This test seems to test only how sharp a knife is and a little of its edge holding quality. I have a three inch Helle customized with file work on the spine, an American Whitetail deer brow tine as the handle with brass hardware (hilt and butt plate) in a hans sown and tooled leather neck sheath. It's the cat's pajamas for small careful cutting jobs like field dressing game and food preparation and carving.
@ESAPOWER Sure man - just Search Bushcraft Knife Techniques, or Wildernessoutfitters, or silver fox bushcraft... Anything like that. There are lots of bushcrafters with lots of videos. You just have to open your eyes. But the basics of all this are common sense and personal safety.
@atomdongle, i didnt watch the whole thing, and while i agree with you that its dumb how he cut that wood, he actually never did a full stroke toward his hand
@shadowflight762 shouldn't of said couch ninjas in area such as this my bad, just giving props to a beginner, and true he does need to be more careful.
Ive never been so afraid watching someone use a knife , you should NEVER cut towards yourself. Your very lucky you still have all your fingers. Im with the other posts in that you really need to learn knife safety for the sake of your digits.
Hmm. Instead of just insulting him, why not point him toward some videos on proper knife handling? Say, perhaps, this one by Bushcraft Northwest: watch?v=s16uOV1IsV4 Or maybe this one by Ray Mears: watch?v=pCQyOAUODlM
You would be better off to use just one knife, get used to it and then learn how to use it properly. Most of what you did here was just wrong. It's not about how many knives you have it is how you handle and use them. Before you try and do a comparison you need to be proficient in the tasks you attempt so that differences due to the knife become evident.. Pick a knife that is comfortable to hold and gives you good control then get rid of the rest. One good knife will last a life time. Regards
vid is ok ,, but ,,, those rocks can ruin a blade ,, not good in the wilderness ,,,, also ,, why do you guys do a carving demo at a knot ,,,,, not fair to the knives that are over the knot
Oh my. I had to stop watching after 2 minutes. I tell my children that when using a knife, they should always imagine where the blade would go if the object they are cutting should suddenly disappear. In this video, the demonstrator is lucky he didn't cut himself or ruin a blade by chopping into a rock. Sorry, but this is a really awful display of knife handling.
wow you mate 0/5. chopping towards your self cutting towards your self and thats not even a good cut test you grabbed a bit of wet wood out of the river and started cutting it go feather a stick or something. btw i dont know very much about bush craft but even i can pick up on the things your doing wrong. my opinion just anohter person who buys a whole lot of knives and has no idea how to use them.
Good demo. Not every demo is meant to be thorough. Interesting to see a variety of knives in use.
Sweet knives!
nice to see your knives in use, these people dogging the video, i call them couch ninjas,lol, keep up the good work, we have to start somewhere.
except the shivers i get watching you cut towards your fingers, i also get this uncontrollable urge to pee from all that water sound. nice knives :D

In Japan, its called a "boys knife".
Japan Woodworker in the USA sells them. I got mine there.

was that a mora with the natural wooden handle?
These knives gave me gas, I can't believe they had that effect on me!
@shadowflight762 Actually they're practising bushcrafters who know how to safely use a blade.
What is the all steel knife at 50 seconds? Thanks
I believe he sharpens his knives on his own fingers.
what was the first one?
@atomdongle i agree
@atomdongle, i didnt watch the whole thing, and while i agree with you that its dumb how he cut that wood, he actually never did a full stroke toward his hand
If he wants to cut his hand off, let him. It's a lesson that will really stick with viewers!
hey mate i had the same knife at 4:39 cracked clean in half 1 more thing mind your knife handling your gonna lose a finger
Dangerous use of blades there, you really do need to learn your craft more, as they say "Don't try this at home children"
@shadowflight762 shouldn't of said couch ninjas in area such as this my bad, just giving props to a beginner, and true he does need to be more careful.
that was a helle
@jackrusselleko
Yeah...no, he doesn't.
its hard to show someone how good knives are when you have wet rotting wood...

TOWARDS YOUR FINGERS?????
@kendarko762 b/c 42,000 people have
Just like tad says: my story is I cut myself ONCE because I was being an idiot. I still have the scar. 0/5 for poor knife safety.

very awkward looking cuts... Being that close to the hard rocks is one thing, but also cutting towards your hands is another
Makes me go cold every time you cut towards your fingers! Don`t do it!
Lots of money spent on knives, no time learning how to use them. I don't even get what's supposed to be happening here.
