@necatee Well Vintage Story was based off of TerrafirmaCraft but made standalone since it was taking too long to make with having to constantly re-build the mod with every update to modded minecraft... Plus the mod maker for years would just not update for long peroids since it was a pet project.

I'm so glad you are doing a current version of this modpack now cause I started playing it and all the videos on YT for this modpack are old and outdated so they are unhelpful on info for how to do certain things. My main struggle is finding water that doesn't make me sick...I think you need charcoal dust to make clean boiled water, at least from what I have read. Not sure if that is still accurate, but charcoal isn't easy to obtain early on from what I can tell. Looking forward to seeing more!
You just need to make a stack of logs in a hole, ignite it with a firestarter, and cover it up with some dirt/mud. After a couple of minutes you should have your charcoal layers in the hole.
Me and a friend started a server with this modpack a couple days ago... nice to see that we are not the only ones struggling at the start 😂 keep up the work and good luck (you will need it)
I think, unfortunately, you were unlucky as opposed to me being luck. Finding the Cassiterite so quickly was lucky, but outside of a desert, clay should not be that rare.
@@arcwolfgaming hello, unrelated question, when it comes to placing wood and straw into a pit kiln, what button do I press? The terrafirmacraft book says nothing about that and everything I tried didn't work
@@stevenandersen6989 should just be right click or shift + right click. it will not work unless all 4 blocks surrounding the pit kiln hole are full blocks, so no paths/slabs etc.

Great gameplay! This game seems very similar to Vintage Story with a lot of the game mechanics introduced by the modpack being basically the same, how curious!
Late reply, but the devs of Vintage Story were inspired by TFC, and I *believe*, though its possible I'm wrong, the devs of Vintage Story also worked on TFC, but were too limited by Minecraft and decided to make their own game, with more freedom to add more mechanics and better mod support (I would know, I'm a Vintage Story modder :3). I love Vintage Story, one of my favorite games of all time, and glad to see someone in the wild mentioning it.
I've been playing the external spin off game Vintage Story with the derived mechanics. I've also played an earlier version of the core mods. Good explanations.
Here’s a tip for inventories (this worked last I played 4 months ago) since the inventorio mod replaces your offhand you can use your vanilla offhand as an extra inventory slot.
@@arcwolfgaming it dose but you can still put items in the GUI slot, I dedicated it to food and medical supplies. Edit: You should also look into rebinding your scroll wheel to the utility hand and use the 1, 2, 3 key to access your hotbar. And its also possible to swap your utility had to your main hand so that the hotbar is effectively your offhand

Sorry to hear about your PC dying, hopefully you lose no data. Hardrock is definitely different from SeriousFirmaCraft, not looking forward to my first tornado, but none-the-less this will be fun.
@@arcwolfgaming lol, my first experience with tornados occurred when I just arrived home from herding a bunch of animals, tornado flung my cows and pigs all over the place x( As for my PC, complete data loss and basically had to wipe the SSD and I can't reactivate window( hate windows) so now I'm using Linux.
i never ever ever ever watch gameplay series but for some reason tfc hardrock calls to me and i really want to learn it so i will be watching all of these because it seems impossible to start without any good tfc or minecraft or all the other mod knowledge.

Vintage Story is partiality inspired by TerraFirmaCraft, also, there are only so many ways to represent "realistic" survival methods/techniques in video games.
I am so happy that TFC is still getting updates! WOW. Last time I played was like in 2014 and was obsessed with this mod. Question: did it change a lot over the years?
Last time I played prior to finding out it had a 1.18 version was back around 1.7. There are a few changes. I remember thatch blocks being solid so they were decent for a starter house, now the are non-solid (like the snow you can fall though in vanilla). The built in 'chisel and bits' analog is gone, so you need an additional mod to add that back. Seeds and food items don't use the old ounce system (the hardrock mod adds it back). And mobs nolonger spawn on the surface, only in caves by default, but you can change this in the configuration. There are probably other changes that I can not think of at the moment.
@@janpala5922 Depends on what you are looking for. If you want a lightly modded pack to get back into TFC, consider the "Essential TerraFirmaCraft" modpack. I would add Firmalife to it, but otherwise it's mostly just TFC with a few performance and QoL mods. Bonus that it's for 1.20.1 If you want something that will challenge you, consider Hardrock, TerraFirmaGreg or Gravitas2 (Gravitas2 is also 1.20.1, the others are 1.18.2), If you wan a mod pack built around the create mod, you have Auto-TerraFirmaCraft, which is smaller and will allow you to automate almost everything. Or SeriousFirmaCraft, where create helps speed up processing but you can not create infinite resource farms like you can with Auto-TFC. Both backs are for 1.18.2 And, for each pack i listed, with the exception of Essential, i believe there is a content creator currently or who recently did a series on the pack.

