What a great interview. I've been a fan of Slaughter since I was 11/12 years old, listening to them was my happy place, I still listen to them even though I'm into heavier bands now. They always come across as such genuinely nice people, even in interviews in the early 90s
It really sucks that Brisbane was cancelled. I hope you can somehow get to Sydney or Melbourne. I am going to the Melbourne show and paid the extra, difficultly, for VIP just to specifically meet Mark and Dana, their music got me through a lot during my teenage years. My favourite band until I heard Bathory hahaha but Slaughter still means the world to me, despite being told "you like the wrong Slaughter"😅

I saw Slaughter live last night and they kicked ass live along with Great White (Mark Kendall was absolutely brilliant… had no idea he was so talented) anyway yes Dana is a great player and personality. Randy Rhodes is absolutely one of the greatest guitarists ever and I agree about Tony Iommi who was the most innovative and influential musician in that era of rock and it’s great he finally got the recognition he deserves. I grew up on early Sabbath myself.

I love hearing the story of Dana persevering and getting Randy Rhoads to a level where he deserved to be...saving Ozzy.
Let's not forget Dana also teed up Ozzy with jake E Lee who is also great in his own right

Damn, I was just thinking about how many bands and projects Dana has been involved with. I just watched a video of Dana describing how he brought Ozzy and Randy Rhodes together. I never knew that had occurred, the story about how it came together was great. 80’s Rock/Metal resurgence, let’s help make it happen.

I saw Slaughter in the late 80’s, and again at a casino in Yuma AZ, in 2015. I was surprised how well, and with the level of energy, that they played. Mark Slaughter is actually an excellent guitar player and musician. There were a lot of poser bands in the 80’s like Bon Jovi, Poison and Warrant, but Slaughter had true musicians in the band. Cinderella and Y&T were also great bands, with real musicians during the glam rock scene. Someone needs to do a documentary on Y&T, they should have been a huge band. Dave Mckenetti was a great singer and played lead guitar. Imagine how difficult that is to do at the same time. Tom Kiefer from Cinderella was also a great singer and rhythm guitarist. Thus is just based on the concerts I attended, but the 4 that sounded the best in my opinion were Dio, Sammy Hagar, Tom Kiefer, and David Coverdale.

when it comes to Randy Rhoads, theres only 2 people i listen to, Dana Strum and Tommy Aldridge. Theyve always told the same story over the years and didnt lie or exxagerate to make themselves look good. Dana is a genous, especially with the ozzy/randy fore sight. The guy knows his stuff..

Well the truth about Strum is he was obviously an underrated and amazing producer, engineer, guitar player, talent scout, negotiator, and was absolutely essential to everybody he worked with. BUt people neglect to remember that his integrity and morals were not very good. He was very similar to the guy who everybody else maligns, Vinnie Vincent. I guess they made a good pair for awhile. Both did very shady things in all aspects of their time in music. They hurt and screwed over MANY other musicians and peers. This guy was very cutthroat and volatile, you did NOT want to get on his bad side. But talentwise, he did it all, and did most of it extremely well.

That’s disappointing to hear although I haven’t been aware of him or his career that long he comes off as a really straight up guy, is funny, charismatic and he has been in the scene (belly of the beast) for many years and I’ve enjoyed hearing his stories and perspective. But yea Vincent has a bad rap for sure and the music biz in general is ruthless and a cesspool under the lights and glitter.

Ya, that Vinnie Vincent stuff they really dont play live. Zeplin? Mark easily had pipes for. I totally forgot about the Ozzy stuff? Dana Strum has been all over the place and paid his dues. Before the overnight success of the band Slaughter and that debut record. He was in the business a decade already. Blows my mind.

Is his name pronounced "Dan-ah" or "Dane-ah"? I've heard both.

Really like hearing Dana speak. Wish I could get him to produce an album for me. I am sitting on a gold mine of a record over here, but can't get to the gold! Hard to find the right people to make things happen.
