Is there anyone who can tell me if its possible to change a rifle from 1 joule to maybe 2 or 3 joules... so I can break glass bottles... I have intruders... I dont need a real gun... but I would love a strong airsoft gun...??
@@modo7911 it's been 11 months since your comment and you had intruders while making the comment, hence the "I have intruders" its probably to late now. They either had there way with you or you figured it out in the nick of time. Hopefully the later.
So, just to piggyback on what he's saying for those of you who are more curious, the effect he's describing is known in Physics as the Magnus Effect. The Magnus Effect occurrs when backspin is applied to a cylinder or spheroid, while in forward motion. Much like a wing, the backspin causes the air above the spheroid (in this case a BB) to be of low pressure, and the air below to be of high pressure, which results in lift. As one may imagine, the friction between the air and the surface of the BB, called drag, causes the BB to slow down in velocity and rotation over time, resulting in the eventual drop. So what the hopup is actually doing is turning your BB's into little bitty wings you shoot at people.
actually its more complicated than that. the way the BB generates lift is actually the opposite of how an airplane does it. an airplane wing creates a situation in which air above the wing is traveling faster than the air below. since faster-moving air applies less, orthogonal (perpendicular) force than slow-moving air, there is a force imbalance and the plane rises. Now, backspin on a BB actually will cause the air on top to move SLOWER relative to the BB. this is because the TOP half of the BB's surface is spinning backward "with the air" for lack of a better term. Meanwhile, the bottom of the BB is spinning "into the air" again for lack of better phrasing. this means that the BB should actually fall faster... but it doesn't, as we all know. I don't remember the specific physical principle that causes this but i know its VERY complicated math (i am a 4th year engineering student). what i do know is its the same thing that affects a curveball in baseball.
@@GhostsnypePS3 the proces of magnus effect is more as joe diskribed it that back spin make low presure on top by moving air faster and on bottom spining in to the air it is slowing down air and create high pressure.
I do know that the force that pulls a spinning bullet up and toward the direction of rotation of the projectile is called the magnus force or effect. Certainly similar but I'm not sure it's identical but I think it's great you've even heard of the magnus effect. Another pet peeve of mine is when people try telling me that 5.56mm/.223 rounds actually rise then fall. And I say no it's that the barrel is pointing upwards and your point of aim will match up at your near zero then again with far zero. It's called a parabolic and that's why the bullets "appear" to rise on their own. End rant 😆.

w4stedspace honestly. You covered a lot. I would like to see a buying guide for a good beginner loadout. With so many guns to chose from it is really confusing to know which rifle to pick. I would like to see you opinion on which brand and which variation of rifle maybe is good for a starter. Maybe using price points. 1-200$ range, 200-300$ range. What's the difference between certain ones, what to look for in a good rifle, the up and downs of certain types. This would be so helpful.

The way the BB's spin and fly is actually called the "Magnus Effect"... Veritasium actually has a great video explaining the Magnus Effect... If you don't want to search, just add this, watch?v=2OSrvzNW9FE, to the end of the .com/ in your browser... Your correct on the proper flight path however even in a stock AEG, with it tuned properly you should be able to easily reach out close to 200ft... 20-60ft = 0% hop 60-100ft = 5-20% hop 100-300ft = 20-100% hopThis variance allows for different builds... Poor quality or stock builds will be on the lower end and higher quality builds will be on the higher end, and extremely high performance HPA and Bolt actions being able to reach 300-350ft. Also keep in mind BB weights. While a 0.12g bb will fly faster, its far from accurate at range and wont fly as far do to its light weight, where as a 0.30g bb will fly slower but fly farther and more accurately...

Great video. If I only saw it 2 days earlier, before I started working on my non-adjustable sights of BB pistol. But the thing is, when you buy an airgun it doesn't say anywhere on the box about hop up system present. Anyway, thanks for the video.
I have to say... the bb isn't spinning "against the gravity force"... is the friction with the air wich make it to "go up" instead of falling down right after leave the barrel...
A good pair of informative videos W4sted! I'd have appreciated simple but well structured advice like this when I first got into airsoft. this is greatm really helpful. ive not known what people meant by hopup before so didnt really tamper with it. This now gives mea better idea of what it does. im getting my own rifle this week. going to give it a test drive down at my local range and fiddle around with the hop up a bit to see how it affects the shots!
Pick up city on a gel blaster hit 30m and i could have hit a second floor sniper bit eradicate but if you got that set correctly 60m all off a sudden heavy 0.5 gel would help too .
so good to finally find a clear and precise overview from a fellow brit, watching americans doing reviews and how to's etc gets annoying becuase of how limited we are to parts compared to them. this was a brilliant video on how a hop up works, any chance you could do one on the differences of flat hop and R hop ?
+Greg Robertson thanks! Heading towards talking about rhop etc bur got a few topics I wanna cover first in vids, get the basics covered first so things kinda come in order :-)
So, basically it tries to make friction on the bbs to make the bbs spin and then improves the range of the bbs because of the spin. Somewhat a choke point of a bb, but can ruin its accuracy. Now it makes sense and very practical.

