Wow! Thank you, Terry! You did an absolutely wonderful job of going through everything for the installation of the Google Nest Hello doorbell. I watched your video in its entirety as a preview, and then paused it as I went through the steps again during my own installation. You lifted all the stress off my shoulders as I found your helpful explanations and demonstrations to be spot-on. I just can’t thank you enough, Terry!
Watched your video as we are considering a new video doorbell. You sir are very helpful and articulate! We loved how you show the manufacturer’s instructions and then demonstrate them. Nice job!
Thank you for the install and setup video. I will be installing a Nest Hello soon and I had questions that thanks to you I believe have the answers now. Thanks again.
@@theinternetelectrician Hello Terry, I am in Arizona and my home was built in 2015. My question: When I hook up my Nest video camera/doorbell, and turn power back on my door bell just keeps blabbering on/off without even the nest hello power adapter being hooked up. I have the type of bell that plays somewhat of a melody. Thanks in advance, any tips would help.

May I ask why you had to locate the transformer? Unless I missed it, you didn't need it to connect the doorbell. Excellent video btw. I like to see installations before I buy and you made this look pretty easy. Thanks!!
I just wanted to do a complete installation showing all the functionality of the Nest Hello. Locating the transformer is prudent just so you know where it is should it ever need to be replaced, and to check that it is of the proper specifications recommended.
Thanks for outlining all the steps. Why do you need to locate the transformer since we are not making any wiring change there? My door bell has both a front and a back button. If I replace the front one with a Nest, will the back one still work?
Great Video. FYI, My Doorbell is on the same circuit as my Furnace. Go figure. Guess that was easier than installing the doorbell's dedicated low voltage power supply.
How has the Nest Hello faired in your hot weather? Has it survived? Where I am in Texas and where I would put the door bell it would get quite a bit of sun and temps go from 33 degrees to 80 degrees during the winter. Summer we can get to 100 easy.
Thanks for the informative video. I also live in AZ near PHX. How is the unit withstanding the heat? I'm always concerned about the brutal summer heat will fry the unit.
Hi, sorry for the question, I am trying to do it his in my own but not sure if I am supposed to turn off the power of the whole house? Sorry, I’ve never done this before and will like for my son and I to feel more secure at the house.
No need to turn off the power for the entire house. If you can determine what individual breaker feeds the circuit that your doorbell transformer is on then great, only turn off that circuit. But it's not all that common to include the transformer in listing what is on each circuit. But for example, if you find the transformer in the garage, or near your panel, it will likely be on the circuit that controls the lights and receptacles in that room, or if it's by the panel it might be on a circuit called the panel receptacle, or something similar. If you can't easily figure out what the breaker is, or can't find the transformer, just shut off one breaker at a time and see if the doorbell still works or not. When it quits, you've found it. Also, the voltage from the transformer is very low, usually 16 volts. Not that you should ever work on something without shutting off the power, but 16V is something that most people would not even feel by touching it directly. That's why we power circuits like this with low voltage so if that cheap doorbell button breaks and the wires are exposed, you're not going to get any kind of a harmful shock from it.
Great video. Thanks. Just my experience. Turns out that my doorbell was being powered by two different circuits. Started out switching one breaker at a time off then ring the bell then switching it back on. The bell never went dead for all the breakers. Next I turned off all the breakers. the bell was dead. Switched on each breaker (one at a time) then rang the bell then switched it off. When I got to a breaker that rang the bell, I made a note of the breaker number then switched it off and went to the next breaker. When I finished, I noted that two breakers controlled the bell. BTW, my wife was at the front door with her cell phone and I was at the breaker box with my cell phone. NO, I wasn't running back and forth.
Did you locate the bell transformer? I'd be interested to know where the cross-connection is between 2 separate circuits. That should be investigated further.
Hi Terry just watching your great video on Nest Hello installation. I'm trying to figure out the wiring on installing without a chime. Is that small round unit a new chime or is it a wifi antenna,, do I also need to buy a chime unit. I have a transformer and have some electrical experience. Thanks!!!