TFC is so interesting. Alas, as far as I know it's not under serious development any more. The devs decided to just make their own block survival game. If anyone's curious, it's basically like this, with Chisels and Bits as a vanilla feature. Other than that, some parts of the other block game are better, some are not, but that's why TFC has not kept up with Minecraft. Edit: Disregard my embarrassment please. Serves me right for not checking to see that Arcwolf has at least 39 episodes of a Vintage Story series. I am dumb. Anyone inspired by this video should check out VS via this creator's other vids!
Haha, I must correct you however. Vintage Story and TFC are not developed by the same person/group. TFC actually has a 1.20.1 version already and I am working on a modpack for it. But yes, If you like TFC i'm willing to bet you will like Vintage Story.
Yup, the aim is 1 episode a week. A few tips to find copper, though. 1) There are 3 types, native copper, malachite, and tetrahedite. Any are interchangeable. 2) if you can not find a surface vein, look in rivers for native copper deposits in gravel, it should be enough to get you a starter tool or 2. 3) if you are playing on hard rock or any pack that includes the "ore washing" mod, panning gravel is a slow yet reliable method of getting copper. 4) Once you have a prospectors pickaxe, walk around and every few blocks hit the ground. Sometimes you can get veins close to the surface without nuggets spawning. If you get a hit that is small, walk 13 blocks in any direction and try again. The propick checks in a 13 block radius around the blocked clicked, so knowing that you can triangle where the vein is. I aim to give a demonstration of the propick in Friday's video.
AUGH I wanted to play this one so bad, but it kept lagging and stuttering D: even after I dedicated like, 4 and a half GB.. 😔 excited to watch this series tho!! Gl!!!
In my case i reduce the render distance from 12 to 8 or 5 chunks and it helps a lot, the lag probably come from too many stones sticks grass laying around, also i disable shader since i read some player reported missing visual effects when under shader. For me the problem with the shader is it conflict with weather mod's cloud animation.
I'd succesfully boiled water with 2 stones, it seems that not all stones can be used to boil. the only problem i've struggling with is finding clay on hardrock even after searching for places with atleast 175 rain, still can't find plants that indicate clay, however i do find clay on lower rain area right under a small pond. How deep should we dig to get clay usually?? Anyway, good videos. I hope you continue this for a long time teaching new players man
Thanks :D I figured out the boiled water in my next episode. I don't think i let it boil long enough. As for the clay, it spawns on the surface and up to 3 blocks deep, so you do not have to dig up dirt to find it, if it's there it will be on the surface and visible.

Both picking up with right click & total darkness are mods in HardRock and not base TFC. TFC nights are darker by default, I think, but I turned up the brightness since I end up recording a lot of segments at night and if it's too dark it messed with video compression and it'll be difficult to see what I am doing.

how do i get minecraft to look like yours and get that sickenss effect to not swirl around like i get motion sickness from it, also your water and sunshafts look so much nicer
For this playthough i am using the Complementary Shaders - Unbound ( www.curseforge.com/minecraft/shaders/complementary-reimagined ). For minecraft 1.18 you need to use Rubidium ( www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/rubidium ) to get shaders to work nicely. For the sickness/swirling effect. Go you your Menu - > accessibility settings - > look for "distortion effects" and turn it down to 0 (zero) and you will get the green vignette instead of the swirling. Hope that helps.
How did you chane your log inventory icon to look like the blocks? For me they look like thin logs, which makes it difficult to figure out what they look like placed.

