It's because of the brand, Nintendo had that ''for kids'' stigma which turns off most hardcore players. Ps2 and Xbox had more of a mature feel to it. Not to mention the design of it. Purple with a handle. Such an underrated console.
Ironic how it was the least most successful of the Nintendo consoles, and yet it arguably has the biggest fan support and a lot of the games on the system are very, very good.
It really sucks, because the Wii was their most successful, but it has the smallest fan support, and much fewer gems. And because it was successful, it laid the grounds for the Wii U, instead of trying to do what the GameCube did again.
The PS2 killed it with it's casualness and massive library of games. I think making games on the PS2 was easier and cheaper not to mention more disc space. They were both great consoles imo and I may even prefer the GC today but none of that really matters now. lol I just hate how some GC games ate a whole standard memory card. I know they released bigger memory cards later but holy shit... At least they were nice enough to give you a free one when you bought Pokémon Colosseum.
well, Gamecube and Wii were both the times Nintendi's main franchises did things right. I mean Super Mario Sunshine is great but Super Mario Galaxy was amazing.
Which is pretty biased of you considering the GCN was squashed between the N64 and the Wii, the two Nintendo consoles that really deserve that title.... The GameCube, though, was for the N64 what the SNES was for the NES....
Kami Lee yeah, I mean... -Zelda was cell shaded and flooded -Mario kart got double character karts -Luigi got his own game, and both he and his brother got random machinery strapped on their backs -Metroid was first person -F zero got an actual story -star fox went dungeon crawling -nintendo finally made new IPs -nintendo, for the first and possibly only time, made a controller with analog triggers Woah
This is why I love nintendo, everything about them is great. •people say that sales are failing but in reality they have millions stored away as reserve money •They try not to compete with adding a billion features and instead focus on their games •constantly updates ALL their systems (seriously I get a 3DS and WiiU update every 5 days) •they know what pleases their fans (we asked for MEGAMAN in smash bros and we got him) oh and they also did a hoenn remake. •When trying to call their tech support not only are they quick to respond (seriously it takes like 20 seconds for them to pick up) they are also incredibly nice when talking to you and efficient with their support. Nintendo is best company, you grew up with them, and you still buy their games
daidai907 it was? Wait that was a US game right? Well, Nintendo saved video games from themselves, and I think I'm right, not trying to start an argument, but The Legend of Zelda also came out in 1986, at least it did in Japan
***** Gamcube in my room. Pool table and sound system in my basement. Have 4 or 5 or 6 friends over. Want to set up the Gamecube for some Smash and Airride. With that handle I can carry the two cords, 4 controllers, games, and the system across the house in one trip. I don't move the Gamecube often, but when I do, that little handle is the nicest thing ever. Just because it's not used often doesn't mean it's pointless.
I knew about that first Gamecube alternate start up with the laughing kids, but I had no idea about the second alt with the Japanese flair. That one's pretty hilarious.
Totally underrated console. Everyone seems to hate on Nintendo now a days just because they prefer not to go the way of blood and gore like everyone else. Even though I'm a Playstation man Nintendo is a very close second to my favorite console company.
They also prefer performance and fun over graphics. I believe they make their hardware cheaper to ensure 1080p 60fps games, but that's just what I think.
I love Nintendo. It's always been what I grew up with. I was always playing my N64 and my GameCube. I also had a DS when they came out and I had a Gameboy. Now to this day I still have my GameCube. I play my PS3 more than anything now, but I still wouldn't give my GameCube away for anything.
Well I've seen a lot of people that say it's a great console...but I also see a lot of people saying they hate the Gamecube. So it's a debate. But the reason that I think the Gamecube is underrated is because after the Gamecube everyone started hating on Nintendo. The console wasn't as powerful as the others, the game selection sucks, the controls and by extension controller made no sense (but that point started with the N64). I've never had a problem with my framerate on any console I've owned except for my SNES, but that's an older console that couldn't handle too much. I've never had a problem with any Nintendo controller, yeah the N64 controller is weird, and the motion controls are finicky at times, but it's never been something that ruins a game for me....plus I happen to think the Gamecube controller is the most comfortable and amazing controller ever. I see so many people saying Nintendo has no good games coming out, but if people would actually open their horizons then they would see an amazing selection of games for every Nintendo console. That's my 2 cents. I know the rules of the interwebs state that i'm to be ridiculed for my opinion but I honestly don't care. I love Nintendo, I love Sony, I can put up with Microsoft, and hate PC.
TheGamefreak8 is not the gamecube 2 The infinitely lucky, gimmicky, motion control "thing" that is the wii is not, has never been, and never will be the "gamecube 2". As long as Nintendo insists on making deliberately non-competitive consoles that are based around gimmicky motion controls that nobody cares about anymore there will never be a gamecube 2. Suggesting that the wii is anything even remotely approaching a sequel to the gamecube is insulting and frankly, stupid.
0:42 Also, 'Delfino' means 'dolphin' in Italian. It's great how much detail they put into something as simple as the name of the island the game is set on!
Thanks for posting this, Creeps! I'm going to go and dig out my GameCube so I can have a nostalgic morning (while listening to some creepypastas, of course!) Keep up your great work!!!
The reason the Game Cube is referred to as GCN instead of NCG was to avoid confusion with the National Geographic Channel which is sometimes abbreviated as NGC.
Nope. It was to distinguish it from the abbreviation of the Neo-Geo Color, which was NGC. Why would a TV channel have any correlation to a game console.
Because you can't copyright an arrangement of 3 letters. Even if you could, I'm fairly sure National Geographic wouldn't give a shit. One's a symbol, one's 3 letters. One was actually used in a game, the other was just an abbreviation.
This guy has it right. The Wii U feels like history repeating itself, an incredible console with good games just getting ignored for the competition. Truly the GameCube of 8th gen.
