I haven't sewn a thing in so many years! You've given me the inspiration to dust off my sewing machine and serger and get back to basics by creating outstanding garments. Thanks!!!!!
Nice job! I just bought a machine and have been searching TH-cam for a sewing tutorial with simple yet detailed directions, clearing recorded without annoying music playing in the backround. Bravo! You've done a great job and I will certainly refer to this video while completing this project. Thank you.
I'm so excited, cannot wait to try this. I just ordered myself a new sewing machine. I use to sew with my grandmother when I was younger & I haven't sewed in a couple of years, but I've always wanted to start back up again. Thanks for inspiring me Mimi!
Thank you so much for posting this, you are such a talented woman and for you to share is just WOW. I have a brandnew Singer that is still in the box he paid $700 for, and now I am inspired to bring it out and sew. Thank you for what you are doing :)
Your video just made my day....I was about to over complicate things and your video showed me its not that complicated and that maxi turned out awesome! Thanks Mimi G!
OMG! I found this tutorial on Pinterest by accident and now I'm hooked! I'm following you on Pinterest and a subbie on YT! I'm no stalker---I'm just so motivated!!! You're style is fierce!! I bought a sewing machine 5 years ago and have only used it once. I'm gonna dust that baby off and make something. Now I've got to learn how to thread the machine again LOLOLOL. Thanks Lady! Keep the tuts coming.
Wow! Your video made it seem so easy!! I've been into sewing lately and I honestly can't figure out how to sew right but you made it look so easy! Thanks! Please post more videos. This video gave me new confidence !
Hi Mimi G, I have been wanting to get into sewing, but I thought it would be hard. You make it look so easy. Thanks for sharing and I love your hair too! Thanks a lot.
Hi Mimi G, after some additional research into the TH-cam comment I posted on July 25,2013, I noticed that you would have done a tutorial for the 'regal maxi skirt with sash' however it's a 'to be paid for' tutorial. Thanks again. Keep posting your FABULARIOUSLY (my word) wonderful sewing tutorials. :D
Thank you for the great advice on using a card to guide pressing for the casing. That will come in VERY handy when I make some curtains later this week. You just saved me a ton of time! Awesome! :)
Awesome tutorial! I don't even sew, but your tutorial is so easy to understand I may have to start. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. YOU ARE FANTASTIC!!!
Wow..very precise and to the point yet informative..i had to rewind a bit to understand how to convert the measurements but this is the best tutorial iv'e seen thus far...
I finished the skirt!!!! Yay me :-). It wasn't perfect and I'm ok with that, I made it too long so I'll have to go back and make those adjustments. But THANK YOU for your page, I follow you on fb also and it's truly inspiring for me to follow my dream of many years, I'm becoming more confident in my sewing. Thanks again!!!
I immediately subscribed to you because you gave off such a pleasant personality. I am trying to teach myself to sew and I couldn't even sew on a button as you mentioned I the beginning but I bet if I continue to watch ou, I'll be fine. I purchased a machine Black Friday and just had th nerves to tak it out the box about 3 weeks ago and I have made a few bandana dresses so this may be my next project. Oh, teach me how to sew a button on. LOL
i've been trying to watch this video for about a week now, but i've been on my cell and between shotty service and my class schedule i could never get past like minute 7. So naturally, the first time I'm at a computer I watch this... my engineering HW can wait a couple minutes. Thanks for the video.
U r a Godsend! I am definitely investing in a sewing machine and gonna try this out in different prints and colors...thank u so much for this tutorial ^.^
by far one of the best tutorials i've come across. i'm going to try this for sure. thanks for making it simple and to the point. thanks for sharing your skills. you are very talented and good at what you do.
This was amazing, as is all of your tutorials! I will be making one soon! I have my fingers crossed for a tutorial on that striped dress you did (you had on the red Obi DIY Belt)! Thanks again, you break sewing down so well!
ABSOLUTELY! !! The best tutorial I have seen for DIY maxi skirt. Could I put a drawstring in instead of elastic, want the feel and comfort of sweatpants but in a skirt with no elastic.