Hello! I just have a quick question. I just discovered this mod a bit ago so i'm having difficulties with the keys since i'm new to the whole modpack thing, I'm trying to place down vessels doing the shift click but it really isn't working, any idea why?
To place vessels or any item on the ground you need to press "v". This key is also bound to the toolbelt mod, so I recommend going into settings and changing it for the toolbelt mod since it should be a while before you get one.
If they are in the side slot you will auto-use them when you click on the appropriate block. So stone will default to a pick, a log will default to your axe, etc.
what do you mean delayed? Do you mean game lag? I've done many of the early game recipes soo many time I usually have them memorized so I don't have to stop and look them up or if I do, I know what I'm looking for which makes searching quicker.
@@Dujio_wqi game lagging is usually not having enough memory allocated to run TFC properly, I think 8gb of ram is the minimum recommendation, I have 16 gb allocated. If you are using curseforge, in the lower left you of the curesforge application window you should see a cog wheel. Click on that and then the minecraft icon, scroll to the bottom where it says "java settings" and "allocated memory". Assuming your computer has more then 8gb of ram, you will want to increase that allocated memory to be at least 8,192 MB (which is 8gb).
I have a request I don't seem to be able to install TFC in normal Minecraft mods as if I try to it wont load properly and only show 2 mods loaded which is forge and something else. Are you able to make a video process of installing TFC Thanks very much!.

I really want to play this, but when I click play in the launcher screen it says an unexpected error occured. I believe it is error 1. Any ideas, anyone?
for the pitkiln? right mouse click the logs onto the straw you already placed. you need 8 straw before you can add the logs. all 4 blocks surrounding the hole must be full blocks. So no path blocks , stairs or slabs.
Been searching for cassiterite for hours apon hours of real time and cannot find, read the terrafirmacraft book in game about where cassiterite spawns and still no luck. have any tips?
If you are playing HardRock, you can open your blazemap ('b' by default) to and check which rock strata you are in to make sure cassiterite can spawn there. Once you do that you can open your world map ('m' by default) and zoom all the way in and look at all the pixels that are visible on the map. By hovering of the pixel with your mouse curser it will say what the item is, example "loam dirt grass". You can than look for anything that does not match the color of grass on the map and hover over it and see what it is. Every rock and nugget that spawns on the surface is visible on the map this way. You can do this and find cassiterite w/o having to actually walk around looking at every rock on the ground. Not exactly friendly on the eyes, but quicker then walking around looking. Works best in open areas since trees and leaves obscure the ground. Other then that, once you have a prospectors pick you can walk around right clicking the ground as you go and you can occasionally find deposits that way. No every deposit has nugget on the surface, but every nugget on the surface is over a deposit.
This modpack is only for 1.18.2, though they are working on a 1.20.2 version. The main mod TerraFirmaCraft has a 1.20.2 version as do some of the addon mods. There are currently no plan for a 1.20.6 version of TerraFirmaCraft, but there will be future versions.
yes, there is an item you can craft, each time you craft it it will unlock one slot. I'll mention it in Ep 04, only learned about it after finishing my latest episode.

look for a ore called Cassiterite. You can find it in gravel called "Native Cassiterite deposit" or you can find it in areas with a primary stone type of granite, diorite or gabbro.
I have wanted to mention that the bronzes are different. Bismuth bronze is the worst, tin bronze is the middle, black bronze is the best.
Same in Vintage Story.

Last time I played was like in 2014 and was obsessed with this mod.
Question: did it change a lot over the years?
Last time I played prior to finding out it had a 1.18 version was back around 1.7. There are a few changes. I remember thatch blocks being solid so they were decent for a starter house, now the are non-solid (like the snow you can fall though in vanilla). The built in 'chisel and bits' analog is gone, so you need an additional mod to add that back. Seeds and food items don't use the old ounce system (the hardrock mod adds it back). And mobs nolonger spawn on the surface, only in caves by default, but you can change this in the configuration. There are probably other changes that I can not think of at the moment.

