      Very important point at 41:30 The US continues to push on China's buttons. The latest follow-on is punitive tariffs against China and continued technology bans. China also sees the US policy toward China as vacilating and unpredictable as different parties and party leaders take office. At some point they will just do as they please and test the USA's resolve to intervene.

    • @tromboneJTS

      Every time a contemporary World leader says they respect the One China policy, and then acts in a completely opposite fashion they first confuse the Chinese. Then, this behavior erodes China's trust and drapes all future interactions with suspicion and incredulity.

      Domestic political decay in the US is the root cause. Corrupt and rogue politicians divert attention on their incompetence and failure to fix domestic issues by diverting US voters on imaginary Enemies, serving their masters in Millitary industrial complex.
      Taiwan has always been able engage peaceful discussion with China. Sadly, infiltration by foreign agencies in Taiwan is so dangerously deep that such peaceful engagement opportunities are always intercepted, polarizing Taiwanese People. Unfortunately, Taiwan is a chess piece expendable as US sees fit. We are not blind.

      The Chinese have pissed off all the other countries in Asia - especially India. They've repeatedly attack the Indian border. Let them attack Taiwan.
      The minute the second largest military in the world knows that China's has a large number of its soldiers in the middle of the ocean, what do you think is going to happen? The Indians are going to sit in a corner rubbing themselves? No, they're going to invade China. The Indian Navy will send its navy into to the Indian ocean to halt all oil and gas, and food shipments going to China from the Middle East, and beyond.
      India doesn't care about the situation between Russia and NATO, but China getting carved up like a cake is non-negotiable. China also has an aging population, and the one-child policy means that there's a lot of men with no children coming from them (they don't have enough women to reproduce with to keep the population over one billion). The Chinese population going to be declining sharply. Whether they invade Taiwan (or assist in Ukraine - a long, long distance from China) or not, the fun times for the Chinese are yet to start.

      I mean , the USA broke the principal of independence and sovereignty of UN members by invading Iraq and operating a regime change ;
      The Russian federation broke the first two principals and also the principal of territorial integrity by invading and annexing Ukraine ;
      But the People's republic of china , what principle would they violet?
      Taiwan is officially recognized by only a handful of country , they don't have a seat at the UN , and the vast majority of UN members recognize the PRC , lead by the communist government in Beijing as the "true china" and that Taiwan is only a part of its territory .

    I really appreciate your video, which brings attention to this important topic. As an ex-Taiwanese special force operator, I will fight to my last breath to protect our democratic ways of life and my children.
    Please remember that we're not just some "remote island". If we fall, the first island chain breaks, and Taiwan strait becomes Chinese controlled. From the east coast of Taiwan, China will then be able to send its nuclear submarines to the Pacific without the US knowing it, and the whole west coast of the US will be under the fire range of their submarines. Japan and Korea may also have to bow to China because most of their energy supplies and trades go through the Taiwan strait. US influences will be significantly weakened, and most likely the US dollar will collapse as a result.
    If you think carefully, we are more like a gatekeeper of the free world.

    My impression of the recent overwhelming show of force near Taiwan is that it was done with the intent of instilling a sense of despair -- to make Taiwan submitting to the PRC seem far less costly to the Taiwanese than engaging in military conflict with the PLA. The drill was conducted in that specific region for posturing reasons rather than training, or else it would have been done anywhere else on the Chinese coast. If the PRC was seriously intending to go to war with Taiwan, they would have kept their drill under wraps as best as they could.

      China has done a lot of growing in the last several decades. However, as a US citizen, I am much less fearful of China today than I was even 5-10 years ago. China was on a rocket ship upwards from the 90s to the mid 2000s. Now, though, China’s unfavorable demographic trends and overbearing government interventions are going to greatly reduce China’s ability to grow in the next decade.
      The rest of the world sees it coming too; in 2023 China’s net foreign inflows to their stock market fell 77%. Most projections show that China’s growth rate is likely to slow to 3% by 2028 and fall below that of the U.S. from 2031 to 2035.

    I am Malaysian Chinese, now calling Canada home. I have lived and worked in both Taiwan and Mainland China. I still have relatives living in Mainland China. As far as I can tell, my relatives are very happy with CCP and their government.
    I do not believe that China will attack Taiwan unless provoked by either Taiwan's or US action. It is not in China's interest to destroy a place that they hope to integrate into China. Recent announcement by CCP appeared to indicate that China planned to work very hard at unifying Taiwan through peaceful means. There was no mention of unification by force. CCP referred to people living in Taiwan as family.
    In the imaginary event that China should attack Taiwan, I do not believe that US and the West will come to the aid and defense of Taiwan. It is too far for US and the West to mobilize to come to the defense of Taiwan. China's shore base offensive weapons would see to that that ships and planes from US and the West would reach the Taiwan theatre. If US tries to mobilize from Japan, South Korea, the Philippine or Guam, those bases will be destroyed in short order. Yes, China will suffer damages. But it is much less when compared to what would happen to Japan, South Korea, Philippine and Guam. Major infrastructures in Taiwan will be destroyed with first few days of the conflict.
    Whatever US is doing now in the Asia Pacific is for the benefits and interests of US and to maintain the hegemony of US. Taiwanese would be quite naive to believe that the US and the West will come to their defense should China attack.
    Previously, US military doctrine was to contain communism. Now it is to contain China. US has hundred, if not thousand, of military bases around the world. China has one in Djibouti. US will spend some us$850 BILLIONS in military expenses. It is 4 TIMES THAT OF CHINA. Who is the aggressor? Obama started the latest aggression with the pivot to Asia Pacific. US bases in Japan, South Korea, Philippine and Guam form the First Island Chain to contain China. Taiwan is to complete the chain. Taiwan and the rest are just pawns in US great game of hegemony.
    Taiwan, please wake up.

    Superpowers regardless of Ideologies have not come to the realization that they can infact coexist peacefully.
    Each Superpower knows that each have their own problems to resolve internally and should realistically focus on such issues first.
    Ukraine, the world must learn from this current conflict. Ukraine and Taiwan are mere pawns in conflicts between Superpowers.
    Why does certain states continue to provoke conflicts? Security and Stability as projected and promoted for decades have not proven successfull, why then are we still selling this?

In fact since 1917--1949 we have experimented two or more Alternatives to Capitalism , a primitive socialism , as a beggining of systemic solutions to capitalism--colonialism , in deepest troubles and crisese and wars since Vietnam war or Korea War ! Therfore why you cannot take side who is provoking Wars All The Time on This Planet ? If you cannot conceive why we have still colonies fighting for their independances and still many countries left behind developements , and Russia and China , even renouncing to some territories since 1989 , few for Russia , most important are Ukraine and Kazakhestan etc... and Taiwan , Hong Kong and elsewhere for China , and Kosovo , Moldova and Yugoslavia broken into pieces by NATO for East Europe , and still they are provoked by USA--NATO imperialist--colonialist--financial powers , then what you need to say in all honesty is There Should be An Alternative to center of provocation : that is NATO--USA-- E.U. powers , as President Putin , patiently waiting since 2014 coup d'Etat of NATO-USA led in Ukraine is reacting to stop aggressions since 1979 in Afghanistan with Bin Laden armed by USA --CIA and some allies in NATO , broken away by Turkeieh after Syrian wars and violations , after Libya , Somalia , & Palestine dead end , Yemen war etc.... !