Hi Mimi, can you tell me what type of fabric you use in constructing your skirt/dress. Thanks for your tutorials, they are a great help to use who like clothes but can't afford the high fashion.
@mariammakeup just useless fabric in your width. Don't use more elastic or the skirt will not fit :). Mim this was a great tutorial! Love your tutorials. You break everything down for us.
Just love, love, love, your tutorials, girl! I have a quick couple of questions. What type of fabric did you use and what is the difference (and name of) between a knit (2 way stretch) vs. only a one way stretch? I guess what I'm asking is, can you use a one way stretch type of fabric for this maxi skirt? Thanks so much and keep them tutorials cranking out! I just adore them and you're so cute too! Also, I would kill to get a hold of your fabric stash box, lol. You have amazing taste in fabrics!
What brand and model machine are you using? Could you also recommend a reasonably priced machine for a beginner that can do all the necessary things such as giving a finished look to seams and hems without serging etc?
This is an awesome tutorial. I am working on making this but with a printed fabric. I have a quick question. Do you know why my thread in my machine keeps breaking? Has this ever happened to you? Thank you so much for this video!! You are awesome!!
Your videos are so awesome!! I took a sewing class when I was younger and never did anything with it. I have a ton of patterns that I've been meaning to make things with but haven't gotten the inspiration to do anything with them. Thanks so much for sharing and explaining this all in a way that is easy to follow. Also, what is the attachment on your iron?
Hi Mimi what sort of fabric did you use as it looks really comfy and thanks for all the effort you have put into this it helps people like me learn so thanks heeps x
THIS IS THE VIDEO I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR!, ALL THE OTHER ONES ARE SOO COMPLICATED, I JUST WANTED TO ASK IS IT OK TO USE MORE ELASTIC THAN THE SIZE OF MY WAIST SO THAT THERE ISNT AS MUCH GATHERING AND PLEATS?, HOW COULD I ENSURE THAT THERE ISNT ALOT OF GATHERING AROUND THE WAIST. THANKS
Want to say thanks for the video and ask what material did you use for the maxi skirt. I don't know anything about textiles and I attempted to make the skirt but it is not flowy like yours. Please answer.
hey, so if i want to make this but a high waisted version, I need more length in fabric and instead of using a small elastic, use a wider one and make the part it goes in accordingly?
Mimi do you have a video tutorial for the black full maxi skirt you have online with the bow? I want to make one to wear in a wedding. I am just learning to sew though.
What if the width of the fabric is too short for you to measure, then what? For instance, say if the waist measurement is 44x3=132/4= 33 (but the fabric measures 22 in, making it 11 in short...Any suggestions???
Hi Mimi G, I really appreciate your TH-cam posts. Question ? Is it possible for you to post tutorials for the McCalls Pattern 6556 Pullover dress and your DIY Maxi Skirt which you posted on your Facebook account on December 26, 2012 ? I really like those two styles and I would like to learn how to make them. Thanks much ! Your tutorials are great ! :D
Mimi! just finished my maxi skirt!!! I love it!! It's so full and sexy, I really want to thank you for teaching us how to make this beautiful skirt/dress. Can you teach us how to make a pair of easy pants or a racerback maxi dress? Any you make is worth a tut, My skirt came out so clean and neat.. I had you video on the hold time and kept repeating it.. Just want to say thanks Again!!

What fabric is the best to use to make a skirt like this
Mimi do you have a video tutorial for the black full maxi skirt you have online with the bow? I want to make one to wear in a wedding. I am just learning to sew though.
Check her website, mimigstyle.com, and click on tutorials and the maxi skirt is available to purchase.
Thank you. I found it and purchased it. Can't wait to make it.
What fabric did you use here and for your striped maxi dress??
Love it! Thanks!
Cute! You were so young 9 years ago haha. Didn't have an accent either 😊
What if the width of the fabric is too short for you to measure, then what? For instance, say if the waist measurement is 44x3=132/4= 33 (but the fabric measures 22 in, making it 11 in short...Any suggestions???
