut away "Caps Lock" key is simply essential for my flying forefinger. This may be the last keyboard I'll ever need...

Ah the legendary Dell SK-8115 . A keyboard you always go back to when all hope is lost. The difference between mechanical keyboards and Dell SK-8115 , the Dell will always keep working. Your mechanical keyboard will develop a fault within couple of years. I salute this keyboard for being the best modern alternative with full travel keys, exceptional soft feeling, very smooth and linear to type. No silly LED's, no stupid media keys, no idiotic price tags and most of all no gaming tags. Sure it would be even better if each row is higher like in the old IBM M models but hey, can't have it all. The 6KRO is enough for any type of games. I noticed it's getting harder and harder to find these keyboard for sale. So R.I.P Dell SK-8115 and know you have special place in my heart.

+Rabble Rouser Mechanical keyboards are not more durable than this keyboard. If you prefer mechanical keyboards for typing then that's reasonable because most people do. But I have an sk8115 that has lasted something like 10 years. No problems with it whatsoever. Most mechanical keyboards won't last that long because there are so many moving parts. It's so, so easy to fuck up a mechanical switch. Fuck up pulling off a keycap? might snap your stem. Switches also jam and stick fairly often. On the other hand, this keyboard is nothing more complicated than a pcb and a sheet of flexible rubber.

    • @PoopPheast420
      @PoopPheast420 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Its not at ALL easy to damage a switch, I replace caps constantly and have never once broken a switch. A mech keyboard can be EASILY repaired by anyone with a soldering iron who isnt completely incompetent. These dell boards are great for those who are technologically illiterate though. My switches never jam or stick because I'm not filthy.

I have a similar dell keyboard and thought it was time to upgrade, so I went out to try some mechanical keyboards and was underwhelmed.
Actually it felt harder to type because the travel distance for the keys was shorter and the keys bottomed out quickly and my hands were getting tired.
I think whatever keyboard is best for you is whatever you're used to. And better gaming performance depends not on peripherals but your brain lol.

Ok I don't know why but this keyboard is everywhere, I had like 5 different versions of the Omnis them and I used them for pretty much my whole childhood. It's a good membrane keyboard but I started using a model m now.

They should come up with a new version. Probably just a bit heavier and with a more solid feel.

this maybe not the best keyboard but hey its durable, and also I got it for free when purchasing a monitor at my local Computer Store, the keyboard I got was Dell SK-8115 it still works fine but I plan to replace it with other keyboard because i need more sensitive more, softer key so I can type faster and precise

My Alt keys just stopped working after like 10 years of HEAVY HEAVY use. I'm legitimately afraid of the bullshit im gonna have to go through while buying a keyboard that has 8 million light modes.

Still using mine in 2021. The new Dell/HP keyboards now use flatter keys and they are terrible.

You guys can have your RGB Razer mechanical keyboard, but my Dell SK-8115 will always be the best. It is clicky, it feels nice, and it games perfectly.