I installed my Nest doorbell without a chime, i ignored the little white chime adapter disc and simply connected up 24vac into the back of the Nest doorbell. When i opened the little white disc to see what was in it, the first thing which surprised me was that the two grey wires were connected together and likewise the two white wires, and there is no wifi in it, it’s just a clever little device which sits in series with the ac power feed to divert power to the chime for moment when the bellpush is pressed, so since i have google in all rooms and i don’t need a chime thatks why i just left it out of my install
I used drywall anchors, but what was mostly needed was some caulking / adhesive. Very difficult to attach to a stucco wall like this so you just make it work however you can. I would appreciate it if you like, subscribe, and click the bell as well (if you already did, thanks!) It really helps us creators gain traction with TH-cam.
When you said 15 feet of the camera does it mean that the camera rotates towards the person that came to your house. Also what should I do if the placement of my camera is not able to be looking at the person entering my house.
As for anchors, remember if you can't find a good anchor to fit the space you can use anything pliable that will allow the screw to get a good bite. I've used toothpicks and chop sticks, used rat tails cut off from zip ties, you can even use scrap bits of wire - just cut them to a reasonable length, fit as many in the hole as possible and secure your project.
Good advice! Yes, sometimes you just do what it takes to make it work! Chewing gum! (but the double-bubble kind that gets so hard after a few chews that is almost breaks you jaw) :-)
I think it would work to just follow the steps for connecting to the chime unit, but using the rear doorbell terminal for the second unit. Then parallel connections on the 2 units for the common connections. I would reach out to NEST however to confirm if this will work or not before purchasing.
@@theinternetelectrician To do the installation of the second Nest Hello, you need to upgrade the transformer. My first Nest Hello works. But, I have to relocate to further upfront since I built the front porch. In addition, I have to pre wire for the second Nest Hello.
I am looking for some help! I hooked up my doorbell but I had a short in my wire, so when I put power to it my doorbell didn't show a blue light and the transformer was shorted out. Did that short out the camera too? Is there a way to test it, the transformers are fairly expensive...
I just got a nest hello as a gift. I'll be installing it this weekend using your video but I was curious if the nest connect is needed because I dont have one of those. You mentioned it at 17: 29. Thoughts?
I wasted time looking for my transformer! Just tested voltage with my multimeter at the door bell. It was 18 volts. So good to go! They only have u check the voltage output of the transformer.
You didn't waste time. You learned something about your house. It's your responsibility to know everything about your house. Why? Because it's YOUR house and YOU are responsible for its well-being. That being said, there are plenty of short cuts you can take in installing this stuff. But when stuff goes wrong you always have to reduce to checking everything, which means finding everything. Wait til you have to find a tv splitter that's embedded in the ceiling of your finished basement...
Hi Terry, great video. I have the exact same setup (chime style, transformer, etc), except for the double wires. However, when I made these installations, the chime box had a buzz and eventually one of the chime posts popped off. I also noticed a smell, as if something was burning. I turned off the power and disconnected the wires. No clue what to do from here though! Any suggestions??
Great video, thank you. Can you please add a little bit about using the wedge bracket that came with the camera. How to install and when needed. Thanks
You just use the wedge as a back plate and on the angel required to best see the person at the door. As in my example, if the button was closer to the door then I would have needed it to get a better angle to where a person would likely stand while waiting.
@@theinternetelectrician Yes, thank you. I had already figured it out, but no one had a demonstration of the bracket that I could find when trying to install it. Thank you for responding.. Great video..
If you can't locate your transformer could you check the voltage on the doorbell wires? Or maybe the voltage across trans and front door while the button is pressed?

can't remember exactly what anchors I ended up using, but it wasn't pretty and the only thing that saved the installation was the caulking to basically glue everything together and then the bead around the base is probably what's holding it in place more than anything. I changed my email address and wonder if it’s something to do with that. I can no longer access that account. I have signed up to Google aware, useless, sends you round in circles, I can’t email or speak to anyone and I am not very technically aware. Any help would be gratefully received
I am having an issue with connecting the Nest Video Door Bell to my office and a 2nd one at my home. it seems that I can only add one video Door bell to one structure. Any solutions for that?

