The principal difference of India and China in terms of arm race is that China builds most of its arsenal by it self through R&D, India prefers to buy most of its arsenal through Russia, Europe and US, which is highly expensive and difficult to provide sustainable training, maintenance and integration.

The KEY for INDIAN and CHINESE for better future is NOT to let US/GB to stir up, mess up & intervene our internal affairs.India & China must work together, in this case, will both countries mutually benefit, and as well for overall Asian in some extent.

The history of mankind is almost totally African. During the history of world trade there has always been the main trading line between Africa, India and China. That'll be case in future. China-India-Africa-Brazil is the real powerhouse now when western nations can't subjugate them (by military force). Just remember how Africans once peopled the world. They went along coastline of Indian Ocean, to South East Asia, China and Japan. Much later to Europe.

Peace-Of-Mind more Africans should migrate to China. China is thrilled to invest in the African people and nation

As an Indian my view is like India is not comparable to China in any index. China is far developed than India. But peculiarity of Indias growth is that its powered by people not by strict n manipulated laws of govt. Also its able to manage the GDP growth in 2nd position for years despite of the fact that its democratic country.
China on otherside miraculously pulled almost all manufacturing units of world to their country. India need anotherr decacde to reach near by that.

Let me correct you. As a first generation American from Pakistani descent, I can assure you that when we came to the US, it was still the land of opportunities. The US did not reach the moon simply by consuming and falling deeper into debt. America as a whole, during the earlier and middle part of the 20th century, was an exceedingly industrious nation, and as such, developed into the economic might of the world. Now, because of rampant corruption, it is falling behind the rest of the world...

China on the other hand took the harder route via mostly R&D, longer time to catch up but brings enormous amount of advantage in the long run. That’s why China prefers to buy a scrapped aircraft carrier and spent years to learn refitting the carrier instead of buying it brand new from Russia like India.
Strategically in long term, China has already won the arm race.

India and China are also slowly opening up the ancient silk route...they have already opened their borders in some parts of Himalayan range for express purpose of high volume of trade and commerce..also building railways interconnecting the two super powers.Since the war in 62 both countries have come along a long way in building a friendly relationship . Rogue elements are trying their best to destroy their friendship as they know what happens when 1/3rd of the world's population come together

Just measuring cellphones in China is a bit too simplistic indicator of economic success. In the China the population is too big for phone cables to be laid in a short-time so cell use is encouraged.
In India you can't just talk about the economy without referring to religion. In China you have a government that discouraged practicing religion and got people to focus on money. Most Indians are Hindu. In a caste system an underclass will always be present due to the large population.

The Sino-India war was just a minor conflict from a historic perspective. It is incurred mostly by misunderstanding and stressful international circumstance when two countries were both newly born. Compared to the bloody wars between other neighbors, say, between Britain and France, France and Germany, Germany and Britain, US and Canada, US and Mexico, and so on, the Sino-India war was highly self-strained. Historically, the two countries are self-contained and peaceful,

China has also seen plunders by the foreigners in the past. They are also trying to stand and make their mark n they are developing fast.India also along with it's high growth is trying to eradicate poverty which goes for China also. The idea should be of mutual cooperation between the two. Both countries may not agree on many issues but they should figure out a way.China growing bit faster than India should not get arrogant and India should also be more clear on issues that concern china.

India should learn from China ASAP.
1.Improve education and health care facility by providing largest possible share of budget(for that we can reduce defense budget by creating better relation with neighbors).
2.Remove social barriers which create problem in having a society where everyone have equal level playing field.e.g caste,in equal distribution of wealth etc
3.All political parties should bring younger/risk taking personalities to the top most positions.
4.Rapid industrialization(I know that is difficult in a country which lack resources like land because of high density, but government and media should try its level best to show people the benefit of industrialization by portraying a comparative analysis with countries like china) and related skill development.
I believe if a Prime minister believes in some reform and want to pursue it he can not do that without having at least some citizens approval on that.So government (media)should create an environment first where people will believe the reforms themselves and accept that with open arms.

+GoldenHawk93 My friend you are right ,however in my initial comment I just wanted to put some points regarding India and how India can learn from China's experience in achieving high growth .Every country has its own set of problems be it India ,China or US .But India comparatively is far behind the other 2 in at least socially and economically .I mean here in India we still talk about caste system where as US is talking on gay rights. So India has a long distance to cover.

As far as if you compare growth of both countries China is a communist country so there was no right to private property. So China could build infrastructure faster as state could build road, canal anywhere it wanted! But India being a liberal democracy has institution of private property like that of america so state had no right on a pvt property if it wanted to build road over it!which caused delays! But things are changing.China is trying to develop in it's own way and India in it's own way :-)

not likely, Indian economy is slowing. The structure of current indian economy is not structured for long term. SHabby infrastructure and slums in cities like mumbai makes people vary of india s growth. Corruption also plays a major factor here and a lack of civic sense contributes its share to disaster. In short not in 2020, more realistic timeline would be after 2050-2060 is far more achievable just when india's population is at its peak and declining

Free trade or not the ones benefiting are not common people getting paid less and less. Even jobs working for the Big-3 auto manufacturers workers' wages & benefits get less even with unions behind.
We can't expect to sell high-end products like cars made by GM to China the same way the can send "Made in China" GM cars back. The minute you put workers out of work, they can't consume the products you're selling.

  • @vintagegoy

I have the utmost respect for India, however if they are such an economic powerhouse at this point why do their people continue to mass migrate to the West? It's easy to call a large nation a powerhouse because they have the work force and territory to be great. That's not entirely true in India's case because like Brazil, China and North Korea the people are sacrificed/empoverished in exchange for political and military power. Despicable.

Blaming India for break down of Pakistan in 1971 is a false statement, not based on any kind of facts. Pakistan split on its own due to the genocide it conducted on the people on Bangladesh and India had to intervene to help the freedom movement in Bangladesh to avoid the great humanitarian crisis in Bangladesh (as a result of which 2 million refugees fled to India from Bangaldesh) fearing the wrath of the Pakistani army.
