    Reminds me of the story of the people on a safari through the rainforest when they were hearing lots of drums and the travelers asked the guide what those drums were and he said, "When the drums stop, then you should worry". They walked further and the drums got louder, and they asked and again he said "When the drums stop, you should worry". Then the drums stopped and everybody freaked out and the guide said "Now for the bass solo".

    I have one of those, Tascam ATR8024. Still use it. Very very nice machine. The toms sound really good. Don’t ever get rid of your tape machine, they’re awesome!

    analog tape is better than digital

    • @ksteiger
      @ksteiger 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It isn't "better". it's adds components that are pleasing. But the digital signal is much closer to what comes off the mic pres than tape is. Just a fact.

      usually that is what is meant by 'better'. I'm not disputing that digital is more 'accurate', but if someone has the opinion that it has a better sound, then they mean that it is more pleasant.

    • @AnotherWorldYT
      @AnotherWorldYT 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      They both have their pros and cons, but the end result on analoge is generally better than digital for sure.

      Indeed!! I also have a Tascam 4-track cassette recorder at home too, but instead, it's not 24 tracks like yours, mine is 4 tracks only. But I'm currently using it to record special BBC radio broadcasts (e.g. important events, documentaries, etc.) and flipping it to another side as normal, and using it as an archival purpose. But I am gonna plan to do my own 4-track recording, but in my second channel! ;)

      What r u talking about? You are mixing Apple's and oranges.
      I restore 2" quads and they have norhing to do with audio. They had mono audio. They were designed to record broadcast quality video

    • @omegafilmcorporation
      @omegafilmcorporation 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, it would kind-off work, since I did play back a mechanical 32-line TV signal to audio and it does play something, but it mostly plays an alien-like sounds. Except that it isn't on a 2-inch tape, but a cassette tape or a file. But I know your thinking I'm talking nonsense about playing videotape into audio, but it is interesting to try out new things you know. :)

    • @rty1955
      @rty1955 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@omegafilmcorporation the signal recorded on video tape has a 6mhz bandwidth and is recorded using FM never could you hear a video signal. In addition the oxide coating on video tape is not manufactured for audio. Its particles are aligned up and down not linear as the heads in a quad machine use transverse scanning. You may pickup the video tracks as just a random noise, but never coukd you "hear" the video signal

    Having wrestled for years with tape in the 1980s, including 24 track Studer 2", 30 IPS bla bla bla … I can say it has a sound, especially on drums - sometimes it's still appropriate, though usually not, so please don't go romanticizing it too much … it really was all we had, though yes, it's true that it did force people to be better musicians - but don't kid yourself, it was a bit of a pain, and I'm very, very happy that I no longer have to spend ~30 minutes of unpaid time, aligning everything before I so much as record a note.
