Only thing missing in terms of flavor is saving Us in the intro and picking them back up as a permanent summon under Moonrise, since they have some Devour Intellect abilities that would fit right in.

@@keremcantarhanBest method IMO is to knock her out, save and then do a long rest. If she's alive in the room after long rest you did it correctly. Reload save from before long rest and continue killing the two other leaders + talk to Halsin without doing any long rests.
All these Orin thumbnails with her getting slapped with salamis, bitten by zombies, and tentacled by mindflayers are for sure making me feel some kind of way

Thx, been looking forward for a fair but fun difficulty mods, currently have the "raise level cap to 20", "5e spells", "Become a Dragon" mods + A full custom party, im still a the ship crash, and wondering if by act2 - act3 im just way too OP, theres this death march mod but its a WIP and only covers act 1 sadly, do you have any other suggestions?

You can force her to change if you tell her sarevok is her dad you can find this either by speak with the dead on her mom or reading sarevoks journal in his office

So my guess as to why people wind up dying is because if a character's stats are drained to 0, they usually die. It's been a mechanic in D&D since 1st edition and is something most players underestimate as a potential way of killing things. The only "survivable" stat is having INT drop to 0, which sends you into a coma until it's restored, rather than outright killing you. Every other stat is lethal, for various horrible reasons I don't feel like listing in a TH-cam comment, D&D can get really dark XD. The TLDR is that, depending on how many stats you drain, you are putting them to 0, killing them. Or maybe it's some other reason, I'm not completely sure of. Considering the name though, it sounds like you are frying their neurons to drain their stats, which would cause massive cerebral hemorrhaging which is lethal.
Heres my my guess for each Strength: your muscles cant hold your own bones up anymore, making you crumble Dexterity: your very blood gets stuck in place, not moving through your body Constitution: speaks for itself really. Wisdom: your brain forgets how to function and just implodes Charisma: die of cringe

Wisdom: Your mind spirals into a madness induced hallucination, making you lose grip of reality as a whole. You can still THINK. But are so far gone that you will still just sit there and drool. With practically nothing able to make you stir. Charisma: You go completely feral, behaving like a wild animal with no memory of who or what you once were, as your very personality collapses in on itself. You can still function, but only on an instinctual level. If starvation or sickness doesn't kill you, you are very likely to get yourself killed by actual wild animals. Note, these descriptions are FAR less in depth than what some of the older titles describe. But it's the best I can do without basically entering the realm of body horror.

The coma part comes from reading about Intellect Devourers, as they have an attack that will instantly send your int to 0 in 3.5. The others are from so many differing sources that giving an exact title is impossible for me. Sorry. I do believe the necrosis from losing CON is mentioned in Libris Mortis or Elder Evils, but don't hold me to that one.

@@Dorumin From what I have seen in other videos and comments is that you can't have the quest that involves killing the goblin leaders, so you got to avoid talking to Zevlor, Halsin and Kagha about eliminating the leadership.
you actually can have the quest, all you have to do to get minthara later is steal something near her and then attack her with non lethal attacks that are melee
@@Mypreist123 You can have the quest; I didn't attack Minthara at all until I got the quest. It's the "temporarily hostile" tag which determines if knocking her out will work as intended. I didn't even need to steal something near her like the guy above me said; I literally just cast darkness and knock her out before anyone can see the combat happening
Wouldn't really say not having the strength to keep your body together/being basically unable to move/having zero vitality/complete brain rot to the point where your brain is there for decoration, are weird reasons for dying. 0 charisma death is a funny thing though.
You need to have the "Temporary Hostile" flag on Minthara, like stealing something in front of her. Also, make sure NOT TO KILL DROR RAGZLIN before doing Minthara, as itll cause everyone in the camp to become hostile. So yeah, just steal the scroll on her desk and that's good enough to make her temp hostile to KO.
they're both willing to use the tadpole's powers without persuasion, but becoming partial illithid (consuming the astral tadpole) will require persuasion like the others. astarion's is especially heartbreaking
Gale and Astarion will only use tadpoles without persuasion. Minthara is the only companion that will use the astral tadpole and become half-ilithid without persuasion. And Karlach is the only companion that will become a mindflayer at the final battle willingly.
Its a little more interesting than that in RP. Whennyour character runs out of a stat, like intelligence, their body no longer understands how to function and they expire. Or strength, their heart no longer can exert the strength to pump. It can get gnarly
8:00 Yeah I just realized this could happen too. I tried to steal from Kagha and she was like "I told you the outsiders were evil!" and everybody in the room went outside. I killed Kagha and when I got out of the druid's room I find a freaking massacre. The freaking Druids have murdered a bunch of the tieflings and somehow gathered like 10 of them into the prison area and are just killing them one by one.