@@janpala5922 Depends on what you are looking for. If you want a lightly modded pack to get back into TFC, consider the "Essential TerraFirmaCraft" modpack. I would add Firmalife to it, but otherwise it's mostly just TFC with a few performance and QoL mods. Bonus that it's for 1.20.1
If you want something that will challenge you, consider Hardrock, TerraFirmaGreg or Gravitas2 (Gravitas2 is also 1.20.1, the others are 1.18.2),
If you wan a mod pack built around the create mod, you have Auto-TerraFirmaCraft, which is smaller and will allow you to automate almost everything. Or SeriousFirmaCraft, where create helps speed up processing but you can not create infinite resource farms like you can with Auto-TFC. Both backs are for 1.18.2
And, for each pack i listed, with the exception of Essential, i believe there is a content creator currently or who recently did a series on the pack.

TFC is so interesting. Alas, as far as I know it's not under serious development any more. The devs decided to just make their own block survival game. If anyone's curious, it's basically like this, with Chisels and Bits as a vanilla feature. Other than that, some parts of the other block game are better, some are not, but that's why TFC has not kept up with Minecraft.
Edit: Disregard my embarrassment please. Serves me right for not checking to see that Arcwolf has at least 39 episodes of a Vintage Story series. I am dumb. Anyone inspired by this video should check out VS via this creator's other vids!
Haha, I must correct you however. Vintage Story and TFC are not developed by the same person/group. TFC actually has a 1.20.1 version already and I am working on a modpack for it. But yes, If you like TFC i'm willing to bet you will like Vintage Story.

Yup, the aim is 1 episode a week. A few tips to find copper, though. 1) There are 3 types, native copper, malachite, and tetrahedite. Any are interchangeable.
2) if you can not find a surface vein, look in rivers for native copper deposits in gravel, it should be enough to get you a starter tool or 2.
3) if you are playing on hard rock or any pack that includes the "ore washing" mod, panning gravel is a slow yet reliable method of getting copper.
4) Once you have a prospectors pickaxe, walk around and every few blocks hit the ground. Sometimes you can get veins close to the surface without nuggets spawning. If you get a hit that is small, walk 13 blocks in any direction and try again. The propick checks in a 13 block radius around the blocked clicked, so knowing that you can triangle where the vein is.
I aim to give a demonstration of the propick in Friday's video.
the old nausea effect could absolutely cause motion sickness. Not sure how the green aura would though
the green aura is what you get when you turn off distortion from the old nausea effect. That is what I did, turned off distortion.

AUGH I wanted to play this one so bad, but it kept lagging and stuttering D: even after I dedicated like, 4 and a half GB.. 😔 excited to watch this series tho!! Gl!!!
In my case i reduce the render distance from 12 to 8 or 5 chunks and it helps a lot, the lag probably come from too many stones sticks grass laying around, also i disable shader since i read some player reported missing visual effects when under shader. For me the problem with the shader is it conflict with weather mod's cloud animation.
I'd succesfully boiled water with 2 stones, it seems that not all stones can be used to boil. the only problem i've struggling with is finding clay on hardrock even after searching for places with atleast 175 rain, still can't find plants that indicate clay, however i do find clay on lower rain area right under a small pond. How deep should we dig to get clay usually??

Thanks :D I figured out the boiled water in my next episode. I don't think i let it boil long enough.
As for the clay, it spawns on the surface and up to 3 blocks deep, so you do not have to dig up dirt to find it, if it's there it will be on the surface and visible.

I think I found the issue. I switched from Streamlabs OBS to just plain OBS a few weeks ago and forgot to change my bitrate from 3k to 6k.