Point Three to be fair the wii u is a great console but if i had to choose one console for the next eight years it would be a ps4 or xbone rather than a wii u (wii u doesnt have any 3rd party games) :(
Point Three I wouldn't say that....The main reason I think people are staying away from it is the fact that it felt rushed and gimmicky. Plus there were no games to play until about a year after its release. If it wasn't for that stupid game pad I probably would've bought it day one but it came to point were Nintendo is selling game cube controllers with smash bros because they know that no one wants to play smash bros with that stupid thing....
If I had to pick a single home console to play indefinitely, It would be the Gamecube. It had an internet adapter, a keyboard, an adapter that let you play GBA games on the big screen, and most of all, the games were the best I ever played.
wind waker alone could keep you busy for a really long time, but omg melee would keep you busy even longer, put in about 30 hours and still have about 1/3 of the challenges left
Don't forget that since hackers brought back the Dreamcast online, also PSO can be played again via the Internet. GC players can even talk to Dreamcast and PC players while being in the lobby. Best shit ever.
See, you're appealing to a fairly specific little age group; one has to be between about 14-24 to get this reference. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers.
ahhh good times, now look at the shit that's on tv, The only show that was based off stupidty that we had was Ed, Edd, and Eddy and that was actually good *looks at Teen titans go* *pukes*
I'm shocked to hear that according to present standards, the Gamecube was a flop. To this day, I considered it a Nintendo masterpiece of gaming titles. 1. Resident Evil Remake 2. Rogue Squadron 3. Eternal Darkness 4. Smash Bros. Melee 5. Star Fox: Assault 6. Pikmin 7. Luigi's Mansion 8. Tales of Symphonia 9. Mario Kart Double Dash. 10. Super Mario Sunshine 11. Metroid Prime 12. Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes 13. Resident Evil 4 14. Zelda; The Wind Waker 15. Zelda: Twilight Princess There are probably more games than what I've listed, but those were the best that I played.
Maybe he's not american, perhaps never heard the name of the state said, or is actually saying it correctly. Frankly I don't really care which of these is tru
Did you know? The Wii is more shit on running gamecube games than the gamecube itself. The gamecube can run discs that are broken in the middle, while the wii doesn't last a chance.
Maybe its a problem from you Wii or something but mine does a perfect job reading gamecube discs. It can read my broken paper Mario, My ridiculously scratched sonic adventure and my super Mario sunshine that fell in water. Twice! So no. Its not like that.
Really? It pretty much only appealed to children with its purple lunch box design, it had NO ability to play DVD movies thanks to using those stupid mini discs which had only 1/3 the data storage capacity as a PS2 or Xbox disc. I was just too old for that baby's toy, and I still am.
doctor345678 Yes, the PS2 and Xbox could do a lot more than the GC. However, I own consoles (my PS3 for example) that can surf the web, play DVDs, check my e-mails, etc. and I honestly don't use any of those features. I just use my consoles to play games. Same goes for most other gamers here. Maybe the GC couldn't make me popcorn or massage my back, but it has some great games for it, that's why it's so beloved. I love the PS2 and Xbox for their wonderful games too, not for their neat features, which I never use.
doctor345678 Oh no!!! you couldn't have played a MOVIE on a VIDEO GAME CONSOLE?!?!?!?! ohh this is just horriblee....nintendo how could you make a VIDEO GAME console without the abillty to surf the net, watch movies, and alot of other jackshit useless features that a VIDEO GAMER CONSOLE doesn't really need?! HOW COULD YOU WE TRUSTED YOU.
DoctorDo1234 Why do you thing the PS2 absolutely crushed the competition? Not just because of DVD playability, but also because of the biggest library and variety of games (3,870). Also, the PS2 wasn't marketed so heavily towards children.
I wont disagree that the PS2 was a better console,i myself loved it alot, however you are giving credit to the wrong thing, the PS2 wasn't better because it had movies playable on it,as i said,a VIDEO GAME console, has really no use in those features,it only needs the video games part of it. which ,the PS2 had,
gamecube is the best console ever. Mario Sunshine Melee Luigi's Mansion Metroid Prime 1 and 2 Wind Waker Twilight Princess Mario Kart: Double Dash Kirby's Air ride Resident Evil 4 F-Zero GX Sonic Heros Sonic Adventure 2 Monkey Ball Fire Emblem Pikmin 1 and 2 WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED?
I've heard that the code name for the GameCube during development was "Dolphin" a thousand times, but I've never a heard a reason why. What significance or relations do dolphins have to a video game console that made Nintendo give it that name?
Source: www.nintendoworldreport.com/guide/1781/gamecube-faq-the-name-game Why Did Nintendo Call it Dolphin? When asked why the system was called “Dolphin,” Howard Lincoln claimed to have no idea why the Dolphin name was used. "Perhaps the programmers like dolphins,” he coyly speculated. Dolphins also symbolize life, fluidity, freedom and happiness-a good mascot for Nintendo and their new home console. Who knew they were so darn elusive & mysterious though? It’s also possible that Nintendo uses “Aquatic Nicknames” for works-in-progress, a la the Gameboy Advance’s nickname for Project: Atlantis. The industry insider who broke the news to OpN2k speculated that the “Dolphin” name originated from some of the wonderful demos / Waverace sequel. Of course, this was just a guess, albeit a slightly educated one, as it now seems that Wave Race: Blue Storm will indeed be a launch title.
Nintendo's headquarters was powered by dolphins at the time. Also, they used special dolphin plastic in the construction of the GameCube to make it sturdier.
maybe they wanted to a name that was actually different? every home console nintendo released until the wii was super lazy. nintendo entertainment system, SUPER nintendo entertainment, nintendo 64 (literally just because it has 64 bits) and the nintendo game cube. even the wii u's name is lazy. nintendo is lazy when it comes to console names.
