I haven't been hiking in years myself. And a few weeks ago sitting on my porch noticing the leaves starting to open up I thought I should get back into it. I'll be 52 this year and never finish all of the Northville-Placid trail. So I thought why not I'm not getting any younger right. Plus I still have all my gear, just need to start with a few smaller hikes to get back in shape. Your videos have inspired me to get out more. Thank you Joe.

Wow! 25 pounds in total is really impressive - lol, I took 25lbs of filming gear on our last filming trip, though thankfully it was a paddling trip! Everything changed when I moved to 4K... way more power consumption, batteries, high capacity memory cards, hard drives for media overflow, etc. I go through about 5 camera batteries a day, and have to use multiple AC chargers / field batteries / solar to get everything topped up by the next day of filming. Keep up the great work Joe - stoked for your upcoming video! :)

Great video. Sounds like it will be an interesting hike. I always liked to keep my small stuff in ziplock bags and then I found the big ziplock storage bags that you can keep clothes in and stuff. Have you ever thought of using those as well. That way if your tent gets wet you can segregate it in your bag. Just nice to separate things and the zip lock to seal it off or even compact it down and seal it for size.

Lake Superior PP is amazing, they're about an hour away from me here in the Soo. I fact I was up there last Thursday. The Coastal trail is tough, I'm sure the video will be amazing.

Having lived in NorthWestern Ontario all my life and traveled the Lake on MN/MI side as well as from Thunder Bay to SSM, I can tell you it is amazing the sights and sounds. It is very rugged as Joe has said. Kayaking is also a great way to travel the Lake Shores.
i live in Minnesota and have a cabin 45 mins north of Grand Marais. Beautiful land GooseBerry Falls is amazing along with Palasade Head. Enjoy and Safe Journeys
Watched Doug's video (you guys cracked me up), but that terrain at times was brutal. I can't even imagine how it would be walking across those stones, but I'd love to try. Can't wait for your vid of the trip.
Its funny how scout likes to be right near you watching what you're doing. I was trying to pack up our kitchen yesterday as we are moving and our dogs just wanted to be right there sticking their noses in everything we were doing and wanting to be close to us. Nothing quite compares to the bond between man and dog.
that trail is suppose to be a great one. One day i will cross the border and hit it up... keep an eye out for shug out there lol. I will be hitting the western uplands trail big loop in a few weeks. Our super wet spring pushed off plans for a bit. Hope your trip goes well my fellow Ontarian!
My buddy and I watch your videos all the time, and we were doing a gear check tonight for our 4 day/3 night trip, when one of us said something, and the other one said "shit we're starting to sound like Joe" hahaha. Can't wait to see the finished Superior camp trip video! Let us know if you ever make it to Nova Scotia, there's some decent land here for hikes/camping
I like how Scout stakes out the front row seat for this video. When he was a young pup he used to rage in the mosh pit. FYI: you might like to try a Ribz system. It would certainly help with your camera gear.
thanks for sharing joe. I like using one trekking poles for backpacking so I have a free hand to do things, but lake superior trail maybe too rugged for that; especially when the boulders are wet, it is difficult to hike. using 2 poles reduces your risk of losing balance. Falling on boulders breaks bones and electronics.

I know you know he knows your pack leader, but could you please give him just a little more praise, and credit for his loyalty and interest in what you are doing. ..underlying... Sail does have great return policy. Have a look at the sea to summit bags next time. Picked up a tkii a few weeks back and it's more comfortable than my MH 636 and Fjallraven move-in bag!

I put my clothes in 2 x 20l dry bags, I sit on them to squeeze all the air out then close them, and a couple 5l ones for bits and pieces
