Ok, I know it's been a while since this video was posted but I have a question installed mine just fine, that was 2 years ago, now I have a problem that it seems thousands of people are having, which is that the internal battery is about dead now, it works fine when it's warm but when it's called it's dead, when someone rings the doorbell and the chime goes off the nest disconnects and shits off for about 30 seconds and then comes back on, would a USB cable hooked to the USB port substitute for the battery so this way it won't shut off when it's rung? The easy solution is to turn off the chime, I have over a dozen of Google's speakers and displays but I'd rather have the che working, can it be done?
Thank you for this video bro. Really helpful. I can say I will be able to do most of this but I wanted to see all this info in a good video before hand. Thanks
Glad to help...when I do this type of video, I always struggle with "how much is too much" when it comes to the details. I personally don't mind long, detailed videos...but not everyone does.
I didn't realize that I had a battery operated doorbell so I most definitely need the power adapter. Thanks for this video. My main question is the chime. I have a Google home and 2 nest mini's. Do all of them chime when the door bell is rung or do I need something else I'm missing?
If I remember correctly, you can set it to ring on any of the Home devices you have. Mine rings on the Home hub and all of the minis throughout the house. That way I can hear it no matter what room I'm in.
Nice camera system but Google stuff makes me wonder regarding privacy since all they do is gather info on us...That is just paranoid me though....Good detailed info as I appreciate it....Good stuff....
Yeah, I feel you, but unfortunately that's the trade-off for the convenience of smart devices...they are always listening/watching. The only way around it is to stay unplugged...and even then, the people around you have devices that are listening/watching.
@@BigSwedesExcellentAdventure So true and these days you need cameras to watch over what you have built thru the years to keep protected....Good stuff...
How did you connect the nest doorbell to show on the hun when someone rings the doorbell (for example- when you ring it and it displayed daddy is at the front door) and how did you get it to sound on the minis? We have it all but unsure to connect it to the hun ir minis #SOS
In the Nest app go to settings, choose the doorbell (if you have multiple nest products) there should be a section called "Visitor Announcements". Click that and toggle it on. From that point all your Nest connected speakers should ring and say "Someone is at the front door" when someone rings it. Hopefully this helps.
so you don't need to buy chime? because in the google website it says a chime is needed if we don't have a previous wired doorbell. i have a nest hub like yours, so glad to see you can use them as a chime
Hey brother I just got mine and I'm waiting for the adapter.. question ⁉️ so I can just hook it up to the app and use my phone I don't need to hook it up to the chime or nothing?
You don't have to hook it up to a chime if you don't want to or if you don't have one. I use my Nest Hub and Minis throughout the house as my "chime"...but your phone will give you notifications too through the Nest app when it sees someone or someone rings the bell.
I can't seem to sync my google hub to my google nest, soo don't work when someone rings doorbell,, but I can say whos at door and it show me who's at the door
I had a doorbell transformer installed but I do not have a chime because I have Google Home. When I’m in the nest app it ask me about a chime. How do I set it up without a regular chine? Do I have to use the little white puck device?
You probably COULD, but it would be less secure...all someone would have to do is unplug it/cut the wire and your doorbell camera no longer works. Unless you can hide the wiring really well, I wouldn't go that route.
@@BigSwedesExcellentAdventure I ended up just running a transformer, and some stat wire to the doorbell. I got my dad the hello and my mom the google hub so they don’t need a chime.
While you probably could, because of where the micro usb port is, you would have to significantly modify the mounting plate (cut a hole for the usb plug). Much easier to just connect the wires to the terminals.
@@BigSwedesExcellentAdventure I have a doorbell, but I don’t see a chime inside? How can i get a chime n plug it on a power outlet likt the Ring Door bell has,?
Awesome video, thank you so much! The adapter you’re using is out of stock everywhere. Does it have to be that exact adaptor or can you suggest another option?
Vape or Die even connected to doorbell transformer the light on mine is always on, but gets dim when there is no movement. There may be an option to turn it off, but I find it useful to let people coming know where to press the doorbell.
This one I bought off of the Google store, but its out of stock. If you search Amazon for Nest doorbell plug in transformer, several will come up in the results.
You could. I tucked the excess out of sight, so it wasn't a problem for me, but if that isn't an option, cutting the excess would work as long as you're comfortable modifying the cable.
This is what I've been looking for. Thank you sir!
Thanks for the video! Thanks to you, I just bought a nest hello from Walmart! Going to order the drill bit and power adapter shortly!

thank you. this is really helpful. At this point, I don't like to wire the bell ..we live in old house. I will go with Ring then.

Yeah I have it set to where my Home Hub and all my Home Minis ring when the doorbell is pressed.
with this hello nest video doorbell, do need to buy separately also the chime?
Excellent. Thank you. Very helpful.

Can I set up my google mini to ring when the button is pressed? I don't have a hub right now...
Yes, all of my minis throughout the house ring when the button is pressed
I can't seem to sync my google hub to my google nest, soo don't work when someone rings doorbell,, but I can say whos at door and it show me who's at the door
Temper it and all is great!

If you are going to use the Home as your chime, you shouldn't need it.
Does anybody know of a UK supplier for the adaptor?
Can you install the power adapter to a water proof outlet outside?
Reason why I ask is because I don’t have any outlets even close to the front door, and I don’t really feel like doing drywall and electrical work.
You probably COULD, but it would be less secure...all someone would have to do is unplug it/cut the wire and your doorbell camera no longer works. Unless you can hide the wiring really well, I wouldn't go that route.

@@BigSwedesExcellentAdventure but thank you for your help
If I get a professional to do it, do I still need to buy the power adapter?
Depends if you want him to wire it directly to you electrical panel or if you going to use the power adapter
Thanks so much for the easy installation video. This may be a stupid question but can I just use the micro usb port for power instead?
While you probably could, because of where the micro usb port is, you would have to significantly modify the mounting plate (cut a hole for the usb plug). Much easier to just connect the wires to the terminals.
So no need for chime? We can wire direct to the doorbell?
You can wire it to a chime, but you don't have to...I use my Google Home hub and my Google Home minis as my doorbell chimes.

Jump on Amazon and search for "Nest Doorbell 24v transformer" and you'll get a bunch of different available options.
Great Video Bro.... im just starting may nest family lol$$$$$$$$$
Smart devices definitely start to add up...I'm currently equipping the house with smart lighting. Phillips Hue lights are pricey.

Can you cut the excess cable, and strip the ends?
