I loved my 2008 Road Glide. I wanted to trade it in and got severely low balled. A newer used RG was running $25k-$30k. Not in my budget. Seems like HD forgot those of us who helped build the brand.
I just bought my first Harley Davidson, and its a heritage.. I love that it can be a cruiser around town but also be comfortable on long rides with the ability to have the bags and windshield on and off and floor boards it's a great bike if you enjoy all kinds of riding
Gr8 Choice my 2006 Heritage is all I wanted in a Harley this platform is outstanding and yours has many advantages over mine I believe you will be very pleased congrats
It’s a great machine. The biggest reason I went with the BMW R18 Classic was foot position. At my age (65) I can’t do forward controls any more. Anything beyond 30 minutes just wreaks havoc on my lower back.
I have tried all different Harleys. Heritage wins every time I’ve tried other makers tour ours but mss the Heritage o easy to ride fast enough for fun but safe and easiest bike to give a pillion to. Sad to admit but when my Deauville needs replacement it’s a heritage I’m looking for. Keep your ride’s rubber side down.
Yup, my favorite Harley was a 1999 Heritage Classic. The last of the evo’s. It couldn’t handle, brake or accelerate, but it delivered feedback that still is unsurpassed and unmatched today.
I just tallied up personalizing a Road King Special, from bike purchase price to engine upgrades, to exhaust, cam, tuner, to custom paint, wheels, etc… it’s about a $48k spend. Not concerned with selling the bike down the road, just enjoy personalizing my bike, and throwing down the miles.
I bought a new Harley in 2003. What I bought was the lowest priced new Harley that I could buy, a black XLH 883. It was $6911 out the door tax and title included. It now has 72,000 miles and has been a very good low maintenance motorcycle.
This video was so helpful, thank you for all you do. I usually do a lot of looking online at bikes and think that's the one for me, not thinking at the time it may not feel right. Your videos show me that the only way to be sure is by actually riding. Thanks again.
The Heritage and Road King have always been my absolute favorite Harleys to look at. Super Glide right behind it. But I'm spoiled with big ole fairings so I'd probably get a Road Glide if I ever went Harley again.
I’ve owned a cafe racer, 750 cruiser, R6, fz09, and a 1300 cruiser. Plus I’ve ridden probably 20 other bikes on test rides. I know test rides don’t give a lot of time, but out of everything I would buy another FZ09. With a $150 windscreen, $30 throttle “lock” for temporary cruise control, and whatever set of bags you want. You get good performance, great ride, comfortable, reliable, and cost effective.
I had a heritage rode it 55,000 miles I do own and live the road glide now .. my son owns a heritage… I love the heritage though it’s capable of long or short rides .. has cruise control detachable windshield bags for storage an is an extremely easy to handle motorcycle… I always highly recommend that model of bike because it ( in my opinion) is very easy to handle and still offers so much
So buy from Craig's list instead. Harley has a proven successful business model that even Polaris/Indian has attempted to duplicate. Powersports just sells dirt bikes and atvs for the most part now.
You won't find an "old school" dealership anymore. If you want a solid warranty and professional service,(most dealerships), you're looking at buying from a dealership. Unless you can find a late model, hopefully the particular bike you are hunting well maintained with low mileage and some warranty still left. Also if you are financing, it's easier to buy new than used, provided your credit isn't beat up.
The HD Heritage Classic is a nice ride. Me personally I’m more than likely going with the Indian Springfield Dark Horse which is more akin to the Road King, but I’m also 6 feet tall. The HD Heritage Classic or the Indian Super Chief would probably fit you better, based off your commentary on the cruisers you’ve ridden.
Doodle! I have a 2018 Heritage and I LOVE it!! They’re SO flexible. I am the opposite of you: 6’3”, and with their Tallboy seat, I’m more comfortable on my bike than a Roadking. And it’s more fun. I have both a tall sissy bar just to stick my helmet on and a Viking Tourpack for trips. Be a great bike for you!