The GameCube was so ahead of it's time, while the Wii was so before it's time. It's sad that the console that was supposed to be better was essentially worse. Although the Wii did have some really good titles, it was a huge let down for lacking in a tech standpoint.
I hope Nintendo's next console is a lot more graphically powerful than the next Xbox or PS. Only because people could finally stop using that argument.
Agreed. Especially with Iwata at the helm. Maybe next Nintendo president. Honestly I don't think that's too far away with all of Iwata's recent health problems. Not saying he's gonna die just saying that he will probably retire somewhat soon. Which could be seen as a good and bad thing.
Mine would be 5. SuperNintendo 4. Nintendo Wii 3. Nintendo 3ds 2. GameCube 1. N64 The Game cube imo is better than the n64 but I just happen to love my n64 better. Mostly because that was my first console ever. The first game I ever played was Banjo Kazooie which was fucking amazing. Still one of my favorite platformer today along with one of my favorite soundtracks of all time. Dk tropical freeze is a close second though. A very very close second.
The GameCube has a special place in my heart...one of the many reasons being my favorite game(s) is/are on it - Metroid Prime 1 and 2 (The entire Trilogy is my favorite)
Gamecube was substantively the BEST Nintendo console so far. It and Sega DREAMCAST were the best of time, acing Playstation and XBOX for what they were, did, and how well they did it, even if they did not outsell those two.
skinsman82000 1) I already said PS and XBOX outsell the GC and DC. So congrats of restating my own statement. 2) The PS2 and XBOX were mostly commercial and hollow, "McDonald's burger and fires", experiences compared to the GC and DC. Just because it sells more doesn't equate to better. Fanboys usually say "It sold better so it's better" or "every one likes it more so it's better", whatever "it" is in a given situation.. Not really. Just more popular.
I have my doubts that everyone who bought a PlayStation 2 did so for the games, because it was a cheap-as-hell DVD player as well. I don't know how long that remained the case after it launched, but seriously… why buy a $300 DVD player when you could save $50 by buying a PlayStation 2 instead?
Opinion. PS2 was the better of that gen and Snes was the best Nintendo system. All I can even remember from the gamecube was Resident evil 4 and Melee honestly. Also the Dreamcast had a crap controller, it was a fine system if you had a third party controller or something though.
Part of what gives Nintendo consoles a special nostalgic warmth is that the company itself carries forward its own lore. They hide elements of their history in everything they do, and even when you don't notice it gives you a feeling of playing something special.
I like how people are arguing in the comments section Its simple Did you play ps2? Good Did you play gc? Good Did you play both and enjoy the library of games both had to offer? Congratulations your experiencing euphoria that about 60% of the comment section has never achieved because there chaining themselves down to one console Oh and dont give me "waaah i couldnt afford both" because then you dont get an opinion on whats better if your baised Ps2 had ape escape, that game was brilliant, gc had smash bros melee, that game is also brilliant- but guess what, 2 games can be good -GASP- what a concept Dont chain yourself to one console, and if you do make it PC because then you can play 90% of the games across the other 3
I can't say for sure, as the Nintendo Gamecube is a very solitary and mysterious creature. Millions of years ago, Nintendo GameCubes were giant consoles which roamed the earth with pride. Indeed, the first Nintendo GameCube is older than the universe. What are its secrets?
Doctor: How did you get food poisoning? Dude: I shaved my head, Painted myself blue, Put a leaf on my head and then ate worms and crickets out of a bowl. Doctor: ...
I know I’m late, but I think that when you make the Gamecube logo spin to get to the menu faster, you can hear the Warp Whistle theme/ Ocarina of Time opening sound
Were would you rank these Nintendo consoles(1. Being Best and 6.Being worst)?: Nintendo Entertainment System Super Nintendo Nintendo 64 Gamecube Wii Wii U
1. NES 2. N64 3. Wii 4. WiiU 5. SNES 6. GC If it's any consolation, Gamecube is my personal 2nd favorite Nintendo console, but in terms of what it innovated for gaming... not much.
You get upset pretty easily. If you know he's saying Illinois, then what difference does it make? And it's not like he's pronouncing it differently on purpose, that's how it *should* be pronounced because that's how it looks.
That's true. I suppose it's similar to Arkansas. It looks like "Are-Kansas" but it's "Are-Can-Saw". Makes no sense, but that's the English language for you... nothing really makes sense.
The GameCube to me was like the true spiritual successor to the super Nintendo. powerful hardware for its time, great controller, cool design, and most of all great games. after the SNES, the GameCube is my second favorite console ever.
The GC menu? It was relaxing. You know what was creepy? The error noise from the game boy player when you tried to remove a cartridge prematurely or tried to put one in after turning the system on.
If we learned anything from this episode it is if you shave your head eat crickets all the while looking like Maurice from Little Monsters you can win cool prizes from nintendo!
Interesting. The Nintendo GameCube is one of the most underrated consoles of all time. So many great exclusives like Metroid Prime, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Star Wars Rogue Squadron II, and Mario Kart Double Dash!
Nintendo have always been a forward thinking company. Even though I have, do and will always prefer Sony you gotta respect Nintendo for what they have done to gaming.
Sjono Nintendo makes the emulators for the games by hand. Playstation just uses the same generic emulator they made and just bundles the game with whatever version has the least amount of bugs. I have no idea what Xbox does as last I heard you still couldn't even play most Xbox original games on the 360 even with the disk and their whole patching thing.
