Places like this are one reason I loved my time in Japan. I was there from 1993 to 2015 in Sendai Miyagi, most of that time was very enjoyable...didn't care for the earthquakes, especially the 9.0 in 2011... but this barber is amazing. My wife's maternal grandfather was a barber...Sato the barber...never met him as he had passed well before I got there, I have two of his antique straight razors which probably come from around the same time as this barber shop in the video. When we left there were 10 minute 1000 yen barber shops popping up all over the place, I wonder how many customers this barber services in a day with the amount of time he spent just with this one gaijin customer, this is a fascinating glimpse in times gone by in Japan. Personally I would have fallen asleep 5 minutes in to this.
Japan needs to learn from the West and refuse mass immigration. Don't lose your high trust society. Countries like the United Kingdom used to have similar levels of social cohesion
I've never been to a barber in the US that could use scissors properly, and I've probably visited 24+ different barber shops over the years.. It's always straight to the electric clippers..truly a lost art here in the US..
My Greek barber, now 84 years old , was using scissors always. For my already short hair he was working between 25'-30' . The result was always perfect 👍
While I get you intent, noble prizes are for discoveries. Not a Mastery of an art I believe? I think a closer prize might be 'the Grammy of haircutting'
When I was kid I got my hair cut by the same man my stepdad got his hair cut by his whole life. Kiki at sierras in downtown Sacramento. Never have I had a barber like him since always used scissors and if he used clippers I never seen a guard used on them. It was either scissors and a comb or clippers and a comb and the clippers were only used for portions of the haircut that the scissors wouldn’t be able to cut that low. I miss getting my hair cut there he’s retired now.
I truly hope that he is not being exploited by eveyrone who records him. Doesn't seem like he has his own channel. He shows in random accounts, so I hope he is also compensated for his extraordinary work
21:30 akhirnya dia ngomong jg. Tegang juga situasinya wkwkwk. Apalagi bener² raw banget gunting rambutnya, ga pake alat lain, cuma gunting sama kerikan (sejauh 21 menit ini si, ga tau kesananya wkwk. Soalnya komen sambil di pause videonya) 🔥🔥. Goks

Can we talk about how this barber works his hands so hard his fingertips are bruised! Its insane how hard he must work. Damn good job
Must be from how long he spends washing the hair and such using his fingertips (and how vigorously he does so lol)
I wonder how he is able to do it for so long over all the years? Arthritis carpel tunnel etc. Just how?
When you do what you love, then it’s not seen as work.
That's not bruising. It's called "melanonychia" and causes discoloration in the fingernails.
@@johnnywhite26 And that usually happens because of bruising.
Yamaguchi-San is a legend.
If I ever end up in Japan sometime in the next few years, I am making it a point to seek out his shop.
Its hard to get a free spot with him. He is booked months in advance.

Barber was very meticulous and precise like a true master! That barbershop looked like a WWII era movie set. Felt old and very classic.
thanks to guy who made subtitles, i bet he put a lot of effort in this video.

I’d kill to have one
It's the time it takes for the haircut. Some places have scissor cuts but take an extra hour and cost 20 dollars more.

You can always move to another country!!
You must be an expert barber and should open a shop that solely uses clippers, be the change you want to see or stop complaining.
The Japanese really do their job with devotion, this barber is a clear example that he does his job with love. ☺️
In case no one knew, his son also works there and has his own YT channel. He works the evening shift so some very nice late evening cuts.
It must be incredible relaxing to be in the hands of such master, you know for a fact that he's going do to the best work