8:22 Synaptic consumption is not bugged if you inspect the enemies defeated with it they have "atrophied" which states that one of their stats hit 0 and they have died instantly.
The thing with minthara that also happened to me and was bumped put when I did not see her at moonrise, is you should Knock her out while she is also "temporary hostile", interacting with her and agroing or are wanted in the goblin camp will remove that tag
I love this! Aside from you being a mindflayer, our runs were very similar, including the chaos in the Grove, the killing of isobel, but having her captured anyways, and the crazy ass fight against the insanely strong, and duplicating angel 😂 There is a different scene, and fight against Orin however! I'm not sure how I got it, I did run into Orin like 4 separate occasions, so when I went to fight her, it was just a duel between me and Orin! It is a must play part!!
I think the reason you knocked out Minthara but couldn't recruit her later is because she didn't have the "Temporarily Hostile" tag when you knocked her out. Apparently you need to either steal in front of her or agree to attack the grove with her and then attack her. Both actions trigger the "Temporarily Hostile" condition. Then you kill Dror and Gut, report to Halsin, and then she will be at Moonrise. I personally haven't gotten to recruiting her this way yet, but that seems to be the method you need use
I actually did this on my 2st playthrough. It was extremely fun and works pretty well with Dark Urge origin. Although I did have to do some mental gymnastics to make Mind-flyer work through out the story. First time comer here, Amazing content dude
7:50 Oh you’ve never seen this? My first run of the game I went down the stairs towards the spot the Druids were doing a ritual in. I *intended* to try and talk to them. But when the cutscene ended I walked forward a bit and then suddenly the Druids got super angry and then this cutscene played much to my flummox
Now I want to see you guys start creating contraptions that could kick a goblin into outer space while simultaneously making a cup of coffee with artificer.
That also happens if you manage to steal the idle before exposing Kagha's plans to turn the grove over to Shadow Druids. The Druids and Tieflings will kill each other until few are left. Which also makes it that if you return after Minthara and her Goblins will be there.
She loses the ability to cast it herself, BUT if you tell her that Sarevok ordered her mother to kill her and pass all of the dialogue checks, Bhaal will forcibly transform her into a Slayer... which, according to lore, devours her Soul. You bet I'm gonna be sneaking into her room and rolling those dice every time I see her.
just imagine, you could turn all 3 chosen and the other major villains including the brain and raphael into your thralls... and just imagine if you were to play a mind flayer mystic...
Synaptic consumption drains the target's ability scores. It killed them on their turn because when their turn started, their ability score went down by 1 more, reducing the score to 0. Upon reaching 0 in any ability score, the target automatically dies. The idea is that they become so weak/dumb they can't function anymore.
btw you can still get minthara by knocking her out. you cant talk to her and there has to be at least 1 other goblin boss alive. i used non lethal attacks passive and it worked on my current playthrough. i recommend only taking her lyre because if you take her armor she will appear without it in act 2 (unless thats what you want i dont judge)
I believe vampiric mindflayers come from the Ravenloft setting, specifically Bluetspur. They’re pretty much what would happen if the grand design actually went through, and the art shown with their stat block looks… incredibly painful. Imagine if a mindflayer ditched the head and became all mouth and tentacles. As the name somewhat suggests, they no longer eat whole brains, instead drinking cerebral spinal fluid to get their psionic sustenance. They can be found anywhere in the Demiplane of dread, because their homeland, the alien and twisted Bluetspur, doesn’t have the resources to sustain themselves, or their slowly decaying Godbrain. Oh also they get liquified upon return to the Godbrain.
An idea for why Mol thinks you saved them So mol is underground in the groove. She missed the wipe out and probably thought it was the goblins then maybe some kid spy saw you clear out the goblin camp Though tbh I can’t really think of a reason why she’d think about saving you. Cause yeah everyone else is still dead 😂