I'm pretty sure the 'Japanese-style flair' is the same exact sound file that plays at the beginning of the Lickitung sushi-eating mini-game in Pokémon Stadium for the N64. Just thought that was interesting enough to share :)
I love my GameCube. When I got my PS3 I had sold most of the games for it and I have regretted it to this day. I'm building the collection back up though
Without a doubt the console that defined my childhood! Simply an amazingly powerful console that's both underrated and ahead of its time! ❤️ GameCube you'll always be in my bedroom no matter what console I'm playing ❤️
That was the most fun generation. Everybody was having fun with games. It wasn't standard to have super-realistic games. They were just fun because there was no restraint for creativity! Now-days, a lot of games are "realistic" and "better than this game" or has a lot of snotty kids wanting something for the best graphics. It's not the same. It's just not as fun anymore.
To be fair, Dreamcast was a 5.5th generation platform. It was only associated with superior machines by a factor of 3 months if I have the dates right.
siIvermate It was actually 1.5 GB and it did do the job just fine. It also made for shorter load times, a piracy repellant, and spared Nintendo the licensing quandary involved with using DVD-ROM discs. As for the exterior design, many agree that it still looks relevant and attractive to the eye today.
Daamnn. I have my Gamecube for about 13 years now and it's survived longer than most of my other consoles... example, my 360 who had 2 red rings, 2 replacements, PS4 which is having issues, even my Wii has some issues...But nooo, my cube is still alive and running ever since the day I got it as a gift for my birthday...Good ol times.
The most common occurrence is in the American versions of the past three Mario Kart games (DS, 7, 8) when they started doing retro tracks. They note where the track came from originally and for all Double Dash inspired tracks they add GCN to the end of the track's name.
Top Melee player: I just won a top tier tournament with 3,000 entrants! Nintendo: Yeah so? Random dude: I painted my face blue and ate some worms and crickets Nintendo: Cool! Here's $5,000!
How did the GameCube not sell well??? Everyone I knew as a kid had one haha
One of the reasons is because It was purple
expwner1 i have one that's black
I know, I have one that's grey but the original was purple so no one bought it
It's because of the brand, Nintendo had that ''for kids'' stigma which turns off most hardcore players. Ps2 and Xbox had more of a mature feel to it. Not to mention the design of it. Purple with a handle. Such an underrated console.
I have two (purple and black).
Ironic how it was the least most successful of the Nintendo consoles, and yet it arguably has the biggest fan support and a lot of the games on the system are very, very good.
"the least most successful" how am i supposed to interpret that -_-
Did you mean the VIrtual Boy?
The Virtual Boy was handheld. Hard to believe, but they classified it as a handheld console. I mean out of NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii or Wii U.
It really sucks, because the Wii was their most successful, but it has the smallest fan support, and much fewer gems. And because it was successful, it laid the grounds for the Wii U, instead of trying to do what the GameCube did again.

I know they released bigger memory cards later but holy shit... At least they were nice enough to give you a free one when you bought Pokémon Colosseum.
I like to think of the GameCube as "The time Nintendo's main franchises did something different".
I agree especially with the Zelda games. Wind Waker seemed more light hearted and twilight princess was very dark.
well, Gamecube and Wii were both the times Nintendi's main franchises did things right.
-Zelda was cell shaded and flooded
-Mario kart got double character karts
-Luigi got his own game, and both he and his brother got random machinery strapped on their backs
-Metroid was first person
-F zero got an actual story
-star fox went dungeon crawling
-nintendo finally made new IPs
-nintendo, for the first and possibly only time, made a controller with analog triggers
Woah
that's how I view the wii actually...
This is why I love nintendo, everything about them is great.
•people say that sales are failing but in reality they have millions stored away as reserve money
•They try not to compete with adding a billion features and instead focus on their games
•constantly updates ALL their systems (seriously I get a 3DS and WiiU update every 5 days)
•they know what pleases their fans (we asked for MEGAMAN in smash bros and we got him) oh and they also did a hoenn remake.
•When trying to call their tech support not only are they quick to respond (seriously it takes like 20 seconds for them to pick up) they are also incredibly nice when talking to you and efficient with their support.
Nintendo is best company, you grew up with them, and you still buy their games
You forget one thing sir, without them and Super Mario Bros., there wouldn't be any of the video games that we know and love/hate today
Yeah but there videogame selection is limited. Sure if you love Mario go ahead but what about FPS and open world games? They're good but not that good
daidai907 but without them, there'd be no open world game, its all because of Nintendo
darthvaderluigi That's surprisingly not true. The first true open world game is ultima1: the first age of darkness made in 1986. So you're wrong.
daidai907 it was? Wait that was a US game right? Well, Nintendo saved video games from themselves, and I think I'm right, not trying to start an argument, but The Legend of Zelda also came out in 1986, at least it did in Japan
Did you know? The Gamecube has a carrying handle that you'll think will be very useful but everyone will just mock you for it looking like a lunchbox.
Chad Quandt Seriously, the handle was the best idea for a console imo.
You have no idea how often that handle comes in handy.
***** VERY handy.
***** If you're moving to another room in your house or visiting a friend, it's makes it SO much easier to carry the necessities.
Still kinda bummed out we never got the Panasonic Q outside of Japan since that would a beastly little version of the Gamecube
How are you everywhere?
Yea Id like one of them
Oh yeah I remember that, a little retro game shop I know has one of them on display
I love ur channel.
Brendon Townsend I assume you actually meant, "hate gaming being blamed for shootings."
Fun fact: "Delfino" is actually the Italian word for Dolphin.
Spanish, too.
Nope, in Spanish is "delfín". Very similar, but not the same.
+equimosis1 You're right.
and mario has a italia accent
Thanks for the fact bro ;)
The sound of the Windwaker's Ocean music makes me happy and nostalgic.
GameCube was a fantastic console and had the best controller
N64 controller is better.
I liked the Wii U Gamepad... please don't kill me ;(
+Apple News nah fam GameCube was strong and durable and it was perfect. N64 was ok but not even close to the GameCube
gamecube really has the best controllers. i'm so glad that they can be used for smash bros on wii u !
