I remember playing this on a whim and ended up loving it. Even though GTA was all the rage then, this game had its own unique charm and humor that made me love it. It also had some great music too, remember being stunned when I randomly heard Bear Vs Shark (one of my favorite bands) playing on the radio during an early mission.

You know, the original Saints Row was fine. If you had a 360 in the early years. It was essentially the first HD GTA clone and it kind of remained the only good one until GTA4 would show up 2 years later in April 08 (and Saints Row 2 would also be released that fall). It's kind of the GTA3 of the series. Fine for the time but I doubt anyone is going to call it their favorite, certainly not when its sequels took things in far more interesting directions.
Also, thanks Greg for helping get this (what I assume) Saints Row retrospective off the ground.

Oh man looking forward to this! Saint's Row is one of those series I have zero desire to play but would gladly watch a video about especially from a favorite TH-camr so I'll be sure to keep my eye peeled annually.

I strongly considered JUST doing a video on the second game since it's the best and one of my favorite games, but I dunno, I've enjoyed seeing the entire series change and grow so yeah, a new annual tradition was born!

I actually liked the fact that stores closed at night. Even thought the 2nd game is my favorite, the 1st game still has the best little details, even moresor than Gta 4 and 5, like how you can call every ad number you see and each will respond accordingly to the business on the ad.

Well... Saints Row 1 is Backwards Compatible on Xbox One. But, I'm guessing you don't own one.

A correct assumption, but an Xbox 360 game being played on an Xbox One is still an Xbox 360 game.

I only know this series as basically "GTA but a hell of a lot more over the top" so it feels kinda weird how the first game feels...
Relatively normal compared to the rest.

Pretty much. The first game is just a pretty standard by the books gangster story. I love how the series has grown since this one, but it's definitely a bit strange to come back to.