I learned this the hard way during my current/first play thru - apparently you have to knock her out BEFORE killing the hobgoblin (unless neither work, I didn’t verify that)
to recruit minthara by knocking her out you MUST be sure she have the "temporary hostile" status, right after knocking her out you must clear the rest of the camp without a long rest
Why Minthara didn’t work is because you need to steal the scroll off the table to make her temporarily hostile. After you have the confrontation dialogue pulled up (from the way I learned) you have a secondary character (with the Passive non-leathal attacks on) attack her. After the fight initiates literally bonk her until she is knocked out. After that just continue on your way and she should be at the Moonrise Towers in Act II
I think to get Minthara on the team with non-lethal attack you need to a) talk to her first and show false location of the grove b) don't destroy the grove. This way she will be in Moonrise being punished by Katheric for not destroying the grove and you can save her. Can't go guns blazing trough everything for that to work though. I did it and got pretty much every possible companion... Karlah, Halsin (sharing same camp spot as Minthara)... When Jaheira, Minsc and Mizora join in act 3 my camp gonna look like a small settlement XD
I wish we get the option to be a mind flayer sooner like if we consume enough parasites after becoming a half-illithid to trigger the next stage of ceremorphosis rather than only get to play it near the end of the game.
You can definitely kill Auntie Ethel right away in the hut. On my first playthrough, I went to her last, for the most part, so I was already quite leveled. I basically killed her in just above one round. I got extremely lucky. I ended up reloading, though, because I found out I missed a bunch of content just outright murdering her the second I step inside lol.
Happened to me on my second or third run. I hadn't even gone that way on the first couple of runs, and found out about her, and when I went there for the first time, I put her down so fast I was like, "Wait...what?" LOL Had to re-load and actually LET her run away, so that I would get the rest of the content for that story.
If you want to recruit Minthara whilst siding with the grove you need to knock her out but you can't fully aggro her. You need to cause her to become temporary hostile, e.g. splash damage from an arrow rather than directly attacking them, and then knock her out. She will then reappear in Act 2.
As far as I understand, if you enable "non lethal attacks" passive and then "kill" (knock out) Minthara, you should see her in act 2 and be able to get her, maybe something bugged out. It was added in the latest big patch I think
I did it in two playthrough and she showed up in neither (I already tried it way back a few weeks after the game released for good and i was disappointed that knocking her out didn't count, brings me memories to that dark time). From what I've gathered, she needs the "temporarily hostile" condition for it to work or something, which I didn't know when I tried and which is also pretty stupid as I don't see how that's supposed to make a difference. Or maybe the difference is that you shan't take Zevlor's quest ? That's my two leading theories at the moment of what causes this
In the non-dark urge plays, she has already killed her brother and has gained Bhaals favor, but when you are the dark urge, then you ARE the brother she needs to kill you to get her Slayer Blessing👍🏼 Hope this helps:)
I don't know if its still possible but you could get a full party of mindflayers in Act 2. After doing the no return point try to back to Act 1 triggering the party to be found and changed to mindflayers. Apparenlty you could save during this, reload the save, then fast travel back to Act 2 with everyone as a Mindflayer.
about the npcs dying when you drain their stats, i think thats because you might have drained their stat to zero. youll die too if that happens to you ingame.

8:35 the reason everything drops dead, I assume, is that if someone has an ability score at or below zero, they die. One of those weird rules of dnd.

I love this! Aside from you being a mindflayer, our runs were very similar, including the chaos in the Grove, the killing of isobel, but having her captured anyways, and the crazy ass fight against the insanely strong, and duplicating angel 😂
There is a different scene, and fight against Orin however! I'm not sure how I got it, I did run into Orin like 4 separate occasions, so when I went to fight her, it was just a duel between me and Orin! It is a must play part!!
I think the reason you knocked out Minthara but couldn't recruit her later is because she didn't have the "Temporarily Hostile" tag when you knocked her out. Apparently you need to either steal in front of her or agree to attack the grove with her and then attack her. Both actions trigger the "Temporarily Hostile" condition. Then you kill Dror and Gut, report to Halsin, and then she will be at Moonrise. I personally haven't gotten to recruiting her this way yet, but that seems to be the method you need use
I actually did this on my 2st playthrough. It was extremely fun and works pretty well with Dark Urge origin. Although I did have to do some mental gymnastics to make Mind-flyer work through out the story. First time comer here, Amazing content dude

My first run of the game I went down the stairs towards the spot the Druids were doing a ritual in. I *intended* to try and talk to them. But when the cutscene ended I walked forward a bit and then suddenly the Druids got super angry and then this cutscene played much to my flummox

If you "killed isobel" Scleritas gives you the Slayer form. So when you reach orin she can't use it as you have it.

That also happens if you manage to steal the idle before exposing Kagha's plans to turn the grove over to Shadow Druids. The Druids and Tieflings will kill each other until few are left. Which also makes it that if you return after Minthara and her Goblins will be there.
Orin doesn't turn into the Slayer in a Durge playthrough like this because she can't. The Urge is the Slayer, not her.
She losses access to the slayer form if you get it 20:49
She loses the ability to cast it herself, BUT if you tell her that Sarevok ordered her mother to kill her and pass all of the dialogue checks, Bhaal will forcibly transform her into a Slayer... which, according to lore, devours her Soul. You bet I'm gonna be sneaking into her room and rolling those dice every time I see her.