Ivster I think the Wii U Pro Controller is better. But I'm not stopping you from liking that, the controller was awesome, yeah.
So.. a man shaved his head, painted himself blue, ate worms and crickets just for a gamecube? He couldve just bought one...
Ahhh, touché!
Liam Carr Not just for a GameCube. He also won a GBA, a collection of games, and 5,000 dollars.
Nicholas Kaczmarek the only thing that peaks my curiosity is what games were in that collection.
he got 5000
He also got 5,000 dollars dontcha know?
I knew about that first Gamecube alternate start up with the laughing kids, but I had no idea about the second alt with the Japanese flair. That one's pretty hilarious.
YYOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO~!
oh dang its smashmaster
The Gamecube is one of my all time favourite consoles and TTYD is one of my all time favourite games.
What's TTYD stand for again?
+Blue Ninja (Paper Mario) The Thousand Year Door
Me to, I played Melee,Sunshine,Mario Baseball, the Mario parties and Sonic Riders
I remember having a gamecube, but we only had a TMNT game
same here dude

Still waiting for GameCube 2
The wii
Its processor is literally two Gamecube processors.
TheGamefreak8 is not the gamecube 2
The infinitely lucky, gimmicky, motion control "thing" that is the wii is not, has never been, and never will be the "gamecube 2".

A Pumpkin Ducks Then what would YOU say the GC2 would be like, then?
There is no gamecube 2.
Whoever that man was who juggled Nintendo consoles, I congratulate you. You have the weirdest talent in the world.
try worms
That's also bizarre. I'll give you that.
Catcloud
that just requires not having tastebuds LOL
0:42 Also, 'Delfino' means 'dolphin' in Italian. It's great how much detail they put into something as simple as the name of the island the game is set on!
Nintendo are good at making clever easter eggs :D
Thanks for posting this, Creeps! I'm going to go and dig out my GameCube so I can have a nostalgic morning (while listening to some creepypastas, of course!) Keep up your great work!!!
Had so much fun with this Console :3
Didn't we all? :3
+El Gamer Cosplayer It still is my favorite console.
Mine is the SNES, but the GameCube had many great games, specially multiplayers like the N64
Me too
Same tho
The GameCube is by far my favorite system yet. Super Smash Bros. Melee anyone?
Screw Melee, Smash 4 is out.
Point Three Yeah. But sadly I don't have a 3DS so I have to wait for the Wii U version. Oh well. At least I'll get the better one.
CAVFIFTEEN
You have a Wii U but not a 3DS? You're probably among a very small minority in that case.
Point Three
Not really. Not everybody can afford more than one console, you know.
Point Three
Never screw Melee.
Dave Strider Just like EarthBound and Red Cross. Red Crpss had a copyright on their logo, so why not their name?
Because you can't copyright an arrangement of 3 letters. Even if you could, I'm fairly sure National Geographic wouldn't give a shit. One's a symbol, one's 3 letters. One was actually used in a game, the other was just an abbreviation.
Dave Strider WWF......
radicalgamer74331 NBA, NFL, MLB...
Right up until the Wii U was released the Gamecube was easily my favourite console.
This guy has it right. The Wii U feels like history repeating itself, an incredible console with good games just getting ignored for the competition. Truly the GameCube of 8th gen.
Hell, both of you get a thumbs up.
Point Three to be fair the wii u is a great console but if i had to choose one console for the next eight years it would be a ps4 or xbone rather than a wii u (wii u doesnt have any 3rd party games) :(
You guys are seriously underselling the SNES. Now that was a console.
Did you know Kirby Air Ride needs a sequel?
Vector Silver is your profile picture from pirate101?
Yeah.
Vector Silver Did you know that Nintendo doesn't give a fuck about Air Ride, despite in my opinion it being the best spin-off Kirby game?
k..........
YESSS MORE CITY TRIAL
I've probably put thousands of hours into the Gamecube since I was a kid... Literally, thousands
what about the wii though? it has gamecube support.
APimpNamedSlickback The first ones only and unfortunately no one honors a console for its backwards compatibility.
The GameCube controller is my favorite controller.
My second favorite controller is the Sega Mega Drive 3-button controller, for some reason.
my favs are gamecube and playstation controllers. they feel so right!
The NES Turbo Controller is my Fav
EeveeDaRebel wiiu pro controller for me, feels nice like an Xbox controller without wonky button placement
It seems like the winner just... blue himself.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
+Dreadjaws Im sure he's Blue Ba da dee dabba da-ee
+Dreadjaws honestly to me it sounds like he blue it
W
Goddamn it, Barb.
gamecube will evolve into "game sphere". I'm happy for anyone who gets the reference
It's spherical! SPHERICAL!!!
See, you're appealing to a fairly specific little age group; one has to be between about 14-24 to get this reference. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers.
Drake and Josh?
ahhh good times, now look at the shit that's on tv, The only show that was based off stupidty that we had was Ed, Edd, and Eddy and that was actually good *looks at Teen titans go* *pukes*
You can go Drake and Josh or South Park with that reference. They both had a game sphere.
Only god knows how much I love the dykg series!!!!! Thanks guys keep em coming!!! P.s. the Nintendo ones are so much more interesting than the others.
Gamecube is, and always will be, my favorite.
The Gamecube was my childhood. Also, I had the grey Gamecube, compared to the unliked purple one.
i still have one of the grey controllers XD
I had the purple when I was little, and the silver after the purple broke.
i had a black one
I don't remember what I had. It was either a black or purple one.
i have a black and silver and they still both work in perfect condition c:
I'm shocked to hear that according to present standards, the Gamecube was a flop. To this day, I considered it a Nintendo masterpiece of gaming titles.
