    CORRECTION: The N64 release actually DOES have multiplayer. You access it by pressing "START" on player 2's controller during the character select. I initially couldn't find it, so I thought it wasn't included. Sorry for the misinformation!

    • @Nachy
      @Nachy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      @@KienPhung Could be tricky. Assuming the publishers of the re-release and current PC 'port' of it probably don't have the original source code themselves. Which may explain why they couldn't add anything into the N64 version and had to resort to an emulated PS1 version on PC, might require a lot of reverse engineering or a write-up of the same code from scratch. Though the fact this game got a re-release is already a surprising miracle by itself, it might not be hopeless in the future.

    As a heads up, the Steam version of the game just uses PCSX-Reloaded to emulate the PS1 version of the game.
    So while you would technically be playing the graphically "best" version that way, there's no new content or any PC related features, just whatever the emulator ships with. Even then the default settings they use are awful and the controller support is nearly nonexistent. If anything, the Steam version is the WORST way to play it.
    I'd recommend just buying a PS1 copy and running it on ePSXe for the absolute best experience.

    *repost since youtube seems to be hiding this comment for some reason?*
    Loved this video nitro, and especially loved the part on Donkey Kong 64, personally I find the positives of DK64 HEAVILY outweigh the flaws for me personally and I absolutley ADORE the solution you had for it my man. I completely and fully aknowledge the games flaws such as some mini games being unbalanced and can sometimes feel unfair(agreed), or how like you mentioned the instant kong swapping problem(which personally never bothered me), and as well as the amount of collectibles if your going for 101%, which again, never personally bothered me since how I personally always played the game is beat it getting the required 100 out of 201 Golden bananas to beat the game, and THEN post game I ususally explore and get other stuff I missed through the worlds and continue on, making the game have great reaply value for me personally(I still do this personally with games today such as Super Mario Odyssey). The pros of DK64 for me personally outweigh the cons such as how I always felt the atmosphere of DK64 is unlike many 3d platformers I have ever played, DK64 usually always felt like a pretty dark game, from the dimented "GET OUT" voice that times you and tracks you with a crosshair, to creepy castle having legit terrifyingly well crafted unerving sections such as the corridor with the unsettling moaning sounds of death, or Frantic Factorys absolutely phenomenal creepy dark music mixing with the "Haunted Toy Factory" aesthetic, and how Crystals Caves how it goes to completely graceful and peaceful to out of nowhere the music becomes frantic and panicking while the cave pillars are collapsing upon you ! And i'm not alone on this sentiment of dk64 feeling darker than most 3D platformers of that time(or even to this day), the absolutely phenomenal soundtrack orchestrated by Grant kirkhope is particularly darker than BK or BT, Grant said this himself on a recent interview how he intended for Donkey Kong 64 soundtrack to be darker than the banjo games. Tracks as personally incredible, catchy, and magnificently orchestrated such as Mad Jack, Army Dillo Remach, Frantic Factory, Angry Aztec, Angry Aztec Temple, Crystal Caves, Fungi Forrest, etc. As well I always personally loved these types of games, exploring a 3D sandbox collectothons, so again I never was bothered by the amount of collectables personally. Another note I absolutely adored about this game and feel is always overlooked is the 4 player "Monkey Smash Multiplayer" mode. With 4 friends, 3 different selectables maps(well made multiplayer maps to imo), and everyone frantically shooting fruit weapons at eachother, throwing orange grenades, using the warp pads that take you to the homing ammo so you can basically become untouchable(and snipe people all the way on the other side of the map), or simply melee-ing it out! I know im in the minority but this is all personally me and my personal views and likes about the game. I would love to one day see you tackle this game and would love to see your honest thoughts about it!
    P.S. Sorry for the horrifically long comment, just felt like I wanted to share this

    ... I WAS LITERALLY THINKING ABOUT THIS GAME A FEW NIGHTS AGO!! I read it in some Nintendo magazine with Megaman 64 also on it, and remembered there was this weird game I sort of just glanced over.

    The quote on 40 Winks is actually "Move over Mario", as in without a coma, meaning that "Mario" is not a vocative calling him out but the object of the sentence.
    They're telling us to "move over Mario". Probably so we can see better, I dunno.

    Dude thanks so much for making these videos. They are always entertaining and really bring me back to what made me fall in love with video games when I was a kid. Not enough people talk about these older games in videos, and makes me feel like nobody ever played them. You should check out Metal Arms: Glitch in the System, that game was tons of fun from what I remember and was made way back in 2003.

    The main music is still an utterly fantastic piece of video game music.
    I used to be terrified of this game, more-so than Silent Hill on the PS1 for some reason. Anything that tried to mix cute and creepy, I just found really scary. This, Medievil and so on. I was a weird kid...

    When I was a kid I was friends with our nextdoor neighbors kid and she had this game. And until recently, I completely forgot the name of it. I only remembered the character select screen and a little of the first level. I almost started to think maybe I imagined it because I couldn't find it anywhere and it didn't help that I forgot the title. I'm glad to know it was actually a real game.

    The "Move over Mario" quote reminds me of when I saw a magazine add for Dark Cloud that called it the "Zelda Killer." For whatever reason, there was little enough context that I didn't understand that it was referring to the game Zelda and not the character. I thought that there was a Legend of Zelda game about Link being framed for Zelda's assassination or something.
