Places like this are one reason I loved my time in Japan. I was there from 1993 to 2015 in Sendai Miyagi, most of that time was very enjoyable...didn't care for the earthquakes, especially the 9.0 in 2011... but this barber is amazing. My wife's maternal grandfather was a barber...Sato the barber...never met him as he had passed well before I got there, I have two of his antique straight razors which probably come from around the same time as this barber shop in the video. When we left there were 10 minute 1000 yen barber shops popping up all over the place, I wonder how many customers this barber services in a day with the amount of time he spent just with this one gaijin customer, this is a fascinating glimpse in times gone by in Japan. Personally I would have fallen asleep 5 minutes in to this.

My Greek barber, now 84 years old , was using scissors always. For my already short hair he was working between 25'-30' . The result was always perfect 👍
I've never been to a barber in the US that could use scissors properly, and I've probably visited 24+ different barber shops over the years.. It's always straight to the electric clippers..truly a lost art here in the US..
When I was kid I got my hair cut by the same man my stepdad got his hair cut by his whole life. Kiki at sierras in downtown Sacramento. Never have I had a barber like him since always used scissors and if he used clippers I never seen a guard used on them. It was either scissors and a comb or clippers and a comb and the clippers were only used for portions of the haircut that the scissors wouldn’t be able to cut that low. I miss getting my hair cut there he’s retired now.

It’s almost like they asked him not to talk for the sake of the video 🤦♂️
The Japanese really do their job with devotion, this barber is a clear example that he does his job with love. ☺️
Can we talk about how this barber works his hands so hard his fingertips are bruised! Its insane how hard he must work. Damn good job
Must be from how long he spends washing the hair and such using his fingertips (and how vigorously he does so lol)
I wonder how he is able to do it for so long over all the years? Arthritis carpel tunnel etc. Just how?
When you do what you love, then it’s not seen as work.
That's not bruising. It's called "melanonychia" and causes discoloration in the fingernails.