1. Resident Evil Remake
2. Rogue Squadron
3. Eternal Darkness
4. Smash Bros. Melee
5. Star Fox: Assault
6. Pikmin
7. Luigi's Mansion
8. Tales of Symphonia
9. Mario Kart Double Dash.
10. Super Mario Sunshine
11. Metroid Prime
12. Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes
13. Resident Evil 4
14. Zelda; The Wind Waker
15. Zelda: Twilight Princess
There are probably more games than what I've listed, but those were the best that I played.
Blue Pikmin guy is fuckin' crazy, dude. I think drugs were involved. lol.
Think?
There's a 99.999% chance he was on a mixture of cocaine, meth, weed, and a billion other drugs.
JuggernautDragNaut don't know about you guys but I'd like to roll me up a Pikmin
$5,000 thou.....
Diddy kong knows what meth is...
People are dedicated... You ever heard of i dunno... THAT GUY
Those poor souls that didn’t win the Gamecube thing.
5:00 Oh my god, look how young Iwata was!
and now is dead T_T
May his soul be at peace.
R.I.P., you wonderful man of fun.
Bringing the GameCube "DIRECTLY" to you!
Yeah he ded now
R.I.P. we miss you iwata
did he forget that the s in illinois is silent 5:43
i didn't know that.
Maybe he's not american, perhaps never heard the name of the state said, or is actually saying it correctly.
Frankly I don't really care which of these is tru
+Murphio I'm american and I didn't know that
Jeff is American and I assumed most of them know about it but that's probably because I actually live in Illinois
***** if you meant pronounce, it's said like "ill-a-noy"
Did you know? The Wii is more shit on running gamecube games than the gamecube itself. The gamecube can run discs that are broken in the middle, while the wii doesn't last a chance.
Holy shit, I actually didn't know that.
I feel like your profile picture is giving a disappointing look at the Wii. I'm finding it funny.
But the Wii is easier to mod and play GC games, without the discs, via DIOS MIOS. So it's got that at least. :3
But I'm still running a Melee disc on an older console than the Wii. No wonder the name "Revolution" was changed.
Maybe its a problem from you Wii or something but mine does a perfect job reading gamecube discs.
It can read my broken paper Mario,
My ridiculously scratched sonic adventure and my super Mario sunshine that fell in water. Twice!
So no. Its not like that.
5:27 probably the same thing people do for a Klondike bar
The GameCube was the best!!
Really? It pretty much only appealed to children with its purple lunch box design, it had NO ability to play DVD movies thanks to using those stupid mini discs which had only 1/3 the data storage capacity as a PS2 or Xbox disc. I was just too old for that baby's toy, and I still am.
doctor345678
Yes, the PS2 and Xbox could do a lot more than the GC.
Mario Sunshine
Melee
Luigi's Mansion
Metroid Prime 1 and 2
Wind Waker
Twilight Princess
Mario Kart: Double Dash
Kirby's Air ride
Resident Evil 4
F-Zero GX
Sonic Heros
Sonic Adventure 2
Monkey Ball
Fire Emblem
Pikmin 1 and 2
WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED?
Let's not forget about Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and Animal Crossing!
How about Geist, anyone and Splinter Cell? c:
Oscar Martinez you got something wrong: gamecube is one of the worst consoles ever...but has some great games.
***** How?
***** If you mean it sold badly, then yes. But going by power, it was more powerful than the PS2.
I've heard that the code name for the GameCube during development was "Dolphin" a thousand times, but I've never a heard a reason why.
What significance or relations do dolphins have to a video game console that made Nintendo give it that name?
That's something I want to know too.
Code names are supposed to hide or obscure what they're code for. That's why they're code names.
Source: www.nintendoworldreport.com/guide/1781/gamecube-faq-the-name-game
Why Did Nintendo Call it Dolphin?
Fun fact: Delfino is the Italian name for dolphin.
Isle Dolphin
I see
mmdexter1 super saiyan
Delfin means Dolphin in Spanish

GamerKitten :3 dafuq?
The GameCube was my first real console I played...
and Super Mario Sunshine was the first game I Played...
all when I was 5 years old.
Good for you
I played SEGA Dreamcast back when I was 2 years old, and my first game was the demo version of Sonic Adventure on a disk compilation.
same
Jeremy Smith My first game ever was Super Mario Advance on the GBA SP AGS-101
I was 4 when I first played Super Mario Sunshine, which was also my first game as well as the GameCube being my first videogame console.
My Childhood.
Got a Wii? Good! Then you own a gamecube.
not really, some wii's don't have gamecube suport
i thought the cheap one is only available in canada...?
DerSuperBoy2600 It came into the U.S. a couple months ago, I think.
im pretty sure there are plenty of original wiis still available though :3
goosefrabba127 Not where I live, they stopped selling wiis some time ago. though before them they've been selling the Nongamecube Wiis for years
"Born to Play"
The GameCube was so ahead of it's time, while the Wii was so before it's time. It's sad that the console that was supposed to be better was essentially worse. Although the Wii did have some really good titles, it was a huge let down for lacking in a tech standpoint.
I hope Nintendo's next console is a lot more graphically powerful than the next Xbox or PS. Only because people could finally stop using that argument.
Sanic Fast I doubt that, since Nintendo aims for better performance and fun for the player than graphics.
Agreed. Especially with Iwata at the helm. Maybe next Nintendo president. Honestly I don't think that's too far away with all of Iwata's recent health problems. Not saying he's gonna die just saying that he will probably retire somewhat soon. Which could be seen as a good and bad thing.
TheApacheNinja Apparently fun isn't what people want anymore.
ZMowlcher
Personally I just want a solid RPG on my Wii U, I mean those are the games that made me love the SNES.
