I have the Silhouette Cameo original and its now beginning to "die" but it has lasted about 10 years. The Joy you can use other pens...there are adaptors and tricks to using sharpies etc. I just got the Joy for Christmas. My thing about Cricut is, their software is it isn't very user friendly compared to the Silhouette Studio. The Protrait 3 looks nice, the Joy has been fun using too.

@@seaziv It was not that bad at all. I think the most difficult part was figuring out the right cutting settings to fit the project and vinyl I was using (force, passes, etc). It was trial and error, along with more TH-cam videos. I got mine on Amazon as a bundle, so I didn’t have to buy any extras.
I was debating on getting the Cricut Joy but I’ve been seeing so many people on social media complaining about Design space new update causing issues. I have the Maker but wanted a smaller more convenient machine for my small space. After seeing your video I think I may get the silhouette portrait 2. Thanks for showing

This video did change my mind on which to buy. I guess I'll be staying with Silhouette. The Portrait has a few more features that I like.
Hi! Not a silly question at all! The portrait cutting mat does fit an 8.5" x 11" paper, but the cutting area is only 8" wide, so basically you can't cut on the very edges of the paper, but it is perfect for working with letter sized materials. Hope that helps!
Can you use the portrait 2 with windows 11? That’s something else to consider, is your computer software compatible with either company. I’ve seen people selling the portraits after updates because the software is then an issue.
I bought a Portrait 3 and picked it due to the print and cut as well as the wider cut area. I skipped the joy as I wanted a portable machine with all the features of my cameo 4. The only down side is my portrait 3 doesn't have a working Bluetooth. Not sure why as my cameo 4 works very well under bluetooth.

Get it Silhouette you can use the the same tools as the cameo and silhouette has a great softwear I fell like Cricut trying to make more off people with separate tools that’s one of the reasons I own a silhouette
Thanks for a well done comparison video. I'm going for the Portrait 3, just waiting for a good deal. I have the original Cameo and sometimes the size means I don't use it. I'm hoping the Portrait 3 will give the ability to make those quick cuts without the hassle.
@@wulu3519 I love the Portrait 3. The technology has improved so much over the original Cameo and I love the small size. I haven't tried Bluetooth yet, but cutting is a dream. The Autoblade cut at first and then it didn't. But I use the deep cut 1mm blade adjust settings and cut paper. I haven't cut anything heavier than 120lb cardstock yet. The best advice I got was to test cut using a small design at the bottom of. the sheet and NOT remove the mat until I check the progress. I LOVE Silhouette over Circuit.
Good question! The Silhouette Curio is specifically designed for engraving (you can see more about that here: th-cam.com/video/prXHyq983HE/w-d-xo.html); however, I know you can engrave with the Portrait. I just have not tried it myself. I need to give it a try! Silhouette School has some posts about engraving with Portrait/Cameo that might be helpful for you. :)

Hi! I’m kinda late but I like the portrait a lot! I have the portrait 3 and I’m a beginner and it’s perfect for me. I think the cameo is just bigger (can cut larger quantity in one sitting) and you can have two different blades
Hmm... I have not actually tried this, but technically, I would say the answer is yes. You could definitely cut it on a mat, but I believe the Portrait's rollers are too wide for the narrow Cricut Joy Vinyl rolls. Hope that helps!
For the cricut joy I use different types of materials not just cricut smart vinyl and actually you can print and cut with cricut joy 🤷🏻♀️ I have a cricut joy and I liked it I just don’t like the cricut space that one is awful and I heard that the design for the silhouette and better then the cricut

silouette came out with a the portrait 3 that is matless, cuts 8” x 60 feet, multiple cutting blades, and a decent software.

Yes! You can cut vinyl with the Portrait! The bird heart design I cut is vinyl. :)
