    As a Tri-State liver, the “upstate debate” is real. The people from the city and LI call us upstate, we call Albany upstate, and Albany calls Canada upstate

      Anything past Yankee Stadium is Canada, NY.
      There can be a skit all about NY...Buffalo, upstate, a city close to Canada (aside from Buffalo), Long Island (Suffolk and Nassau Counties)... include Queens and Brooklyn bc they're part of Long Island geographically...even though many don't want to admit it), the five boroughs...Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, The Bronx, Staten Island.

    Yes, the infamous “Where’s upstate” argument.
    “Please fuck off” phases in somewhere in the upper Catskills where it becomes too north for city people and suburbanites to go on a day trip. The Adirondacks and North Country is where the polite people actually are. It’s too bloody cold to be aggressive to each other. They let you cross the street wherever you need to and don’t beep the microsecond the light turns green.
    I lived up in the North Country for 6 years. Every time I went to my parents in NYC Metro, my vocabulary and driving naturally became more aggressive.

    • @ItalyHastaLaPasta

      @@ItalyHastaLaPasta Potsdam and Plattsburgh area. Spent a lot of time in Canton and Massena as well. Certainly visited most major towns.
      The fun part is I actually learned to drive in snow in the North Country so I got really good at it as certain back roads were never plowed completely (if at all). The surbanites and the city people I drive with now start flinching if snow starts to actually fall out of the sky. It is the most amusingly terrifying thing ever.

    • @LeadTrumpet1
      @LeadTrumpet1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@Grundini91 just start offensive driving anywhere south of Liberty, Kingston, or Poughkeepsie in their respective counties or any counties south.
      People beep and flip you off if you don’t turn right on red (even when it clearly tells you not to) or the microsecond the light turns green, or if you aren’t going fast enough for their standards. Granted the troopers have a +/- 15mph tolerance on speed as long as you aren’t doing anything else that’s dangerous.
      I will intentionally sit at red lights where there is a “do not turn on red” or “stop here at red light” sign or just ones with poor visibility because I have seen what happens when people turn when they shouldn’t and I like to live.
      The only way it works is mutual social agreement.

    Syracuse resident. Upstate is the general area north of about I-84. But even then it's broken up into smaller regions: Western (Buffalo, Rochester), Finger Lakes (Auburn, Geneva). Southern Tier (pretty much the entire NY17/I-86 corridor), Central (Syracuse, Oswego, Cortland), Northern (Watertown, Potsdam, and anything on or near US-11 east of Watertown), Mohawk Valley (Utica, Rome east to about Fultonville/Fonda), Capital Region (Schenectady, Albany, and I-87 south to about Kingston), Catskills (I-87 from Kingston, down to I-84) Adirondacks (Lake Placid, Old Forge and north to Plattsburgh). My apologies to any subregion I left out.
    As for a garbage plate, it's a half-plate of fries, next to a half-plate of macaroni salad, next layer is either hamburger, cheeseburger, or hotdogs (white or red), then covered in a ladle of meat sauce, and sprinkled with chopped raw onion. That one comes from Rochester. Beef on a Weck is a roast beef sandwich on a kimmelweck roll served with horseradish sauce, instead of mayo, and sliced raw onion. This is also a Western NY thing.

What happened to NYC Pizza and bagels, or the best egg sandwich in the boroughs? Wegmans is only an upstate thing. I'm from LINY, as the crow flies, about twenty minutes from the city.