Top 5 Nintendo consoles for me:
5)Nintendo 64
4)Nintendo Entertainment System
3)Nintendo DS
2)SuperNintendo
1)GameCube
Mine would be
5. SuperNintendo
4. Nintendo Wii
3. Nintendo 3ds
2. GameCube
1. N64
The Game cube imo is better than the n64 but I just happen to love my n64 better. Mostly because that was my first console ever. The first game I ever played was Banjo Kazooie which was fucking amazing. Still one of my favorite platformer today along with one of my favorite soundtracks of all time. Dk tropical freeze is a close second though. A very very close second.
5.DS Lite
4.SNES
3.GameCube
2.Wii/Wii U
1.3DS
This is a list of my faavorites, not a statistical. Also, Wii/Wii U because I like them equally.
Mine would be:
1.SNES
2.Gamecube
3. NES
4.Wii
5. N64
Mine would be:
1.SNES
2.Gamecube
3. NES
4.Wii
5. N64
No Virtual Boy? Dude that thing was so underrated.
Blue Pikmin Man is the hero we deserve.
Correction, those are the ones you liked. Sales determine the best console, ps2 sold how many?
skinsman82000 Haha, no . Sales do not equate with quality. By that logic, the Wii was better than Xbox 360 and ps3 combined.
skinsman82000
1) I already said PS and XBOX outsell the GC and DC.
Still waiting for GameCube 2.
The Wii
Wii? It's pretty much just a beefy gamecube anyways.
Maybe a Gamecube Mini but who knows?
This year Microsoft will launch a sequel to the Gamecube
Y'know, there's actually a GameCube emulator called the Dolphin Emulator. Just a little fun fact.
shaun03a and the Dev program for GCN programming was called Dolphin as well
shaun03a I literally heard of that emulator. I couldn't get it to work on my computer, possibly because I have a very slow windows xp
Part of what gives Nintendo consoles a special nostalgic warmth is that the company itself carries forward its own lore. They hide elements of their history in everything they do, and even when you don't notice it gives you a feeling of playing something special.
I like how people are arguing in the comments section
Its simple
Did you play ps2? Good
Did you play gc? Good
Did you play both and enjoy the library of games both had to offer?
Congratulations your experiencing euphoria that about 60% of the comment section has never achieved because there chaining themselves down to one console
Oh and dont give me "waaah i couldnt afford both" because then you dont get an opinion on whats better if your baised
Ps2 had ape escape, that game was brilliant, gc had smash bros melee, that game is also brilliant- but guess what, 2 games can be good -GASP- what a concept
Dont chain yourself to one console, and if you do make it PC because then you can play 90% of the games across the other 3
+10000000000000000 agreed
People are biased morons. That's why fanwars get started.
I agree. I had both though, so there was no arguing in my household.
Waaaaa I cant afford both.
a gc is?
Did you know? The Nintendo GameCube is invincible at all hours, but especially at 2:00 PM.
but why at 2:00 P.M?
I can't say for sure, as the Nintendo Gamecube is a very solitary and mysterious creature. Millions of years ago, Nintendo GameCubes were giant consoles which roamed the earth with pride. Indeed, the first Nintendo GameCube is older than the universe. What are its secrets?
+IronianKnight We may never know.
The guy who juggled systems dressed as mario while whistling the theme should have won.
5:45 THE S IN ILLINOIS IS SILENT AAAAHHHHHH
I love the GameCube! It was my first console, all those memories of playing Melee and Double Dash :)
Dude same
Same. And Kirby air ride
The most self related comment I've seen on this video so far
Logan589XP same
Doctor: How did you get food poisoning?
Dude: I shaved my head, Painted myself blue, Put a leaf on my head and then ate worms and crickets out of a bowl.
Doctor: ...
But then he's actually doctor mario and prescribes toasters
People take their video games way too seriously. Yare yare daze >_>
There's a porno parody of your thumbnail by Zone.
weeb
I know I’m late, but I think that when you make the Gamecube logo spin to get to the menu faster, you can hear the Warp Whistle theme/ Ocarina of Time opening sound
Huh, I never noticed that.
My friend straight up gave me his GameCube today.
"Hai there! Have my GameCube. BYE!"
That's a stupid thing giving your GameCube away.
MrMajorasmask101 Lucky guy! Also, that guy's probably gonna be back after a while.
CrewOfGaming Adam No he's says he's all about Xboner One.
Damn.
CrewOfGaming Adam Ikr? Right now i have all three North American colors.

If it's any consolation, Gamecube is my personal 2nd favorite Nintendo console, but in terms of what it innovated for gaming... not much.
SNES
N64
GC
NES
Wii
Wii U
I actually don't care about the last 2, so they're just there.
5:43 "A man from IllinoiS" As a person who lived in this state for 18 years, I am upset. The S is silent.
Was the catchphrase for the Wii U Please Understand?
How will U play next?
soccerthepkmnmaster smooth as fuck
wii all like u.
Best controller ever.
I think they're even developing an adapter for the Wii U. Nintendo's so sweet to us.
Gabriel Mann The adapter has been finished for a while :D
Good. I don't like playing Smash Bros with the Wiimote and Nunchuk.
Nope.
I think Switch Pro Controller beats it :o
Gamecube was such a fun system.
0:30 In Super Smash Bros. Melee, on the Big Blue stage, there are certain areas where you can see dolphins decorations on the poles.
I SAW THAT TINY CLIP OF TALES OF SYMPHONIA ; U ; This is perfect
That GC menu always scared me though... ono
+Chris Slitas Why ?
+Calvin Leonardo music super creepy, whadyamean why?
The GC menu? It was relaxing.
You know what was creepy? The error noise from the game boy player when you tried to remove a cartridge prematurely or tried to put one in after turning the system on.
It scared me too... sounds like a horror movie
+Jack Shit What about the original Xbox ambience menu sounds?
If we learned anything from this episode it is if you shave your head eat crickets all the while looking like Maurice from Little Monsters you can win cool prizes from nintendo!