First Harley was a Road King (2000), next was a Street Glide (2007), then Road Glide (2009), then another Street Glide (2013). Then I stopped riding for a few years. This time I wanted something a little more nimble than the big touring line, so I picked up a 2014 Fatboy Lo (FLSTFB) with less than 5k miles and a detachable windshield and leather bags. I'm replacing the bags with hard-sides and I couldn't be happier with how it handles. There's a time and place for big tourers, but then sometimes you just want to get on a lighter/shorter bike with a lower center of gravity so you can feel every twist, turn, and bump in the road. I absolutely love the feel of the Softail frame. Good luck on your decision.
I’m not an expert but from what I’ve heard (not sure if this has been covered here), the heritage frame is not a touring frame, the road king is. The road king is like the road and street glides. Another thing to consider is that if the heritage wheels are a true spoke wheel, it has a tube in it so you can’t just use a plug kit. I’ve had to plug my wheel a couple times and it was super easy. Unlike having to pull the heritage wheel and replace the tube. Some say just use the fix a flat slime but it says on bottle not for use on motorcycles. I’d say the road king is a better way to go between the 2. However you can handle the road Glide just fine.
My son is an HD Master Tech and used to be Lead Tech at Killer Creek. He’s now in Paducah Kentucky so I get to take a nice ride to get my bikes serviced since I’m in Woodstock
I agree with you about the heritage being the best looking bagger. That's a cool bike, just the right amount of retro vibes. You also looked pretty good on the bike with ape hangers and flames.
I bought my first HD in July 2023. I know I own a HD I have not even gotten to pick it up yet, waiting on parts. 1997 HD Road King with 14,500 miles on it. I am hopping to pick it up at the end of Oct.
The Heritage is a very good choice for a touring bike if you don't want to deal with the extra weight or suspension height. You will hear, "you can lower the road king." But you loose suspension travel, you will be scraping floor boards sooner, and compromising ride comfort.
Bought a new Road glide this year, 2nd Road glide I’ve owned. I went away from touring bike for several years but was able to retire earlier than I thought so I will use it for actual touring.
I bought my 2003 100th Anniversary Heritage in 2014 and I still have it. It's a wonderful bike and I've taken a few long trips with it and I can tell you, it never disappoints. Comfy and pretty. You want pretty also. I'm glad to see that you like the Heritage.
I said it before, and that road King you had in Florida is my dream bike. But before our fell in love with the Road King I was in love with the Heritage. The Road King is on a different frame and supposedly is a better long-distance cruiser. But the heritage is really nice too.
I remember your moment of questioning if you could / would be able to continue to make motoblogs seems you made the right choices ..very good videos coming from you good job very informative while being entertaining😎
I ended up picking up a nightster, it's one of the cheapest to get new, you have to spend a little more for bags, but it's blacked out and it's fast and it handles better than most of the other Harleys. I'm pretty sure you could flat foot it too.
That Heritage looks amazing! I love that color too. I have little doubt you'll get many miles of enjoyment out of it. I just bought a 2015 Ultra similar to that wine colored one you were looking at. So far I love it!
That Dealership must be part of a Dealer Group their prices were VERY High (i'm a retired Harley Service GM) and there are still dealers who sell at MSRP, you just have to find them, could be a fun video, find a dealer selling MSRP pick a bike fly to that dealer and ride your new bike home.
Got my first and last Harley ( my bucket list bike) 05 Heritage Softail..6500.00. Enjoy it...slowly making it what I want...but yeah, you try to trade at a dealer, you will get seriously lowballed. I'm keeping this one.
Hey Doodle, great review of a factory dealership warehouse. You can tell now that you are more confident & seeking out more comfort features to enhance your riding experiences. Loved your insight. Keep doing what you love. Cheers ✌️🏍💜
In April of 2020, I got a new Street Glide Standard for just over $20K, matte black, and added S&S pipes and LED lighting, which nowadays would be highway robbery. 😅
Have an 18 heritage and really like it. Light and easy to handle. Why struggle with a heavier bike when its so comfy and capable too. Also have a 385 lb versys 300 for putt'n around. Life is good.
Went from a Harley to a Goldwing to an Indian Roadmaster. 66 seasonal miles later, I have no regrets. The only thing I had to do is put on a new and better made aftermarket regulator.
