What a beautiful song. The lyrics or amazing. Oh how I wish that people would write songs like this today. I did not even know this hymn until this monday and I have been playing it ever since. My 3 years old daughter calls it "my song". She asked me to play it over about a good 15-20 times..."one more time daddy". She starting to sing the song after a while and I recorded her. My eyed welled up, to say the least.
Hebrews 4:9 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. In faith Lord, I trust and believe in the rest that awaits the faithful in Paradise. I also trust and believe in the rest and provision You have for me now. That I would be free from the worry and hurry of this world and rest in Your Presence, Your Shammah, Your Holy Presence that brings the Peace the world cannot know or understand. Resting in the Holy Fear of God, that chases away all worldly fear that I would trust in Your Love. By Your Word and in Christ my Lord, Amen.
I just discovered this hymn too!! I heard about it listening to the audio book Desiring God by John Piper. So I looked it up on youtube. I LOVE how the Lord's peace floods me - body, soul and spirit as i rest and linger in His presence!!!
This is beautiful! And guess what? We have a cabin in Fancy Gap! This is one of the most places I know and your lovely video makes the perfect backdrop for this beautiful song!
This is a great song! I heard about it from the book "Hudson Taylor's Spiritual Secret." I can see why it was that great missionary's favorite hymn. Wonderful lyrics that we should live by.
This version is from Steve Green's album, Love Will Find a Way, released in 2010. I did not know that this is a classic hymn written in the late 1800's.
Music and words by Jean Sophia Pigott. Born in Ireland in 1845. Died and buried in 1882, Saint Mary's Churchyard, Leixlip, County Kildare, Ireland. Her brother Thomas Wellesley Pigott, a Christian missionary to China, was murdered by insurgents during the Boxer Rebellion of 1901.
Typical worldly "Christianity" - take a Christ-honoring hymn, add the world's music with it's rock beat and convince yourself that God's impressed. God's Word still stands true. James 4:4 "Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants (makes a deliberate choice) to be a friend of the world makes (takes his stand and declares) himself an enemy of God."

We sang this song at my father's funeral. Amen, He ALONE is our rest! Awesome.

I love this song. We are doing this Sunday in church again. Thanks for posting.
This is a peaceful and powerful song that our worship team will lead our congregation in worship, this Sunday.
Therefore, let us fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short of it. Hebrews 4:1

This was Hudson Taylor's favorite hymn and the key to Hudson Taylor's Spiritual Secret - abiding in Christ and not striving.
Amen!