Good boy
Interesting. The Nintendo GameCube is one of the most underrated consoles of all time. So many great exclusives like Metroid Prime, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Star Wars Rogue Squadron II, and Mario Kart Double Dash!
Nintendo have always been a forward thinking company. Even though I have, do and will always prefer Sony you gotta respect Nintendo for what they have done to gaming.
I prefer both.
Best Console ever made.
Hahahaha....
What are u laughing about? The only ones that compare are SNES and PS2.
***** and the N64 to these 3 imo.
Is Gamecube too good to appear on Virtual Console?
They're having problems emulating it on Wii U. Same for the N64.
Can't be that hard since PS2 Classics and Xbox Originals have been around for a while
Sjono
Nintendo makes the emulators for the games by hand. Playstation just uses the same generic emulator they made and just bundles the game with whatever version has the least amount of bugs. I have no idea what Xbox does as last I heard you still couldn't even play most Xbox original games on the 360 even with the disk and their whole patching thing.
MasterMario14
The Wii could run N64 games, so why not Wii U?
Eathams I'm not sure, but they're trying to upscale it or something and that's why it's failing.
that blue pikMAN was dedicated
I'm pretty sure the 'Japanese-style flair' is the same exact sound file that plays at the beginning of the Lickitung sushi-eating mini-game in Pokémon Stadium for the N64. Just thought that was interesting enough to share :)
lol good observation!
Oh shit man! I loved that minigame
Why is it that comments are never related to the video anymore? or they are just people making arguments.
Hey look! It's Not-PBG!
it's his editor
mywlan2 That still makes him Not-PBG.
its his evil twin. pubuhgew :3
I'm so glad you put Tales of Symphonia in the beginning of the video! Such a great game :')
I remember my first console was the Gamecube :3 I still have it and play it to this day :D
Great system with terrible 3rd party support.
At least it had Metal Gear Solid
just like the wii u
jbadboy360 And Resident Evil 4.
james jamerson The cycle repeats itself.
Twin Snakes sucked balls though.
The tune made at 4:15 when holding down all the Z buttons is the same tune from a minigame in Pokémon Stadium for Nintendo 64
6th Generation
1)PS2
2)Gamecube
3)Dreamcast
4)Xbox
That was the most fun generation. Everybody was having fun with games. It wasn't standard to have super-realistic games. They were just fun because there was no restraint for creativity! Now-days, a lot of games are "realistic" and "better than this game" or has a lot of snotty kids wanting something for the best graphics. It's not the same. It's just not as fun anymore.
To be fair, Dreamcast was a 5.5th generation platform. It was only associated with superior machines by a factor of 3 months if I have the dates right.
The console's potential was ruined by a stupid format choice(mini-DVD) and exterior design(purple lunchbox).
*****
You don't realize, they could've done the job better. 1.4 GBs instead of 7.9 GBs? not a chance
siIvermate
It was actually 1.5 GB and it did do the job just fine. It also made for shorter load times, a piracy repellant, and spared Nintendo the licensing quandary involved with using DVD-ROM discs. As for the exterior design, many agree that it still looks relevant and attractive to the eye today.
Also due to lack of games.
DHMusic
Nope its actually 1.4 GBs, people just round it up.
The rest of your comment, is too tunnel-visioned for me to comprehend.
*****
Really? all I thought was missing, was a strong Mario launch title. They screwed that up
This Channel Features EVERYONE. That's Why I like it
Yup, very unique channel.
Animal Crossing was my favorite game
Who the hell uses GCN? I never seen that anywhere or heard anyone use that
If I have I never picked up on it at least
The reason GCN was used official is because NGC was already taken. By the National Geographic Channel.
Ya I also just use GC
The most common occurrence is in the American versions of the past three Mario Kart games (DS, 7, 8) when they started doing retro tracks. They note where the track came from originally and for all Double Dash inspired tracks they add GCN to the end of the track's name.
Nintendo uses GCN, that's who.
I didn't have nintendo power so guess that would be why never seen it used then
Wow! I've been playing the Gamecube for years and I never realized you can make that sound if you hold down the Z button.
I remember when I was younger and me and my sisters would play a GameCube if we didn't press z we would reset the console and try again
William Chin You guys are lucky you had that knowledge.
I do the same thing whenever I turn on my Gamecube.
+William Chin wish I knew that
I did that one time and went WTF.
Wow, what a great episode! Loved it! :)
Did you seriously pronounce the S at the end of Illinois, SpaceHammy? My state is sad.
I'm from Illinois and I can agree, this state is sad about the s being said
I always wanted gamecube ;_(
***** Its not same... Angry Video Game Nerd also said it is better to play games on original consoles than on emulators.
***** anyway, i said i always wanted to have Gamecube, i know Dolphin emulator.
doctorletsplay There is a gamecube USB controller you can use on your PC. Get an emulator, get any games, and use USB gamecube controller.
doctorletsplay Hook it up your computer to a TV with a HDMI cord...
doctorletsplay Well I have a HDMI cord that came with my PS3 so I don't need to buy one.... Rude much? I was just suggesting an idea for you.
pfft SpaceHamster more like SpaceEbola amirite? god im alpha as fuck
Catcloud ummmmm yes?
******starts chewing on your head*
Catcloud is this how you make friends? ....cuz i like it!!!
***** yeah this how I make friends
***** you taste really good man!!
shaved head, body paint, couples bugs... definitely worth the 5 thousand dollars alone.
oh my god.. the dolphin emulator-
it all makes sense now!
imgur.com/36GzS2s
Yeah it does!
Can't wait to get mine. I envy the people who played it when it first came out.
it was amazing
+Andrew Hooven finally got it. You were right.
+KawaiiNeko. it was a lot better back then because we weren't spoiled by today's powerful gaming devices but yeah it's still awesome
+KawaiiNeko. just curious but what made you get it so late