@@BradFFA They fire okay. Both could use a little more power but what they offer is already more that enough. The smaller M4 - despite the ironic name of "Problem Child" - has been surprisingly more reliable.
Trying to get my rifle shooting consistently and this really helped understand what I was doing, and should be doing :)
This helped big time. Wanting to get into airsoft so I'm trying to learn all I can. Great videos
As a beginner airsofter this was an amazing video and explanation.
Great. Video. I’ve been into airsoft for a couple of years now and want to do a custom build M16 Scarface as you can’t find them anymore.
Thanks. Helped me understand what actually controls hop up
Have yourself a sub. Just starting to get into airsoft and there's definitely some awesome info and content in your videos.
Great video. If I only saw it 2 days earlier, before I started working on my non-adjustable sights of BB pistol. But the thing is, when you buy an airgun it doesn't say anywhere on the box about hop up system present. Anyway, thanks for the video.
The mentioning of the “Magnus effect” would have made it educational (which I assume is the cause for the change of BB flight)
Great information. I am just getting into these videos & I find them very interesting.
Your guides are very informative. I hope to see more of these content.
I have to say... the bb isn't spinning "against the gravity force"... is the friction with the air wich make it to "go up" instead of falling down right after leave the barrel...
Javier Romero you could make anything fly if you shoot it fast enough😊
But yea your right it works like a plane kinda
A good pair of informative videos W4sted! I'd have appreciated simple but well structured advice like this when I first got into airsoft. All I'd recommend (from a youtube perspective) is a little boost to your vocal levels - I had to turn up the volume to hear you, then got deafened at the end by your outro music!
lol, sorry :) Will be fixing that for next time! Use a different mic and recording setup for these vids so still getting used to them!
That round button you called a bolt catch is the forward assist. And the handle on the rear is called the charging handle, just fyi.
Loving the teaching videos, keep it up!
really enjoying your videos , very clear and easy to understand , thanks, as about to attempt a hop up rubber change on my r85a2, and am new to this sport (1 month) wish me luck lol
Super informative video! That English accent makes the video 10x better! Don’t ask me why but I just learn better with those accents.
Very good vid. Good explanation, good quality, great for beginners. Props m8 you earned yourself a sub
Very interesting. Drawings so simple made it so clear cheers.
Thanks for explaining that. I've just ordered my first Airsoft gun & was wondering anout hop up :)
really good to understand the hop up system, thanks
A great help indeed. Especially as I'm buying a TM CZ61 with hop up problems (giveaway price!). I'll feed on your upgrade knowhow. Thank you
this is greatm really helpful.
ive not known what people meant by hopup before so didnt really tamper with it.
Make more air soft videos ! Your great at explaining things! Watched your space engineering vids too, loads of fun !!
great video , simple and well explain , thank you for taking the time to make the video for us the new people into airsoft
Great video as I know nothing about this until now!
Perfectly explained thank you very much
Really useful and good demonstration thanks mate
Great Video i been looking for a video like this because i just bought a gun and needed to know what and how to make it more accurate THANKS.
Great video, super helpful. Wish you would have finished the upgrade series ep 1 and 2 were awesome.
I'm still hoping to, scheduling with Sparky got really tricky :(
so good to finally find a clear and precise overview from a fellow brit, watching americans doing reviews and how to's etc gets annoying becuase of how limited we are to parts compared to them.
this was a brilliant video on how a hop up works, any chance you could do one on the differences of flat hop and R hop ?
+Greg Robertson thanks! Heading towards talking about rhop etc bur got a few topics I wanna cover first in vids, get the basics covered first so things kinda come in order :-)
Great explanation, thank you! Looking forward to all your future videos
Thank you so much for your informative video. I'm only just getting started with the sport and I can't wait to learn more:)
THANKS SO MUCH! This is why my 150ms ssg 69 p2 sniper had so bad range lol, ill adjust it right now thx
4:48 Its not a knurl its a chamfer (im a tool maker before everyone starts asking how I know)
So, basically it tries to make friction on the bbs to make the bbs spin and then improves the range of the bbs because of the spin. Somewhat a choke point of a bb, but can ruin its accuracy. Now it makes sense and very practical.
So, I'm sitting around researching hop-ups for a VSR-10. This video pops up in my feed. 30 seconds in, I realize I know this voice, 11 minutes in I realize I know this face and massive nostalgia sets in ^^ Hope you're doing well J.
Phille - Shadowsong.
Wow, yo man! How's it going? If u need any advice about the vsr then hit me up on Facebook/twitter or something, I have a pretty killer setup for my vsr now but went through a lot of mistakes to get there!
Good to hear from u again man :)
Mate a great vid got no idea what hop up was except that it is very important in airsoft guns. Thanks man for the information Great Vid
You're welcome :)
Great video - physics simplified and explained very well 👍🏼
DUDE! Great video for a noob like me! Makes perfect sense now. Many thanks!
Amazing video brother. Very well explained thank you for sharing.
What is an M4 like yours worth?
We can’t get them here in Australia but I’d have one If I could.
I never watch these kinds of videos, and as I got into airsoft guns and the joy of the sport, EVERYTHING IS SO INTERESTING!!! 😅😅😅