That’s fine and dandy for a 2 wire hookup , the transformer wire and the doorbell wire. Now show us what wires to hook up with an older 60’s model chime having 5 instead of 2 connectors .
Do they attempt to ring? Can you hear a humming or buzzing when the button is pushed? I'm thinking maybe the wires are jamming up the striker plungers?

I'm getting feedback. When someone comes to the door and I speak, my voice is echoed back to the person answering the phone. Did a hard reset on nest hello. happens on 3 different android phone. can you help
What did you do to resolve this this? Didn't understand what was happening exactly. Did you by chance have a phone on u conned to the same door bell when you rang the doorbell?
Just to verify the output voltage is in the range needed for the Nest, and you can check the voltage with your meter at the transformer terminals to ensure you shut off the correct breaker for the 120V circuit that it is fed from. It's always good to know where it is in case it should ever fail.
@@bybcous If the transformer failed, it would just put out no voltage. You can verify that you have the correct breaker feeding the transformer just by checking if the doorbell works, then doesn't with the breaker off.
Had the Nest doorbell for four years and it’s simply the worst. Do not purchase a Nest doorbell. After suffering with this doorbell for many years, I finally switched to the Ring Pro wired. 100 times better than Nest, far more features, great app, and quick notifications.
No, but they sell a standalone power supply that can be used in place of a transformer. store.google.com/us/product/ninety7_indoor_power_adapter_nest_hello
Bought this one because the older version th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQ had was really choppy and would disconnect from the wifi ALOT, was not catching everything and every week j had to charge it. So far the picture quality on this one is exceptional. I also bought a solar panel with it so I will see how this all turns out.

You don't, you can purchase a separate doorbell transformer that plugs into an outlet. There are many on amazon, but I chose to order the Ninety7 Indoor Power Adapter directly from the Google Store. store.google.com/us/product/ninety7_indoor_power_adapter_nest_hello

Can anyone help me with a problem with my nest doorbell. I’ve followed a reinstall after going round in circles on the google app. Very good video, very clear and precise. However my problem is that although the doorbell has been mine from new it says it’s connected to another account. Unfortunately I don’t remember what that account was.
Because when I add a product and scan in my door 2nd doorbell at home or office.. it does not connect.. but when I "remove device" a home, my office will allow to install , and vise-versa. Any solutions for that?
Followed your tutorial step by step but when it is all connected my chime buzzes and it looks like one of the plungers is trying to ring. Any ideas on how to fix this?
I can't think of anything that might cause that offhand, no.
My friend who's a maintenance engineer at a university assured me 18 volts would do nothing to a human. Takes over like 30 volts to have an issues.
He is correct. It's just better to get into the habit of turning off the power.
In my case, I also have 2 wires on FRONT and TRANS, but they are too thick to wind together to get into the white clip. Any tips?
splice and pig-tail to a piece of #18 solid wire?
Yes splice and then call ghost busters..
Hi. Great video. How can I install the Nest Hello doorbell WITHOUT a chime? Do I need to use the chime connector? This is new installation (did not have an existing doorbell) but I will chime through my Google Mini instead. Thank you!
You just wire directly to the transformer.
What if you have two doer bells on the same ringer and you are only changing the front doobell
We live on a busy street, and our Nest Hello will be facing the street. Will the motion detector page us every time a car goes by, or can we adjust the sensitivity to only notify us when someone is walking up the walk?
What about ghosts???🤓
How about sexy women walked by?
Hi Terry, I am curious if you are using Android or iPhone. I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max and find it is limited on the notifications. If you are using an iPhone how did you set it up to have voice announcing someone at your door? I can get notifications to come up but have no way that I am aware of to change the sound of the notification.
I have an old Nokia flip phone..can or will it work..???🤔
I like the video. I wish we didn’t focus so much on the transformer, since we never need to touch it. Just turn off it’s circuit breaker.