Synaptic consumption drains the target's ability scores. It killed them on their turn because when their turn started, their ability score went down by 1 more, reducing the score to 0. Upon reaching 0 in any ability score, the target automatically dies. The idea is that they become so weak/dumb they can't function anymore.
Oh man, if only it was this simple in real life. Over half the planet would just slip into a coma and die or something.

btw you can still get minthara by knocking her out. you cant talk to her and there has to be at least 1 other goblin boss alive. i used non lethal attacks passive and it worked on my current playthrough. i recommend only taking her lyre because if you take her armor she will appear without it in act 2 (unless thats what you want i dont judge)

I believe vampiric mindflayers come from the Ravenloft setting, specifically Bluetspur. They’re pretty much what would happen if the grand design actually went through, and the art shown with their stat block looks… incredibly painful. Imagine if a mindflayer ditched the head and became all mouth and tentacles. As the name somewhat suggests, they no longer eat whole brains, instead drinking cerebral spinal fluid to get their psionic sustenance. They can be found anywhere in the Demiplane of dread, because their homeland, the alien and twisted Bluetspur, doesn’t have the resources to sustain themselves, or their slowly decaying Godbrain.
Oh also they get liquified upon return to the Godbrain.

I learned this the hard way during my current/first play thru - apparently you have to knock her out BEFORE killing the hobgoblin (unless neither work, I didn’t verify that)
to recruit minthara by knocking her out you MUST be sure she have the "temporary hostile" status, right after knocking her out you must clear the rest of the camp without a long rest
Why Minthara didn’t work is because you need to steal the scroll off the table to make her temporarily hostile. After you have the confrontation dialogue pulled up (from the way I learned) you have a secondary character (with the Passive non-leathal attacks on) attack her. After the fight initiates literally bonk her until she is knocked out. After that just continue on your way and she should be at the Moonrise Towers in Act II

I think to get Minthara on the team with non-lethal attack you need to a) talk to her first and show false location of the grove b) don't destroy the grove. This way she will be in Moonrise being punished by Katheric for not destroying the grove and you can save her. Can't go guns blazing trough everything for that to work though.
I did it and got pretty much every possible companion... Karlah, Halsin (sharing same camp spot as Minthara)... When Jaheira, Minsc and Mizora join in act 3 my camp gonna look like a small settlement XD
I wish we get the option to be a mind flayer sooner like if we consume enough parasites after becoming a half-illithid to trigger the next stage of ceremorphosis rather than only get to play it near the end of the game.
You can definitely kill Auntie Ethel right away in the hut. On my first playthrough, I went to her last, for the most part, so I was already quite leveled.
I basically killed her in just above one round. I got extremely lucky. I ended up reloading, though, because I found out I missed a bunch of content just outright murdering her the second I step inside lol.
Happened to me on my second or third run. I hadn't even gone that way on the first couple of runs, and found out about her, and when I went there for the first time, I put her down so fast I was like, "Wait...what?" LOL Had to re-load and actually LET her run away, so that I would get the rest of the content for that story.

If you want to recruit Minthara whilst siding with the grove you need to knock her out but you can't fully aggro her. You need to cause her to become temporary hostile, e.g. splash damage from an arrow rather than directly attacking them, and then knock her out. She will then reappear in Act 2.
As far as I understand, if you enable "non lethal attacks" passive and then "kill" (knock out) Minthara, you should see her in act 2 and be able to get her, maybe something bugged out. It was added in the latest big patch I think
I did it in two playthrough and she showed up in neither (I already tried it way back a few weeks after the game released for good and i was disappointed that knocking her out didn't count, brings me memories to that dark time).
From what I've gathered, she needs the "temporarily hostile" condition for it to work or something, which I didn't know when I tried and which is also pretty stupid as I don't see how that's supposed to make a difference. Or maybe the difference is that you shan't take Zevlor's quest ? That's my two leading theories at the moment of what causes this

In the non-dark urge plays, she has already killed her brother and has gained Bhaals favor, but when you are the dark urge, then you ARE the brother she needs to kill you to get her Slayer Blessing👍🏼

I don't know if its still possible but you could get a full party of mindflayers in Act 2. After doing the no return point try to back to Act 1 triggering the party to be found and changed to mindflayers. Apparenlty you could save during this, reload the save, then fast travel back to Act 2 with everyone as a Mindflayer.
about the npcs dying when you drain their stats, i think thats because you might have drained their stat to zero. youll die too if that happens to you ingame.