@@blockocheese9730 definitely depends on the dealer. I’m in California and they hiked the prices up like crazy during COVID. When I was in the market for a sportster they were selling for 10,999 with ABS. The dealer in the video was charging that for a 12 year old sportster. All I was sayin is there’s a reason for the hiked prices. I still bought one. 😂
@@BipityBopity93 I’m in Virginia and we’ve been hit too by increased used bike prices. I got a 2012 vstar 1300 in 2019 from a dealer for 6k before taxes. Now a 2014 same male and model are asking 8k
Got a '15 Heritage. Really like that bike. I've put 10k on it in about a year and a half. I don't think you can go wrong with one. Have a blast and ride safe!!
The video turned out great! Had a blast shooting with you! I actually just saw the guy who bought that Heritage you rode in it. Let me know if I could ever help out again!
Doodle, you should go see Bert at Bert's Barracuda. He seems to have good deals on used bikes. Low Rider ST and the Heritage Softail are awesome bikes.
My favorite bike I had was my 2014 Heritage Softail with 16” apes etc , anyway wife wanted more comfort so traded in 2016 Road Glide ultra, awesome bike very comfortable etc , remember you sit in a road glide not on it haha that’s what the sales guy told me and by golly he was right, best thing about my bike now is it’s paid off woohoo, thanks really enjoy your channel
I know a guy in Knoxville that does custom paint it's a lot cheaper than the factory custom paint and when you get it done it looks awesome and it's Unique
Not sure if you have ridden it or not but they stoped making it m. The 2018 and up till they stoped make if them. The FLSL Softail Slim . It’s different from the softail 2018 and back.
I've been riding for 40 years, and never thought I'd own a Harley...and then I bought a RoadGlide. Now....I understand. You really can't compare the riding experience to anything else. But in the end, I sold it and went back to my GSA. Just a much better allaround bike. I hope to get another RoadGlide someday though, but I'll never be without an Adventure bike.
Love Harleys (currently own 1 and on my 4th HD) but I cannot blame anyone for buying an american style Japanese cruiser for 1/2 the price and equal quality. 17k for a beast of a 2022 street bob and ABS, cruise control, heated grips not standard. Tisk tisk HD
Wow, I like the way you throw those 800lb tourers around! I'm in the process of switching from 2 to 3 wheels due to a spine condition. *Sigh!* I'm heading on a road trip to look at a Goldwing and a TriGlide in the New Year. It's summer-time down under here in Kiwi-land and I don't want to lose any more time! For those of you interested in prices down here, a new Tri-Glide Ultra starts at $NZ64,495. I'm off to have a little cry now....
Great job doodle! I rice a Sportster, custom flavor with the biggest tank. With a windshield and mini floorboards, it's touring as it can get 😂 one day I'll try the road king or the heritage myself. Both I think are close to what I want
@Peter Alexander I got it. It's nice but I like my mustang vintage solo better, I get a little more ride time out of it. Plan to add the passenger seat if I ever need it
Hi Doodle, enjoyed your video as usual. Just a thought... Go on a ride with a Trike! or maybe try a can-am style 3-wheeler!? I've thought about it a few times. and I have watched some test drives. But I think it would be interesting to see and hear your experience with a 3-wheeler on one of your adventures. Thanks.
You are my favorite TH-camr hands down and bring so much excitement to riding your energy is so contagious!!! Keep up the great videos and hope one day I get to meet yah.
October 6th I traded my 2018 Electra glide ultra classic with 49746 miles on it for the 2022 Apex. Total out the door 41k with warranty including tire warranty and road hazard.
The reason I got a Harley was for the road trips. Just went on my second long distance trip solo and it was an amazing ride! My next video is the ride to Dry falls, NC, you have to do it. I hope you were able to do the Ormond loop before heading home. Oh yeah im the one with the niece who is a Jet pilot! Hope to see you again sometime. 😊
Oh Doodle, Just pull the trigger and get the Heritage Classic. Stay away from the bagged up Low Riders and Sportsters. Heritage is a Cruiser that thinks it's a touring bike and yet can live in both neighborhoods. It's like a Rottweiler. It can pull a heavy cart and manage livestock too. It can bite the burglar and baby sit too. And........You look adorable on it.
Many years, Harleys, and miles ago when I was into the dealer t-shirt thing, my friends in GA sent me a Killer Creek shirt. I thought the name was awesome. Enjoyed the video.