You should really mention shutting off the circuit that powers the doorbell first before anything. Because I'm an idiot. Other than that, great video. - Eyebrowless Steve
True dat! My bad for not mentioning that.
Have a existing Nest hello Door bell. Came with house I bought from previous owner. Everytime I try to pair it gives me Error NC029 . I’ve reset this multiple times and tried different phone or iPad. Any tips????
There is a code came with new Nest Hello. That is why your phone would not work. Call the previous owner to see you can get the code.
That’s fine and dandy for a 2 wire hookup , the transformer wire and the doorbell wire. Now show us what wires to hook up with an older 60’s model chime having 5 instead of 2 connectors .
you can't use that chime or transformer probably. You'd have to buy new ones.
Replace with new Chime and transformer.
I followed the instructions verbatim. When done, the chimes on the mechanical doorbell no longer worked. Any ideas?
Do they attempt to ring? Can you hear a humming or buzzing when the button is pushed? I'm thinking maybe the wires are jamming up the striker plungers?
Terry Peterman No noise at all. Nothing. I left the cover off to make sure that the wires weren’t obstructing the plungers
@@JohnLBeck hmm. Not sure then?
Is there a reset button on doorbells? Also, is there a way to get a chime on the phone?
Can I assume that since the Nest doorbell is working that the transformer is OK and perhaps it is the doorbell itself that went dead?
Mine was right over the light in the washroom!
Terry, I have a hampton bay wired/wireless doorbell from Home depot. It suggests using a diode at the regular doorbell. When you connect the nest, does it still need the diode? Thanks
If the Nest Hello doesn't power up does that mean there's not enough voltage to the doorbell?
I would think so.
Good video i ordered a ring peep hole camera However I want to cancel the order and get nest door bell and connect it this way, I don’t have any google products but is my iPhone enough? Also my door way is like this door way we’re it’s not flush to the wall so some wall will block the view which I don’t like. Can you save videos as well to your phone ? Because I could not find anything about that
I'm getting feedback.
Why do I need to find the actual transformer, I dodnt see you connect anything to it during the install
Thankyou so much for help, installing now, going smoothly
Had the Nest doorbell for four years and it’s simply the worst. Do not purchase a Nest doorbell. After suffering with this doorbell for many years, I finally switched to the Ring Pro wired. 100 times better than Nest, far more features, great app, and quick notifications.
Not sure why we needed to find the transformer as it appeared it wasn’t involved in the installation.
can this be used with a battery pack if I do not have an existing door bell.
No, but they sell a standalone power supply that can be used in place of a transformer. store.google.com/us/product/ninety7_indoor_power_adapter_nest_hello
Why do I need to know where the Chime Transformer is? You don't show that anything needs done to it.
the challenge with nest doorbell is chime, you didn't mention it
My Transformer is above hallway light .
We want to remove the video doorbell, how do we remove the front panel from the bracket. There wasn't a special tool as you mentioned in your video
Try using a SIM card tool.
Any subscriptions?
Drop the screwdriver. Use backup. Got it. I can do this.
Had to go with the flow there!
You cannot drop the screw driver if you worked on NASA.
I have a wireless doorbell so rip
Never checked voltage from transformer.
it shows 16V on the Transformer and the Chime
What is the purpose of the Power Kit? can I install without it?
Could you reupload it but with the Wii Mii Channel theme?
Here is also a great view of the nest Door bell th-cam.com/video/U96VBAI-r6Q/w-d-xo.html
Ok well I did not read anywhere when I bought it that you had to have an existing doorbell geezuz.
You don't, you can purchase a separate doorbell transformer that plugs into an outlet. There are many on amazon, but I chose to order the Ninety7 Indoor Power Adapter directly from the Google Store. store.google.com/us/product/ninety7_indoor_power_adapter_nest_hello
Yes, thanks for providing this useful supplemental information!
Like NEST products and app. Google Home app.not so much. Nest is more expensibe but qualituy to ring doea not compare. Ring is hirrible.
Thanks for watching! I hope that you also subscribed to my channel, and clicked the bell? Much appreciated!