I got recommended your most recent TFC video last night and I've been watching the series (currently just finished episode 8) and am enjoying it very much! My literal only complaint is that you're focusing soooo much on progression that your house plans / roman villa thing still haven't amounted to anything and you're still just outside on the floor with everything so far, though there are more episodes left for me to watch so hopefully that gets remedied :)
i feel that you can edit the settings where right click is picking up items. and isn't in TFC the lighting when night is total darkness?
Both picking up with right click & total darkness are mods in HardRock and not base TFC. TFC nights are darker by default, I think, but I turned up the brightness since I end up recording a lot of segments at night and if it's too dark it messed with video compression and it'll be difficult to see what I am doing.

how do i get minecraft to look like yours and get that sickenss effect to not swirl around like i get motion sickness from it, also your water and sunshafts look so much nicer
For this playthough i am using the Complementary Shaders - Unbound ( www.curseforge.com/minecraft/shaders/complementary-reimagined ). For minecraft 1.18 you need to use Rubidium ( www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/rubidium ) to get shaders to work nicely.
For the sickness/swirling effect. Go you your Menu - > accessibility settings - > look for "distortion effects" and turn it down to 0 (zero) and you will get the green vignette instead of the swirling.

How did you chane your log inventory icon to look like the blocks? For me they look like thin logs, which makes it difficult to figure out what they look like placed.

Hello! I just have a quick question. I just discovered this mod a bit ago so i'm having difficulties with the keys since i'm new to the whole modpack thing, I'm trying to place down vessels doing the shift click but it really isn't working, any idea why?
To place vessels or any item on the ground you need to press "v". This key is also bound to the toolbelt mod, so I recommend going into settings and changing it for the toolbelt mod since it should be a while before you get one.

If they are in the side slot you will auto-use them when you click on the appropriate block. So stone will default to a pick, a log will default to your axe, etc.

what do you mean delayed? Do you mean game lag? I've done many of the early game recipes soo many time I usually have them memorized so I don't have to stop and look them up or if I do, I know what I'm looking for which makes searching quicker.

@@Dujio_wqi game lagging is usually not having enough memory allocated to run TFC properly, I think 8gb of ram is the minimum recommendation, I have 16 gb allocated.
If you are using curseforge, in the lower left you of the curesforge application window you should see a cog wheel. Click on that and then the minecraft icon, scroll to the bottom where it says "java settings" and "allocated memory". Assuming your computer has more then 8gb of ram, you will want to increase that allocated memory to be at least 8,192 MB (which is 8gb).

how i can put the loogs down to put on fier the pots
for the pitkiln? right mouse click the logs onto the straw you already placed. you need 8 straw before you can add the logs. all 4 blocks surrounding the hole must be full blocks. So no path blocks , stairs or slabs.
Been searching for cassiterite for hours apon hours of real time and cannot find, read the terrafirmacraft book in game about where cassiterite spawns and still no luck. have any tips?
If you are playing HardRock, you can open your blazemap ('b' by default) to and check which rock strata you are in to make sure cassiterite can spawn there. Once you do that you can open your world map ('m' by default) and zoom all the way in and look at all the pixels that are visible on the map. By hovering of the pixel with your mouse curser it will say what the item is, example "loam dirt grass". You can than look for anything that does not match the color of grass on the map and hover over it and see what it is. Every rock and nugget that spawns on the surface is visible on the map this way. You can do this and find cassiterite w/o having to actually walk around looking at every rock on the ground. Not exactly friendly on the eyes, but quicker then walking around looking. Works best in open areas since trees and leaves obscure the ground.
Other then that, once you have a prospectors pick you can walk around right clicking the ground as you go and you can occasionally find deposits that way. No every deposit has nugget on the surface, but every nugget on the surface is over a deposit.

This modpack is only for 1.18.2, though they are working on a 1.20.2 version. The main mod TerraFirmaCraft has a 1.20.2 version as do some of the addon mods. There are currently no plan for a 1.20.6 version of TerraFirmaCraft, but there will be future versions.

Does the inventory get unlocked later into the game?
yes, there is an item you can craft, each time you craft it it will unlock one slot. I'll mention it in Ep 04, only learned about it after finishing my latest episode.

look for a ore called Cassiterite. You can find it in gravel called "Native Cassiterite deposit" or you can find it in areas with a primary stone type of granite, diorite or gabbro.