This was a really cool video! Loved seeing you getting to look at and sit on a bunch of different Harleys. I do badly want to get a big bagger some day. Need to take a Road Glide out for a ride, but want to do it for several hours, and not just a few minutes of a test ride, haha!
Also they are NOT quoting msrp prices… a lot of dealers are not now with new bikes hard to get.. even one I deal with told me they use dsrp.. dealer.. not manufacture… if you shop you might be able to get what you want still at the msrp price
I want to like Harley, but everything they make just feels so heavy. I thought the Street 500 was neat, but not like I would buy it new neat, but if I found a really good deal on one I would consider it neat.
I am surprised they gave you the prices. My local HD dealer wouldn’t do that before running my credit. Then they quoted me $7k more than MSRP per HD’s website. Now I am in the never Harley camp.
In 2018 I turned 66 and decided I wanted a new HD, but not a stereo system. At that time I was looking at the Heritage and the Deluxe. The Heritage came with bags and cruise control, the Deluxe was loaded with chrome and I later learned the Heritage had a longer shock absorber travel in the rear, 3" as opposed to 2" for the Deluxe. I bought my first HD when I was 15, a 1942 WLA, actually it was my very first vehicle. To make a long story short and my long journey with HD, I chose the chrome! I still have it and have completely built it into a mostly Heritage. I also changed the shock to 3" for more comfort. I love this bike and wouldn't hesitate to ride it across the country. I also changed the seat for a passenger and duel fishtail muffled exhaust. I'm 70 years old now and still going strong. PS, I would go with the Heritage if I was picking for you, you would love it.
Well Miss Doodle, I'm still waiting for you to get into the kicker world of older bikes. Not just modern crappy built darley havidson. There's hope though, the world of riding is so much bigger than the hundred dollars a stop brand. You are in my prayers Hoka Hey
If I rode 2 up, I would so have a trike. The traffic can be really bad where I live, and inching along in stop and go traffic is difficult enough riding solo.
A Heritage would be a good fit for you. Touring bikes are just too heavy. Just sold a 2015 Streetglide (after many years on 4 different HD's). Now on a 2015 Kawasaki Verysys 1000 set up for touring (lowered custom seat/Lust lowering kit); faster, 300 lbs lighter, better on gas love it....
Once you leave Killer Creek, head over to Indian Motorcycle of Buford and try a Pursuit, Challenger, Super Chief and/or Chieftain. I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised.
You’ll only get a small fraction of what you’re looking for when riding new bikes….. where the rubber really meets the road is when you “make that bike your own”…. Until then, riding new bikes just gives you a taste… all that bone stock stuff, stock seats, stock handlebars, stock shocks, stock foot controls….. stock stuff is made for everybody but not really good for anybody😂
H-D announced the Sportster 883 models will soon be discontinued. Not considering the Tri-Glide, Sportster, and the Pan-American. H-D now offers only two (2) frame platforms. The Softail models and the Touring models. The Frame within each model line is the same. The accessories like engine displacement, footboards, seats, handle bars, windshields, fairings, saddle bags, gas tanks, fenders, front forks, wheels, etc. are what varies to produce the different models. The accessories within a specific model affect the weight of the bike, and thus the performance and ride feel. However, it's still a Softail model frame or a Touring model frame. They all feel and ride differently.
Did you try the Road King? It is a touring bike without the huge heavy fairing. Sort of a larger Heritage. The Heritage may be too small for those long distance rides you do. I have a Street Bob which I converted to a mini bagger like the Heritage but it is too small for Highway travel and long distances. Perfect for me but I'm thinking you need a long distance bike.
Wow, they showed options?? Didn't get that when I went to 2 different ones in Colorado. Forcing a 40k bike on me at both. Went to Indian and got options, new and used. Rode off with a Chieftain.
I loved my 2008 Road Glide. I wanted to trade it in and got severely low balled. A newer used RG was running $25k-$30k. Not in my budget. Seems like HD forgot those of us who helped build the brand.

So many Harley's. Spoilt for choice.
You're such a natural "vlog makerer"..!!
Loving the look of the Heritage. But my 1st love is the sporty.
I have a ultra classic cvo, dyna super and a sportster. I love all three and use each for a different purpose. Don't limit yourself to just one bike.
Ride the Road King then Street Glide. To be so similar they couldn’t be more different.
*ride 😂
@Peter Alexander I got it. It's nice but I like my mustang vintage solo better, I get a little more ride time out of it. Plan to add the passenger seat if I ever need it
I love my Heritage. Loved my Road king also. But the Heritage is just special 😊
Thanks.
you should try Honda Goldwing once😀
TC
You are my favorite TH-camr hands down and bring so much excitement to riding your energy is so contagious!!! Keep up the great videos and hope one day I get to meet yah.
Great to see a new video!
October 6th I traded my 2018 Electra glide ultra classic with 49746 miles on it for the 2022 Apex. Total out the door 41k with warranty including tire warranty and road hazard.
That Heritage could be the bike for you! Great video, It`ll be interesting to see what bagger you end up owning. Good Luck 😎
The Flame Job is for You, Doodle!😎👍👍
Hey Carolyn, I'm in Marietta, let's go for a ride some day, maybe you'll take us riding and we'll take you diving? :D
Thanks for another great video. Love my 2021 Heritage down here in Australia - is the "Swiss Army Knife of Harleys".
Cool Harley bikes, I like them a lot, best for long rides and highway rides, specially in a big cruiser group
This was a really cool video! Loved seeing you getting to look at and sit on a bunch of different Harleys. I do badly want to get a big bagger some day. Need to take a Road Glide out for a ride, but want to do it for several hours, and not just a few minutes of a test ride, haha!
Doodle, you are like a good red wine. You just keep getting better over time!
Also they are NOT quoting msrp prices… a lot of dealers are not now with new bikes hard to get.. even one I deal with told me they use dsrp.. dealer.. not manufacture… if you shop you might be able to get what you want still at the msrp price
Ohhh that road king is gorgeous, it’s just asking for you to put some speakers on it and blast some rockabilly. I’m a sucker for an awesome paint job.
I'm legit jealous you can sit and still be flat footed on the glides. I have to tippy toe my Roadglide even with a lowered seat.
I want to like Harley, but everything they make just feels so heavy. I thought the Street 500 was neat, but not like I would buy it new neat, but if I found a really good deal on one I would consider it neat.
They always feel heavy you just get more comfortable and confident with that heavy weight over Time.
Ride like a Pro's class and tips helped me handle the big ones!
Be the boss of your motorcycle- has great videos and does classes all over.
Thank you for all you do!
You looked awesome on softail girl ❤, keep fine tuning it for you! Ride free 🇺🇸
I am surprised they gave you the prices. My local HD dealer wouldn’t do that before running my credit. Then they quoted me $7k more than MSRP per HD’s website. Now I am in the never Harley camp.
Oh Doodle, just get the Heritage Bagger it's just money after all... I never let price detour me from getting what I wanted... LOL
I am on my tenth Harley. It’s my third Heritage Softail and it’s the best one yet!
@Peter Alexander Thank you.
Well Miss Doodle,
I'm still waiting for you to get into the kicker world of older bikes. Not just modern crappy built darley havidson.
There's hope though, the world of riding is so much bigger than the hundred dollars a stop brand.
You are in my prayers
Hoka Hey
Doodle, another great video.
How does than handlebar camera work? you can't see the arm when it's pointing back at you
I am looking forward to seeing your next series on your new HD 😊😊😊😊
IMO the heritage suits you miss Doodle. A classic looking bike for a lady with class.
Cool bike. I have a 2016 Versys 1000, a 2018 Kymco Spade 150 and since September a 2022 Heritage. I like all bikes.
@@brettdavis80 My favorite HD was my Heritage great ride...
I don't ride anymore, but I really enjoy your content....you have a new follower.
Once you leave Killer Creek, head over to Indian Motorcycle of Buford and try a Pursuit, Challenger, Super Chief and/or Chieftain. I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Hudson, Sales manager, needs to get a shirt from the adult section and light beer 😂
It’s a joke.
@@freebehindbars8654 You'd think as much as he flails his arms around that he'd burn more calories.........
Its nice to see prices love watching good on you love love nz be safe
The bike I have now I bought it from killer creek. This past April. Softail deluxe.
I love my Heritage, I won’t give it up for anything. It’s a 2020 114. Love my baby.
The black with yellow flames and drag bars!
Deadwood green on that Classic is so nice.
